Went here a few weeks ago for a quick bite.
As a vegan, I was a huge fan of the menu: tons of vegan wraps, plates, and baked goods. Prices were pretty decent as well.
I ordered a vegan "chicken" plate and a coffee. The dish consisted of seitan, spinach, and some kind of squash. It was pretty good, but the portions were kind of small.
The coffee, I was kinda disappointed in. Mostly, because I ordered it and they didn't give it to me. When they finally did give me my coffee, it was gross hazelnut coffee, which isn't what I ordered.
The place is small, and the outdoor seating seems to always be at a premium. If you can find a seat, it's a nice stop.
Overall, the food was good and relatively inexpensive, the menu is accommodating to those with dietary restrictions, and the location is great.
I'd definitely check it out again, and look forward to further exploring the vegan options on the menu.
Great place for coffee and vegan treats if you don't mind waiting in line. The only drawback for me is the fact that I'm usually in a hurry when I stop here and don't want to wait for something as simple as coffee and tofutti on a bagel.
They get cakes from vegan treats, and I recommend the peanut butter bomb. The sandwich selection is enormous and decently priced, and the service is stand-offish but fast.
If you have some time stop by here for dessert. In the summer, if you can get a seat outside I recommend sitting awhile and people watching.
Real, real decent place for breakfast! I don't really like sweets so I skipped that, but my Tunisian eggs with some kind of gnarly French African lamb sausage (which I also don't eat) were great. Big portions for the price, and a great spot to just sit and chill out. They have a real, real extensive menu and a lot to check out whether you're vegan or just a sympathizer.
Everything was fresh, and done really well. I guess I've been 'doing' 'brunch' lately, and this is another in a pattern of great spots downtown. I would recommend it for breakfast and tea etc. but can't speak about anything else. A dude I was with got some kind of brownie with like a pretzel on it or something; he dug that. Check this place out if you're in the hood.
Atlas truly is great.
i have been ordering delivery from Atlas for months. always fast, fresh and delicious....
if you are a fan of vegan treats and faux meats, then atlas is for you.
i am personally addicted to the vegan chicken moroccan ginger rice wrap (see pic)
if you are a seamlessweber - atlas is just a couple clicks away from fast and fresh vegetarian yums delivered right to your door.
(for those who want non-dairy ice cream treats for dessert - note: atlas also delivers tofutti sundays/shakes)
mmmm. atlas. you are my constant fall back plan.
How did I miss this spot for a year? As a new vegetarian, I am so excited that Atlas in right down the street from my house. I had a VERY tasty brunch there the other day...and was excited to see all of the veggie options on the wall. I am confident I will become a regular here.
I will say that I was a bit overwhelmed by all of the choices. I didn't know where to start...I tend to gravitate towards restaurants that are more specialized. BUT, I'm going to go back...and soon.
I'm not a vegetarian and I love this place.
I'm not sure if it's the soup, salad, + 1/2 sandwich for 7 bucks combo or the super cute menu (displayed on the walls as a mural) & low-key decor that makes me feel like I've found a "gem" that keeps me coming back.
Either way, the food's great, prices are cheap, desserts are amazing! They even "press" their own frozen yogurt through this cool machine which is pretty rare.
Staff is a bit unfriendly and I wish they would serve normally instead of having me go to the cash register, tell what I want, pay, and then get my food. Feels like the type of place you want to just plop down, get some service, pay the bill on the table, and bounce....but I'll still continue to go back!

I'm no vegan, just a fan of yummy baked goods. I've only been here once, but the cake was delicious! I will be dropping by again to sample more treats~

