I was shocked (for some niave reason) to come home the other day and find a mountain of phone books from AT&T, formerly SBC, formerly PacBell, piled up outside the gate to my building yesterday. Three things came to mind: 1. My parter and I are not, and I believe many of my neighbors are not, ATT/sbc/whatever customers. We have cable phone service. 2. Who still uses phone books, for god's sake, and 3. What a colossal waste!
I can not believe in this day and age, when business are FINALLY starting to show an interest in being environmentally responsible that this company would continue to produce (I'm estimating) hundreds of thousands of pounds of paper that most people are going to toss out or put on a shelf to collect dust. Every year, unsolicited. Hopefully you recycle your old phone books, but still... there is a huge waste of energy that goes into producing them, and delivering them. And the cost probably drives up the cost of their services.
So, if you are an AT&T customer - they won't let you email them via their website or navigate their phone tree unless you are - please consider contacting them and voicing your concern about this horribly irresponsible and antiquated practice.
