I decided on the combo platter for 2 since this was my first time here. I've posted a picture. The combo was 50/50 in my opinion:
The hummus and pita were great! I work out at a gym in the same plaza, so I could see this being a frequent snack. A+
The gyro meat was fine. It lacked seasoning, but I might give it another try. B-
I didn't care for the grape leaves at all. For all I know they might have been prepared perfectly, and maybe I just don't like grape leaves. The filling was okay. C-
The falafel broke my heart. I like falafel. I like falafel a lot. The patties were overcooked and very hard (on my next visit I asked, and they said the falafel is supposed to be hard). They also lacked seasoning. My hopes were highest for this part of the combo. Unfortunately I got this to go, so I couldn't do much to have it corrected short of driving back. Not happening. D-
I plan to eat here again. The hummus by itself will ensure that. The staff are really nice and helpful too. Hopefully I'll be able to raise my rating.
*UPDATE* I went recently and had the spanokopita. It was good- mild considering it has feta in it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tara S.Jacksonville, FL2028288May 12, 2017
The wait staff might not be prompt but the good was delicious! I had the spinach pie for an appetizer and a traditional gyro with potato salad. Unfortunately, this location permanently closed and I never had a chance to go back.

The food here was amazing! We are visiting from out of town, and this is close to where we are staying. Love the falafel, hummus, pita bread, saffron rice, dolmas and garlic potato which I had all vegetarian as a sampler dish. The gyro was so good, our 2 year old didn't let us take home any left overs.
Brianna, our server, was kind enough to point out they had a Groupon and saved us some money! Will definitely go back next time we are in town.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - George D.Orlando, FL4069253429Jun 10, 2013
I noticed that Athena's Grill opened a new location on the East side of town on Chickasaw Trail. I went in for a quick lunch.
I ordered the traditional Gyro wrap. Man this thing was the size of my plate. It is the best $6.99 you can spend. The yogurt sauce they use on these sandwiches I can tell was freshly made. My plate came with a freshly made cole slaw that had raisins in it. quite tasty. I dined alone, so I was in and out.
Will be back. recommend you should too.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ilka T.Avon Park, FL21867553May 9, 2015
The gyros are so good. Full of flavor. The meat is a little salty (but I think that's just how it's suppose to be). The portions are huge. At least I couldn't finish it. The fries have a nice crunch. And their tzatziki sauce is some of the best I've ever had.
The beef dolma is out of this world. Perfect flavor and so authentic.
The baklava is the perfect end to a great meal and a nice sweet treat. It's crunch yet slightly soggy with the right amount of honey. This was my first Greek place in Orlando and I have no interest to try anything else because I'm very happy.
Service is great. Quick and efficient service.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily B.Orlando, FL81163Jun 4, 2015
Went here due to a groupon special. The food was very good. I love there gyro and pasta salad it's so good. Their potatoe salad my husband loves and for the prices you get lots of food. My husband was not to happy when he asked for a beer the server said their liquor license was expired and they could not sell any.
yikes how did u let that happen.
But it was okay we will be coming again with the kids.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mich W.Orlando, FL1468278Nov 12, 2013Purchased a Yelp Deal
For me it would be 3.5 stars, if possible. Athena's Grill is in a plaza with Publix and a pet store so it's convenient. Shop, pick up crickets for the gecko, nosh on a Gyro....
This area is jam-packed with fast food and little else, so keeping that in mind, It's nice to have a little Greek family restaurant nearby for a change, even though it's simple, no frills.
Their staff has always been friendly, in person and on the phone. The prices are very affordable, I'd say it's a "cheap eats", place yet portions are generous. We order takeout, so the drab, dated decor doesn't matter. For dining in, I could see it being a damper. But heck, it's a diner-style, strip mall restaurant, not fine dining.
The portions of meat, tomatoes and greens in the traditional gyros are generous for the price of $6.99 and comes with a side. My only complaint is that at times, the meat slices are too chunky, rather than the thin shavings piled into those layers we love. Depends on the server I think. But the flavor is good, the tzatziki sauce is bold, you can taste the onions, which I like.
Now about the sides, herein lies the problem. I'm convinced that there's just 1 person preparing sides, the one with flawed taste buds and a heavy hand, because they are consistently too salty. I mean inedible salty. So I usually just get the cole slaw. Also, their lentil soup was the same color, taste and consistency of Mexican Chili! Very odd, surprised they would serve it. So I don't think anyone tastes the soup and sides, which have such obvious but easily fixable problems. That could lose customers for them.
So it's a mixed bag. But overall I'm happy to have them here, hoping they fix the salty sides and spruce up the place a bit. Will be back to try other items soon,Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ricky L.Orlando, FL5232662105Jan 26, 2015
We dropped by this little "Greek" cafe on the corner of Lake Underhill road and Chickasaw Trail the other day for lunch. I am a big fan of gyros, filled with juicy slices of meat stuffed inside a nice toasty pita and a slathering of white tzatziki sauce.
Service was nothing exceptional, in fact, we had to get up to get our checks at the end of the meal as the restaurant appeared to be rather understaffed that day and we were tired of waiting.
Food also was nothing exceptional, though I did enjoy their crunchy, crispy fries. My gyro was satisfactory, but could have used more meat and a less thick of a pita bread slice.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sean A.Orlando, FL13121May 31, 2015
I'm from NY and used to get really good Greek made gyros from this little hole in the wall place called The Gyro Hut on Hempstead Tpke. They made home made tzaziki sauce and their gyros we're THE BEST!
Since living in Orlando I couldn't find a Gyro shop to tame my occasional craving, but one day when trying out a dry cleaners, I struck gold! I found this little spot called Athena's Grill and boy was I happy!
My first time stopping in I ordered the open face gyro platter with fries and OMG did they serve up one hell of an order. I'm some what of a pig when it comes to meals and this one was enough to leave me full. The fries we're typical, so I'll try something else next time, but the meal was great. My only comment would be that I would have preferred red onions to the regular ones they used on the gyro and I don't think the tzaziki was homemade, but overall and enjoyable meal.
Would definitely make this a regular spot!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chantel C.Oviedo, FL2756158Jan 1, 2015
The good first: The open face gyros are huge with fresh ingredients and soft bread. The sauce is a little heavy on the onion, would be nice to taste more of the "fresh" cucumber which is supposed to be the main star.
The spinach pie appetizer whist has a good flavor, only comes with 4 tiny pieces.
The pita with Tzitaki sauce was good but I feel we should have ordered the hummus instead.
The Mousakka was my sad disappointment!! Being a cook, it's not hard to tell this was either frozen or reheated left overs from at least two days old :(
Now on to the bad, sadly. I was conflicted if I should even mention it, let's face it, this type of incident isn't good for future business.
My daughter looked at me in horror and said don't scream Mom, there is a roach on the bench next to your head. I turned around and met eye to eye one of those brown kitchen roaches. This was NOT a palmetto bug which can be excused in Florida as they live in landscaping. I've worked in many restaurants in my life, these are the ones you see on hoarders and kitchen nightmare type TV shows. We calmly called the waitress over, she was mortified and quickly grabbed it with a napkin. She couldn't apologize enough and was so nice! At this point one would expect the owner/manager to come over and apologize....that did NOT happen.
Being in restaurant/customer service field my entire life has given me minimal expectations for how places deal with situations, this was no exception!
We received and paid our full bill and tipped our lovely server well.
The beautiful young lady who served us was very polite and I can't fault her service one bit!!
We don't live very close so this was a one time visit place for sure.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