I usually go here for coffee, but my friend Tim has a deep love for their cakes. So I tried it, and it has yet to disappoint. All vegan too. Amazing. Go on Tuesdays when they get their new shipment in.
Wish I could say good things about this place but the delivery left a BAD taste in my mouth.
First of all, they took 2 phone calls and over an hour to deliver 3 sandwiches. When the food arrived, they put chicken instead of turkey on the sandwich and the smoked salmon sandwich was totally different from the menu. (no where stated red peppers and they forget the goat cheese) When we called them, the manager said that they had run out of turkey...thanks for the notice. So they gave us a free tuna sandwich which took another hour to deliver. Never ordering from them again.
I've lived by this place for years, it's a real "regular" joint and I've seen the types who go here. (Poor hipsters.)
First off, I do like their menu and food presentsation compared to similar places, but their stuff taste kind of bland and dry if it doesn't have an accompanying sauce.
The main thing I hate about this place is the fucking workers attitudes and body odor. Do all people of their culture have a permanently shit face, or are they just always angry? I can't tell you how often these dudes DON'T SMILE, and it's a hard time to order from someone who can't understand English very and replies "WHAT!?" every time you try to order. This isn't the first time, too.
After being a loyal Atlas customer for about a month, to my chagrin, I found a muffin I had purchased yesterday night had begun to mold the morning after. Now, you might think this was partially due to the fact that it wasn't refrigerated, but good sirs and misses, a muffin does not go bad just OVERNIGHT. No, no, in my life experience, a muffin can be left standing at room temperature for at least 4 days. And it was clear this one had seen better days.
Yet there it was, sitting there innocently on the display counter on top of the register. I had some witty banter with the cashier, and left in high spirits (the staff are very congenial, friendly folk), with a piece of coconut cake (which the nice lady apparently gave me extra of. It was a half hour till closing though, mind you.). The cake was 6.00, muffin 2.75.
Well the next morning revealed the true nature of Atlas. Upon sinking my plastic fork into the cake I just knew it was past its prime, staleness akin to a loaf of old sourdough, though at least it didn't have a little white clump of mold on it like my raspberry muffin unfortunately did.
I chose to overlook the time when I purchased an oreo doughnut with creme filling that had a similar stale bread-like consistency to the shell, but now it seems I just have to add it in with this horrible experience and declare Atlas a sorry excuse who blatantly disrespects its customers by re-shelving baked goods to the point of allowing mold to grow.
Totally unacceptable.

This is a classic go to cheap lunch spot that can't be beat in the area. The menu is huge and is constantly changing which can be seen by the many decorative signs spewing out of different nooks and parts of the ceiling.
Is the service great? no. Is the food amazing? not really. But for the price its the best veg/vegan food you will find in the area. I don't like sandwiches so I end up getting the daily soup or the Rafeal salad (its huge and has a great assortment of veggies-only 6 bucks!). The desserts are also great, My favorite is the peanut butter bomb brownie or the mint cookie. Both very good: not too rich, not too large. Can't go wrong with cheap coffee either.
Note that the place is really tiny. You probably won't be able to squeeze more than two people in, so ditch your other, less cool friend, and sneak away to Atlas.

Oh my god. Just tried the Death By Chocolate VEGAN cake. Died. Well, I was "mostly dead", and then Billy Crystal brought me back to life. Amazing. $6 for a slice big enough for 3!

I wanted to bump my rating up a star. The last couple times I've ordered soup, it has come in a container reading "soup". Good job, Atlas!
Re: maryam g's post, I appreciate you being proud of the place you put so much work into. As is evidenced in my 4-star rating, I love your restaurant. I'm surprised you can't understand that vegan food being served in a container that advertises "delicious organic ice cream" is unappealing, regardless of what you did with the container before I got it. I wrote about that because I thought it was gross. I don't see how that is not knowing what I'm talking about, as you put it.
Thanks again for the change and for all your hard work.

The lentil soup alone merits another visit here. Delicious and nutritious.
Easily one of my favorite cheap restaurants in the East Village. It's cheap, quick and they literally have hundreds of options to satisfy any random food cravings one might have.
It's not the best, but its cheap as hell and outdoor seating is a plus now that its gorgeous outside. Take a date, its cheap and quiet.
Did I mention its cheap?

I really wish I could give 2.5 stars. The food is good. Its good menu for lunch, and generally healthy and fresh. The management and staff really needs an attitude adjustment...
I placed a delivery order for a salmon salad cooked in little to no oil, well it came deep fried in oil , long john silver style. When I called to let them know I was given major attitude and in fact was told " I didn't need to be so rude", and that it wasn't her fault..when in fact the only reason I was possibly being "rude" was because of the defensive , unapolgetic manager. Well, they sent the nice delivery guy back with a refund , but made me put the piece of salmon in a napkin so they guy could return it to them. Seriously?? It was laughable making the poor kid ride back holding a peice of fish.
I tried to call the owner , but of course could not reach him. In these economic times you would think hey would want to try to make customers happy. It's sad, because again, the food is decent. Not sure I will order from them again, in fear of them spitting in my food or something.

The counter service was friendly, but the food was very "eek! methinks not." I had the vegan chicken artichoke crepe and it isn't wasn't nearly as tasty as I expected it to be and had an odd sweet flavor. The side salad was lackluster -- a few pieces of romaine, some shredded carrot, a couple of slices of cucumber with balsamic. My companion's tuna-avocado sandwich, which I tasted, seemed void of avocado, had very little tuna, and was served on very hard, cold multigrain bread that was either past its prime or had recently spent some time in a freezer; the sandwich also came with 5 or 6 potato chips. The meal was expensive for what we were served, didn't look appetizing, and didn't taste good.
Also -- to the gals behind the counter: You want to play DJ? Great! But please don't put the same loud cheesy-euro-techno song on 3 times in a row.

