I hate going to these kinds of stores. I hate talking about cell phone plans, or 2 year contracts, and the phones are always still way over my budget. My husband however lost his phone a few weeks ago, and he really needed to replace it. We walked into the store and were immediately greeted by Jose. We told Jose about our situation (my husband had just gotten a contract so he wasn't up for a replacement anytime soon), and he brought us to a sales associate (don't remember her name, but she was great). They started talking and I immediately thought I had misunderstood when the sales rep handed us a free SIM card with my husbands information and told us to go to Best Buy and get a new basic phone for less than $10. Never in my life have I gone into ANY cell phone store and had them hook me up with some sort cheap solution. NEVER. Upon leaving the store my husband's response was, "You never see customer service like that anymore." I totally agree. It was magical, and almost unbelievable. Seeing how I am up to renew my contract, I'm sticking with AT&T. They should also hire more people like Jose.

I wish so badly I could give this place 0 stars. WORST WORST WORST! I have never once had a seamless and pleasant experience at this store. The staff does not seem to know what is going, they're never helpful and they can be straight up rude if you're not there to buy a new a phone or get a new plan.
The other day I had someone (I will graciously leave names anonymous) helping me change over the billing for my line. They sat on hold with the AT&T Customer Service for 20 minutes before realizing this service wasn't open on the wknds!!!! I mean come on. Furthermore, I was given a number to call and assured that it would be super simple and that they had done the legwork and all I needed to do was call to confirm. That turned out to be quite the opposite. I was on hold forever, there was no record of the work and the overall experience was confusing and frustrating.
I would love to boycott AT&T all together - especially this store. Forever. -

I don't expect much from AT&T, but they have hit a new low. My mom, who is on my plan, needed a new, basic (non smartphone) phone. I was "helped" by Oscar. I told him what I needed and then he began to talk me out of buying a phone from him. First, he told me that I would have to sign a 2 year contract, which is fine by me. When that wasn't successful, he told me that the basic phones will break before 2 years and then I would have to buy one at full price if it broke. So I said that her old cheap phone has worked for about 3 years. His response was that those phones aren't made like they used to be and that I shouldn't buy one. I explained to him that I would not be buying my mom a smartphone since she can't use it where she lives and so he didn't need to sell me on it. And then he continued to try to talk me out of buying my mom any phone at all. Which was entirely successful, because at that point I turned around and walked out.
I can't believe it. I was at the point of arguing with some sales associate who was trying to talk me out of buying something from him. So a few days before Christmas, I have to run around San Francisco trying to find my mom a new phone. Just what I needed.
Congrats AT&T. Oscar succeeded. As soon as my contract is up, I'm switching to Verizon. -

Worst experience ever. Be ready to tell 5 people what your issue is. They keep passing you from one to the next. Then when you get to the correct person, they screw up your order. Don't be fooled by the rest of the fake reviews.

I walked in here today and one of the employees wearing glasses was on the computer. I had to say hello myself. As I was telling him my concern, he was just looking at the computer screen. The conversation went a something like this:
Me: My iPhone was stolen a couple days ago and I need a new one. How much is a Phone4 of 16gb or 32gb?
AT&T guy: $99
Me: Unlocked?
AT&T guy: Have to go to Apple. That's $649.
Me: How come I bought one here three months ago when my first phone was stolen, and it was unlocked? I paid $549.
AT&T guy: I don't know. It's probably not the unlocked one.
Me: Oh strange. Even though I'm a customer and have a plan already though I can't buy a phone?
AT&T guy: We don't have here.
I couldn't continue talking to this guy. I'm at AT&T and not Apple for a reason smart ass. He was being argumentative instead of asking questions to try to solve my problem. He just turned his head away and didn't seem to care. He had the worst attitude, and didn't even acknowledge my existence. He didn't even say "have a nice day". I walked away mad because he didn't help me at all, even when I was being super nice. There are three guys that work at this location that are awesome, but unfortunately I walked in on the wrong day when they weren't there.
I have always liked AT&T and have bought 4 phones, including one at this location, and been using this service for years. I was very disappointed with the way I was treated, so I went to the one downtown and bought the iPhone there with sales reps who actually want to help me with much more enthusiasm. -

