Don't get your hopes up, Athena Express has been closed for a couple of months now. Disregard the Athena sign on the corner of 77th street that still hangs proudly.

Our favorite Greek restaurant in Bay Ridge for both eating in and take out. We love the saganaki, moussaka, and of course, the gyros, and are busy working our way through the menu trying out other great stuff. Great prices, excellent service, and kid-friendly (important for our new family) - we've had the absolute best experience coming here.

Edit: Little Athena (the owner changed the name from Athena Express) does accept credit cards, contrary to the business info at the top.

Spied Athena Express while looking for a Middle Eastern lunch joint.   Whoa what a surprise!  Grilled pita with housemade hummus is broght to the table- so much for my Middle Eastern regrets.

...Lamb kebab sandwich with tzatziki, lettuce and tomato on grilled pita.$5.50- delish
....Chicken, lemon soup with rice- a cuppa for $2.95  also soothingly delish.

    Very satisfying!

Two words: holy yum!  I just got home with vegetarian moussaka, Greek salad, and hummus and warm pita and this food is excellent.  Cannot wait to try more from the menu.

The place is tiny but very cute inside and the man who took my order and made the food was so nice and helpful.

I very rarely write Yelp reviews, but this place is a Bay Ridge (and from what I've read, Park Slope) gem.

Yelpers have raved about the Park Slope location since it opened last year, but would the "express" location live up to the original?  I am happy to say it does.  Although the menu is not as extensive as the Park Slope location it is still quite extensive, and many of the dishes from the original are rotated in as specials... plus they have a license to serve wine and beer at this location.  The dining room is on the smaller side, but no need to worry since takeout and delivery are available.

This is a family-owned business and many of staffers wear several hats.  Our server Teddy also seemed to be the manager and did some of the cooking with his brother in the back.  He was so friendly and enthusiastic about the food I found myself wanting to try everything on the menu.

After much deliberation, I ended up ordering lukaniko (grilled sausage), avgolemono (chicken soup with lemon and egg), the Athenian Meat Platter (chicken kebab, lamb kebab, pork kebab, and gyro with a salad, pita, and tzatziki), with coffee and honey cookies for dessert.  I finished it all, and I don't regret it one bit.

As we dined, Teddy offered us a glass of wine on the house and his brother the chef (Spiro I think) came out to see how we enjoyed our meal.  Really as amazing as the food was the hospitality of the staff made the experience that much more enjoyable.

PS - Their takeout menu also informs us that Chef Spiro also has an online cooking show "Get Ya Greek On" where he shows you how to cook some of their dishes.  How cool is that?

Absolutely outrageous Greek food. I've yet to eat in, but it looks like a good place to sit and try some of the more traditional and complex dishes that the chef offers. The food explodes with complex flavors and you can tell that all the ingredients are high quality and fresh. Reasonably priced too!!!

So far I've tried the hummus, gyro, chicken gyro, lemon chicken soup and geek salad. Everything is five stars+

Check this place out, you won't regret it.

Big tasty portions! We dined in for lunch and the service was surprisingly slow, but very polite. I will definitely order from here sometime.

Just tried this place out on a whim and it was great. The owner, Teddy seems to really care about the customers which is nice. The food was great, not one complaint. We'll definitely be back. The desert (I forget the name but it had custard and a long hard to pronounce name) was literally unbelievable. I will be craving it.

Really good service, friendly staff and cozy feel. My bf and I stopped by right before closing time and ordered hummus and a gyro platter. While we waited, the owner offered us wine, which was really nice. The food was delicious and the staff took time to interact with us. It seems that they genuinely care about their customers, which is hard to find nowadays.