Looking for a quick bite to eat late? This place worked. My friend and I were both starving after an event in the area and walked by this place. Small space with about 10 tables. Sandwiches menu written on the wall with chalk (how San Francisco)---sure. Why not. It beats chewing my arm off after not eating for 8 hours.
We both chose the chicken pannini. (Can't mess that up right?) All I can say is eh. It wasn't warm. It was just put on the sandwich. Nothing too crazy. That said, all of these 4 star ratings are making me think that I should come back for a vegan sandwich or take more time to look at the menu. Plus, Chantelle K. lives 2 blocks away and I can see us needing late night food again.
Just saying.
Bonus: Judah Friedlander from 30 Rock walked in around 11:30 to pick up some sandwiches and he seemed to be a regular.

I find that the quality varies depending on time of day and who's working which shift, but overall, this place is an above average cafe. Their menu ranges from the Middle Eastern to middle America with enough to please anyone in between. This is a solid choice if you're looking for quick eats in the area. Cant go wrong.
Rebecca G. and I came here after an art opening, with many glasses of Prosecco sloshing around in our brains and empty, empty stomachs.I was really looking forward to solid, cheap, and perhaps even a healthy meal to satisfy my drunken rumbles, and Atlas was a great decision.
The prices are as rock-bottom as New York gets without having to endure the usual shortcomings of cheap food: limp lettuce, stale buns, etc. The girl who took our order (no waiters--pay at the front and eat at one of the few available tables) was friendly but we had to ask her twice in order to be given cups of tap water. A minor annoyance, considering how distracted I was by my fresh and hearty Tuna Avocado Sandwich on Multigrain Bread with Bean Sprouts and Carrots and my Oreo Cupcake (total: $9.97). Good lawd. It was so moist--and the frosting had crushed Oreo bits in addition to the cookie decorating the top of it. Rebecca got a Vegan BBQ Sandwich and couldn't stop raving about it, even as the sauce coated her knuckles. It's her Texas heritage...
Oh, I love you Atlas! Your prices make my terrifying, jobless (non)future seem a little less immediate and much more delicious. If only your tables weren't squeezed so tightly, I'd give you the five-star treatment.

It's narrow and always crowded, yet somehow I almost always find a table..
Reasonable prices, quick service, good sandwiches, great selection of vegan desserts including Vegan Treats (cakes, brownies, donuts) and VEGAN SOFT SERVE that you can mix any candy into!
There's a secret bathroom in the back, if you're desperate, just ask.
oooh... what can I write about you Atlas, old friend?
I've been going to this place for many years, and usually just for dessert. They do have a pretty sizeable menu of sandwiches, and salads which are decent, and lots of vegetarian options. But somehow I always end up here for dessert.
So what's so special about the desserts you ask? We they're *gasp* vegan, so if you're dairy sensitive, you won't feel like you're gonna explode afterwards, or the next day! But for those who are scared of the word above that I just mentioned, all I can say is you'll be surprised. That's because I'm a long time dessert connoisseur, and we're talking the heavy butter kind. True these desserts won't taste quite what you'd call buttery, but they will taste plenty chocolaty, and plenty sweet.
There's a boardwalk fudge cake which is probably my favorite, and then a death by chocolate. Is there really any better way to die? There are many more, so if you're a red-velvet fan, you'll be satisified too.
Come here with a friend or too, and try, try try to grab a table. You'll be glad you did.
Ah. Talk about a gem. it is tucked away and very cozy. It is a narrow cafe, but I like the closeness. I can be out by myself, but still with others.
The workers were beyond kind.
I don't really like having to walk through the coffee-bar area to get to the restroom, and the restroom itself was VERY dark.
The menu is extensive. Let me say that again, it is EXTENSIVE. Literally takes up an entire wall with everything that they have (which includes tons of vegan options, for all y'all out there)
I was able to pick up wireless, and thus, I spent a few hours in there.
The only thing I did not like was their rice dream chai tea latte. It was really the nastiest thing I had tasted in a long time.
I will be back, definitely.