SO i go into this store yesterday wanting to purchase a new iphone 4s. I walk in and say, " i want to get a new iphone 16gb for my wife, do you have any in stock?" YES WE DO!
I am thinking GREAT as the last time i was in the store they were out (hence being the first thing that i ask...) So I am told that if I buy it for my wife they have to activate it straight away and her old phone will be de-activated. Fine! No problem i will send her in or come and get it later.
So my wife takes work off this morning (as they do not open til 10am-wish i had those hours) and goes to get her new phone to be told they have no stock for this phone....WHAT THE? Obviously the female sales assoc needs to listen a little more before saying yes to everything a customer says... I should have known when she asked me my name for the second time in 2 minutes there may have been some communication issues. What a COMPLETE waste of time!
Listen to your customers, to what they actually want! I am so angry!!!! Seems customer service is not a priority at this store... -

Holy crap - I walked into the store today on a rampage. I had my phone stolen a week ago, called it into insurance and am still without a phone. Why the 5 stars, you may ask? After a long day of work and rain and no lunch, I was super irritated, walked in to the store, gave the sales woman, Martina, a piece of my mind and she was overwhelmingly professional. She took my back talk and inappropriately displaced anger like the ultimate customer service rep- I have worked in retail and would NEVER have been that calm and collected. After I cooled off, I realized what a jerk I was being and (hopefully) redeemed myself a little bit.
I cannot stress enough how professional Martina was and I would deal with her again any day (though I am not sure she'd say the same of me!)- please be extra nice to her the next time you stop by! I am now off to have a much needed glass of wine to calm my frazzled nerves :) -

Wow. This is really bad. I would have called in my review, but I cannot even have a phone call that is not cut off.
I have had their miserable service for almost 2 years because I wanted an iPhone. I cannot warn your in stronger terms: WAIT until you can get it on another network. Or just get a different phone on another network.
Calls drop at the rate of 1 per maybe 10-20 minutes, so if you are trying to have a meeting of say 30, chances are you will get dropped.
It's stunningly bad.
Really really really bad.
You must avoid. Or you will suffer for not listening to me! -

PRO TIP: If your AT&T-provided router has a red light at the power indicator, all you have to do is replace the power supply.
PRO TIP: The last place one might check, the AT&T store, sells it for $10. Not the cheapest, but convenient given the stores are everywhere and still cheaper than the $40 adapter at RadioShack.
PRO TIP: Extreme friendliness, professionalism, and references to classic Chris Rock skits from SNL make the customer feel special and thus write five-star reviews like this one.
PRO TIP: The plural of moose is still moose. -

I lost my iPhone and came to this location to get a new sim card for my temporary phone. I walked in and was helped right away. Van assisted me in setting up my temporary phone with a sim card but there was a problem, AT&T's network was preventing my new sim card from working with my phone. He called network and asked what the issue was and informed me that it may take as little as 30 min or as long as 24 hours for my phone to work. I explanied to him that i have no way of making any calls because my bf's house didn't have a land line and i needed to call my job to straighten things out there. He was very kind and told me I could use their line and that I could take as long as I needed. He even offered my to use their internet if needed. This was great customer service and Van really got me out of my bind that morning. I really appreciated that.
And I returned to the the store a few days later to get another sim card for my new iPhone and was promptly helped.
AT&T's network may suck but from my experience this AT&T store has great customer service. -

My mother is the cheapest, most frugal person I've ever met. She is yet to have a mobile phone because . . . you know what? IT COSTS MONEY.
But there are a few words that do appeal to her: MONEY, DISCOUNT and FREE. So after weeks and weeks of watching Cingular commercials, she was determined to get that FREE mobile phone.
NISHisHOT: Mom, those phones are not free. There are activation fees, taxes and fine print.
MoM: No no no no no. I saw the commercial. They say it's FREE!
NISHisHOT: Mom, nothing is free. Remember those Columbia House CD's I signed up for in High School?
MoM: No no no no no. This is not like that. They said it's FREE!
NISHisHOT: Also I have to increase my plan which will increase my monthly charges.
MoM: No no no no no. I can use your roll-over minutes. They say it's FREE!
NISHisHOT: *showing restraint & maturity* Okay. I'll look into it.
* * *
THE RESULT:
Mobile phone for mom . . . + $1.00
Federal Taxes for $1 phone . . . + $15.00
Activation Fee for $1 phone . . . + $26.00
Required Monthly Plan Upgrade . . . + $35.00
* * *
DaD: Hey mom got the phone. Thanks. So how much did it end up costing you?
NISHisHOT: $42 for the phone. Plus $35 every month for 2 years.
DaD: I'll let her know it was FREE.

