my craving for hummus and yelp brought us to this little gem in HB. i've been to this plaza before but never noticed this restaurant (or any of the neighboring ones) because it's so hidden from the main street. (TGFY: Thank God For Yelp)

we came on a friday evening and of all the shops in the plaza, this one was poppin'. it's a semi fast food/casual sit down place, you order at the counter, grab a seat and they will bring your order up to you.  they serve wine and greek beer as well. so naturally i had to try their greek beer, hillas. it was DELICIOUS! my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach on this evening because not only did i order an entree: the gyro meat and steak skewer combo which comes with pasta, salad and pita, i also ordered a hummus appetizer to share with him (to satisfy my hummus craving). the giant hummus appetizer comes with triangular slices of pita and by the time i got my entree, i was already getting full. everything on my plate was delicious, including the steak, which i usually dont care for. he had the same combo except with chicken instead of steak. our total bill including the two beers and minus the 10% yelp check in discount came out to $28.

definitely a great spot for some greek food and beer!

Athens is pretty good for greek food.

Sometimes the kaboobs are over cooked, but it's 50/50 on that happening.  When they're not it's one of the better kaboobs.

The salad is always fresh & the orzo side is good.

We've had it catered in for company luncheons.

I think all questions can be answered with the, Five Ws (and one H):

    WHO:
A co-worker told me about this place, she said it was excellent!

    WHAT:
I ordered the Salmon Filet Pita: Marinated farm fresh salmon filet cooked over open flame and stuffed in a pita with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and dressing on the side (because my order was to-go). It was very filling and excellent! My co-worker was right about this place (she visited the Seal Beach Location, I have to try that location next time I'm down there)

    WHERE:
7101 Yorktown Ave Huntington Beach, CA 92648

    WHEN:
I arrived at this location last night about 9:30 p.m. It was inviting, they had their doors wide open.

    WHY:
Spring time means: new, fresh, & vibrant. In commemoration to this new season, I am choosing to visit new restaurants I have not visited in the past. I want a fresh perspective on places I have "always wanted" to try. I am open to exploring different restaurants that inspire vibrancy through their food. This is the second restaurant I have visit since the mark of Spring. ***I gave this place Four Stars, because I did not get a napkin in my to-go order. That was quite disappointing to not have something to wipe the delicious juices from my hands & mouth. If I had received a napkin, my rating would have been the ultimate 5-Star rating***

    HOW:  $6.94 with tax.
                 Both location has online ordering.

Came here on a weekend with family and was actually impressed. I was expecting something along the lines of Daphne's but this was better. I ordered a chicken kebab plate and it was a very generous portion. Their hummus and pita were just alright but the main plates made up for it. I guess this is considered fast food greek because you order at the register and they call your number to pick it up. This is definitely not a fancy, sit-down place. For what it is, it's good. The staff aren't friendly nor are they rude. The place was pretty busy when we went but our food came out quick which I always appreciate. If you're looking for something cheap and good, this is your place.

Oh my gosh I friggin love Athen's West. You would never think so but this is some of the best Greek food ever, especially since is a quick little "fast food" looking place. I crave this place constantly and I would eat here 3-4 times a week if I could.

    So here goes...this list...

    1. Lamp Chop Platter... UHMAZING. The lamp is cooked almost perfect(Im a rare sorta gal.) It's tender, has tons of flavor and comes with a side salad, orzo and pita. YUM!

    2. Zesty Chicken Salad...I get this a lot. The Zesty Feta is my favorite!!!

    3. Salmon Platter... same sides #1 and again, amazing flavor.

My boyfriend orders the same thing every time, the Kabob Platter and loves it. The food is fresh and so tasty! It's definitely our go to place.

My food was good and came out in like 10min.. but my friends food took 20 for a chicken salad, french fries, and 2 chicken skewers. then I asked if that was there food on the counter just sitting there and they said no, but guess what it was.. I guess other people who ordered after my friends were more important.

