Went to a wedding there Saturday night.  Boy was I impressed.  The food was extremely good, the outdoor ceremony area was picturesque and the dinner was served in the shark tank area with all the tanks with marine animals swimming around.

Very very impressed!!!

My girlfriend and I went to Atlantis Marine World a few weeks ago and had a great time. Its definitely great for kids because it is super interactive. You're allowed to feed the fish in most of the open tanks, and the employees do feedings and "talks" about several of the animals on a regular basis. My favorite were the blue lobsters and some tremendous Japanese crabs. It is a little pricey, but worth it (how often do you go to the aquarium?). Also, they make you exit through the gift shop, so parents beware....

What a fun way to spend an afternoon. I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and was surprised at how nice it is. I thought my 7 month old daughter would be too young to enjoy it but she absolutely loved watching the fish swim around! The tanks are so big and beautiful that we could spend hours there just watching the fish.  The shark tank was really impressive and they actually offer the opportunity to go into the tank in one of those cages!

We didn't see any of the shows but the have a sea lion show and a penguin feeding. The also have some cool tanks where you can touch sting rays and horseshoe crabs.  Other kids there seemed to really enjoy that.

It can be expensive, but as others said, it can be done in one day and is worth the experience. On a side note - we met Frank Mundus when we were there - he was the inspiration for Quint in Jaws. It was really cool to talk to him about his experiences and look at pictures he has of the many sharks he's caught. I definitely recommend getting out to Atlantis - it's educational and fun!

East End Aquarium for the whole family.

I have to admit, there is something primeval in me that gets off on watching giant sharks swim around a tank.

The place has only been open a few years but by virtue of being new, it is well planned out and there are so many interesting things to see and do there - even though the place is rather on the small side.

Just when you thought an aquarium couldn't be exciting, they now offer a freaking shark dive inside the tanks- you go down in a cage inside the shark tank with a certified scuba guy and the fish are swimming right around you - how cool is that?

There is a food court that was pricey but decent.  To be snarky, I suggested they serve sushi...
I didn't see a parking lot - I parked a few blocks away and walked it over.
Absolutely worth the trip.

I can't say enough good about the Atlantis Aquarium.  This place is a great addition to the East End.  They have awesome exhibits featuring many fish, a touch tank, dolphins, sharks, penguins, and some monkeys and birds in the back!!  The seal show in the summer is fun, and definitely worth the time.  Unlike other aquariums, you can see it all in one day, and it is almost impossible to miss anything, so don't plan to go here every weekend.

The aquarium keeps growing and it is definitely worth a trip.  It is a tad bit expensive to go in so if you have a family of 4, be prepared to pay upwards of $70.

I had the opportunity to go to this aquarium a few years back and decided it was worth a trip out east to go there again this past weekend. With my parental units and girlfriend in tow we made the long schlep out to Riverhead. We were happy to see that there is indeed a parking lot (two actually) and the fact that it was now slightly off season made the parking free and the lot fairly empty at 11:00am. We paid our (slightly exorbitant) admissions and decided it worth it to purchase a combo ticket that included a boat ride (my girlfriend and I had done the boat last time and loved it). The aquarium is small, and just about EVERYTHING costs extra... but it is a beautiful place that is well designed, and that almost makes up for the cost.

When you first walk in, make sure to stop and play with the rays that they have in the entry. They are extremely friendly and are incredibly fun to pet and play with. You don't have to be scared of them as they have had their stingers trimmed off, much like a person would have their nails trimmed. If you want to spend an extra $2 you can purchase a very small plate of food for them and that was fun too, but  a little challenging as their mouths are underneath their bodies. Also be sure to stop in the animal rehabilitation area to see what noble work is being done to assist the poor marine creatures that fall ill or are injured (mainly due to human induced circumstances like pollution or territory reduction). It is heartbreaking to see how our careless actions and greedy ambition to take over all the natural spaces in this world, is negatively impacting the creatures that these spaces once belonged to. I decided to "adopt" one of the seals they had rescued named Otis, and with my donation I even got a picture of him to bring home!!!

What really made our day memorable was the boat ride. They take you on an educational boat ride up the peconic river and into the estuary where you stop briefly on a small island to talk about the native plants and oceanic life. It was truly a wonderful experience. The "tour guide" is a volunteer from a local aquatic foundation and our guide was FANTASTIC!!! We learned so much and got to see all the beauty that the Atlantic shore line has to offer. We also got a rare treat and were able to see an Osprey in it's nest. How majestic nature truly is.

The other thing that made the trip well worth it is the natural, living coral reef that they have inside the aquarium. All I can say is WOW. It is the largest living coral reef in any aquarium in the northern hemisphere and it is breathtaking. You can stand there for hours and still see new types of fish emerging from the beautiful coral. I took hundreds of pictures and they still can't do justice to the colors and shapes found within the tank. It is well worth the trip to see this at least once, especially if you have never had a chance to go snorkeling at a wild coral reef.

Another treat was the baby Harbor seal that was just born in June.  She was a lovely surprise and was ADORABLE!!!! I was lucky enough to catch a small video of her and she is just too cute for words.