The Worst. Company. Ever. Infuriating customer service. They screw up my bill every single month - without fail and without deviation. And the changeover from ATT to Cingular? Complete trainwreck. When I got my new phone, and had to talk to about seven people to activate it, the jackass customer "service" representative explained that the reason I was getting so shuffled around is because I had called the wrong company (old, when I should have called the new Cingular). How, pray tell, should I have known to call the new Cingular? Because the SIM chip on my new phone was blue instead of silver (or whatever). She seemed really surprised that I didn't know this information. Please.
The website is a mess too. Customers who were with the "old" Cingular (ATT) have to click on some stupid link at the bottom so we can be directed to the crappiest website in the world at which we can usually find no information. Why are customers who have stayed with this "company" for years punished by even crappier service than new customers?
Reception and rates are fine; that's why I stay. But, lordy, give me a company that rivals both of these and I am so there.
UPDATE: A few months ago, I switched to "combined billing" because the Cingular rep assured me that it would make my dealings with Cingular easier and, really, that much more convenient. This month, my bill was almost double what it usually is. When I called Cingular to inquire, the rep told me it's because the statements from last month were "late" (by late she meant, "didn't go out at all"), so Cingulair just figured they'd double bill everyone this month with no advance notice, no credit for their screw up, and a 45 minute hold time to figure out the problem. Thanks Cingular! -
Review from Nish N.
Update: It's sad because I really had a good experience with their store (see below), but I have found Cingular's service and cell reception to be horrendous at best. Dropped calls, hard to hear connections, sometimes no or little reception. Very frustrating, I wish I was still on Sprint PCS.
Old Review: As some of you may know, I managed to lose my Sprint cell phone this past Friday while yelping it up with some yelpers. Not that I've been entirely disappointed by Sprint but I was always looking for a reason to switch providers, and this was the catalyst. My wife is on Cingular so that made the new provider choice relatively obvious, and then the birth of the Razr phone cinched the deal. So this Saturday I went on over to the Union Street Cingular store and was quickly helped out by one of the salespeople. The whole process of migrating over to Cingular was relatively painless (and to be fair Sprint was cool about it too when I had to check if my contract was over). I now have my new hot phone, missing some numbers (but now have Bluetooth so this won't happen again, will it?), and all in all am now ready to face this cellular nation of ours once again. -

Goes something like this...
BEFORE BUYING PHONE.
"So, you are interested in a $400 phone and a $100 a month service plan."
"Of course I can help you!"
"Please come with me."
" Boy, your hair smells good."
"You should absolutely buy from us, as we focus on customer service and support."
"Can I give you a back and foot massage?"
"Don't go to the other guys whom will ignore you after you have made your purchase."
"We're all about service."
"Here's your brand new phone."
"Did anyone tell you, you look like Brad Pitt?"
"Thanks SO MUCH for coming!"
AFTER BUYING PHONE.
"Sorry, I'm busy"
"I have NO idea."
"Sorry"
"What?"
" I have NO idea."
"Go across the street, maybe they can help you."
"Sorry, you're 21 minutes past our 30 day warranty."
"I have NO idea."
"Let me talk to my boss and call you back next week"
"Call the 1-800 number."
"Huh?"
"I have NO idea." -

Pretty similar to the other reviewers, I think this place sucks. I purchased a Crackberry here about 8 months ago and was told that as a long-term AT&T/Cingular customer I was getting a special reduced price. Not once was I ever told that this reduced price was an "upgrade" and would preclude me from getting another equivalent phone for 2 years. I'm eligible for any cheap phone they sell, but not a higher level phone...like the iPhone. The Blackberry keeps deleting my email messages and call log. Calling customer service was zero help whatsoever.
I'd love to get the new 3G iPhone, but it will cost me $399 or $499 instead of the "upgrade" price of $199 or $299. I'll be eligible sometime in 2009. Love that they are completely screwing over long-term existing customers on this. -

This AT&T store is hands down the best I've ever dealt with. There is hardly ever a line, and the phone dudes are super nice and speedy.