I am always surprised by how good this places is.  I always expect it to be just like Daphne's, but it is far better.  I got the chicken pita sandwich with salad and fries.  The chicken is always amazing, and I love their Greek salad.  It is such a great value, too.  On other visits I have had the chicken kabob plate and also really loved that.

The menu also includes lamb kabobs, Greek desserts and Greek beer. A great place for lunch or a quick dinner.  I am looking forward to my next visit.

My experience here with the service wasn't all that hot. First they lost my phone order so we had to reorder at the restaurant which stinks because like usual when placing a phone order, at least for us, it means you're limited on time. They also got the second order wrong although they charged me correctly by what I originally ordered. Of course.

That being said I did love the zesty chicken gyro. It was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. The meat was tender and that alone was pretty filling. The best part though was the toasty pita appetizer and the hummus with a kick. I love the spicy flavoring. Even with the mistake in the order it's better than Daphne's so I'll definitely be back again. This time probably won't bother with phonin it in though.

We were disappointed by the good reviews here.  First, kudos for noting clearly on the menu that the orzo contains chicken broth.  But that means it's not vegetarian, so why is it included with the vegetarian meals?  And why was the cashier caught off guard when I asked if, on the veggie plate, I could substitute anything else at all for it?  He sort of stammered that I could have extra salad, and didn't give me any other choices, so I went with that.

There are only fountain drinks here, no iced tea, and the paper cups are next to the fountain.  The cashier didn't tell us that, so we hung around for a few minutes waiting for him to give us cups--I thought that was the norm at most fast-food style places.  Finally we found them ourselves.

The veggie plate was a huge amount of food.  Portions are definitely large here.  Unfortunately, it was all mediocre.  They seem to be going for quantity over quality.  According to the menu, my meal was also supposed to have come with hummus, but they didn't give me any.  While I certainly didn't need the extra food, I would have liked to have tried it, and it was supposed to be included.  My husband declared his gyro edible, but dry and flavorless.

This place is better than Daphne's, but I don't like Daphne's.

I used to frequent this place when I was in high school. At least once a week I'd go here after school to get food while waiting for my parents to pick me up.

Management and service is amazing. The owner is very nice; he lets me have a tab if I ever forget to bring money. I love love love the Orzo pasta! Every time I'm here I get the kabob platter (steak) with fries instead of the salad. Yummm! :)

My boyfriend wanted to eat here on our most recent trip to Huntington Beach and I was resisting as much as I could - the last place I wanted to eat was another Daphne's spin off.

For Greek "fast food," this place was A-ok! I liked their vegetarian options - although I had to order french fries to be on my veggie gyro like they do it in Greece. My dude had the regular gyro and thought it was delicious.

MUCH BETTER than any other place's (Daphne's *cough*cough*) attempt at greek-stye fast good.

It's been a while since I've eaten here. Roomie, BF and I were starving and trying to figure out what was quick, affordable and tasty. We hopped on the computer (Yelp OF COURSE!) and found out you could order on line and pick up. Yessssssss....

The Gyro Take Home Pack jumped right out at us. Described as "Mounds of Meat" with a Greek salad, four pitas, two Orzo pastas and tzatziki sauce for $34.80. Mounds of Meat? Why, Yes...thank you! We added two extra pitas at $1 each and two orders of Feta Fries at $4.92 each, which I can't seem to live without. The website prediction? Our order would be ready to pick up in 15 minutes, despite the 30 minute warning on the menu for Take Home Pack prep....very nice....

When Roomie and BF returned, the living room table was literally COVERED with food containers. There was SO much food it was amazing. The gyro meat was warm, juicy and flavored perfectly. The tzatziki sauce was cool and creamy. For some reason I love the tzatziki here. Pita were piled high in warm, soft little triangular towers and the orzo was cooked perfectly. The Greek salad was full of onions, peppers, olives and feta and the Feta Fries? Amazing as always. After stuffing ourselves silly, there were still leftovers (that were promptly consumed the next morning). This was a great deal!

