Everybody loves to hate the cable company. But I gotta give a shout out to the surprisingly smooth experiences I've had lately.

I recently had salesman knock on my door advertising upgrades and TV/Internet packages. I'm sure I was targeted because I don't have cable, only Internet. I can appreciate an enthusiastic salesman so listened to his pitch. Upon discovering a FASTER plan was advertised as CHEAPER my current bill, I immediately called in and they honored the special. Aww yea! No contract, no frills. To avoid a $50 service fee for maintenance to come to my place and install the new router required ($6 rental fee/month), I just went to HQ myself. Customer service there was friendly and efficient. Was out the door in 3 minutes back to my speedy Internet.

    Zoom Zoom Zoom!

I have to say, I haven't had any major problems with Atlantic Broadband.  Infact, of all my new utilities of my new move, Atlantic Broadband was the best/easiest installation of them all.

I appreciate that I didn't have to sign a contract to obtain service, etc.

What I do NOT like is that basic cable simply is not enough.  And I think they have HBO (unavailable) in my "free channels" between 2-79ish.  Maybe I"m misreading it - cuz it simply doesn't seem right.

Regardless, either the television programming down here is REALLY bad - or AB needs to up what they provide in "basic" cable.  It's still pretty expensive compared to the direct TV advertisements that show up on my door.  AND, I can't find any free movies, etc. - unlike the mass amount of free movies that Comcast offers.

So, I believe I'm receiving what I agreed to pay for - but it's  not comprable compared to what I had at home in New England and even versus other available/competitive options.  They were expedient in their installation, professional in getting it all set-up and it has worked since the day they installed it - so thanks but please give me a little more for my $$$ - please?

The first problem was the service went completely out. I had to stay home from work while they fixed it, but the problem was outside, so I wasted a day since the problem had nothing to do with me. Basically, the cable box had fallen or been ripped off the wall and none of the cables were still attached.

The second problem, I receive notice that I didn't pay them, but I signed up for auto billing? I go online and pay by credit card. Nine days later I get disconnection notice. Now, on the web site, on one page it says I owe them money, on the other page it says I paid them in full. I remained patient. I signed up over the phone for credit card auto payments instead.

In three days, my service is completely off. I can see my modem is connected to them but there is no service. They reboot my modem several times, forward me to another tech who does the same thing. At the end of all this the solution is I should buy a new modem to replace my now two months old one. Better idea? Cancel and just use my AT&T MiFi 4G -- I just can't go through all that again with them.

Oh, and I've lived in many states and had service, this is the first problem I've ever really had with cable service. I hate cables, I hope everything goes wireless.

I've had Alantic Broadband for over ten years and it is the very worst service that one could imaginne.  Unfortunately, the GOVERNMENT has made it so that it's the only option.  What the Hell is going on here?  We pay for the privilege of being constantly screwed by a cable company and the politicians that take their money just keep on keeping on.  What a ripoff.  Atlantic BB couldn't care less about the service, they have a MONOPOLY........

I have had Atlantic Broadband for many years since being charged mystery fees by ATT. I am old enough to remember when cable first started and it was advertised as not going to have any TV commericals (yeh, right!) One of the reasons I haven't changed is because when I  do call, I have a minimal menu and I actually get to talk to a person with out the 15-25 min. wait of ATT. It is definitely the better of the two

These guys have essentially stolen a $100 security deposit I paid at inception in lieu of a credit check.

I have the bank statement that shows a huge charge from Atlantic broadband inclusive of the deposit, but not the itemized receipt from Atlantic Broadband.  I have called and talked to three people to apply the deposit to a small remaining charge.  The representatives always promise to "research and call back," yet never do.

They have submitted a remaining balance to collection, so I will just have to pay in order to protect my credit rating.  I plan to file an attorney general complaint.

