Review from Kristin B.
Atlanta, GA
I'm writing this review not as an overnight hotel guest, but as a frequent conference, banquet, and awards night attendee. In this capacity, I can say the Marriott Marquis would be my venue of choice in the downtown area for major dinner events. This would not have been the case five years ago, but a major remodel of their event space and their menu offerings makes this the place I get most excited about coming to when I see their name on an invitation.
First, my insider tip. If you are attending an event here, skip the onsite parking, which is almost always ridiculously overpriced, and frequently fills up if your event is over 500 people. Instead, park at the garage at the intersection of Andrew Young and Peachtree Center. It's only $5 on the weekends, and you'll skip the crowds waiting for valet at the Marriott, both coming and going.
For events themselves, I've never seen or heard a hitch with the A/V or staging. Tables and centerpieces are always immaculate, and I love the modern and clean floral looks they've been featuring lately. The one downside to your meal will probably be the service. You'll have to ask for water refills and to get any coffee at all. But the food here is fantastic for hotel banquet food. If you attend enough banquets, you get used to the standard baked chicken+starch+green vegetable, and if you're lucky, a preplated dessert that features chocolate and at least a hint of romaine in the preplated, limp salad. Not the case at this Marriott! The last event I attended here was for a black tie function with over 500 attendees, and we feasted on filet (slightly overcooked for my taste, but to be expected), roasted vegetables (asparagus still had some snap, woohoo!), and a creamy risotto (risotto? on a preplated dinner? oh yeah). The salad was all dark greens and had a lovely vinegarette.
But the dessert was what really took my by surprise: a buttery sweet pastry basket half dipped in melted chocolate filled with a crem brulee eme type filling (with flecks of real vanilla!) topped with fresh whipped cream and berries. I'm morally opposed to mushy/custards desserts, so this would usually be the type of thing I skip, but I'm so glad I didn't. This dessert was amazing! So much so, that I noticed all of the folks at my table scraping their plates to get every last bit.Listed in: Business Trippin'

I was impressed.
I've been to several hotels lately for conferences/dinners. This was by far the best. Well organized and friendly staff - saw plenty of smiles and positive attitude.
The food was good from breakfast, to sandwiches, to appetizers and dinner. Nothing that would make me fore go a five star restaurant, but nothing that would make me crave McD's either!
The rooms were what i expect for Marriott - clean with a comfortable bed. I'd recommend to anyone needing a hotel in downtown ATL. -
Review from Sarah B.
We stayed here on an overnight passing through two weeks ago, and it was OK, but not really quite as positive of an experience as the other yelpers reviews I read prior to booking.
First of all, their valet parkers stink. We pulled in at 5 PM to a sign that said Garage Full, see valet for other options. What? Luckily our package we reserved in advance included valet parking, so we pretty much got exempted from that... but really?
This hotel has 1,600 rooms - the fith largest Marriott in the franchsie. I'm told there are always at least one or two conventions happening. The convention going on when we checked in on St. Patricks' Day was some kind of animators group, so seriously - about 1,000 college age and slightly older people running around in full costume. Everything from Thunder Cats to bloody surgeons to about a dozen Star Wars paratroopers. Whatever.
Check in was a little slow but allowed. The elevator banks are all grouped around the cool architectural design to keep those lines minimal. Inconvenient at times, but probably the best way to do it.
I was a little put off at check in that the clerk tried to "upgrade" us for an additional $10 to a premium room. I picked a higher floor King with a pacakge when I reserved... so really? You're gonna try and upsell me again?
You might as well never indicate your requests for extra towels, extra pillows, etc. on the Marriott reservation system, because it never happens.
The room was OK, the bathroom was SMALL. One of those bathrooms where you wish you could remove the bathroom door because you have to shut it to take a shower, then the bathroom gets all steamed up because the door is shut.
Things were clean enough, and the bed was comfortable enough. This area of Atlanta has a large homeless encampment really close by if you're out after dark.
Our package also included breakfast the next morning, and the restaurant Sear was quite good and the breakfast buffet really exceptional. Don't miss the fruit juice by the waffle station where they take the previous day's fruit and process it all into juice for the next morning (according to our waitress that's what it is, anyway). It's really quite good where ever it came from.
Checking out maneuvering down to valet parking with all the previously-costumed folks was unpleasant but not as bad as it could have been. They have a sign in that area that says all cars are guaranteed to be brought up in 45 minutes and that they appreciate your patience. Thank goodness it was only about 10 minutes - I guess that sign sets your expectations so you're hopefully pleasantly surprised.
We probably would not stay here again. Very nearby is the W Hotel that for basically the same price I bet has a better set of parking valets and a bathroom where I can turn around and not hit myself in the behind.
Plus, the freaking Marriott chain still charges for internet. That's enough reason to switch on its own, too. -

