What a terrrific little gem this place is in the middle of Greek Town in downtown Detroit.
The staff was friendly and very informative. It took next to no time for them to get to know me by name and offer up suggestions for stuff to do in the area. I was there for NAIAS week so they were able to steer me to things that wouldn't be so crowded.
The free shuttle service within 5 miles of the hotel is an awesome perk., especially when one is without a car while staying there like I was. That 5 miles will get you right to the Motown Museum and back in no time. Very friendly driver.
I was impressed with the rooms. Nicely appointed and certainly a value for the money. I liked the big screen TV, even though one of the remotes didn't work. They are well insulated from noise from the outside. The beds were among the best I've ever had in a hotel, no back ache in the morning is a good thing!
I do have a few niggles about the place. They were enough to keep me from giving it a 5 star rating. The clock radio wouldn't set, but the friendly staff did do a prompt wake up call as I had requested. The remote for the TV in the bedroom was barely functioning and one had to manually turn on/off the TV. My biggest peeve is when in a boutique hotel as nice as this one, why do they insist on using single ply toilet paper? The stuff is rough and falls apart during useage which is pure grossness.
I wasn't on the side of the hotel facing the strip club so noise was not an issue for me. I do have friends who were staying same time as I who did note that there was some noise they would hear from the club as well as drunks coming out of the casino at night. -

Stayed here to attend the Green Bay/Detroit Thanksgiving Day game, and I couldn't find much that wasn't to my liking. All of the staff members were exceedingly friendly and efficient, and the room was quite nice. It's located in a prime location to some great attractions downtown.
I did notice the music from the strip club late in the night, but it didn't bother me that much (I can sleep through most anything). -

My husband and I stayed here last night and were underwhelmed. I'm a very detail orientated person and noticed a lot of little flaws. The walls in the hallways had water damage and/or cheap plaster and repair work. The caulking in the bathroom was done very poorly. The grout between the tiles was no existent in some places. The railings in the hallway on the 9th floor no less were wobbly. Our check-in seems to take forever. There was a crack in the glass door to our closet. There was a stain in the carpet... I could go on.
A much more obvious blunder was the paper thin walls. We could hear garbage trucks outside at 6am and could hear hotel doors slamming shut and people talking in the halls all night.
A few good notes: the shuttle service is free and fast (used it to go to dinner), the location is good and the valet service was efficient.
Next time we decide to stay overnight downtown we'll be staying at the Greektown hotel or splurge at the Westin Book Cadillac.
Also, I'm really shocked that this hotel is a four-diamond AAA rated hotel. I've stayed at true four-diamond hotels before and this hotel doesn't even compare to them. -

The reviewers who gave this hotel 3 stars or fewer have an accurate assessment of the hotel environment. Let me outline the positives and negatives about the hotel.
Negatives:
1. The noise. THE NOISE. This is not a hotel where someone can experience a romantic getaway or experience calm surroundings. Our room was positioned on Lafayette Street which is an incredibly noisy area of the hotel. There is a adult entertainment bar on Lafayette Street on the second floor that plays very loud music into the wee hours of the night. It is constant and throbbing. There is no escape.
In addition to the outside noise, I could not escape the noise from fellow guests. It seemed to me that most of the people I encountered in the halls were interested in this hotel because they wanted suites in which to party. On either side of us we had very large groups of people in rooms and the people were screaming and squealing throughout the night. I was awakened in the middle of the night by one room of young women who were really loud.
In my opinion, the noise issue is so bad that the hotel is unsuitable.
2. While the decor and furniture has been updated, there is obvious wear and tear on the building itself. There are streak marks on the walls, the grout, tile, wall paint and hot tub fixtures look worn. In the size suite we stayed in, the hot tub was in the central living area, and not enclosed in the bathroom, which seems like an odd structural choice and definitely lacks privacy if those staying do not all want to go in the hot tub together.
3. The staff were all polite, but except for one person, were not friendly at all. I have stayed in all kinds of hotels from Motel 6s to Westins in Chicago, and at almost all of these places, the staff, upon checking out, ask me if I enjoyed my stay. Not here. The room service person was rumpled and unkempt. It is true (like others have noted) that the ice machines are not fully stocked. I had to go to multiple floors to attempt to get ice.
4. Although there is room service (from the restaurant in the same building), there isn't a gift shop, and the convenience store near the restaurant is opened limited hours.
5. The wifi is poor. My phone and computer kept dropping the connection and I had to login frequently. In addition, the wifi connection was slow. I turned off wifi on my phone and used my 3G data plan because it was quicker for me to do so for anything more data intensive than web surfing. So the wifi along with the gift shop aren't deal breakers, but they just add to the negative experiences.
Positives:
1. I did like the updated furniture and bed linens
2. The valet service was prompt so we could get the heck out of there
Given the amount of money this hotel costs, I think there likely are other, more competitive options in Downtown Detroit that would end up being quieter and having better, more friendly staff. If I go to downtown Detroit again, I will not stay here. -