    Why does this company suck?

    let's count the ways:

    1. They insist on charging you a $40 fee so that they can send a tech out to "install" a cable card into my TiVo.

    2. No appointment confirmation call which means that I get to call and HOLD for 20 minutes to make sure I am scheduled.

    3. Wasting my Saturday morning for an 8am-12p appointment where the tech called at 9:30 to ask if he can reschedule because the cable cards he has don't work. Really? They need to have someone send him some that work out on the field because at the end of the day, I am wasting my Saturday PAYING for this to happen so make it work!

    3. The tech is a bit too comfortable, "sweetie," "honey," - yeah, I have boobs but guess what, I'm a customer not your chick so have some manners. Totally sleezy.

    4. They offer to waive the fee and come back on Monday. Yay, 2 days with no cable so they offer to "prorate" and take it off  my bill....

I get my bill and... ALL the fees are there, which means, I get to call in, wait on hold and have to talk to 3 different CSRs for them to finally agree to do what they said they would do in the first place.

Can I give them ZERO stars???

Anyone have a better suggestion for internet and cable in Miami Beach? Atlantic Broadband is terrible.

Internet has slowed down considerably as of late, but that's not even the worst of it. We had a cable meltdown recently, no explanation given, our box just stopped working. After numerous calls to tech support they sent out a know-nothing tech who tried to persuade me to take a battered, used cable box. I sent him on his way and AB sent me a new box,  but the sound quality on my television is terrible.

Atlantic Broadband sent out another tech who told me that the poor sound was because I had a cheap tv but his cousin sells stereo adapters and he could 'hook me up'. Are you joking!? I pointed out that not only is my television not cheap, but that the sound works fantastic when using my xbox and when using anything not related to AB cable. I threw him out.

    Atlantic Broadband is a joke.

It's been about a year since I got the basic cable / super-fast internet package.

I have had no problems what-soever...  Just did a connection speed test before writing this post and got 17.5 Mb/s which is *FASTER* than their rated connection.

I seriously don't understand how people can complain... Very few parts of the country are getting this kind of speed.

My advice to people have speed / connection issues - BUY your own cable modem instead of renting theirs... You'll save money and avoid the risk of using refurbished equipment.  Also make sure you're wireless router is capable of handling super-fast speeds...

Honestly, very surprised that other people are experiencing slow connections or outages, b/c I haven't experienced any of that at all.

As for cable TV, its ok, not great - mostly because their programming guide is not as well setup as say DirectTV's, nor is their DVR all that great...  But I use Netflix anyway, and with my superfast internet connection, streaming comes out great.

Also, would agree with other reviewers that customer service and that there are long hold times, but I haven't had a reason to call since I've set up my internet.

Best overall internet experience I've ever had, way better than ATT DSL, Timewarner, etc etc.

I have Atlantic Broadband because I have no option: it's is included in my HOA. Even though it includes a lot of premium channels (HBO, Starz, Encore, Showtime) there are so many problems that I never thought I will be missing Comcast (my provider at a previous address).

    - The DVRs don't have enough memory and the first two had so many problems that I had to change them (and therefore losing many shows without watching them - so what's the point of having a DVR?)
    - Every time that I have called their customer service, I've waited between 10 and 20 minutes for a customer service to answer the call.
    - NO HBO Go and no news about even if it's coming soon.
    - If you start watching a show on the DVR and don't finish it, when you access again it's shown from the beginning. Same for the On Demand service.
    - For decoders they only have one option: digital DVRs. So, if you want something less expensive for an extra room, you will only get a few channels. Haven't they heard of the small and cheap set top boxes?

Yes, I know everyone loves to hate on the cable company. When they say "Thank you for choosing Atlantic Broadband" I want to yell "But I have no choice!"
However, my last experience was the opposite.
I called due to a channel that had been unclear for a long time.
The repair man called me when he was nearby. I wasn't home-since I am not going to stay in on a Saturday from 11-4
I asked him to come back in a 1/2 hour. He agreed. Can you believe it?
When he did return (an  hour later) He fixed the problem immediately.
What can I say; a good experience with the cable company is definitely worth yelping about.

