Oh Atami, you bring back so many wonderful memories each time I visit you when I'm home!

Now this is the place where my passion for raw fish began. I can blame my ex boyfriend (who looks like the love child of The Rock and Jacob Black interestingly enough) for this obsession. He would take me here for lunch constantly the summer before my freshman year (college) and tease me into trying those slimy pieces of fish on top of white rice. Ok, so I admit it, I ate it for him... but then I started to like it... and then I started to really, REALLY like it. Fast forward 7 years, and I am a sushi eating machine.

Atami Steak & Sushi offers a full sushi bar but they are also part hibachi. Although I have been for the hibachi, I prefer to stick to their sushi menus especially for lunchtime. Is this the best sushi that the entire Houston suburban area has to offer? Certainly not, but for the prices the quality is pretty bangin'. This past Friday I went with the ex for lunch for old times sake and I ordered a spicy tuna roll, yellowtail sushi, sweet shrimp sushi, and of course two salmon sushi. The spicy tuna roll was exactly how I remembered it- yummy with just the right amount of kick. The salmon was by far the best but the sweet shrimp came in for a close second. I don't even know why I ordered the yellowtail as I was pretty full after having onion soup, salad and all that sushi. All of it was freshly prepared and thoroughly enjoyed.

If you're looking for an easy, tasty, and conveniently located meal in Katy, Atami can fulfill your meat and sushi needs. The service is good, the food is solid, and compared to the likes of Benihana, it's a lot more affordable.

We go there every Friday for sushi - it's a tradition now.  We found the most wonderful staff, a really great sushi chef and the service is homey, warm and very, very attentive. The pricing is great.

They do have Hibachi chefs as well and my family and friends are enamored as well

Ever have one of those restaurant that is one of your absolute favorites, so you tell everyone about how good it is? Ever go back to that restaurant and have food so mediocre that you feel bad singing praises about the establishment? Well, that happened to me here.

The quality of the sushi roll combo has dropped significantly. If you are a quantity vs quality type of person and three sushi rolls for just under $10 sounds great to you, go for it. If you want something that tastes great, take your money elsewhere.

The service was good, food as expected anit's the show was typical for this type of restaurant. it was fine. My only negative observation was being hustled out immediately after we were done. I made a joke about it and the manager offered to comp a drink at the bar but only after my little joke... Whichi thanked them and declined. I would not ask them to offer a drink but perhaps a gentler way to ask us to move our discussions to the bar area so the next reservation for the Hibatchi table could be seated. I was a little embarrassed so we left. Otherwise, it was a nice experience.

I like to come here for lunch. The bento boxes are my fav, and they always come out quickly. The onion soup does leave something to be desired. The broth isn't quite as rich as it could be, and the mushrooms they put on top are very dry and often leathery, but they're dehydrated, so I guess it's to be expected.

The salad is okay too. I'm sure it's just a bagged salad, but I really like the dressing.

The chicken teriyaki is def my favorite. The chicken isn't completely doused in sauce, only lightly coated, and you can still taste the meat, which is just how I like it.

Really, the only thing that I wish would improve, other than the onion soup, is the service. Sure, it's quick and efficient, but no matter how much you smile at your waitress, it's practically impossible to get a smile out of them. I've been waited on by two different ladies both times I've been there, and so far, lack of happy (at least with customers) seems to be a constant. It makes me feel as if I've inconvenienced them by coming into eat.

I'll definitely be back though, regardless of the less-than-friendly service.

This is a great restaurant that I love to go to when I'm in Katy.   This is the place responsible for my addiction to sushi.  The first ever roll I tried was Atami's Scorpion Roll, and since then I am a total sushi whore.   I've graduated to raw sushi, but I still will go back to my beloved Scorpion Roll whenever I am here!
Their hibachi plates are good, and I love the vegetables.
The staff has always been friendly and attentive.   There is sometimes a wait if you go during peak times, but it has never been unbearable.

Very good sushi!  The Honeymoon roll is awesome!  Our 2nd favorite place for sushi in Katy.  Prices are a bit high and service is so-so.

Other than that - a place to try sushi in Katy.

So, my dear friend Brandon and I decided to take our mom (yeah, she adopted him) out to dinner. We met at her house and decided to go for either Sushi or Hibachi.. and guess what!? This place has both!

We called in advanced to ask if there was a wait, and (of course) there was a 30 minute wait. They were very helpful and put our names on the list while we made it there. once we got there we got some wine from the bar and waited to be seated. About 15 mins later we were seated at our table.

