I thought the prices were reasonable and the food was good too! I recommend the Zenbu Roll! The staff is friendly and really helpful as well.

I'm not usually a stickler for service, but this restaurant's service was noticeably poor. This is of course coming from someone who is accustomed to Chinese restaurants notorious for bad customer service. After walking into the restaurant (which I admit was swamped that night), I had to actively approach a waiter to order my food AND I had to walk up to grab my own menus. My experience aside, another pair of girls sitting near us waited an hour for their food to come, and it only finally came after they repeatedly bothered the waiter about their food.
Now, I would have looked over this entirely had the food been good. But it was not. I was extremely disappointed with my Dragon roll, as the fish did not taste fresh at all, and my friends who got the chicken teriyaki complained that it was overcooked. The salad that came with the bento box looked simply inedible, and nobody in our group even touched it. The overall consensus of our group (who only came here because Pizza Rock was swamped) was that the food was quite poor, and we would probably not come here again. -

This place is ok in my book. Beggars can't be choosers when seeking lunch in downtown Sac, especially for sushi. The Unaten roll was bland....just shrimp tempura with unage and teriyaki sauce. The Hot One was interesting. I like that it was baked in the oven and came out hot. However, there was just a bit too much mayo goop on top. It was a tasty roll. If you ask for extra ginger with your to go order, make sure they give you extra. I asked but when I got back to my desk I didn't get any. Half way through each roll I was out of ginger. Lame!

I've only been here once when I went for lunch and ordered a bento box. It wasn't very good. The chicken was way too dry, which made it a chore to eat.
Their lunch specials are around 7 dollars, which is alright. Nothing really special to say about this place. -
Review from Nina H.
My go to place for teriyaki chicken and sesame chicken. Both are really good. One tastes basically like the fried version of the other. It's a nice light tempura batter that's used. The sauce is not as sweet as most places, which I like a lot. It's a bit more savory than sweet actually. You also have the option of steamed broccoli instead of salad. I always get the broccoli, and it's steamed perfectly with a nice crisp still in the broccoli. Somehow eating the broccoli makes me feel like I am eating a well balanced meal. They also have the option of brown rice, which I never get as their white rice is actually very good. I'm a little picky about the rice I eat.
I've also gotten a few of their sushi rolls, and they are good. Pretty basic and nothing special though.
Overall a good, affordable, fast place to go for lunch in downtown. -

I had dinner with a friend here and regularly come for lunch.
The sushi is okay... good for the price, but the teriyaki bowls are really what I go there for. -

Ugh. Horrible food.
Fish was stale.
They used long grain rice instead of short grain rice on their sushi! What kind of amateur does that??
Totally unauthentic, uninspired wannabe Japanese food. -

Went here for lunch today and the food was good as well as the price. I would recommend it if your looking for somewhere for sushi/Japanese food.

I have only eaten here at lunch time. They have inexpensive lunch specials that alternate between sesame chicken and teriyaki chicken, or between two different kinds of sushi rolls. I get a special to go at least once a week.
The staff is friendly, and make a point of remembering my name, The food is not spectacular, and certainly not authentic (I mean, they put teriyaki sauce on shrimp tempura!). However, the prices are fair, and the food is fine for a quick lunch. -

I really like this place. I mean ya, I wish it was a little bit larger - but the food is sooo yummy and they have quick service on furlow fridays! :)
Anyways - The Low-Carb Plate is quick and yummy... the broccoli is cooked to perfection. (I know it may sound strange to talk about broccoli that way - but it's sooo good.) Not 100% sure the Low-Carb Plate is really that healthy... but I can vouch for the taste! -

When nothing else was really open in dtown Sac, we came here in starvation mode after a long day of traveling. My friends both had the teriyaki chicken platter and I tried the sesame chicken. Pretty decent food, pretty decently priced.

We dropped in here after being told there'd be a 1 hr and 45 min wait at Pizza Rock, just to be seated. It's maybe 9:30p and I overhear the waitress tell the table behind us they're out of spicy tuna. Even though, I really like spicy tuna, it's not a deal breaker. Well, she comes to our table and basically tells us that they're out of most of everything on the menu, except maybe 8 rolls. She said they were really busy during the day and ran out of everything. I decide that I'm just going to get miso soup and a soda, since the menu is so limited and get some grub elsewhere My friends get teriyaki bent boxes. They looked appetizing, but that wasn't what I was in the mood for. The staff was very friendly and they validate for the parking garage. I'd like to check this place out again, but I'll probably call ahead first to see if they have a fully stocked menu.

Asuka is the most convenient sushi-spot to where I work; as such, I've eaten there many times and most likely will continue to do so. It's primary limitation is it's size (or lack thereof); it's really only suited for parties of two. For example, just last week my office went out to eat together and some asked about Asuka as we walked by, but with six people there was no chance of that working.
Back to today's lunch: a complementary bowl of Miso soup is always welcome, but especially on a cool Fall day. My friend & I split a T&T roll and a Rainbow roll. The T&T (spicy tuna w/ spicy mayo, masago, etc) was a great choice - nice amount of spice and a good texture. I always like Rainbow rolls because you get 4-5 kinds of fish, but unfortunately the tuna on this one was a bit mushy in texture - not as bright & fresh tasting as I would like.
The service here is usually good; today however, our waitress was either new or, possibly, stoned. She wasn't able to answer a couple basic questions I had about the menu, and didn't know what a Caterpillar roll was (as I was looking for something similar). She certainly didn't make it a bad experience overall, but was not as sharp as other servers I've had there.
Overall, though, Asuka is consistently decent, and when you're in the mood for sushi and only have an hour for lunch, that works. -