Beautiful hotel and exceptional service. A little pricey though. You know. One of those places where everyone gets a tip... Strangely, it's also a great place to work out. Climb the 50+ flights of stairs then ride down to the bar :-)

I went here with Lesley and another couple to a bridal expo, so I can only review the events portion of the business.
The location was fairly easy to find and the set up was average once we went inside. Their event halls were large and provided a nice setup for each of the vendors. I liked that the events were on the lower floors so we did not have to navigate through the guest areas.
Staff was friendly and restrooms were clean.
I would go back to another event here. -

I stayed at the Marriott Marquis over the MLK Weekend and have to say, I was truly impressed. The front desk staff went over and beyond the call of duty, and were extremely professional. When I arrived, it was a bit before check-in time and at first, all they had available was a room on the 18th floor. The front desk person (I don't remember her name) took an extra second and located a room with a king bed on the 34th floor! Smiling ear to ear, I went to the room.
The room itself is a bit small, but it's a hotel room, not an apartment. The bed was extremely comfortable, the view magnificent, and it was very clean. The bathroom was a bit small, but the shower was very relaxing with good water pressure and a constant temperature. Plenty of channels on the TV to watch if you chose not to go anywhere.
Speaking of.....the hotel has its own Starbucks, a convenience store, and a full service bar, restaurant, pool and fitness center. Needless to say, this hotel has plenty to do, eat and drink on site....albet it is not cheap!
Parking is a bit steep at (I believe) $32 per night, but you can save that money and take the MARTA - which is directly connected to the hotel. You have to take the elevator to the Atrium level and the passageway starts near the "Loft". It'll take you through a office tower and a mall before leading you to the train station. This passage closes at night though, but the area directly outside of the hotel didn't seem overly dangerous. Just use common sense as in any major city.
The only reason why it is not a 5-star stay is because during the last day of my stay, the fire alarm went off in the hotel, and because the atrium is open all the way to the top of the hotel, regardless of what floor the alarm sounds, you will hear it. There was NO announcement or direction stating whether it was a drill, a test, or a false alarm. I found this a little strange (and a little scary), especially in a 49-story tower.
I will be back to this hotel, however. It was an excellent place. -

West Hartford, CT
Pluses: a nice, clean comfortable hotel with pretty cool architecture. Despite being a beastly 1,600+ rooms, all the stuff we encountered seem happy, plate, and accommodating. A big plus is the lively bar on the atrium level and the fancy sports bar which serves food late (great veggie dumplings and shrimp tacos). Convenient location with a Starbucks and market (usual hotel market fare but also has some prepared foods and the like which could save you a trip out to forage). Not a swank W type hotel, but the place in general seems very well kept up and well cared for.
Minuses: The indoor/outdoor pool feels like it could use a renovation as it feels a little dated despite being clean. This place is big and if you do not like heights, be sure to ask for a lower floor when you book because a ride to the 30-41st floors is quite a ride. -
Review from Tilia M.
This place was wonderful- a breath of fresh air after changing hotels at the last minute. The pricing was right (it was off-season/holiday, so, yay for me!), the service was pretty good, and the room was right on-par with what you'd expect from a Marriott.
I stayed on the 35th floor and the best thing was the wall-long window that gave us a spectacular view of the just south of the city. If you can, and can stomach VERY high places, make sure you get an upper room. (Hang on when you go up and down the elevators though - they zoom up and down, and my stomach was doing flips!)
The 'meh' part of my overnight stay: the parking is $30! Not to mention that this place nickels and dimes you for everything, so, if you need, say, an extra fork or something, there's a room service charge, so be aware of that.
The hotel itself was gorgeous, and I'd definitely stay here, especially for the price and the design. -
Review from Lou G.
Stunning architecture makes this hotel a great destination. I stayed for a weekend, and even on the last day found myself still admiring the design and enjoying the dizzying elevator ride down to checkout. The pool is a great indoor/outdoor design and also included a tiny jacuzzi. The hotel was very busy, yet I never had a long wait to check in or out. Internet was $15 for 24 hours, not to cool. Parking was an issue, the Marriott lot was full, but found cheaper parking right across the street. Part of the fun of my stay was that "Momicon", an anime, cos-play, gaming convention was at the hotel, so i spent the weekend taking 40 floor elevator rides with superheroes, scantily clad superwomen, and more than my fair share of Furries!

