The gyro was good. Very liberal on the meat and I like how the tzatziki sauce is on the side. The pita bread was browned on the outside but soft on the inside. Service was fast, ~5-10 minutes from the time I ordered to the time the food arrived. The price is right. What more could I ask for?
I will be back before I leave Dubuque. -

Ate here three times while in town. Great meals, cooked while I waited. Friendly service & pleasant atmosphere. I love the place.

My go-to are the salads, gyros, and the rice pudding. Genuinely nice people giving attentive service. Just started serving omelets on Sat. & Sun. opening at 10am. 563-582-9271

Best gyros in Dubuque! The pasta salad is magnificent.

Not bad. I had a Greek salad with gyro meat, called the Aegean salad. The meat and pita were very warm. Both were good, nothing special. The salad had all the necessary ingredients, the dressing, a little lite.
Service was good. If I lived around here, I'd hit this place a couple times a year. It's pretty good.Listed in: Dubuque, IA

The Athenian Grill is amazing!
I found this place after going to an outdoor summer festival a long time ago - they had a little stand selling gyros & veggie pitas, so I tried one.
I've been hooked ever since...
Their veggie pita is my favorite. It's filled with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, feta, & an awesome Greek dressing/seasoning. Their fries are delicious as well - they're kinda skinny & have the perfect amount of salt on them. Oh, & did I mention their spanakopita? Mmmmm...
Also, the service is great - really helpful & friendly - & the prices aren't even remotely objectionable.
Overall, comfy atmosphere + great food = the best "casual" restaurant in Dubuque. -

I've only been in Dubuque for a week, but I've already eaten lunch here twice and plan to go again today.
My first visit I got a delicious pasta salad that was so big I was able to save it for lunch the next day. Most recently I got a kabob sandwich, which is chunks of marinated roasted chicken on a pita with the usual condiments. The chicken was dry, but after I coated in tzatziki it became more than palatable.
I'm deducting a point because although the food is very Greek-flavored, its all a variation on kabobs, gyro meat, spinach, cheese, olives, tomatoes, onions, with tzatziki. Not much in the way of variety, but what they do serve is delicious, especially the pita. -

Athenian Grill has good Greek food (gyros, souvlaki, etc.) but when you see the crowd on a Sunday morning, you'll understand that it is breakfast that drives the masses mad: omelets, waffles, skillets crammed with meat and carbs, eggs benedict; you can't go wrong here.

Great place for Greek food!
Don't come expecting a formal dining Greek establishment and you will be just fine with the experience. The ambience reminded me of a Greek version of a quintessential American local cafe where people go to get coffee, pie, hamburgers, etc.
The place was semi-loud. Seemed to be frequented by the college crowd. I noticed a lot of take-out customers during our visit. That's all the negative stuff (and it really isn't negative; it's just an observation).
My wife and I sampled several Greek dishes during our first visit, and they were all tasty. The toasted pita bread with hummus was excellent as was the baklava. The person taking the order was polite in answering my several questions related to items on the menu. Nothing bad here. I would go again if I were in town. -

The food was good. I had a gyro, fries, and soup and it was good. Great service and very helpful.

My friends and I love this place. The food is great, the decor is quaint, and the employees are always really nice. The pitas are soft and warm and the ingredients are always perfectly seasoned and plentiful. Bonus--waffle fries! Waffle fries are hard to find anymore so it's great that Athenian Grill still lets me indulge in a favorite greasy pleasure. They have a lot of options and their pasta salad side is great. This is a perfect lunch spot in Dubuque.

Dubuque could use more friendly, locally-grown ethnic restaurants like the Athenian Grill. It's a great alternative to the endless burger and fast food joints in town. The place is small, casual and friendly. I always order the euros, which are delicious. Be sure to subsitute the pasta salad for the fries. Expect crowds at lunchtime.

Athenian Grill is a great place to eat, and we are so happy that is now open again! The only problem I have with it is that there is no nutritional guide for the food, so there is no way to know how many cal. or fat grams or points... whatever your preference is... no numbers to tell you what you should eat... Other than that - Great Food - and great professional staff. Nice job!