My only real complaint? While ordering online, I went through the whole process, only to find out this location doesn't allow you to pay online....WTF? That's kind of silly, but OK. But the worst part? Roomie freaked when I told him you were required to enter your name, email, birthday, phone number, address, and all kinds of other information just to simply place your order on line. A phone number and email I get, so they can confirm your order, but all that other stuff? Unreasonable. Roomie made sure to give the guy shit about it when he picked up the food. The guy just shrugged and apologized. I'm sure they aren't his rules.

Overall, love the food here at Athens and the Take Home Packs are totally worth it if you have a hungry crowd to feed or just want leftover gyro the next morning.

Like there is a tip jar where you placed the order and then there is a tip section if you pay by card. Idk...it seems weird for me to tip somebody before they even made my food or provided any service. And tipping somebody for JUST taking me order...is hmm...absurd?

The location is clean and open so you can see them cooking your food. Fresh ingredients. Great prices. Plus the staff is always so friendly!

Other great food aspects: pita bread is always delicious and WARM! Tzatziki sauce is amazing, and hummus is great as well. Definitely add this place to your list of regular lunch joints because it's amazing!

TASTY is the word. Located in the Sea Cliff village in HB, I have only been here twice so far and look forward to trying their platters. The hummus and pita appetizer is satisfying, as is the Gyro salad. The meat, the feta, the tomatoes, the lettuce, the dip...makes for a perfect combination that my mouth truly enjoys.

How is this for customer service...... My wife uses a coupon and orders 4 dinners.  When the food is ready, she notices that only 3 dinners are prepared.  The dude behind the counter rings her up for another meal but does not give the same discount.  He says she already used the coupon and this is a new transaction.  OK, pal.....don't mess with my wife.  She can turn on you in an instant.  She asks to speak to the manager.  Dude calls him on the phone and he refuses to change the bill.

    20% off an $8.00 bill = $1.60.

For $1.60 they have lost a loyal customer for life.

My money will be spent at Daphne's.

I have a difficult time with greek food.  I was introduced to the cuisine as a whole, oddly enough, after a day at sea.  Being a land-lubber, I didn't do too well with eating post-voyage.  I was also about ten, and preferred mcnuggets and fries to anything with such pseudo-exotic monikers.  Years later, I would be re-introduced;  Still skeptical, I tried hummus and gyro, and I was hooked.  Albiet distanced from traditional greek food, the fare was tasty and disassociated with my first seasick voyage.

Recently, I "sampled" Athens West (quirky name, cuz it's west) in an empty buffet line, and was thoroughly impressed.  The hummus was spicy, plainitively bitter, yet garlicy "enough".  Both chicken and steak skewers were fabulously juicy and light, (which is great considering the sterno bath) and the lamb gyro was easily palatable and well-seasoned.  The greek salad served its purpose, but the olives (which are a pivotal part of any greek dish) were a tad briny.

I appreciate this place because it's part of a long line of establishments that continually re-define my grade school reared palate.  umm, thanks greek food for not being seafood...anymore.

Daphne's take a hike, you stink!

Athens West is some grub!  I've never had a bad meal here and the orzo is unbelievable.  Daphne's gives you some nasty yellow rice which tastes like yellow snow but AW gives you this Orzo that must be cooked in some high quality olive oil because it tastes so good and "buttery."  The pita is good as well.

I usually get some skewers while my wife prefers the gyros and we both are constantly pleased with our meals.  You pay a buck or two more than at Daphne's but its worth it.  We always highly recommend this place to all of our friends.

I love Athen's West...not only are they cheaper than Daphne's, but the food is better. Also, the closest Daphne's is in Bella Terra...and that alone makes me prefer Athen's West.

The food is always fresh and fast, and the meat is nice and juicy [unlike Daphne's]. One thing I really love is the Orzo...I like it a lot better than rice...I just throw some of the Feta and a little bit of Greek Dressing in it and its even more yummy. I love their french fries too [try the Feta Fries...unexpectedly delicious]. Aside from the normal stuff, they have a good selection of other meats like Scallops, Calamari and Lamb Chops.

Aside from the food, there is a nice little seating area outside [and seats inside] in case you want to eat there.

Overall, its my favorite 'fast food greek' restaurant.