Review from Kris G.
when on a business trip (which i'm on a LOT of with my new job), there are only a few things i require from a hotel; anything more is just perks.
- a clean bed with comfy linens
- clean towels
- some flexibility on early check-in/late check-out
- a restaurant in the hotel and/or room service
the marriott marquis did me way better than that! this sky-scraping behemoth gave me a fairly spacious room on the 37th floor, affording me a great view of the city. the bed linens and towels were plentiful and clean. and they have not one, but three restaurants in the hotel, or you can eat at the bar, which i opted to do. i only had the spinach artichoke dip, but it was quite tasty and they get bonus points for it being served with both toasted bread and chips.
it was totally affordable ($139/night + $32 for valet), and for that price you get more luxury than you'd expect. i'll definitely stay here again when i travel to atlanta!Listed in: hotel, motel, holiday inn..., Hot-Lanta

I stayed here for several days to attend a national conference and was highly impressed with the ambiance and location. Room was very comfortable even though the hotel was undergoing renovations. Would return if job needs me to attend another function.

This place is architecturally amazing. The upward spiraling hits you as you walk in as you look up and see all 47 floors from the lobby. The lighting and décor is amazing.
Rooms are very clean, nicely laid out, great toiletries in the bath rooms. LCD TVs that had a clear picture and full windows to look out over the city.
Bathroom was very small but clean and functional.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, I stayed with a colleague of mine as when we checked in, I was asked if we needed a room next to his, when I said no, she said she would relocate me to the same view he had as my current room would be blocked by buildings. I had a great view from the 3rd floor. Security also went out their way to bring us 3 huge boxes we had shipped so we didn't have to wait until receiving opened in the morning. Everyone at the hotel was approachable and very attentive.
They have a big starbucks in house, and a fantastic restaurant with a huge wine selection. Staff at the bar was really friendly too. Take a ride to the 47th floor and then look over the rails! It's a great view! -
Review from Annie L.
I really love the Marriott. Took the boyfriend out for a 2 night stay for his 25th birthday. He loved it. Pretty water fountain thing in the front. Very chic and upscale. Escalators everywhere. Elevators everywhere (reminded me of one of those tower rides where you ride really far up and fall down fast---without the scary falling part).
View was GREAT. We were on the 23rd floor and had a breathtaking view of the whole city.
The bed was super comfy. Fluffy pillows, warm and cozy comforter. Shower that had unlimited HOT water. AC in the room that actually went to the temperature according to the screen.
It was soooo close to everything downtown! The only con is the parking situation (pricey) but we managed to park our car in a lot that was fairly close to the hotel, and only $8 for overnight parking. Sweet.
Wonderful experience. Free wi-fi in the lobby area. Pool is both indoor and outdoor. Hot tub is awesome. None of that free continental breakfast stuff, but I didn't expect it from this high end hotel. Love! -
Review from Gina B.
When it comes to traveling, I'm a dubble-whammy (yelper and pricelineaholic). 4 friends set out to dive the GA Aquarium (they have whale sharks) for a weekend getaway. The dive is ubber expensive, so we wanted to save money on the hotel stay. We got the room for $65/night + taxes off priceline (great deal), but I was a bit disappointed at this Marriott when compared to others I've stayed at.
The lobby was tight and the bar was tucked away. I did have breakfast there one morning and it was pretty good, albeight pricey at $13! Also, don't park and drive there...they charge $28 for parking a day! Ough! Come on... is this NY?
They were doing some exterior construction while we were there and it so crudely interrupted my afternoon nap. Otherwise, the room was pretty nice, although a bit small.
Not to say it wasn't absolutely fabulous for our priceline rate. We were all very satisfied, but for the regular price... I would have been sorely disappointed.
Oh, and no free wifi in the hotel. Boo. -