I have had the pleasure of staying at a few hotels in Detroit... MotorCity Casino being a really good hotel, surrounded by a wasteland of pretty much everything. You are kind of stuck in the hotel/casino... the Atheneum was suggested to me by a coworker and I went. The one ting that stood out for me was the proximity of the BOUZOUKI strip club to the really contemporary hotel. Walking in you are greeted by two large scale Greek Gods on the walls.
The rooms were really nice, they actually had stairs down to the bedroom. The one thing that bothered me though was the bathtub, it was huge, but stepping into the tub took a bit of effort. The half shower curtain from the 70's was cool.
I gave it a 5 for the fact that I was not stuck in the hotel. I got to experience the only civilized area in Detroit, being Greektown. if the city of Detroit were more like this two and half block section of city. I may enjoy it more. Food was excellent in almost every place I went. The people did not look like they were going to rob me at every moment. There were sounds of laughter, talking, no gun fire, nobody screaming that they just got stabbed. It was nice.
I will stay here again when I go back, hopefully not for another couple of years.... -

3.5 stars rounded up.
Stayed 4 nights. I love the huge suites. Not that I use a living room on business trips but I was thoroughly impressed. The king sized bed was just how I like it, king sized :) with lots of layers of blankets and a thick comforter (down-like) not that weird polyester crap that you get at most joints. The tub was also huge, didn't get the jets but always good to be able to take a bath here and there and stretch out.
Friendly lady when we checked in at near 3am and speedy and kind valets. But man, Detroit parking is still $20 a night? That's comparable to other bigger cities, doesn't make sense to me since property value is so low, is this accounting for "security"? Perhaps.... Bellhops are also friendly but I guess everyone is working for a tip, I handed out plenty of that.
Really the sleep was the best part which is hard to come by on business trips. The hotel is located in a great part of town, and on the weekend, it was even bustling.
They included breakfast, which was pretty subpar, so there is a half a point docked for that. I would just rather not have it included at all than be disappointed.
All in all, a hotel I would have no reservations returning to, and one I could even recommend to others. -

