5 reviews for AT & T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Golf Tournament
This event is a lot of fun! My wife and I are not super big golf fans, but we enjoy driving down to Carmel to see the tournament.
The big key is to get there early on whatever day you go...especially if the day is sunny...or at leas more sun that rain as of this year.
If possible, go on the Thursday or Friday to get the most up close and personal experience....but if you can't get off work, go on that Saturday.
Have gone several times before, my big tips to go on a Saturday are...
1. Park at the CSU Monterey campus and take the shuttle over to Pebble Beach...which will be where most of the A list celebs and pro golfers will be. Plan to be at Pebble by 8:00-8:30am if possible.
2. Go to the putting green in front of the lodge shops to get a closer glimpse of the celebs/pros putting before they tee off that morning. You may be able to get autographs too
3. Check the pairing schedule that morning and find a hole that is 1 or 2 ahead of the string of players you'd like to see. Find a grassy spot to stand or sit...and let your favorite players play through each green. We recommend camping at the 7th or 13th hole greens. Both holes, and especially the 7th are famous...or notorious.
4. If you find a player you like, I like Bill Murray, follow him a few holes...or just stay put at a hole until the last player on your favorite list plays through...and then go get lunch at one of the food tents.
5. Be sure to get on the shuttle back to CSU Monterey by 4:00pm...before the crowds start leaving after the final foursomes finish their last hole. You will most likely be burnt out of golf much earlier though :-).
The security teams say no cell phones or pics...but do not enforce the rule at any of the check points. The guards simply ask "do you have a cell phone?" Just say "no" and keep your phone in your pocket...BUT PLEASE make sure it's on silent for obvious reasons.
Make the effort to go at least one year...if not for the golf for the scenery and the chance to walk one of the world's best courses.
The first time I was invited to go I couldn't because I had to play in a tennis tournament somewhere up in Nor Cal. I was probably 15. The next day my friends brought photos that they took with Bill Murray. I was not too happy. Apparently he grabbed my friends camera and took one of those close up face shots since he himself took the photo with my friends.
My sister attended school which is located near the tournament to a point where she literally almost rubbed elbows with Samuel L. Jackson a few years back. Lucky!
I don't get star struck but I better run into Kelly Slater the next time the pro-am crew come into town.
Oh I forgot, I did get a photo with Jack Nicklaus when I was about 2 or 3 during the tourney but back then it was called the Bing Crosby Pro Am.

Ok... for those of you know me, this review is marking one of the most memorable days in my lifetime. I would save it for a special number like 150 or 200, but I can't wait that long.
So... are you all ready for the big news!?!?!?
February 9, 2008, I Ali "Gato" R. met the love of my life, Chris O'Donnell. *sssssiiiiiigggghhhhhhhhhh*
It was the MOST AMAZING experience of my life. He even took his shirt off in front of me (GASP!)!!!! He signed an autograph for me and told me I had a nice pen. (I'm gonna take that as code for, I love you and want to marry you and stare into your eyes forever). I almost started crying, I almost threw up, I almost fainted. But I maintained composure, I followed him diligently through the course (blisters, sunburn and all). He knew I was watching him and he waved at me once and smiled at me multiple times. He also laughed when I told Luke Wilson (in his group) that I didn't want his autograph and then laughed again when I ignored Luke when he commented on the weather when we were walking to the next hole. Umm, Luke, sorry, Chris is my man, not you!
Chris - If you read this review, please don't freak out. I'm not a stalker. I just love you. A lot.
I am DEFINITELY going back next year and staying the whole week. You can get pictures during the practice rounds!!! I would absolutely FREAK OUT if I could have a picture with him. I would frame it and put it on my desk and stare at it M-F from 9-6.
This tournament has made my life complete.
Thank you.

I can now check off another item on my list of things to do before I die.

Simply AWESOME!
My very first time to walk the famous Pebble Beach GC, let alone, stalk, errr follow the celebrities and pro golfers at this year's AT&T Pro/Am tournament (Final Round)! It was the most perfect weather for golf along the Monterey coast. In years past, this event had horrible rain storms and windy conditions. NOT this year!
Highlights:
*Having Kevin Costner pose for a photo with my girlfriend and NOT getting tossed out for sneaking in my digital camera! (See photo)
*Kevin Costner, Michael Bolton w/GF Nicolette Sheridan, Clint Eastwood, ex-49er Harris Barton, SF Mayor Gavin Newson.......brushes with fame.
*4 COMP'd passes and parking from my golf buddy Yann!!! U da Man!
*Gorgeous blue waters and perfectly manicured fairways & greens
*The free AT&T swing analyzer and online coaching tent
*8 straight hours of golf bliss with 3 of my best friends
*Exercise walking up, down ,and around the entire GC
*Site chosen for the 2010 US OPEN
*First Class event, facilities, and organization
*Gracious and friendly people
Low lights:
*No Tiger Woods (opted out because of past year's crazy crowds, slow play, small pay check, and long days)
*Security staff having no clue where anything was or who's in charge
*Port-A-Poddies tilting towards the edge of the cliffs
* "Dude, Where's My Car"?...Shuttles ending way too early
*NO corporate tent access or swag- Bummer!
*Gift shop: $40 Logo t-shirts
Tips:
*Bring a backpack to carry your layers of clothing, sunblock, snacks & water
*Bring a camera/phone, but be selective on taking your shots. It's not allowed, and marshals will seize them from you.
*Sharpie pens for autographs and something for the celebs & pros to sign (Golf ball, photo, hat, or ticket)
*Comfy walking/hiking shoes: You will walk for miles!!!
* Have patience, a positive attitude and enjoy the whole experience!!!
Overall for us, an excellent time out! What a great location to show off California's breath taking views and lifestyle! Fore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
