Review from Mike O.
Want to wipe out your kids and leave them dead-tired in about 2 hours' time? Bring them to Atcher Island. This is an outdoor pool and pretty fancy water park located in the southwest end of Schaumburg, within sight of the Hanover Park water tower. Despite being savvy suburbanites, this is one of those gems even we didn't know about till we went searching for a water park off the beaten path.
We came here on the 4th of July and despite a packed parking lot, we were surprised at how un-crowded the park was once inside. In about 2-1/2 hours, they were wrapped in their towels and ready to call it a day. The water-loving Stunt Boy fell asleep in the car on the way home.
Run by the Schaumburg Park District, this place really is a bargain compared to Mystic Waters in Des Plaines or a big park like at Great America or even one of those indoor hotel water parks. Being so far from the retail side of Schaumburg, it remains mostly undiscovered by outsiders so it's not too crowded. It has a max capacity of only 450, which means you won't spend the afternoon standing on a stairway waiting to go down some water slide a few times.
The park's most prominent features are two large water slides. The top of the water slide tower resembles a straw tiki hut. The blue slide has twists and turns and descends into a shallow 3-foot pool. The yellow slide is an enclosed tube with a very steep descent leading into a circular chamber that spins you around a few times before dropping you through the bottom, giving you a "royal flush" into an 8-foot deep pool, while jets of air bubbles shoot up your nostrils.
But if that's not your game, don't worry. There's literally an entire water playground for smaller kids, complete with tipping buckets, multiple slides, and sprayers they can point and shoot. A giant bucket of water depicting an angry Polynesian god I call The Big Kahuna fills and discharges a huge waterfall on unsuspecting people below, or a few daring kids who await the massive deluge underneath.
There's also a swimming pool that is only 4 feet at its deepest point. It too has some sprayers, so you can swim or play there. Off to the side and away from the action, there's even a shallow wading pool with a small water slide for the under-3 kids or even babies to splash around.
On the north end, a small restaurant sells drinks, cheesy nachos and some sandwiches in case you want a snack. Locker rooms aren't spectacular, but they are clean and appear well-maintained. I recommend bringing your own padlock, since renting a padlock is $5. Otherwise, you can always leave your stuff in the car, get your hand stamped at the desk and come back to get it later.
In all, it's a fabulous park not too far away and at a good price you can afford to bring your family. Two adults and 2 kids for $32 for non-residents can't be beat for a park of this magnitude.Listed in: Water Parks and pools around…

I agree with the 1st reviewers notes, I do love everything this waterpark has to offer and would make it "the" pool we go to all summer but, when every other pool we go to allows for life vests (provided you get it checked in as coast guard certified)- they do not which left my toddler very unhappy. :-(