The annual USMC Birthday Ball was held here this year, so we got to see the level of service for a big event, as well as regular service.
Check-in (and valet parking) was quick and efficient, and when I asked if there were refrigerators in the rooms and was told no, but they could have one sent up...she was already dialing the phone to order one before I could stop her to say we didn't really need one. That's service.
The rooms were really quite nice. Though I'm not sure exactly what level room we had (since it was an event deal, we got what we got for a certain price with no choice), there was a decent-sized living room with a couch (though very uncomfortable), a side chair, a coffee table, a flat panel TV, and the mini-bar in an entertainment console. Through the door, there was a tiny hallway with a mirrored closet on one side and the bathroom on the other. The bathroom was very decent sized, with a deep tub (though no jets) and a well-lit counter.
Unfortunately, our toilet wouldn't flush, so we had to call the front desk. The maintenance guy was there within five minutes and had it fixed within another five (at most). Impressive.
I wanted a snack before the events started, and the sushi sounded good (a bit expensive but not super crazy) but we only had an hour before we had to leave, so I called to first ask how long it would take, and asked if an hour was enough time. The guy laughed and said it would be less than half an hour. Cool. It was there in TEN MINUTES. Impressive. The sushi itself wasn't anything to write home about. *Note that gratuity is automatically added. I forgot to tell hubby, so when he signed for it, he tipped. EEK. So we had extra-expensive sushi on accident.
I went to get ice and the one on our floor was out of order. I tried another floor and that one had no sign but wasn't working, so I stopped a housekeeper who was walking by to let her know, and by the time I walked away, I heard her calling it in. Impressive.
So, what wasn't as impressive?
1) The steps down to get to the sleeping area. Cool idea, but overall I'd rather not have them. Both of us tripped on them at one time or another (and we hadn't even had a drink!).
2) The glass blocks as the bathroom wall. Again, cool idea, but another fail in my opinion--if you turn on either bathroom light in the middle of the night it lights up the entire sleeping area.
3) The A/C was crappy and loud. It was set to 65 when we walked in but it didn't feel like any 65 I know. We turned it down to 62 to try and get some cool air going....and came back to room after 3 hours...still not cool. I called the front desk and long story short they said their rooms don't get cool like that. Huh? Their solution was to shut the door between the two rooms to try and keep the cool air in the bedroom area. Not a great solution as far as I was concerned. Anyway, we like it cool to sleep so left it on...set at 65 and the damn thing was SO noisy that it woke me up every 10-15 minutes all night as it cycled on. In other words, a nightmare.
4) The walls are thin! I heard a bunch of marines coming down the hall at 3am and heard someone's cell phone alarm (in the neighboring room) at 5am.
5) The bed was mostly comfortable and the pillows were okay but neither was anything to write home about.
Needless to say I didn't sleep much that night.
As far as the convention/event aspect, everything was spot on. The bartenders were great and remembered your drink of choice (a feat, with 150 people in attendance), the servers were efficient and very nice, the food was actually tasty, and additional requests were handled well.
Checkout and valet went smoothly, and when we were asked about our stay, I commented on the noisy A/C and saw her write a note about it.
So, I'm divided on this review, and must use actual math.
1) Employees (very nice) *****
2) Service (quick and efficient) *****
3) Event "stuff" ****
4) Hotel room **
5) Room service sushi **
18 stars / 5 categories is 3.5, rounded down to 3 because I only got maybe an hour of sleep the whole night.Listed in: Troy Area Ventures

This is a classy hotel. It's NOT in a bad neighborhood. Sure, it's surrounded by Bouzouki's Strip Club and the Greektown Casino. However, if you are willing and able to travel more than one block, there are other things to do in Downtown Detroit besides gambling and strip shows. There are a ton of great restaurants, skyscrapers, etc. within a 10 minute walk.
The bigger rooms are nicely priced for a "splurge". There are some real deals if you book early online or call and haggle with them. This is one instance where fools who are scared of Detroit provide affordable fun for the rest of us.
Both rooms I've had stayed at here (one small, one slightly larger) were fantastic. They small one was indeed small, but very well appointed. The larger one had a two really posh areas to it. Even the smaller of the two suites we stayed in had a fantastic little step-down bedroom area separate from the "living area". The views were lovely. The beds were soft. The bathrooms are some of the best parts--nice marble, jetted tubs, etc.
Also, I saw Detroit Tigers Ramon Santiago and Timo Perez there in 2007, so good for me. -

I have had better service at MOTEL 6....lol They were out of ICE all night (we got there at 5:00pm), housekeeping was closed also?? so no extra nothing!! The staff was unconcerned and a bit nasty acting. I will be staying at MOTOR CITY next time!! THIS PLACE SUCKS (we had the Penthouse $800) never again!!

