    I love this place!

A month ago, I sprained my ankle while I was running in Golden Gate Park (hit a dip in the path). After a trip to my GP, an orthopedic surgeon, and the ER, I was referred to Athercare. I live in SF, but my parents live in Castro Valley and I was staying with them while I was incapacitated, so I was referred to this location. Even though I was good to go back to my apartment in the city a week after my first appointment, I was so happy with my PT, that I decided to stick it out and just make the commute out whenever I had an appointment.

I had six pre-approved sessions and went there twice a week. I was able to get my preferable morning time slot most of the time, although I did have to be flexible between my 8am and 8:30am appointments. For my second appointment, I had to meet with a different PT, but that was fine. It is unfortunate if you don't have a flexible work schedule because they keep regular M-F, 8-5 hours. Luckily, my manager is understanding.

My regular physical therapist, Rigo, was awesome. He seriously made PT something to look forward to! Sure, PT isn't necessarily as painful for a sprained ankle as it is for other, more serious injuries, but it is kind of an inconvenience when it disrupts your normal schedule and you actually have to push yourself to get better. Anyways, he evaluated me during my first visit and gave me stretches and exercises to practice at home. During my other visits, he kept showing me new exercises and tested out the limits of my ankle. Through out it all, he answered all my questions and acknowledged all my concerns.

The massages and ice/compression treatments were also a nice treat (seriously helped during those earlier stages when my swelling was annoying)!

The rest of the staff is really friendly and they all seem like they enjoy working and hanging out together. The front desk can get kind of crazy with phone calls and dealing with other patients, but they're nice when answering questions, double-checking appointments, and writing receipts for your co-pay.

Today was bittersweet because I'm so glad my ankle is almost back to normal (going to try running later this week), but I'm going to miss that place! It was a nice way to start my morning when I had a PT appointment scheduled. If you have to go here, ask for Rigo! He makes rehab fun. Seriously wouldn't mind hanging out with that guy even if I wasn't injured!

    THANKS AGAIN!

So far, I'm pretty satisfied with Athercare. I've been coming here for a repetitive stress injury I got on my left shoulder at work. The people are all very friendly and everyone helps everyone else out when they need a hand. There is a tv that always has some kind of sports game or program playing. The owner has an adorable puppy, Pooky, who runs around the gym and plays with everyone. I'm a huge dog-lover, so Pooky only adds to how much I like this place.

My physical therapist, Jenn, is awesome and super friendly. I have high hopes that my shoulder will be fully rehabilitated after I've completed my physical therapy.

I have been going to Don Chu for 15+ years. In my younger years, he was excellent with helping improve sport performance and speed. He was the head of PT at Stanford for 2 years. He knows his stuff!! He works with a number of professional athletes including synchro swim, tennis, boxing, football, etc. If you want to improve your game, go to Don Chu.
He is also excellent at putting you back together when you get hurt. He works with a number of athletes & non athletes in rehabing injuries. Most recently, he has done wonders in improving my knee problems. He travels all over the world for speaking engagements and has been to a number of olympics. I highly recommend that you visit him if you have an injury or are an athlete that wants to take it to the next level.

I am a new customer here getting shoulder rehab. I'm very impressed with the entire staff. My shoulder is improving remarkably. I was told by a friend that this is one of the best places in the bay area, she knows she is a athletic director at a local collage. I'm glad to be coming here.

Don is The Man!  He's not only for top athletes but for every day people with problems which no one else can solve.  I have yet had a problem which Don has not been able to find a solution.  Don has Healing Hands!  For athletes he has a top Training facility.  Highly, Highly recommend him. A very mellow dude.