Atlas is one of those places that you go so often, that you completely forget to review it.
This place is famous mostly because it carries the largest selection of Vegan Treats cakes in the entire NYC metro area. And frankly, they give you the biggest "chunk" for the lowest price. They also carry VT donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies and whoopie pies. There's also vegan soft serve with a fancy toppings list; although now that Stogo and Lula's are both in walking distance to Atlas, I suggest you skip it here and go for a slice of Triple Chocolate Drizzle cake, Peanut Butter Cream donut, or a Pretzel-Mousse brownie.
Besides the awesome desserts (which really, when it comes down to it, is probably the most important thing about this place), I think they have the best cup of coffee in the city. It's so very simple, but it's the first place I was ever able to drink a black cup of coffee. So good.
Now, on to the soups. Which are also incredibly important. The vegetarian Harira and the Lentil soup are what dreams are made up. Served with perfect slices of whole grain bread, it's just divine on a cold day. Get the soup-salad-sandwich combo (a half sandwich here is like the size of a "regular' sandwich, so it's a great deal at under $8). The vegan chicken crepe (with soy cream cheese, sun dried tomatoes and spinach) is amazing, as is the vegan ginger chicken or Moroccan couscous.
The downside is, there's hardly enough space to breathe, and if you come during a rush, the whole process is intimidating. When the whether is warm, it's worth it to grab your goods and go hang out and eat in Washington Square Park.
I love this place. I am not a very picky vegetarian, as long as it's got veggies and no meat I'm game. I discovered this place on my way to a bar with a friend who wasn't a veggie, and the fact that it looks like a hole in the wall attracted us. I fell in love with their tomato and mozzarella cheese sammich (yeah I used the word sammich!). Not a lot of room to sit but who cares, take it out and go to a park and enjoy the night. Go eat there! Maybe you'll run into me. Say hello. We will chat.
Cute cute cute cute cute cute.
Atlas is just plain fricking cute.
The chalkboards, mirrors, the small setting, the people, the smell, cute cute cute cute!
So was the boy I came with here today. Cute!
I'll stop. Come here before it gets too cold and enjoy a brisk fall sandwich experience.
Loved it.

Update: went back, decided I love this place more than before and that the sandwiches are really good.
Enough to make me want to return. I thought this place was decent, a few times, and a few time thought it was "meh". However, my last trip there was pretty good, and I had a mediterranean vegan sandwich that was hot, gooey, and delish.
The deserts always have been a little stale when I've tried them, and some things on the menu are hit or miss. This place is also kind of grimy, and cluster-fuck, but hey, you can't have everything, right?
I also was given a sandwich that wasn't mine, and ran away with it. Heee HEE! I gave it to a homeless kid who was thrilled. Sorry atlas! But I had to do it!

I seriously don't even want to let people know how awesome this place is because its tiny and is always packed as it is, but i gotta show some love. Select anything from the chalkboard menu and you'll be satisfied. Trip over the people that are eating in there while reading the menu and moving up on line, and they won't even care because they are in food heaven. Get up to the register and feel like you're in this some guy's home kitchen who is dying to impress you with what he's made of... rays of sunshine and culinary skills. What ever your name is, you always make my day, and end up making me leave with way more desserts than necessary, or that I care to schlep back to brooklyn, to feed the people at home, who would probably shun me from the apartment if I came back empty handed. Honestly though, I can't ever decide on what I want to try or if i'll stick with the favorites, so bringing home a selection that I can pick off of works for me! Thanks for knowing me so well!!! The red velvet cupcakes with "cream cheese" (its vegan, i dont know what it comes from, and I don't ask) icing are BOMB!!! Whatever you choose, dont pick the cake/brownie/cupcake that there is only one left of. Chances are it's not at it's absolute best, freshness-wise. But if you can get your hands on one of those RED VELVET CUPCAKES (I'm so getting one tomorrow yummm) when its first delivered, you will never, and i said NEVER, go back to egg filled dessert ever again. It will rock your world. Promise.
Okay, so friend who insisted we go to Home Sweet Home the night before also insisted we go to Atlas for their under $10 meals. Epic fail, on both accounts.
The menu is on a giant chalkboard so tiny and smushed together I literally walked out and said "I can't handle this.." I then fought on the street with the BF and the friend and we decided we'd go back in.
Thank god there was a paper menu because the chalk board was giving me the spins. They list platters and pastas together making me think there was an option titled "mediterranean pasta" when I ordered the guy was like "No, my friend. No mediterranean pasta. Just platter.' Well, ass, that's not apparent from the menu. In fact if he was smart he'd say he could throw the ingredients that were on the medi platter (baba ganoush, feta, olives) onto pasta and then we'd all be happy. Alas, he didn't.
So, in a panicked state of having to order because the line was so long for this hole in the wall, I ordered Penne a la Vodka which was non va bene. Tasteless. Bread was cold. Asked if I could have one more piece of bread and it came 30 mins later after my sauce was cold.
Friend who recommended this place got his chicken panini 30 mins after ordering. Karma's a bitch, isn't it?