I booked this hotel on http://skyauction.com for $270 for two nights (Friday/Saturday) and was happy with my purchase. I know, some of you will complain about the $20 a day charge for valet parking....come out to Seattle and that will double...quit whining...
The hotel is located in Greektown...where the action is in Detroit as far as I could see. A short walk to Ford Field or CommericA Park or to the Transit Station to Windsor...all the places I needed to go.
The rooms were HUGE, the staff was friendly and helpful. I got a late checkout on a Sunday....a big plus. I liked this hotel. A little more room than I needed, but when I return to Detroit, I will return here! -

All of the times I've stayed at the Atheneum, I've hoped for more. I think I'll have to look elsewhere after this time, because apparently some things don't change.
This last stay, I booked a premium suite, thinking it would be nice to take a soak in a whirlpool tub after dinner. The total charge (before room service) was $228.85.... A price I didn't mind paying until I saw what I actually got.
First of all, how is valet parking not included for this price?!?! $20 dollars a day? For a sometimes very slow experience?!? No thanks, I'll walk the two blocks for free parking, I think.
The marble counter tops and border around the whirlpool tub we all discolored and water stained. Has this place not heard of a good sealant? The carpet was a bit bubbly and warped on the opposite side of the hot tub, making me think that perhaps someone got a bit overzealous with the water levels, or that there had been a leak at some point. The wall paper was discolored and small peel-y spots could be seen throughout the room. The flat screen tv's look nice, but the reception on almost every channel was fuzzy and grainy. I tried adjusting the cords, thinking maybe something had come loose, but it was to no avail. The complimentary wi-fi was nice (and with what your paying, it SHOULD be complimentary) but slow, slow, slow. I opened the bedside table to find a pen and paper and found (what was clearly given away by the smell and residue) a "Guest Survey" form folded up with remnants of weed all over it. Once I opened that drawer and let the smell out, the whole room reeked for an hour.( I'm not against those that do indulge, btw. It's just not for me. And for housekeeping not to clean the room thoroughly at such a "reputable" hotel, that's just disappointing. )
The bed was actually the worst part. It has to be the least comfortable bed I've slept in ever. I woke up feeling like the day after you've been in a car accident; stiff and sore. The walls also seem incredibly thin. All night long, I kept hearing laughing and talking from the room next to mine, along with any and all conversation from people going down the hall.
The neighborhood isn't bad at all (It cracks me up when people say it is!) though, admittedly, there were some questionable-looking people hanging around out front. Room service was remarkably quick, though it's a bit pricey for what you're actually getting.
Funnily enough, I ended up staying at the Embassy Suites off of 275 not terribly long after my last visit to the Atheneum, and got a cleaner, nicer room for almost half the price with a FULL COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST including an omelete station, fresh fruit bar, coffee, soft drinks, cereal, donuts, etc. -
Review from Seoung L.
I have stayed at their Jacuzzi Suite few times and I really like it here. I do recommend this place for out of towners to stay because the location is awesome and it's probably one of the better Hotels in the heart of the city.
My Suite had like an upper tier are for the Jacuzzi which is wide open in the room. The Jacuzzi tub isn't the biggest but it's good enough. The upper tier has a TV and couch also. The lower tier is the Bed and it's own TV and both tier is open so it just feels like a one big room.
The room service is excellent and they give you free news paper in the morning.
The prices are decent and the customer service is always fabulous.
The location is the key for this Hotel. It's connected to a great restaurant Fishbone's and you can walk to the Greektown Casino without going outside. (except to cross the street between two buidlings). It's a block away from Greektown itself and few blocks away from Comerica Park and Ford Field to watch the Tigers or the Lions. About 4 blocks away from Renaissance Center and Hart Plaza.
If you're coming into town and need a place to stay, I would recommend Atheneum. It's even good for a night for locals to enjoy Detroit without having to drive home late night. -
Review from Ryan N.
New York, NY
Large rooms and comfortable bed are the major pros for this place. The other being its location in greektown and all the attractions that offers.
A few things really annoyed me about this hotel. The Wifi is terrible! I wouldn't even call it highspeed. If you are planning on doing any web browsing beyond checking email prepare for a frustratingly slow experience. Actually impossible to watch any video such as a movie trailer. Someone mentioned the A/C being terrible. I stayed in winter and noticed the heat was not great either. Had to turn it up to 80 to get some level of comfort. My wife and I both noticed the smell of smoke even though it is supposed to be a non-smoking room. They have a fascist mini-bar policy that apparently weighs anything you put in and take out so you can't actually use the fridge to keep your left over food cold.
If you can get past all that you will have a comfortable place to stay with friendly staff in a nice neighborhood which is why I am giving it three stars. -

Love the rooms and the location. 24hr room service, flat screen tv's, modern and clean. All must haves for me. Having a casino right there is cool but having to pay for drinks is re-dic. Prob my favorite hotel for Detroit.

