This is a cool spot, mostly for the atmosphere and company. The beds aren't all that comfy: mine had duct tape over some springs that must have been popping through. There was a nice international crowd. The staff was super cool and friendly. There is a big balcony and humongous rocking chair, which is just cool.

The only thing I could really say positive about the place was it's location. It was an easy walk to the MARTA. And there was a lovely coffee shop just around the corner.  But it was completely gross.  Thank god we brought our own sheets.  The bathroom had some funky shower set up that would be impossible to clean, so obviously it was filthy.  Out of desperation I did take a shower but the drain was plugged.  On the second day I decided I would be cleaner if I didn't shower.  Also I got some kind of rash on my arms while I was there.  I don't really know what it was so there is a chance that I got it some where else but it started to go away as soon as I left.  We've stayed at other hostels, especially in other countries, and never seen one as dirty.

So me and some friends went to Atlanta to see a concert in the park and didn't want to drive back to Nashville that same night. We booked reservations online. It's really the way to go for the price, costing only $26 per person a night. Susie, who I think might possibly be the sweetest lady in the world, was working the front desk when we arrived and was very friendly and accommodating. The location is within walking distance of plenty of fun things to do. The front door has a code to get back inside whenever you want. The place isn't spotless and the building has character, but ultimately it is well worth the price.

I was nearly stranded in the middle of the night because I was told online that I had until 11:45PM to check in, but when I called, was told I had to be there by 11:30. In addition to not being able to check in between 12PM and 5. The limited check-in times alone are enough to reconsider staying here.

The house was so dirty that I didn't shower there, the bathrooms were poorly supplied, the beds were uncomfortable, and the house was in poor repair.

But, it's only ~$30. You get what you pay for.

The location and low cost make this place a logical choice for travelers on a tight budget. The owner knows this and has no problem canceling your reservation on a whim. If you do chose to stay at this mouse...I mean house, reserve on line and print your confirmation. Request a private room if you can.

Also, the owner leaves between 12 PM and 5 PM every day and guests are told not to open the door for anyone. This could leave you baking in the hot ATL sun; if this happens go across the street to Papi's for some good Cuban food.

Be prepared to deal with friendly homeless people and other surprises and remember to stay on the owner's good side.

Stayed here for one night while in Atlanta, and had a great time. The guy who runs it is really nice, and the atmosphere is welcoming. Its very basic, clean (mostly), and the house itself is pretty big.

There is an accessible kitchen for you to bring food and cook, and they also sell waters and cokes behind the counter. It's also conveniently within walking distance to a Walgreen's and a grocery store.

The area is centrally located to alot of the hot spots in Atlanta, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars to be found. The train is only a 5-10 min walk down the street for easy access to the airport.

I met some really cool people while there, and we had a jam session on the indoor patio all night. If on a budget, this is a great deal.

    *WARNING*
You can't check in til 5pm! No one will even be there to check you in, so don't bother trying. I made the mistake of getting there a bit early and had to wait around. But you could always keep your luggage in the back and walk around I suppose.

My first visit to Atlanta was in 2000, during my days as a penniless undergraduate. The leadership conference that I attended had put me up in a Peachtree Street hotel in downtown, but I wanted to extend my stay to enjoy the pleasures of the city. So I booked a stay at the Atlanta International Hostel, a short bus ride away from the hotel.

The Atlanta International Hostel is conveniently located in Midtown Atlanta. This part of the city bustles with trendy and affordable restaurants, chain and independent shops, performance theaters, bars and nightclubs, and condos and sleepy southern mansions. Few hostels are as nestled within an urban core as this one is.

The hostel itself is a three-story house on a main street intersection, two to three blocks away from the subway and bus stops. Though shared rooms are available, I was willing to "go broke" for a single room. There is a certain intangible energy to the place, owing largely to its tenants--Mid twenty-somethings from Europe, with a healthy mingling of homegrown granola types.

While I no longer stay at hostels during my other travels, I have booked reservations with the Atlanta International Hostel during subsequent visits to the city. In addition to its convenient location and the energy I noted above, I found the bed and shower rooms to be well-kept (as hostels go), and the "concierge" to be welcoming and helpful. This is a family run business, after all.

During my south eastern US road trip in the fall of 2001, my friend and I stayed here.

There were about 4 or 5 bunk beds in one large room for the girls. While my friend and I were here, there were only 2 other women in the room with us. The beds were wooden and not very spacious with head room on the bottom bunks. The bathroom was very quaint and clean-- for one person at a time; it was a general old-fashioned bathroom as opposed to communal (like you'd find in a college campus or some other hostels).

Overall, AIH had a cozy feel. Downstairs was always bustling with travelers from all over the world. The kitchen was clean and communal, as was the family room. This place really presented an old world charm... several board games were available, as was a TV and a side room with a parrot or two in it.

Worst hotel experience ever! The beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept on. We froze our asses off when it was 30 outside with no heat. Worst of all, the woman who owns the place is rude, mean and psychotic. She is impatient with and rude to her guests, and she is mean to her staff. She does not want bikes in her hostel, so cyclists beware. Finally, it is overpriced at nearly $30 a night. With so many couch surfing hosts in Atlanta and so many other options, don't waste your time or money on this hostel. If I could rate it with no stars I would.