Forgot to also add, the hotel connects to the Hilton (go down to the very bottom level), The Mall on Peachtree, the Marquis towers, and the Marta via bridges. This makes it super convenient when it rains/snows/cold.
Also, the concierge lounge is really nice (great views). For breakfast there is always scrambled eggs, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, and pastries. For HH/dinner, different finger foods and desserts (got to love the brownies here). Room service will come around with chocolates/truffles too...definitely helped with my midnight snack urges.1 Previous Review: Show all »

You can get some great views if you can get up to as high as the 44th floor. They have some decent bars on location too. It's a Marriott, so it's pretty predictable, but it's interior is very unique and worth checking out.

Review from Tyler G.
The Marquis is in a great location. It is close to Bobby Dodd Stadium which is a plus for this Yellow Jackets fan! The hotel was booming the weekend we were there. FAMU, Morgan State, Southernites, GA Tech fans, and The Breast Cancer Two Day folks were all at this hotel. You know what? It never felt crowded.
There is also a parking garage next to this hotel with better rates. This is very important. Not only for price but for time. Whenever you get the country folks in town, that are not used to valet and how it works, well, the line for it was around the block. That line was a good hour wait. Seriously people, invest in some decent luggage too! You don't need 10 bags for a weekend trip. Get some good luggage!
The hotel is well insulated. Once we closed the door to our room, silence! It was as if we were the only guest that weekend. Bravo!
Now, here's a funny visual story for ya. Next to the escalators, there is a glass sign. Well, we saw a woman standing in front of it. Then she started rubbing her backside up and down the sign. Literally, she had the sign between her yams. We all started laughing, I wanted to take a picture but couldn't figure out how to without being obvious. It reminded me of the online video of a bear rubbing its' backside along a tree. Too funny!
I almost forgot, this hotel is also close to MARTA. Plus, there are skywalks from the hotel to MARTA.Listed in: The Marriott and Me, HOTLANTA!

i have stayed here before. It is a good full service hotel.
That being said, $14.95 a day for internet? Really? Folks at Marriott, most of your travelers now have broadband cards on their laptops or ipads.I am one of them. I stay all over the country, and there are only a handful of hotels that still charge for internet access. And these are full service hotels as well in major metro areas. This is one of those hotels that apparently won't admit that the days of free internet are here and the days of charging $14.95 for internet are over, just like the days when people actually used hotel phones to make phone calls, prior to the cell phone.
To me, it is just an annoyance that I spent almost a grand to stay here for a few days, and I am nickeled and dimed for internet, even if I wouldn't use it anyway. -

I'm here on the 4th of 5 days for a conference and this is a solid choice for a large meeting or conference.
PROS:
-- Two blocks from MARTA.
-- Walking distance to bars and restaurants. A little further afoot but definitely walkable on a nice day is the Aquarium, World of Coke, CNN Center, the Georgia Dome, etc.
-- Comfy beds.
-- Decent view from the 12th floor on the north side of the BofA building and the mid-town skyline.
-- Great service - My boss checked out of his room today and forgot his running shoes. The front desk and loss prevention quickly found and returned the shoes to me.
-- Architecturally interesting with a great view from the atrium level.
CONS:
-- $12.95/day for WiFi. -

It is a nice hotel, has good restaurants.
Valet parking (which is the only option) is $30.00/day.
The water pressure of the shower is abysmal. Its hard to wash your hair, and ensure that it is completely rinsed because of it. The hair dryer is from the 90's and needs to be replaced.
The service is good, and the room, while small, was nice and quiet. The AC worked wonderfully, and I was on the 45th floor (platinum status), and had a great view of the city. -

I normally stay at the Marquis when I am in town for conferences.
The rooms are clean. Even though the rooms open up toward the atrium it is still very quiet in the room. The staff is very helpful and nice. The restaurant and lounge are convent. -
Review from Steve C.
Nashville, TN
Clean room and a comfortable bed. The decor was a bit 80's, but it will come back. The rugs were a bit like a Cosby sweater. The staff was generally friendly, but there were 4 things the upset me about this quick stay at the Marquis.
1. My wife got a twist tie in her burger at the restaurant. They comped the burger which was cool, but if you're paying $14 for a burger and fries, it should be prepared a little more carefully!
2. We asked for walking directions to a a theater that was 2 miles from the hotel. The concierge recommended a cab because there were some "sketchy neighborhoods" between us and the theater, so we took a cab which cost us $20. The scariest things between the hotel and the theater were the gridlock and cost of the cab. I would have let my 5 year old nephew go it alone.
3. $30 to park for 12 hours? It's not exactly Manhattan.
4. Also, its 2011 - time for free WiFi!
But the bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. -
Review from Chef W.

