Went with a group of 11 friends for a quick lunch.  I didn't have any expectations due to the fact that the place looks average from the outside so I expected a standard lunch.

I had the fish tacos, crab mac & cheese and my friend "checked in" on yelp and we got an order of free disco fries.

Let me just say that my food exceeded all expectations and was over-all excellent.  My favorite was the diso fries! They were fries topped with cheese (really good cheese) and brown gravy.  It was amazing and I've been dreaming about it since!  If you stop by Atlantic Coast make sure you get them!  The fish tacos were also good and featured BOTH soft and hard shells (together).  The crab mac & cheese was good but my least favorite.

BTW - My friends ordered grilled cheese, flounder fish and the oyster po' boy and enjoyed them as well.

Bottom line, theres lots of variety, its well priced and the staff are super friendly and don't forget to order the disco fries!

Awesome, awesome, awesome.  You're always a winner here.  The service was great the food was delicious, and there were suggestions.  As someone from out of town, you always want to feel welcomed, where ever you go, and this is that spot.

Once checking in I received free offer for disco fries. Which are french fries, gravy, and cheese.  It was pretty awesome.  You're going to love it!!!!  I also order the fish bites, which were a bit spicy, yet packed with great taste.  That was also ordered with a side of crabby mac.  A blend of crab meat and macaroni and cheese.  The portions, were a lot large than I figured them to be, which makes it an even better bargain for your buck!!!

Not only was the food great, but the atmosphere, was very comfortable and hommie.  I really recommend you stopping here, and enjoying every bit of it.  Its simply inexpensive, service was great, and there was much variety.  ENJOY!!!!

Very solid restaurant for the beach (probably get 3 stars if it was in the Triangle).  Stopped by on the way home from Frisco.  The service was friendly and quick.  My wife had a shrimp salad wrap that was almost all shrimp, looked good.  My daughter had the small order of mac cheese and it was bigger than the kids meals at most place.  I had a "deluxe" grilled cheese, which was grilled cheddar (had a choice of swiss, american or colby jack) avocado, tomato and bacon on wheat with fries.  Sandwich was very solid and the fries were definitely above average (I recommend them over the standard bag of chips).  They also had as a special a burger patty with grilled onions and bacon between two grilled cheese sandwiches, I did not dare it but it was definitely interesting.  Would go back.

Good food and decent prices for being on the island. Sweet staff.
We went there for breakfast once and it was big portions, good tasting but pricy.
We always go for lunch and it's awesome. Always have to get the fries because they are like funnel cake texture. So good. Recommend it!!!

We went there for lunch- I had a fried shrimp wrap & the husband had the "Beefster". Both were excellent. My only complaint was the service- they were very, very slow & it was not crowded at all!

I was looking for oysters on the half shell, but this is more American fare with some sea food choices. I did not care for the coleslaw which was drowned in pepper but the rest was great and we had a friendly waiter.

We all had some tasty wraps and they have unique sodas that I've never seen before. The prices were OK and the atmosphere quiet.

We got there about 45 minutes before closing (at 3 pm? strange hours) and the woman at the counter was flying around the place, cleaning up. MAN was she pissed when people walked in at 2:50! She made us nervous with those grinding teeth and Marlboro-damaged vocal cords so we jetted before she brought out the frying pan of justice.

ACC is one of the very few good choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner on Hatteras Island.  Most places here only serve lunch & dinner or only specialize in one or two meals a day.  Atlantic Coast Cafe has great breakfast options, really good teas (I don't drink coffee but I understand from friends that it's also good!), smoothies as a meal or a nice healthy snack or treat, lunch and dinner are really great as well.  Last summer on Thursday evenings they had live acoustic music and tapas and I really hope they have it again this summer!!  Highly recommend ACC!

We like to go on Wednesday nights to sit on the patio and listen to Sean Bendua. Love it! Everything we have tried here is delicious, creative, and fresh. I'm am now an addict of their veggie nachos. Fast and friendly service! I have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences here.