Love this place. I've been here dozens of times. I think it's great that I can bring my meat-eating friends here, while I can eat something too. Some of my favorites are the Andrea Sandwich (un-chicken salad and avocado), the vegan cubano and the vegan chicken artichoke. They have tons of baked goods from vegan treats (but I eat enough of that at my job.) And the prices are all really, really reasonable. All around 6 bucks for a sandwich.
Never had a problem with any of the staff. They've always been really friendly. Only downside, like most manhattan restaurants, this place is tiny and many a times I've walked in and people are sitting there, no food, no drink, just sitting, come on people! In the winter, I don't come around because it's just too packed. (however they have super-quick take out.) But now that it's spring and the doors are open and the outdoor seating is available I'll be around much more. And I love that they're open late. I think the kitchen is open until 12:30 and they do dessert until 2am.
Only had one bad experience here: I order the vegan cubano. Took a bite or two and it tasted weird. It was actually chicken. I was horrified. They gave me my vegan sandwich and a free piece of cake, which was sweet. But I just felt so sick. This is the downside of a veggie eating at a meat-friendly place. So vegans/veggies just be aware to check before you eat. And clearly specify vegan.

I'm like a kid in a candy store here. Vegan dessert-lover's paradise!
My non-vegetarian friend mentioned that someone recently brought him a vegan cupcake from here and that it was the best cupcake he'd ever had. Having just eaten dinner, we stopped by with the intention of only splitting a cupcake. When I saw the vegan dessert display, I practically knocked him over with my excitement! Had to order several and take more to go!
This is what I tried this evening. Yes, all in one evening. There are still many more to sample.
Vegan cupcake: delicious
Vegan chocolate souffle (chocolate mousse cake): divine
Vegan cherry cheesecake: excellent
Vegan peanut butter chocolate mousse cake/bownie: incredible (the non-veg guy at the next table was practically having an orgasm over his)
Vegan banana blueberry muffin: decent but don't bother, go for the really good stuff
Vegan granola raisin cookie: quite good - does "granola" mean I can eat these for breakfast?
I don't even care that service is far from stellar. The rest of the menu looks fantastic, so I'll be back soon for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee and DESSERT!
Note: they don't take Amex, only Visa and Mastercard.
FYI: Desserts are from Vegan Treats bakery, which also supplies to Teany
UPDATE: the service is still surly but they're open late and the desserts are still amazing. They get their weekly shipment from Vegan Treats on Tuesday so come then for the best and freshest selection
The Reese's and Oreo brownies are also to die for

Atlas is great! I love their vegan cakes. I'm not a vegan, but I go out of my way to go here just for a slice of the Oreo cake.
It's a small space, so it's a good place to grab something on the run if you're on 2nd Avenue. There's also an outdoor area to eat, so that might be a nice alternative. I've never tried their non-dessert food, but they do look tasty. The prices are also very reasonable.

Atlas is delicious.
The crepes, sandwiches and desserts are really good.
I like that they have such an extensive menu as well. I brought my meat eating sister here and we both had tons of options. Most of the fake meat here is just "smart deli" brand you can get at whole foods, but they have their own sauces and toppings that make it a little more special.
The staff is also really helpful and nice.
Highly recommended for herbi's and omni's.
PS. There is a bathroom. You just have to ask the guys at the counter.

This was my first time trying vegan desserts ( I am not vegan by the way) and it was just eh. Maybe I don't appreciate it as much since everything they can, I could have gotten elsewhere and they actually taste better too.
Anyway, it was a cute place but not really somewhere I would go again.
Never ever had a bad meal here.
And I don't expect I ever will.
Atlas was yummy. I ordered the mushroom and cheese ravioli which was quite good but a bit small. Great french bread came on the side.
The atmosphere was comfortable and laid back - a good type of place to catch up with a friend after a long day when you're looking for something on the healthy side.
There is no table service so you have to order with the guy inside next to the glass case. The staff seemed friendly and our meals came out quickly. Cute outdoor seating area but kind of hard to navigate through to get inside as the entire restaurant is pretty small.

The best thing about this place is the selection - they have a mind bogglingly amount of menu items to chose from - and they all look wonderful. Most of their selection is also very healthy which is a good thing. I wasn't very impressed with the food however - it was just "okay." Still - I'm sure to hit upon something I like from the myriad of choices.
The atmosphere is laid back - although it is very tiny and can get cramped. For a time I was doing a show near by and would come here regularly before rehearsals to read or go over my lines - it was always a great place to do that.
Also - once I was out late with a friend and we bought a bottle of wine and had our dessert there - that was a fun way to enjoy the cafe.