Please note that this review doesn't include the restaurants in the hotel. I reviewed them separately. Sear is especially good.
But--my experience with my room was mediocre at best.
Outside the rooms, sure, it's really cool. It's 47 floors and you can see straight up the middle to the roof. Check out other Yelpers' pictures. Neat.
I stayed here for a conference, and it was great for that--lots of really nice rooms, well equipped, with plenty of chairs. This was not a small conference--it's the largest of its kind.
My room and sheets/bedding were clean, and I had plenty of towels, and they gave me plenty of shampoo and conditioner.
The location was good--close to touristy things (which I didn't go to, but many colleagues did), close to good restaurants (which I DID go to--Truva, Metro Cafe Diner), close to stuff to do (Turner Field for baseball, Atlantic Station for shopping).
I did have a couple problems, though.
Like other Yelpers noted, the hotel WiFi is a whopping $12.95 a DAY. I echo another Yelper--it's 2011, people. It's time for free WiFi, or $0.99/day WiFi, or SOMETHING. You can get free WiFi somewhere in the hotel, but I never did find it, and I didn't particularly want to work on personal documents in the large and populated lobby levels.
I noticed when I walked in that my room was really humid and stuffy. Now, I know Georgia is more humid than where I come from, but this was double or triple as humid as it was outside or even in the ambient air in the hotel itself. I went into the bathroom to turn on the fan and air it out, and, aha--there is no bathroom fan. The steamy air, no matter how lukewarm your shower, has nowhere to go.
The blow dryer in the room is like using one of those little fans you take to amusement parks just for the slightest hint of a breeze. I was late for my first meeting because I didn't realize it was going to take 40 minutes to dry my hair, which is usually dry in 10 minutes or less. My fault for not bringing my own, perhaps.
I was on floor 1. If you like it quiet when you sleep, and they put you on floor 1, request something higher up. Somewhere just outside the hotel, they play rather loud piano and harp music. I believe it is the courtyard of another large building behind the Marriott. In addition to that music (Muzak?), I could hear the music from the Velocity party loft just outside my room. They stop it pretty early, but you can hear the people too if they're loud and drunk enough.
The next problem I had happened when I woke up on my second morning there, a Thursday. When my alarm went off, I sensed a wretched smell coming from my bathroom. Honestly, it was so bad my stomach turned. Having traveled to New York, used port-a-potties, and been to third-world countries, I knew immediately it was sewage I could smell. I thought the thing must have backed up into my room, the smell was so strong. I carefully checked the floor before stepping out of bed--no problem. The bathroom was fine too. It did this every morning while the conference was going on. I suspect it was the result of nearly every room in the hotel being full--as I said, this conference is the biggest of its kind--but oh, ew. And as I said, there's no bathroom fan to get the air moving. I turned the fan on high on the in-room air system and ran it throughout my stay, but mornings were still awful.
Now, to be fair, I didn't ask the hotel to move me. I am the type only to use one set of towels--one bath, one hand, one wash--for my entire stay so as not to be wasteful. If they give me two bars of soap, I open only one and move it between the sink and the shower. Asking for another room seemed wasteful, especially given how very many people were staying for the week. The bathroom fan situation can't be helped--it's just a poor design. The Muzak isn't coming from the hotel (curse you, office building next door!). -
Review from Nicole C.