What a lovely hotel. We were in Detroit for a US Fencing tournament and we decided to stay at the Atheneum because it was by the people mover (an elevated train that goes to spots downtown, including the convention center). We loved the large suite and the great tub and nice large bathroom. The hotel was very clean and the staff was extremely nice. Brenda was especially nice when we checked in and even remembered us the next day! She took time to ask my son how he did at the tournament! The restaurant is good in the hotel but Greektown was great. My only complaint about Detroit is that cabs are difficult to find outside of the main downtown.

I recently stayed at the Atheneum for one night. That was all the time necessary for me to know that I was in... a convention hotel.
The hotel was recently remodeled (in the last 5 years I think) and the rooms are very nice. My room had a living room with flat-panel TV right when you walk in, and then a large bathroom with soaking tub. Down some steps (within the room) was the bedroom with two queen beds and another flat-panel TV. The view out the floor-to-ceiling windows was nice, but remember that you're in Detroit. Its not some architectural marvel.
The real issue I faced with giving this hotel a better rating was the cleanliness. While in the hotel, every ledge and surface seemed to have a thick layer of dust on it. As I took the glass elevator up, I could see the edge of each floor as I went up, and every one of the ledges had a thick layer of dust. If they were paying any attention to detail at all, they should have caught this. Additionally, the windows in the room had fingerprints all over them which tells me the housekeeping hadn't cleaned the windows between guests.
I don't think many people stay at the Atheneum for the hotel itself. I got the distinct impression that people stayed there for class reunions and small conferences.
One more thing, the "continental breakfast" included all of the following: Orange Juice, Apple Juice, Coffee, Tea, one type of muffin, and a tiny plate of pineapple chunks. A joke, to be honest. -

I just returned home from a stay in very chilly Detroit. The high point of this trip was this hotel. My company had booked to hold an evening reception here thus we stayed here for two nights. Our rooms were $249 per night and were gigantic suites with large sitting area, marble bath with soaking tub, 2 flat screen TVs and comfy beds.
The staff here is the most unbelievably friendly and amazing I have ever experienced as ANY price point. I have travelled all over the world and logged hundreds of nights in hotel rooms. Never have I had such unbelievably excellent service from EVERYONE - the valet, registration, security, concierge, housekeeping and the catering staff. No request was too much and all were fulfilled in less than a fraction of the time I would have expected.
The location is also great - right on the people mover - easy access to Cobo Hall, Joe Louis Arena and the stadiums. It also s across the street from one of the casinos and smack dab in the middle of Greektown - a wonderful neighborhood of great restaurants and bars.
Take my advice - don't stay anywhere else! -

It appeared to be an older hotel with modern decor. The walls were a bit thin. I had a hard time sleeping because there is a night club next to it and I could hear the loud music till about 3am or so. This is the one thing that made me never want to go back. It wasn't worth the money, but the rooms were decorated nicely and were quite large.

Review from Farida B.
This is Detroit's only 4-star hotel. Considering this hotel is located in the middle of a sad, dumpy area, that's not saying much about Detroit.
I had to stay here overnight for a business trip and I cannot imagine why they suggested this place for 2 young women to stay at (our meetings were an hour north of the city). The location is seedy. I'm no suburban princess or anything, heck I don't bat in eye in SE D.C. or even in downtown Baltimore, but this place was no joke. I didn't leave the hotel alone at night.
The upsides: The room was really nice. I got a junior King suite, which had a nice huge TV and a really nice bathroom with soaking tub. The continental breakfast was actually decent, aside from the coffee and juice, there was fresh pineapple and strawberries, muffins, and a good assortment of pastries. The pastries weren't fresh or anything, but they were good enough. -

