4 reviews for Atlas Physical Therapy
I agree with Meredith, this place is truly very personalized, hands on, and the people are great!
I've been to many a PT in my day, but this place knocks my socks off. Yes I've been to some great PTs, some not so much and quite generic, but what sets this place apart from the others is the close attention you get from Vicky and her staff.
For some places, you may go see a PT for an initial review and then be handed off to someone else to follow a specific plan, I can't explain it any better than being generic. Here I get asked many questions on my progress, we try different things based on my last visit, my last run, my last used of said injury..and my plan changes and gets modified especially for me. It makes me feel special :D
On top of the one on one attention, each visit consists of PT exercise work, deep tissue massage, AND E-stem (which is that vibrating thing they put on your muscles and tissues)..all that for a flat fee of $100. You CANNOT beat that! Hello..a deep tissue massage in itself can be pricey, not to mention E-stem..trust me, I KNOW. My medical bills make me want to puke sometimes.
So if you have an injury or need something to be worked on, I definitely recommend this place for that special attention you need to a healthful recovery, it's WELL WORTH IT.
I recently had some issues with my right IT band (overuse from running and cycling) so I was recommended Vickie at Atlas after a long and drawn-out search to find a Physical Therapist that was GOOD and accepted by my insurance. Vickie fit both bills.
She comes from a multi-sport background so she knows athletes, yet she seems just as competent with her regular patients.
I am happy to tell everyone that after a month of treatment, although I still have a few slight nagging pains occasionally, I feel like I am pretty healthy and strong. Didn't think it was going to happen, and now I am a true believer in the strength of a talented and hard-working Physical Therapist and her staff.
UPDATE: I no longer work here, but I still highly recommend it.

I WORK HERE. So take that into account - I have a bias.
I just started working here and I highly recommend it. It's a small, privately owned business. The PT is very hands on with EVERY patient (which is rare). Patients get individualized care here.
The owners are Vicky L. Bledsoe, PT, LAT and Toni Wagner, a safety and occupational health specialist. Vicky is a triathlete/adventure racer who has degrees from Texas Tech and University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Toni is a jack-of-all-trades who received a degree in industrial technology from Southwest Texas State University.
Call before coming in to see if they take your insurance. If you don't have insurance or don't want to use your insurance, they charge a discounted flat rate. And remember you have to have a referral from a doctor before you can go to any Physical Therapist (because Texas is wayyy old-fashioned about PT).
ALSO, I think this is pretty important: Many people don't know they can choose which PT they go to. A doctor will refer you to a PT, but its probably just someone they picked off a list.
So even if you don't choose Atlas, at least choose SOME independently owned clinic and support a local business. The service you'll receive will probably be better, and you'll receive more consistent care (big clinics tend to have multiple PTs - or interns - treat one patient).
Anyway, this is a friendly place. Skilled employees. I like it here. Thought other people would, too.
I had my rotator cuff repaired, and had two bone spurs taken off, and was essentially worthless for a couple of months. I was able to select the area of town in which I was to go to physical therapy, and since this place was very close to where I live, and that it came with a strong recommendation from my surgeon, I committed. The billing, scheduling, and other administrative matters were taken care of in an almost transparent manner, usually by Toni, and the PT was handled by Vicki. I would, and did trust my arm to them, and would do it again. They are extremely caring, fun, if not altogether pain free. However, if your PT is pain-free, they ain't doing it right! When I started going there, Meredith (the first poster/reviewer) was there, and I can confirm everything she said. I was monitored constantly, and Vicki is always the one doing the actual manipulation of the joints, etc., and the interns/technicians do the rest - adjusting the equipment, counting your reps, getting you coffee/water/magazines.
I was very pleased throughout the entire process, and highly recommend this place for any physical therapy!!
A couple of other points: they are constantly wiping down the equipment, and tables, so you NEVER feel like you are sitting or touching a dirty surface, and they (meaning Vicki) never makes you feel like you are less than special - I had a pretty nasty scar / rash at the surgical site, and she jumped right in the first day, and cleaned it, and dressed it like a pro, and we got started.
A real gem when it comes to something this important!