For Greek food on the go this is the place.

Haven't had anything we haven't liked. The salads are great! Whatever you get make sure you get the Zesty Feta. The lunch combo is ideal if you want the Gyro or Chicken sandwich. Comes with some salad and fries. But you can get all salad if you ask.

The Feta Greek fries are to die for! Squeeze a little lemon on them and plan on not sharing!

Wanna have your Greekiness at home? They have a "Deli" section. Means you can order the Feta, Meat or dressing in bulk.

SOOOOOOOOO TASTY!!! I had eaten at Daphne's Greek Cafe prior to my coming to this restaurant and I have to say that the portion sizes here are larger for a cheaper price.  In addition, the food is excellent; the orzo pasta is EPIC and my kabob's were cooked perfectly.  There was a shortage on the pasta, but it didn't bother me very much.  To top it off, I came here with one of their advertised coupons and it was defiantly worth the price.  And I love how you can actually SEE with your EYES the gyro's being made.

But, I do think Athens West should expand a bit, and when I say that I mean size.  The dining area was a bit small along with the restroom.

Athens West delivers high quality Greek cuisine at a fair price. You order the chicken kabob at Daphne's and good luck staying full for more than 5 minutes. The portions at Athens West are considerably bigger, and apart from the overall better flavors, the meat is definitely of a high quality.

Warm fresh pita bread, or if you're in the mood, Greek fries are both great sides, but what I REALLY love is the Orzo. I can't believe people have been complaining about the "rice" and how it didn't look or taste right. Well, it's not rice, it's orzo and I'm addicted to theirs. So tasty!

The owner is a nice guy, I've been coming here for awhile and he's really loosened up, he's just quiet. The staff has always been friendly with me as well, so I'm not sure what happened with other reviewers.

I just had to register and write a review based on the bogus reviews I'm seeing for Athens West.

First of all, I like to think I have a pretty good grasp of what Greek food should taste like since I've spent a couple weeks in Greece eating not only the street food, but also experiencing the fine dining.

Athens West provides certifiable Greek cafe style food.  Sure it's nothing to write home about, but it is solid and reliably good.  While I find the skewer based dishes a bit overcooked (some may like it with extra grill marks) I'll say the gyro meat doesn't disappoint.

What I really like about Athens West is that it's healthy, delicious, and convenient.

My favorite dish is the Gyro salad, and if I'm feeling like a total pig I'll go for the lamb-o-rama which is basically a gyro sandwich stuffed with french fries which is surprisingly authentic.

Lastly, there was someone who claimed the rice was overcooked.  EXCUSE ME, that's ORZO which is pasta and not rice.

After reading the positive Yelp reviews I decided to go give this place a try, and I was very pleasantly surprised.

My girlfriend and I had the veggie platter and the falafel platter with baklava for dessert.

The falafels were crispy and flavorful.  The hummus was smooth and had a good citrus zing to it.  The salad was good (but it's hard to mess up Greek salad).  The flaky spinach/feta pastry was also excellent.

My favorite item was the spicy "zesty feta" dip which has a wonderful heat to it.  Any cheese that makes me sweat is worth it!

Finally, the baklava was light and fresh, with excellent texture and flavors.

Finally, they even serve Greek wine and beer, if you feel like trying one of those, which is a nice touch.

Thanks for a great experience, I'll be back!

    I went there w/ a friend. Q-bert T.
i was told by her, oh there is a great gyro place in huntington beach from yelp. so i went along with her all the way down to huntington beach from garden grove(about 30 min drive). anyways we were first greeted by the cashier(the way he dressed, i think he was either a manager or the owner).  man, he doesn't seem to have patience.  he was forcing us to order our food.. geezz anyways, we waited about 15 mins for our food. steak skewer was dry as hell.  chicken was dry too but edible.  they gave very small portion of gyro meat..   anyways, i think it wasn't worth the drive all the way down to hungtington beach.. i would rather go to daphine's cafe.. closer & cheap.. oh btw, their rice looked like maggots.. i just couldn't eat the rice...