I'm going to quote fellow Yelper Elizabeth S. to start this review out:

"If I had another choice I'd dump you faster than I could make my fingers dial your horrible customer service number with a 30 minute wait."

Hear, hear. Atlantic Broadband has horrendous customer service. They are remarkably difficult to deal with. Don't even think about visiting the North Bay Village store on a Saturday for assistance. We waited in line for an hour; there was one clerk.

A tip that will hopefully help out some poor souls: they only keep refurbished equipment at the store for walk in customers. Brand new boxes are ONLY given to technicians to install in the homes of new customers. We were fortunate to be given this tip by an employee. So, after returning to the store three times to trade out our DVR HD box for a working one, we realized it was pointless as we were getting used machines that other people had already returned for being broken. We then had to take time off work to wait for a technician at home, who came after the window had expired.

I'm so over this pathetic attempt for a cable company. AT&T U-verse, here I come!

I recently came across this service provider. First of all, their starter package is a deceptive marketing practice and should be either taken off the market or upgraded to a higher speed. Yes, it's faster than dial-up , but at only 320Kbps it is 25 times slower than their $50.95 package. I seriously doubt many customers are using it and if they are, saddens me to think the amount of time they are wasting. The Rep told me it was for a student, but that's even worse. I was insulted by that comment. It really should be re-labeled as Dial-up Plus and at 320Kbs, it's hard Broadband. My iPhone Edge service was certainly never represented as a broadband service.

When I called Broadband Customer Service about this, they told me that's what the customer ordered. My reply was, would you buy this service for your mom or dad? They also said, the other Cable Service Providers offered a 1MB package. My reply, that doesn't make it right.

In any regard, NO ONE SHOULD get the Starter Package, it's way too slow. The Preferred Service is $50 or less and you might consider an alternate vendor if that's not within your budge. BTW, the Preferred Service was enabled in a few seconds and the service was downloading at well over 7MB, even on wi-fi.

    Starter Kit
    Speed: Up to 320Kbps
    $25.95 to 34.95 +$25 installation

    Preferred Service
Speed: Up to 8 Mbps / 512 Kbps
    $36.95 to $50.95 + $25 installation

    Max Service
    Speed: Up to 12 Mbps
    $48.95 to $68.95 + $25 installation

It's usually a quick in and out here. I'm always lucky and get there before a line comes. They have great customer service and the works. The first time I went there they gave me an old beat up remote though. Its paint was all chipping off probably because I got the cheapo plan. Went home then I came back to upgrade twice. They recently went up on their already pricey rates. I'm paying $80 for BASIC cable. Gee, Starz & Encore. Wow. Thanks.  *eyeroll*  "High-speed" internet is spotty at best.

Very disappointed with this company's poor product but on the beach and in my building, in particular, it's the only option. :-(

Maybe I'm just a low demand customer, but I have had Atlantic Broadband for a year in Miami Beach, and I have never had a problem with either the service or customer service.  My speeds are a pretty consistent 15mb down and 1.5 up, as promised, and the few times that I have called tech support, someone has been able to answer my questions.  Since I am pretty technology literate, my questions are usually relatively sophisticated issues and not the simple "unplug and reboot" type issues.  I'm not sure that any cable company is an enjoyable experience, and definitely not a great deal, but unlike the reviewers below, my experience has only been favorable, from a technical standpoint.

    WORST. CABLE. COMPANY. EVER!

    --Molases-slow internet.

    --Clueless tech support.

    --Frequent outages.

--OD programs take days to show up.

--Often poor reception (fuzzy, pxilated signals)

--No show (or late) repair people.

--When they do show, they never fix the problem, resulting in...

--...another visit and an afternoon or morning away from the office.

--Oh, and $$$$$ expensive.  NYC (Time Warner) was cheaper.

--Long waits on hold for some Yahoo from rural West Virginia (where the company is apparently headquartered) who has no clue where Miami Beach even is.

WHY, WHY, WHY did Miami Beach ever award the franchise to these Hillbilly bozos?  Totally third world service, yet European prices.