We stayed here for DEMF weekend. We'd originally booked a double suite, but upon arrival, the manager was summoned by the front desk clerk and we were then told that there were some kids in that room the night prior that "were partying too hard and trashed the room." She offered us a room w/ a king bed and pull out couch. We conjured that she was afraid we would be those kids and trash the room, so she offered us a downgrade. I guess I don't blame her given it was the weekend of DEMF, however, we didn't have glow sticks in hand, raver pants on, or pacifiers in our mouths.
on to the room! It was a smoking room...w/ no windows that could be opened or vents either! Not even an exhaust fan in the bathroom. How could something like this happen, you ask?? B/c we were in detroit, that's how!!! The sound transfer between rooms was very good...this being a BAD thing. We could hear the couple next to us fighting and we even heard a glass being thrown.
Apparently, from what we've heard, the Atheneum is one of the nicer hotels in Detroit. yikes!!!! -

We got a great price for this hotel on Priceline. However, I don't think I'd recommend staying here, especially if you are paying full price. Both nights we stayed were super noisy. I am all for having events at a hotel but someone needs to make sure that the party in the lobby can't be heard on the 3rd floor. Checking in took forever. The valet costs $20 a day and it sometimes took a really long time to retrieve our car. I liked the location and that it's connected to Fishbones but I think there are probably better options downtown.

Review from Joe T.
Me and my friends have booked rooms in this all-suite hotel on several occasions. I have enjoyed a few downtown birthdays here as well. This is an awesome hotel. Very much in the heart of the lively Greektown neighborhood, so the casino and tons of restaurants are in walking range of here. There's even a mediocre and low-profile, low-mileage gentleman's club called Bouzouki's across the street. For the family friendly, don't let that deter you from this great hotel, because it's hard to see and only attracts legitimate patrons.
This hotel's lobby is spacious, grand, and adorned with plenty of Greek paintings, statues, and architecture. It's not over the top, but it's enough to let a brother know he in Greektown. The suites are awesome! The most square footage for the buck in the D! It's an all-suite hotel, but let me warn you, when you get your room - inspect the size - because due to the floor layout, some rooms in the SAME tier still have less floor space than others!
Rooms have 2 TVs, one in the bedroom area and one in the living room area. Bathrooms are huge. Rooms are up to date and clean. Plenty of space to move about! The fact that suites here can be had for discounted rates of well under $200 is great value. Suites at the boutique/antique Omni in the outskirts of downtown are more than twice this cost, and that for a worse location in my opinion.
Staff is kind, there's a bar/grill on the main floor, and the hotel is connected to Detroit's popular Fishbone's restaurant! I hear that Fishbone's does the room service as well (which is nice because pricing off of the restaurant menu will be more economy friendly than via inflated in-house hotel dining).
All in all, I have had great experiences here. They are also very kind to late checkouts at 1PM, which guys like me who party hard on Saturday nights can appreciate on a detox Sunday afternoon. My girlfriend once forgot her laptop and iPod in her room, and with some repeated calls and probing, was able to recover it from their vast lost and found (which looked like a garage sale of valuables). It was just nice to see that having left those valuables behind in a Detroit hotel did not equate to them being stolen. If you want a comfortable up to date suite, in a fresh up to date hotel, with awesome location in the best and safest part of downtown Detroit - all for sub-$200/night, this is definitely the hotel for you! In recent times, I have been booking $50 3-star rooms via Hotwire & Priceline, but for a special occasion, and when I need more space for more guests, I will surely come back here! -

Good choice for Detroit travelers. Large, clean rooms and bathrooms. I'm really picky about hotels and I would def recommend this one. The gentleman that was on shuttle duty the days I was there was just awesome...great story teller. The free shuttle is such a deal. Really liked the on-site restaurant, think it's called fishbones. Really good breakfast deal, eggs, bacon, toast and coffee for right around $5. As other reviewers have said it really is in a good location for Detroit, you are within walking distance to some decent restaurants. Personally, I liked the strip club outside my window. I've never had that next to any hotel I've stayed at so great novelty. So why the 4 stars and not 5? Sorry but it is located in Detroit.