So, we were going to play touron and dine at Dirty Dick's at the kid's request. But it looked like a school cafeteria inside, and had an hour wait (or longer) for our party of 13. So a few of our party ran up here, found it had space for us, and we shifted here.

Service was awesome. Even though the place was fairly busy, they rearranged a bunch of tables to get us in. You are supposed to order at the counter, then sit out on the covered patio ... but they just came out and took our order to simplify it. And in spite of our large party, they were on top of water, drink refills, etc.

The food was also solid. We were expecting just sandwiches and wraps ... it's a casual family kind of place. But they also had some dinner specials. A few people got the seafood quesadillas, and raved. The fish and chips basket and the spicy tuna burger special were also hits.

As a bonus, tonight was music night, and some dude Sean (from Ohio) was playing an acoustic set of originals and covers ... and he was pretty good.

The whole experience exceeded expectations. We'd go back.

To write about my experience at Atlantic Coast Cafe isn't enough.  I loved it there!  I guess being at the beach all day and having no errands or demands to attend to helps with the experience.

We had a party of 8+baby and went in, on a Thursday, when they host a TAPAS & LIVE MUSIC night.  We sat in the tented patio and it was great! Having the OBX breeze & Ohio native Sean strum Jack Johnson-esque tunes really set the vibe.

NOW- the cuisine.  KENNY THE CHEF RULES THE EARTH!  We ordered 2 of each of the tapas, which change every Thursday.  Baja lettuce wraps with accompanying peanut sauce, crab stuffed shrimp & the fried green tomatoes are as yummy as they sound.

Tuna Oscar with crab drizzled with Hollandaise served over spinach alongside asparagus & Sun Dried Tomato risotto.  Let's stop right there.  That risotto was incredible!  I could eat a bowl of that everyday for the rest of my life and still be craving the next day.

Herb Crusted Mahi over fresh green and champagne vinaigrette.  Are you serious?  A tapa?  It's unfair to share.  I, as many agreed, could eat this as a meal. suggestion:  Add the risotto and I'm as happy as a clam

All washed down with a great sangria followed by la dolce vita.  I'm not a coffee ice cream kinda gal but they have a coffee ice cream sandwich with oatmeal raisin cookies.  One of my favorite cookies.  Those gigantic cookies were so soft, moist & delicious.  I almost ended up eating my boyfriends dessert!  BUT mine was equally delicious.  Fried ice cream.  One of the best I've tasted. Not that cheap corn flake topping.  I hate when ppl try to pass that off.

The short of it- I know, too late- was a great visit.  AND  if we weren't leaving back home, I know we'd be back.

NOTE TO OBX (Avon & surrounding areas) VISITORS:
    ATLANTIC COAST CAFE, especially Thursdays.

FYI:  I took a copy of the menu home to help me write this review.  I didn't want to forget a detail.

I was glad to see the Dirty Dick's gone (although it just moved).  The ACC is a nice, clean place that my wife and I went to for lunch.  I consider myself a novice expert (?) on fish tacos and luckily they were a special on the day we went.  These were the best fish tacos that I had during our 2 week stay in Hatteras Village.  They are served on a hard shell that is wrapped in a soft shell (I LOVE THAT).  These two shells are held together with a jalapeno cream cheese although I didn't taste much of that.  The fish inside the taco is topped with a nice crab and seafood salsa.  They give you 2 tacos and that is plenty as the portion size of each is enormous.  I had a side of mac n cheese which is always a hit with me.  My wife had the Spicy Tuna Burger and the Corn Crab Chowder.  The Chowder was ok but the tuna was very nice.  It was huge.  My wife actually removed it from the bun because a piece of tuna that nice should not be ruined with a run of the mill white roll.

Nice place and we would definitely go back.

One more note, my Father-in-Law agreed that the ACC fish tacos were the best of the trip.