Terrible company.  The broadband speeds I recieved were less than half what they claimed.

The HD channel selection is limited and they are really slow to add new HD channels.

And they are so expensive - on my tv-broadband bundle they were $40 more a month than AT&T u-Verse, and on the video portion $30 more than DirectTV.

Paying a huge premium for an inferior product.  I can't believe these guys are still in business.

I've had to have them send a serviceman out 6 times in the 7 months i've lived here!!!   OH, don't forget! it costs $25 if the service people decide that nothing is wrong. (If you don't speak spanish, good luck trying to even understand what they are saying...)  Honestly,  I've NEVER had so many problems with my internet in my entire life! (I'm writing this using the internet from my Edge iPhone... The Service people won't be able to make their 7th visit for 2 more days...)  one last thought... (Your Customer Service is really really awful...)

THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!  AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!

There aren't enough words in the four languages that I speak to describe how heinous, dastardly and terrible the so called "Service" is that Atlantic Broadband delivers to it's Victims!!!

The Customer (Victims) Service (Torture) department that can only offer a cycle of your modem!!! No matter what your problem is, that's all they know how to do!

The Bills that constantly go Up!

The Cable Service that consistently breaks up and gets worse!

The equipment that they seem to get from a Junk Yard and have it run over a few times by a garbage truck before they deliver it to you!

The run around that they give you when you call them about their Horrendous Lack of Service!

If you have to find a new place to live, If you have a choice to choose another provider, any provider would be light years better!!!  Comcast, At&T, Dish Network, DirctTV!!!  Anyone, Anyone would be better than them.

THEY ARE SO HORRIBLE THAT I'M CONSIDERING LOSING MY SECURITY DEPOSIT AND LAST MONTHS RENT TO MOVE AWAY FROM THEM!!!  I can't get satellite service in my building and there is no other cable company that you can get in Miami Beach!

I'm also considering turning the cable off for the last 3 Months of my lease!!!  THAT'S HOW SATANICALLY AWFULL THIS UGLY WRECK OF AN ORGANIZATION IS!!!!!!!!!!

I started with this company approx. 2 years ago because of the price and I thought I had picked a winner --- it turns out not so much.  As soon as the promotional period for my package was over (no advanced warning)  my costs for services doubled.

When you call customer service to find out why and if there is anything that can be done the attitude is; oh well if you don't like it look elsewhere. Well I AM!  I hope to be rid of this company as soon as possible ---I feel exactly like Leah W.  ---I wish I had read Yelp first because I never would have signed up.  What really kills me is that I recommended them to my neighbors in the building ------before they find out what I got them into at the next building meeting I'm gonna tell them so that I don't find egg on my door (even though I still might)!

Can't imagine why a local government would give them a franchise.  Picture quality is poor, on-screen channel listing frequently lists wrong shows or shows none at all.  Their customer service folks should be working for the U.S. Postal Service  --  that's how customer-friendly and competent they are.

I'm writing this review while waiting on hold to speak to a representative ... I'll probably have enough time to review everything on Yelp -- and might as well: I can't watch the TV for which I pay $180 per month. Yesterday my girlfriend and I upgraded to two DVRs, which was exciting (partly because  it meant swapping an old one that never worked for a newer model). Whoops. Neither DVR works properly. Both don't get OnDemand, while one needs to reboot itself almost every hour and the other DOES. NOT. GET. SOUND! That's really just the tip of the iceberg. I now include a prayer for ATT U-Verse to come to Miami Beach in my pre-bedtime rituals.  Atlantic Broadband, why do you not give a f--- that you are the most hated cable company?

Terrible. Overpriced.  About $140.00 per month.  They charge way too much, because they "bundle" services, which means you have to receive and pay for channels and services you neither want, nor use.  They should offer alacarte selections, so I only get and pay for what I need.  In order to get highspeed internet, I had to buy a whole lot of other stuff I didn't want. If Kendrick Meek wants my vote, he should regulate this industry better !