Attending a conference in Atlanta and this was the host hotel, and being a Marriott member, I figured why not. Good thing too - it was GREAT!
Checked in early - no problems there. Staff was so helpful and friendly. So let's get to the hotel check list.
Location - It's right downtown in what is called the "hotel district" so plenty of restaurants and entertainment around. Marta Station is around the corner and only 30 minutes one line to the airport. That was nice. I did have to walk nearly a mile to the closest CVS, but if you take the Marta it's only one stop away. Also, about .6 miles from Georgia State if you heading to the university for anything.
Decor - Lobby and Dining areas are nice. Lots of lounge areas with WiFi so you can have informal business meetings if you like, or just hang with friends. Very upscale and modern.
Rooms - I was on the concierge level so not sure if my room was bigger than normal, but it seems like a typical Marriott room - which is above average. Well stocked bathroom and such.
Conference Space - This I was impressed by. The conference I was there for had 1400 attendees, and I never felt crowded once. As well, the evening before my conference started was DragonCon. I know in about 12 -16 hours the hotel completely transformed the expo space. Catering was really good too.
Restaurants/Food - My first night there I checked out High Velocity (which might need it's own review). The space is really nice. Large booths, back section for large groups or parties, airy feel and a large bar. High Velocity boasts itself as a sports bar - and it does well with large screen TVs in every direction you might look.
Staff - As I said before, they were great. Cleaning staff was a bit pushy because I usually have my "do not disturb" sign up. But they were just trying to make sure I didn't need anything.
Overall, I loved this place. I plan to make it my go to hotel when I need to be in Atlanta especially if I have business downtown. Then again a Marriott Marquis - no matter the city - usually does not disappoint. -
Review from C. J. R.

I really liked the staff, food, and the locality of the Hotel. Gym - is cool (like that it's 24 hrs; and the view is simply amazing.
NO CAR - If your visiting from out of town, you'll want to take the MARTA to get anywhere (train) OR if in the rainy months, you'll want to take a cab everywhere, cause things are not as friendly to the walkers as most of the surroundings are hotels and commercial. After dark, it just seems a bit...well... scary.
Pomegranate Ginger Martini - worth getting!
Lunch specials at High Velocity (sports bar -- well presented!) are all well priced and pretty tasty! -

Came here for a conference, stayed next door at the Hilton. (The Hilton, Hyatt and the Marriott are all connected through a skybridge, that also goes over to Peachtree Plaza). Very cool hotel from the inside, it's an open pyramid shaped atrium. Bar and restaurants are newly remodeled, food and drink were the standard Marriott schmeg. Overall though, this looked to be nicer than your average Marriott.

Came here for a conference and was also surprised at how nice the Marriot Marquis was! Cool stairwells and glass elevators. Good location as well.

The inside of the Marriott Marquis always reminds me of a spaceship or some other science fiction attraction. It looks really cool. The elevators are glass and go really fast. At first glance the Marriott just looks like any other hotel, but as soon as you walk in you see it's uniqueness. It just looks huge from the ground up. Looks like an alien spaceship on the inside.
We arrived around 2:30 and we got to check-in early. The Marriott was hoping busy, but we got checked in really fast.
I manged to snag a great deal on our room through Priceline ($70). I placed my own bid to get that deal. Valet parking is $30 per night. This wasn't a big deal to me. I think it's well worth some dollars not to have to worry about my car.
I like the shampoo, conditioner and soap products at Marriott they smell like ginger. The beds here are good, but I've had better beds and sheets at another Marriott in Atlanta.
Negative -- we only had two towels in our room. I don't care about all that green good for the environment business when it comes to towels I want plenty in the room. I can over look this little towel mishap because I didn't pay full price.
Good place to stay as far as location. We hopped right on Marta. We also walked to several bars. One other great feature is that you can travel inside all the way to the Marta station. Marriott connects to several other hotels through sky walks. I really like this. You don't have to walk in the heat and up all those hills to get where you want to go. -

My room was clean, but small. Perfectly fine for the price and for a couple or single. The hotel just screams of the time in the early 70's when structural concrete was di riguer (I immediately think of Detroit's Renaissance Center). Check in was plodding and slow, but everything else was fine. Elevators were fast and frequent. Even a Starbucks in the lobby. I did manage to leave a nice Brooks long sleeved running shirt and a nice pair of New Balance running shorts on hangers in my closet (Room 422, if you go... look!!) but strangely, they were not found by housekeeping. Somewhere theres a house keeper with a nice mens running ensemble. Even at that the lost and found service was excellent for checking and call backs. My bad for leaving the stuff. I would go again...