I came here on a Saturday night for a quick bite to eat before seeing a flick at the Crest.
I had the bento box. It was good for the price. Crisp veggies, tender chicken, delicious rice. Sushi was fresh.
My only complaint was that they were out of white rice and so I had brown.
Staff was very polite and friendly as you'd expect from a japanese restaurant.
I had some of my friends tempura veggies, and it was quite delicious as well.
Overall, its a good place for a quick, inexpensive japanese style meal. -

I used to like this place. Last night i had terrible service and horrible food.
I'm not sure what happened, i can only guess that they fired thier hostess/waitress or someone quit. The cooks were doing everything. It was busy being there was a great show at the Crest, but still, all things considered, here goes...
ordered Salmon Teriyaki $7.95
i got:
Miso soup - a little cold, which is kinda gross.
Salad- asked for light Seseme dressing, got mayonaise with sesame seeds in it.- really gross and not light at all. I dind't even it eat it because i hate mayo and it just looked wrong.
salmon- healthy sized portion- not too big or small, bit over-cooked and very salty.
rice- huge mound, also strangley salty
teriyaki sauce was so salty i think it's what overwhelmed everything. It took about 10 minutes (and yes, i looked at my watch) to get a glass of water.
anyhoo- maybe wednesday is just not the night to go. i have been here in the past and enjoyed it. not the best but great for the price and the usually speedy service. although i noticed some of the formerly cheaper items have gone up. The cucumber salad that was $3.50 last time i was there is now $4.95. and a roll of kapa maki is about $6. used to be about $4.
i don't write reviews unless i was truly disapointed or amazed. Maybe i'll try it again in month or so when they have enough employees to do the cover the jobs and focus on thier quality of food and service.
i do have to say that everything did seem fresh, even the fish. i wish i could taste it through the salt. -

as with my capitol lunch tour when i forget to pack i wanted not a sandwich and here was asuka was calling to me
i had the chicken teriyaki lunch and i opted for the vegetables over the salad. It was a good meal a great balance of rice and chicken...i hate places where i have too much rice or too much meat.
the meat was juicy and the sauce pretty good, but overall i dock for presentation, nothing impressive. Just good food, and well a deserving lunch place -

Average sushi. The rolls are slathered in sauce so determining freshness is tricky. On the positive side, service is fast.

The sushi's hit and miss, phoning for a pick up order is a crapshoot as only one of the employees is capable of understanding what you're telling them; it's a tad bit pricey, even for sushi.

Review from Reina M.
it's not cheap, especially for a k street lunchtime restaurant, and there are no lunch specials. but it's an edible, craving-satisfying sushi joint.
this place is the former taiko sushi. i never went to taiko so i can't compare as to food quality, price or service. service here wasn't bad, but like i said, it was a bit expensive for lunch, especially considering the quality and location. but overall, not bad.
i had the chirashi sushi for $16.95. the rice is not very good, but most places' aren't. the toppings were on the generous side - maguro, saba, hamachi, ika, seaweed salad, tobiko, tamago, shiro maguro, seared ahi, tai, sake...i may be missing 1 or 2. some pieces were still only somewhat thawed tho. my friend and i shared the catalina roll, which is sake, crab salad, cucumber, lemons and sesame chili oil ($9.95). the rice portion was huge (and not tasty). the pieces of sake were thin, but ok tasting. my friend had the bento box with sesame chicken ($8.49), that came with salad, soup, rice and 4 pieces of ca roll.
we rolled in at about 1130am on thursday, and the place was virtually empty. by the time we left around 1240, the place was packed.
they also have happy hour m-f 2-5pm, at which time the entire menu is 10% off. -

I like sushi, but I'm not a huge fan so I don't really go out that often just for it. My sister and I decided to go out for lunch today and she came up with the idea of sushi and had been to Asuka in the past, so this was the place. She forgot where it was exactly, but knew it was K St so we parked at the garage and went for a walk. It's right next to The Crest, which is one of my favorite places. Anyway, once we got there some time after 12:30, it was pretty packed already with only one table left. Lucky us, I ordered the T&T and my sister The Dragon roll. I never knew sushi can fill you up this much, but it did. It was about $10-11 per roll, I'm not really sure if that's a good deal or not, but to me it may be a little over-priced? I don't know. The service was quick and nice though, they don't validate parking, but they do have a $5 discount for parking if you ask.

This place was one I went twice in a day when I was in Sacramento for another Youth & Government conference. This is a small place with good stuff, but it's somewhat pricey for what it's worth. Service was good both when it was busy and when it was slow and everyone was very nice. I don't think they were prepared for the 2000+ people coming in, though, as our second-to-last night there they ran out of a lot of ingredients. Oh well, hopefully we helped out their books for a little bit.

I was downtown for a big convention, and I was wandering the streets near the Hyatt Hotel, and I ran into this place as I was looking for the Blimpie's that I knew was in that general area. So, I wandered in to give it a try. They had one roll that was on special, and then they had a second special: All specialty rolls were $7.95 between 5-9 M-F. So, I got a spicy roll and their special, which was a Shrimp Lovers roll. Both were very good. Their regular dishes are at a very reasonable price, too...

Very small restaurant, sushi + sesami chicken is good but the prices are high unless you get the daily special or visit during happy hour. I get take about about 3 times a month, quick and friendly service. Always busy during lunch. This is the only good sushi place around the Capitol for the $$. Mukuni is close too but the prices are too high.

Walked by it on K street and decided to drop by with a few colleagues. Tasty rolls and sushi. I was not disappointed. Give it a try if you're in the area.