This was surprisingly a decent hotel? They let us check in a couple hours early (as we were camping out in the business center). The rooms were pretty big suites, clean, and comfortable. I think the bathroom was bigger than my first NYC apartment. I have no complaints. It's in a bit of a random location but I didn't feel unsafe or far from where I needed to be (a few blocks away). For $129/night I thought it was very good value.

Those that come to Atheneum must understand upfront that it is always busy with something. This is one of the hotels in Detroit that hosts a lot of patrons for various annual events, as well as high school homecomings and proms. Therefore, I suggest checking with the reservation staff before booking your room, if you wanted to perhaps have a quiet weekend. The Atheneum is actually a nice hotel and appears to be getting better with upcoming renovations. It is right in the heart of the city (located across from the Casino), so you are definitely in walking distance to fun activities.

I had a wonderful experience at the Atheneum Suite Hotel. I stayed there just to get away one weekend. My room had a jacuzzi per my request. I didn't have a major event or any thing like that happening so I wasn't rushing around or in a panic. Room service when ordered was timely, check in was swift and my time spent in the bar and restaurant were enjoyable. My room was also clean and the concierge was hospitable. Overall, I had the weekend I needed.

I cannot say enough about my time at Atheneum. It honestly was my best experience at hotel, ever. I stayed here the weekend of June 19th for my wedding. They were unbelievably accommodating. I had already enjoyed my first night in a deluxe suite by taking a bath in their amazing bathtub and relaxing with friends in the spacious living room area. The next day I needed to be moved into the Premium suite I'd booked for my honeymoon night with my husband, early, so I didn't have to worry about how long I took getting ready for my wedding. Not only did they allow me to check in early but they upgraded me to a Senators suite that impressed everyone that was helping me get ready for my wedding that day! The room, or should I say apartment, was amazing! Curtis, the concierge there told me and a bridesmaid were we could get a great deal on beautiful flowers for my bouquet as well as the bouquets for my bridesmaids. Andre, another concierge was always there to help as well. Valet, the front desk, and management were beyond reproach! I fret well taking care of and valued as a customer! My the time I left I felt like I knew everyone and they knew my husband and I. I highly recommend the Atheneum for your special occasion!

Center Line, MI
Hotel overbooked, so we were moved to a smaller suite. It still was nice and they compensated me nicely. Only complaints are not enough towels in the bathroom and the bathroom wasn't as clean as it should've been. Pay in advance and room will be under $150.

Review from Emily Z.
Ann Arbor, MI
Our stay was a disaster. My fiancee and I stayed there over Thanksgiving, because we were not able to travel home to see our families, and we had tickets to the Lions game. We called the hotel several times to ask questions before deciding to stay there, and even switched our reservations from another hotel to the Atheneum because of the things we were told over the phone, which all ended up not being true. For instance, I asked about the shuttle service and if they were going to be running because the Thanksgiving Day Parade causes a lot of traffic problems. The woman on the phone told us that "our drivers know how to handle the parade traffic," and we were told that getting a shuttle to the game would not be a problem. But when we got there and asked for a shuttle to the game, we found out that the shuttles were not running... due to parade traffic. We were concerned about traffic and parking, so we asked what the parking situation was, and we were told that most things are within walking distance and that we could park in their lot and walk to the Thanksgiving events. What we were not told until we got there is that it costs $20 a day to park. We also asked about breakfast and dinner options since we were going to be there over Thanksgiving Day. We were told that there is a complimentary breakfast and a Thanksgiving dinner buffet at the restaurant within the hotel. We later found out that the "complimentary" breakfast is around $15 a person, and all you get is some juice, an english muffin and some fruit, and the Thanksgiving dinner was a plate, not a buffet, and was also not the price we were quoted. To make matters worse, we filled out a comment card and left it at the front desk, and never heard anything back. So a few weeks later, we called and asked for a manager. We were sent to a voicemail, so we left a message, and never heard anything back. The trip was way more expensive than we had planned because of many of these things, and we were misinformed on many accounts. If they had contacted us, even just to apologize, we would have considered going back. But it is obvious that they do not care about their customers, and we will never stay there again.
