Although I've used Yelp for some time, I've never posted a review before today. I've been taking Portuguese classes at the institute for a little over a year now, and I feel that the previous reviewer's harsh rating is unjustified. My experience there has been very positive. The owner, who also happens to be my instructor, is a very dynamic and hard-working entrepreneur who has high expectations of his students. From my limited observation of the other instructors, the same would seem to apply to them, though if I were someone reading these reviews I would hope to see additional feedback from other students as well, so as to be able to develop a more informed opinion. As for the BBB rating, I just went to their website myself, and it shows a C-, the reason apparently being that they do not have sufficient information available on the institute to give a more positive rating, rather than anything having to do with poor performance or customer complaints. I've recently missed a class myself, because I had chosen to go out of town with some friends, and I did not get the money refunded either. However, to me this is only fair, since I did not have a prior agreement in place with the instructor that I could miss classes and get refunded. It's one thing for a small business to go back on it's word, but another to expect it to honor terms that were not in the original agreement with the consumer, with no expectation of future gain. Getting back to my personal experience though, I've found the instructors I've met to be intelligent and personable, and genuinely concerned with my language development. As a result, I feel the reputation of the institute is worth defending.
