I considered giving this place 5 stars, and I'm a harder reviewer than most... meaning... this place is awesome.

I came here because it was there... I hadn't heard anything about it except that it well, existed.  I didn't have much to go on, but I decided to give it a shot.  If you're ever in the Northern Neck of Virginia, you really need to check out at least this place and Vault Field Vineyard, they are both excellent.

This place has some great grounds to relax at, and a relatively large interior to enjoy should the weather be bad.  The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they really help you enjoy the experience.

Of course the most important aspect of visiting a winery has to be how good the wine is, and the reds to not disappoint.

The whites are ok, certainly better than the average VA wineries.  They make some white blend, lighthouse white that comes in a lighthouse shaped bottle, its good flavor, very accessible, especially for those who aren't as accustomed to drinking wine.

The winners are the reds... they are all well made and of top quality.  The Meritage is a great winner as are the Cabs.

My favorite, however, surprised the hell out of me.  A VA Pinot Noir.  It is beautiful.  A 2007 and apparently the last wine ever made by legendary vintner Jacques Recht.  He is famous in VA for his wines, and this was apparently his last great accomplishment (bringing PN to VA is no small feat).  The story goes that Recht bought and planted Pinot Grigio vines, and when the grapes grew, they were red... a mix up and PN ended up growing well on their property.  It has a brilliant flavor of red cherry and cassis, and a subtle spicy finish.  The right amount of lasting flavor that you can just keep enjoying it.

I really like this place and it will be one of the wineries that I point to as a great example of VA wine.  Oh, and this is more stream of consciousness, but they make a chambourcin port that you can get in a ship bottle (Safe Harbor)... its great as well for all the port lovers, thats a good way to end.  Cheers.