One thing I always forget about Hibachi restaurants is that you shouldn't go to hungry, because they take a little while preparing the food! It took about 10-15mins after we were seated for the chef to grace us with his presence, but once he got there, he got straight down to business. I ordered fillet Mignon and shrimp, my mom shrimp and chicken and Brandon Fillet Mignon. The combo meals (which were the ones we ordered) come with soup, salad and steamed rice. They charge $1.95 if you want to substitute for fried rice. My mom decided to have vegetables instead of rice. You can also just order sushi from the sushi side and they will bring it to your table.

The food was great! I was hungry, so my judgment may have been a little biased. My meat was cooked to perfection and the fried rice, although not the best I've ever had, was great! The wine was also good and at $6 a glass, I thought was very affordable. Prices for the food however range from $13 to $32 per person. I believe mine was something like $23.95. I had an awesome time and so did my companions, so I will definitely go there again.

Atami is a great restaurant.   It's a great local Japanese restaurant and Hibachi Grill.  The service is good and the hostesses are very pleasant.
The food is excellent.   You have to know about Authentic Japanese food to appreciate Atami.   It's not only about the food being good... it's also about utilizing the sauces of which complements the food.

It's not for everyone but it "IS" for those who can appreciate GOOD Japanese food.   I've been to several Japanese restaurants in Houston and in California and Atami "IS" one of the better ones!!

I did the Habachi grill experience and came away with mixed feelings.

The staff is very attentive and more then helpful, I found this to be very refreshing. Service! You gotta love it!

The food was average tablefare for this type of cooking. Had a side order of Tempura Calamari and was disappointed. No flavor, no salt, just real bland. Maybe it was me, but I was expecting more to it.

I did pass by the Sushi Bar and it definitely requires a second trip back just to inspect this further.

Note: No artwork on the walls in the main Habachi area. Place was rather dull and plain looking.

Overall the wait staff gets 5 stars and the food only 2. We'll see what the second visit brings.

I really enjoyed my visit here. There was no wait (Sunday afternoon) and service (exept waiting for the grill to fill up) was great. I'm glad I was just there for sushi, my freind and I were starving, and he almost chewed his arm off. The show was the normal thing.
The sushi was great, service was fast, the decor and atmosphere was the norm for a hibachi grill, and my freind's meal was good.  The only reason I give it 4 stars is it was nothing spectacular. So... a good  place for a good meal, but not  for something really special, in my opinion.

Ordered the roll combination lunch special. It came with some sort of soup with mushrooms in it. I reckon it would be enjoyable for someone who enjoys mushrooms, but I don't, so I tossed it. Also came with a salad but also not a salad guy, so I tossed it. The sushi was pretty good, though, and by that, I mean it's pretty good in and of itself--not merely pretty good only when compared to the dog mess found at other sushi places in Katy. The sushi tasted fresh and wasn't drowned in some bizarre Thousand Island-cheese-hybrid sauce, like the sushi at some other local places.

I got a $14.99 veggie meal. Now of course most people go to sushi restaurants for the fish, so I feel a little funny reviewing this, but I'm sure most people would feel about the same way about my meal. My father got the daily lunch special, which was somewhat cheaper and included a ton of fish. He goes here a lot (at least once a week!), so he must like it!
It came with decent miso soup and a pathetic little salad that was totally swimming in an orangey horseradish-based dressing, which was good but excessive.
The meal was a roll with asparagus, mushroom, daikon and something else, no nori; two packets of fried sweetened tofu filled with rice that was seasoned and had sesame seeds; a nori-wrapped bundle of fresh-ish seaweed with rice; a nori-wrapped bundle of pickled mushrooms on rice; and sashimi-looking piles of various vegetables (avocado, mushroom, asparagus, daikon and something orange (the last two were seasoned horribly and dyed really bright)) on top of rice and strapped in with nori.
I finished very little of the meal, both because it was filling and because the daikon bundle and the orangey one were gross enough to hurt my appetite.
Service was prompt and efficient, if not friendly in the slightest.
It's in a strip mall, and despite having made some effort at a nice decor, it's really plain and definitely belongs in a strip mall near a Kroger.
For the price, atmosphere and food quality, it was not that satisfying of an experience. I would not return readily.

Atami is a good place for decent sushi, but the reason I go is for the Grill.  They seat you at a table and in the center is a large grill where a chef comes and prepares your food.  *Always get the fried rice* because the chefs have a special presentation that they do while cooking the fried rice (and it tastes very good too).  The scallops are large and very tasty.  I like the sauce that they give you with the meal.  Before the meal you will get a nice (small) salad with asian dressing (fun to eat with chop stix).  Around the grill there is room to seat about 12.  Also at the end of the cooking the chef will toss extra pieces of shrimp and beef directly into the mouthes of customers.  It can make for an interesting atmosphere if eating at the grill with other customers (not awkward).

Atami has become my hangout for sushi.  I go about 2 times a week and have never been disappointed. The staff are very pleasant and the sushi is tasty. The only disappoint is the lack of "specials" for sushi for more variety!