This store is very helpful and friendly, i popped in to get a new charger and they didn't try to push any products on me, plus I spilled my chai latte on their floor and they didn't make me feel bad, god I'm a klutz...
anyway,
I have mixed feelings with cingular though. The rollover thing is great and its actually the only provider that gets service in my small town in Connecticut. For some reason however, the service out here isn't very good. I am constantly getting dropped calls where I will have full service and then it just disappears and will not return for a minute or two, ugh, so frustrating. I used to have verizon and never had this problem but verizon is ridiculously expensive and I don't plan on going back to them but I am considering switching to a different provider at the end of my contract, I guess there's no "perfect" wireless provider out there. -

I'm sad that Nish has had a bad experience, because after having switched from my old shitty T-Mobile service, I have had nothing but great reception with Cingular.
The only other company that can come close to this kind of clarity is Verizon (but their monthly charges are ridiculously high).
My brother and I both purchased the Razr a few months ago and have been extremely happy with our new phones.
Cingular is a great value (the whole rollover minutes thing is amazing), they have a wide selection of phones and offer really solid customer service in most of their stores, online and on the phone. -

I was so horrified about how badly my friend was treated here.
Not only where they short AND rude. They sent us to another cingular store that was 7 blocks away b/c they did "cell phone repairs". After waiting for almost 20 mins at the second store only to find out THEY DONT DO repairs. The guy was nice enough to tell us we would be better off getting a NEW phone b/c the repair people charge an arm and a leg.
What bothers me the most about this whole thing... His contract is up in 3 months, qualifing him for a discounted phone with the 2 yr service agreement. 3 MONTHS and they wouldn't cut him any slack on it at all. All I gots to say about this... if you are Cingular, Call 611. Because those people arent commissioned and actually give a rats ass about you. -

God help you if you have phone service with Cingular/AT&T Wireless.
If you have a problem, you *could* call their Customer Service Number and wait on hold for 40-50 minutes. The never ending announcement loop cheerily says "seriously, even though we have kept you on the mo fo hold for 20 mintues, we really do care about you not only as a valuable customer but also as a human being...really...what, you think we are lying...thanks for your patience, chump..." has likely driven more than one person right over the edge.
You *could* also log on to their customer service chat room but the wait there is usually about an hour. This is described as "real time" customer service. Real slow time, apparently.
You "could* also go to one of their Customer Nighmare stores. There are several in the city. They are all equally bad, but the store on Union is just the worst. The employees are aloof, unwilling to help, surly and lazy. I have made the mistake of going to this particular store three times in the last year and each time was progressivly worse. Today, i stopped by to try and buy a battery for my Blackberry. Not only did they not have this very basic accessory, they were unable to call any of the other Cingular stores (one dude didn't know "how" to call another store and the other dude claimed the 6 other city stores all had busy phone lines...this one I actually believe as they were probably using their own crappy network with the fewest dropped calls in this box only)
I could go on and on and on about the terrible service this store and this compnay have, but its not even worth the time. Just steer clear if you can. -

The guys at this store are great. I first went about 6 months ago to get my mom transferred over from T-Mobile. Despite all the problems I've heard about keeping a number and switching carriers, I had no issues with hers. A month or two later, I added a new phone line for myself and switched us over to a family plan - again, a completely smooth, hassle-free operation.
Just today, I went back in to get my number changed because of a harassing caller. I put 30 minutes in the meter thinking it might take a little bit. Despite the store being semi-crowded, Victor was able to help me right when I walked in. I got my number changed, and they waived the usual change fee. I was in and out in 5 minutes.
The thing that sucks is that you cannot block a number on your cell phone... but that has nothing to do with this store. This place is great. -