Beautiful hotel in downtown Atlanta with very convenient access to Marta. You never even have to go outside. Many of the hotels and businesses in this area are connected by bridges, so you don't even have to go outside if you don't want to. Great location, within walking distance to Olympic Park, World of Coca Cola and the Georgia Aquarium.
We stayed at the Hyatt last year and if we ever find ourselves in Atlanta again, we'd choose the Marriott over the Hyatt. They're connected by a bridge so going to the conference at the Hyatt was easy. -

New York, NY
This hotel is just lovely. The staff is very friendly and just what you would expect at a Marriott. The rooms are very nice, comfy, immaculate. Basically just what you would want at a nicer of the Marriott chains. The High Velocity restaurant is ridiculously over priced for average American food. Had buffet breakfast at Sear which was stellar and definitely worth the price (I believe $30). They have a great omelet bar and anything else you could possibly want at breakfast.
Loved my stay here. Beautiful and everything I expected. -

I was here for a Conference and was surprised at how nice the Marriott Marquis was. It's in an ok location of Atlanta, as I was told that the general area around the hotel (within a mile radius) was not the best part of town. I did see that as I went to a few restaurants around town. But with the conference I didnt have to actually leave the hotel so it was great. The hotel is large - 47 floors, with numerous concierge levels for those of you with Marriott status. I was given a room on the 40th floor and access to the concierge lounge which had hot breakfast and food at dinner time as well. You could also get waters/sodas up there to bring back to your room. The challenge with being on a high floor is that the elevator system was a bit challenging and it seemed like it was either always busy or there was only one working. At one point I had to stop at almost every floor to get to the lobby. There are 4 different sets of elevators which also makes it a bit confusing.
As for the conference facilities, there are 3 levels of rooms where you can have meetings and the conference used just about all of them. They arent too far from each other and so it adds to the convenience of staying in the hotel and also going to meetings.
The restaurants are also pretty good in the hotel with 2 places to eat (that are both pretty good), a lobby bar, and of course a starbucks in the hotel for that morning and afternoon coffee break. -

I never had such a horrible service at any Marriott hotel in my life until I went to the Marriott Marquis in Atlanta. Overall the place is beautiful there is a great pool both indoor and outdoor. Lots of room and a nice bar. The food is ok compared to other restaurants in the area for which are much better. The main issue I had with this place was how they treat their Platinum Members. 1) They could not upgrade me to a Jr. Suite for which is understandable however they could not even get me on the concierge level. 2) When I addressed myself as a Platinum Member and asked for my gift, I was not even offered one. No points. No free cheese or soda? I mean the white Platinum Member was offered something but not the Asian Platinum Member.
All and all I was very disappointed, Asian Platinum Members if you want better service however no pool, head to the Ritz-Carlton down the street. They know how to treat their high-end members with a gift too. -

This hotel is okay. It is visually very appealing. The large canyon like center is fun to look at. The elevators are pretty fast anne split up so that not everyone is trying to go on the same lift. The staff nice from what I've seen.
This would get four stars if not for the $12.95 for wifi in your room. Really? $12.95. I don't mind going downstairs for the free wifi, but I should have the option. -

Sustainability is not a priority here. Bummer.
I stayed for a week to attend a conference. The bathroom was equipped with a typical "here's how to save water" sign that indicated if you wanted a new towel, leave it on the floor, but if you plan to reuse your towel to "save water", leave it on the counter and it would not be replaced. Seems simple, right?
Every day I left towels neatly on the counter. Every day it was replaced with new. Every colleague of mine had the same experience.
No recycle bins were in the room for the free USA Today newspaper delivered to all rooms and the voluminous materials I received daily at my conference. I ended up taking all my recyclables to the lobby and had to search around for there a recycling container. Unlike.
In 2010 this lack of attention to such an important element in such a huge facility that probably creates an enormous amount of waste is pretty disappointing.
Having said that,
Hotel = Great, clean, incredible architecture inside. I would totally stay here again and recommend it to others
Service = Great, lots of staff around, no long lines
Gym = OK but pretty small for such a huge hotel (had to wait for treadmills)
Lobby "Sail" bar = Good
Sustainability efforts = lousy! Boo! Hiss!
Come on, Marriott, step it up! -

Love the location and the amenities. Close to everything and the renovation was done well. Rooms and public areas all look good and the service outlets meet all the criterias. If that doesn't work you're just a short walk to anything else you want or the MARTA station.

