Review from Peter B.
Palo Alto, CA
Christianna is a lot stronger than her slight build would suggest. Her massage can take you right up to the fine line between having you begging to stop or begging for more. It's the best massage I have ever had, and I have had many, including some at fancy resorts where I've paid a lot more money. She runs a professional business and she approaches her massages the same way. She's great.

Review from Henry C.

The Background:
This place is a clean, no frills massage for people who are serious about getting a result. Athletic Edge is staffed by a knowledge and surprisingly strong massage therapist who clearly knows her stuff and is located in a house just next to University Ave.
The Positives:
The therapist clearly knows her business and how to target sore groups. She did an amazing good job and was able to go incredibly deep. In addition, she gave some good advice on how to prevent future problems!
The Negatives:
None. -

Incredible. I'm nearly 7 months pregnant and went in for a serious sports massage this afternoon at the behest of my chiropractor. I've been an athlete for roughly 20 years and have built up ridiculous amounts of tension in my hips, glutes, and thighs over the years. Christianna was very firm in her approach and it was just what I needed.
Bear in mind that Christianna is very experienced and well-educated in Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, and Athletic Training. Her specialty is competitive athletes so if you're looking for a legit massage--one that leaves you sore for a few days but really helps relieve tension--Athletic Edge is the place for you.
Christianna is very busy (and for good reason!) so the sooner you get on her schedule, the better. -

A Juice in the City promotion was what got me in the door to see Christianna, but her technique and skill are what will get me to come back.
She is very friendly, easy to talk to, and very strong. I told her that I had a lot of tension in my neck, back, and shoulders from my desk job and she spent a lot of time working out knots and tension and stiffness. I'm definitely sore today (1 day after the massage), but it's the good kind of sore, and my back, neck, and shoulders feel more loose and limber.
Getting a massage from her was a great way to spend part of my Sunday, and I will make a strong effort to visit her again and often! -

This review is based on their schedulilng, customer service and availability. I have not yet been to Athletic Edge and here's why:
I bought a Groupon for this place back in March and have tried 5-6 times now to book a massage for myself and my mother at the same time. I tried for her birthday, for mother's day, on random days and have tried to be very flexible with timing.
Not only are the staff slow to call back (several days, if at all), but they NEVER have two people working at the same time to provide massages! It's even hard to get a single massage unless you book months ahead of time! The whole reason I bought this was to go with my mom as a gift, and now I am not able to do this. I feel very ripped off and would never have bought this in the first place.
Hopefully someone from Athletic Edge will get this message and finally get back to me, since they don't respond to my phone messages. As it stands, I cannot see how they stay in business with such poor customer service. Sad, since I love to give good reviews and I love trying new massuses.
I would happily update this review if I can ever get an appointment.Comment from Christianna A. of Athletic Edge 7/26/2010

I had a massage at Athletic Edge this past Saturday and had a very good experience. Christianna is a skilled massage therapist, professional and friendly.
She gave me a great massage (her slightness of build belies her strength!!), and also gave me some great tips to massage the sole of my foot (I'm facing my first ever bout of plantar fasciitis....not fun) and stretch out my very tight hamstrings.
Though I live in the east bay, I will definitely keep Athletic Edge in mind for my next massage, as I frequently visit the south bay.
Location: Great location downtown Los Altos. There was plenty of parking and coffee shops nearby in case you want to rehydrate with an iced tea after your massage. -

I was smart enough to buy a Groupon for a 60-minute massage here, which is how I found out about Athletic Edge. Christianna is the best massage therapist I've ever had - she is very caring and personable, and don't let her petite stature fool you - her hands are super strong. She worked years of bad posture and stress out of my neck, and shoulders, and put the rest of my body into a state of bliss.
I will definitely be back! -

Hmmf, I wish I had read these before I scheduled. I don't know who I schedule w/ but I ended up w/ Laura. I know I scheduled a sports massage but what I got was definitely a Swedish Massage and it was the most discombobulated massage I ever received. She would do one thing to one side and then not do it to the other side. She didn't ask me my history first and even though I kept telling her "hip flexors, hamstrings, and low back" she spent 75% of the time on my shoulders. And, kept going back to them. Then, she proceeded to ask me if I knew about scoliosis, kyphosis, and lordosis, implying I basically had all 3 while tugging at my shoulders rambling on about alignment, imbalance, and body structure. She would also stop massaging while talking while I watched the clock tick away valuable minutes. When she finally got to my hip flexors there was no stretching. Only finger poking and more rambling about body structure. She had no idea about my medical history, work history, why I was the way I was, and what kind of exercises I already do. She basically implied I don't do any type of core work and was doing all of my exercises wrong. I was insulted beyond belief. Fortunately, this was a Groupon deal so I only paid $40. I might try Christina if another deal comes up but I don't recommend Laura. Unless you want to spend an hour listening to her talk.

Christianna is without a doubt the best out there. I've been to several massage places in the area (Watercourse Way, Baysix, Grace Massage, and even several masseuses at Google when I was working there) and none of them are as good as Christianna. I have been going to her since March 2010 and have had several deep tissue massages. She has excellent technique and is very responsive with what clients want. I prefer a masseuse addressing knots in my back and shoulders, and Christianna is the best at relieving these issues. She's also great with full body massages. Plus, she's super nice and thoughtful! I'm not going anywhere else.

Review from A S.
San Francisco, CA
We came down from San Francisco to use our Groupons and it was *totally* worth the trip. I've gotten many massages over the years and this was one of the best. Christianna is a great masseuse; she's tiny but powerful! She pinpointed the cause of my back issue, worked out the kinks, and gave me some advice about how to avoid it in the future. We'll definitely try to visit the new spot in Palo Alto.

Christianna is the real deal, and I'm glad that I came all the way from SF for my groupon-induced massage (also went for a hike and to a farmer's market). She is fully present, charming, and confident, whereas quite a few massage therapists are tentative and don't seem engaged in what they are doing. She is young and petite, but quite strong, and intuits well the pressure points that will induce healing. I admire that she is so committed to her field, which extends beyond massage, for she has a master's in sports physiology from Vanderbilt. Her regular rates are high, but there are new-customer specials, and she is offering an effective form of labor-intensive therapy. Note: she rents space from an Aveda franchise store, so don't be too perplexed when you see all the Aveda products out front.

Review from Marissa H.
Palo Alto, CA
I bought a groupon for Athletic Edge and went in yesterday for a massage. Christianna is wonderful! She is not only very personable, but very intuitive in terms of massage. I have tried a variety of masseuses, and I find that Christianna is very good at feeling out places you are tense. I like pretty firm pressure, and she was able to work with that without me telling her.

I've been to many different spas and my experience at Athletic Edge was one of the best. Christianna was outstanding! She knew just how much pressure to apply to loosen up the knots in my back but still keep the massage relaxing and enjoyable.

Came here with my girlfriend for a back-to-back massage appointment with Christianna. I have one word to describe the massage she delivers: Amazing! She is incredibly professional and is very accommodating. I came after a 10 mile morning bike ride, and felt great after the massage. Thanks again Christianna!