I went in today to get a replacement for my phone which I'd gotten there 9 month earlier. The first thing out of someone called Oscar's mouth was that it was no longer under the 1 year warranty. Clearly, that was a canned answer or a blatant lie to give himself less work since the only interaction I ever had with this store was 9 months ago. I produced the receipt to prove it. Then his story changed.... Oh well,, we can't do that here you have to go to MArket street. The people at the market street location were great, but clearly could not understand why he would lie about the warranty expiring and why he made me go all the way across town. The only reason I give this store 2 stars is because of a young woman that works there (MArtina?) who was really courteous, professional and knowledgeable when I went in the first time. Try to get her, not Oscar.

Wonderful customer service is not dead, it is alive and well and has a name-Martina! Went into this AT&T store today to buy a phone for my Mom and Martina was so helpful, walked me around the store and helped me find the perfect phone for my Mom. I was so happy to get greeted immediately by Martina and was so put at ease by how pleasant she was and how at wonderful the shopping experience was. I even told Martina after the transaction that I was absolutely delighted by her customer service (it is so rare to get such great customer service these days). I was resistant to go into this store again because the last 2 times I was in there, I DID NOT get the same amazing service (this is my local store so I gave it another try). Martina took care of me step by step and I loved how precise and neat she was with everything, she is a true professional and a perfectionist as well (also another SF native, yay!). My Mom loves her new phone and we are both so grateful to Martina. Thanks again Martina, you are the best. I see from the other reviews too that you have made other customers happy, way to go!

I had one of the worst experiences here- if you want to get an iphone- or any other phone for that matter definitely do NOT go to this store!
I bought my iphone from Raj who was very helpful and it was a very smooth process. He told me that he would provide me with some more information about the phone, warranty, etc. when I came back to pick it up.
I went on Saturday to pick up my iphone and Martina was the person who was supposed to help us. She was HORRIBLE! She had absolutely NO customer service skills and she was completely rude and unfriendly. She also was very condescending. When I asked her about installing applecare and setting up the warranty she said that Raj had overpromised and made our expectations too high (my brother and I had both bought 2 new iphones and applecare). She then immediately went over to the manager Perry- who was just another phony salesperson (no offense to people who actually have a good sales personality). She made a huge deal over nothing and completely became defensive about what the store could provide us with.
After leaving the At& T store we went to the Apple store, where the salesman provided me with the correct information. Raj had NOT over-promised ANYTHING. He had said that he would provide me with information- basically applecare is automatic once your phone is activated and he could have explained that the insurance was from a 3rd party vendor. That is what he meant to tell me. Martina was just an idiot and blamed everything on him instead of providing me with information. She was the one that under-delivered. When I spend almost $1,000 at a store, I expect some basic knowledge and information about the product I am buying.
Because of the hassle we asked for them to do something for us, so then Perry came over (don't we all know that phone sales people can basically do whatever they want?!) and shook my hand and acted all friendly. I had noticed his rapport earlier and found it so phony. The last thing I care for is people that try to over-sell or act friendly when they really do NOT care about your interests. He said he was stuck and couldn't do anything to help us. BS!
Just do NOT give them your business- or make sure that the person who gives you the sale also sets up your phone. Martina had no reason to be nice and she wasn't. Be wary of Perry as well.
The experience completely ruined our weekend and was completely unnecessary. -

These 5 stars are just rating my experience with one of the sales representatives, Raj. Unfortunately the last few times I've been to an ATT store was in a bad mood after losing my I-phone (yet once again!). And this time it was not lost but stolen in a bar during Valentine's night, so I was in a special bad mood. I first considered to getting a second hand phone in the wireless store around the corner which could have saved me a few bucks, but instead I decided to check if I could qualify for an upgrade.... so walked into the ATT store and was lucky enough to have Raj assist me. He was so professional, nice, charming and helpful that I couldn't help but expending a little bit more than I had planned and get the brand new I-phone 4S. I could have gotten my old 3G in the second hand store but I'm now sooo happy with my brand new phone, its amazingly fast and overall I'm super happy with the experience.... I'd never consider going to another ATT store in San Francisco.