I really like this hotel. I'd consider it more of a "boutique" Marriott except that it's huge. Unfortunately, I didn't spend too much time here as I was either at a conference or enjoying downtown Atlanta. However, I'd not only return but will also recommend this property to others.
Back to the size. The hotel is massive. 46 floors high I believe. The elevator is a glass cylinder straight out of the Jetsons (NOT for the faint of heart). Beautiful city views from my room. Super comfy bed with awesome pillows (my personal gauge of luxurious slumber).
Proximity to downtown hot spots? Close to everything-- restaurants, nightlife and the MARTA train.
The bathroom could have/should have been larger for a hotel of this caliber but it was only me... and how much space does one really need in the bathroom? But $12.95/day for internet access? Shiza... way to rape and pillage a business traveler's expense account.
Starbuck's on site. Not a puppy love-sized version either... it's full-grown.Listed in: Like a Rolling Stone., L'hotels., My trip to Hotlanta!

This hotel was not up to par for the $500 I paid for the suite. There was something that was misleading about the button on the phone that said "At Your Service." Every time I pressed it, I got the same response: "I do apologize, Ms. SanFrannie, but unfortunately we do not provide ____________." Fill in the blank - in my case it was terry cloth robes, then a mini bar, then laundry service in the middle of the day, then tickets through the concierge for the Annie Leibovitz show at the museum, then the ability to charge my massage to my room to have it all on the single bill. It was like they trained the staff to be particularly obsequious and accommodating but refused to provided them with the tools necessary to make it happen. I have worked in the service industry and if you want to be four star, you have to learn how not to say no.
The decor was tacky, but in a Hotlanta kind of way so it was suiting I suppose. The rooms were exceptionally clean - always a plus in my book. But most of my suite was the living and dining area and the bathroom and bedroom were very cramped. I mean San Francisco, Tokyo, London, Manhattan cramped except that we were in Atlanta - big, sprawling, nothing but space, Atlanta. They should have proportioned it better because I tend to spend most of my time in the bathroom and bedroom anyway when I'm in a hotel. Maybe they get a lot of hotel guests that throw parties or something.
Room service was good. I had several meals in my room while I was there and I was impressed that the food usually showed up in less than 30 minutes as they promised. The food itself was decent, but forgettable as room service food should be. The bar downstairs, "Sails" or something, was terrible. I got a weak pour at $9 a drink and the bartender was, "so sorry but out of limes."
Overall, the hotel was nice, but I just heard too many apologies from the staff. Don't apologize, make it happen! Perhaps my expectations and review would be different had I stayed in a standard room for half the cost. For the price, I prefer the Four Seasons. You don't get the suite, but for what they lack in space, they make up in service.
Oh, and can someone explain a wet bar without a mini-bar?!?! -

**This review is for the Guest sized rooms at the Marriott Marquis.**
Look at the website for this for the Marriott Marquis and observe their guest room pictures. Then take a look at the pictures that actual Yelpers from around the country photographed during their stay at the Marriott Marquis. I thought it was fairly obvious that there is a pretty big difference in the quality of the guest room on the website and in person, and the photographs help the argument. The actual quality is no where near what they advertise.
I guess all companies do give their product that fancy makeover though. Especially when they are trying to entice you to purchase something. Like the super tasty looking burger on all of those fast food commercials. You know once you actually go to the fast food joint and look at that burger it never looks nearly as plump, juicy and fresh as it did in the commercial.
Besides the website giving their rooms a little too much credit, the Marriott company did a pretty good job with this Hotel. It is actually probably one of the nicest hotels in the Atlanta area.
I stayed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis when 311 was in town earlier this year. I hated the fact that I was staying in a hotel that resided in the same city that I lived 5 miles away from, but there was no way that I was going to be able to fit 7 people in my house without being anal the entire night about how they were leaving there damn beer cans everywhere.
The view can be very beautiful through the windows of the Marriott. But that really depends on what part of the city your room is facing. Some of the rooms give you a view of a some dirty back alley in Atlanta that could arguably depress those not accustomed to the city.
Parking was another reason I did not give this place 5 stars. In a nutshell, the parking situation really sucked. You had to either pay some goof-ball attendant 20 bucks to park your car, or park it yourself. If you choose to park the car yourself, like I always do because my mom told me never to let strangers take my car, then you have to navigate your vehicle up this one-way garage and find a parking spot that can sometimes be 10 stories up.
Overall, I liked the place, but since I live in Atlanta I doubt I will ever be staying here again.