I spent a good three hours in that store yesterday evening, looking at new phones since our Blackberry ones went kaput after a good three years of usage. Martina was the person who helped us, but since it was the end of the day for them, and they were closing the store, three other people assisted us in purchasing our new phones (I got the HTC Sense).
The five stars, which seems to be inconsistent with many other reviewers, is for Martina's excellent service and the other staff's efforts to help her out as well. Martina was very knowledgeable and did not hesitate to say that she did not know something and proceeded immediately to find the answer from someone who did.
Does AT&T suck in general? Hell yes. But this review is not for the carrier in general, but for this particular store and the people who work there. IF you decide to go with AT&T, then I most highly recommend going to these people to get candid and thorough advice on what phone best fits your needs. -

2 for 1
Went in to look at some phones last weekend. I was in the market for a new on as my old one was being held together with tape. My contract was over w/ VZ and I wanted something with a GSM card. The CSR (Ed - he was good) there was a 2 for one deal on the phone so I jumped, but since I did the deal with a friend he had to return his new VZ phone so he could get out of his contract. So Ed couldn't do it. We got back to the store 15 min before it closed and we got the assistant manager Samuel. He did his job, but the customer service wasn't there. Also, he didn't know why our numbers weren't porting and kept on making mistakes processing our orders so I was there till 8:20. So we just said give us a 415 number and we'll take care of it later. Once he got the paper work he threw (yes he tossed the new contracts in front of me instead of handing them to me) and got the !@$% out of there.
I had to call and speak to a CSR to find out my issue, but they couldn't fix it due to the time zone diff and the east market was closed. I walked into the Cingular store on Monday @ Freemont & Market and the CSR Jeff helped me. He knew what he was doing and go me out of there in 20 min.
The Blackberry Pearl rocks! Clarity is alright, but the pda functionality is great. I wish I had one sooner.
Beware of the untrained ASSistant Manager.

I walked in here to buy a new phone because my old phone suffered a fatal accident. I realized the accident was my fault and I was going to have to suck it up to buy a new phone. I had cash in hand, credit card in hand, whatever was needed... but NO ONE WOULD HELP ME. No one. So I helped myself, found the phone I wanted and waved at the salespeople. Finally one guy (jackass) mentioned that he would be with me shortly as he disappeared in a back room. Then someone else came in and was helped immediately. I'm 5'8" tall, did you somehow look over me??? So I walked out and went to Apple where I got a phone in 2 minutes. Too bad I still am a customer of this disastrous company.

Can suck my balls. I don't even have the physical kind, but that's how bad they are! Customer service.... oh man. Unlike my review of Comcast Cable (http://www.yelp.com/bi...),
I will try to keep this review to have a PG-13 rating.
Dear Cingular,
I know how to read my bill. I know how to add. I know how to use a calculator too. Shared minutes only covers unlimited nights/weekends and Unlimited mobile-to-mobile minutes. They do not count against my allotted monthly rate plan minutes. So tell me, why am I being charged for "overage fees" of 40 cents/minute on the FIRST DAY of my billing cycle? Why do your customer service reps insist on going through my call details to add, line-by-line, the charges on each phone call? There is a nice little table that summarizes the total minutes we've used, and the breakdown of the type of minutes that they are. We, my family, only used 740 minutes. According to our rate plan, we have an allowance of 1400 for that month. 740 is less than 1400, therefore, we should have 660 minutes for rollover. Why, then, were those 740 minutes charged as overage? That is an extra $296, sans taxes, on my bill. This is the second month that this has happened. My mother almost had a myocardial infarction when she saw the bill. I was becoming hypertensive for every minute that passed when I was on the phone with your incompetent customer service rep.... and why was I being placed on hold at least 10 times every time I educate the CSR on how to read the bill? And why did this phone call last 1:24:06? And why do I have to call again to make sure all I said was written down on my account--a phone call that lasted another 36:20? And why ... having a cellphone should not cause me this much grief.
Fuck you Cingular! -

Crappy, Useless staff that has no customer service skills unless you are buying something. Plus they screwed up my original installation and it took 20 calls and four months to fix.
