I tend to not go to Astoria Brewhouse late on weekend nights, but I do go before 9ish and really love to be there on the weekend days into the evenings. I think time of day might really matter, judging by some of the other reviews.

I always see the same staff they're and they're really nice/funny/cool. If you're there for a while they'll do a buy-back for you, judging by my last credit card receipt. The beer selection is very good, and I've had the wings, which are also surprisingly good. Prices, meh, could bit a tad bit cheaper. I think they're standard for Manhattan and for what I guess Astoria is becoming.

Margot G. and I were looking for a new place to try out in the neighborhood, and Astoria Brewhouse ended up being our pick. Conveniently located right off the 30th Ave. stop on the N/Q line, I met up with her and took my seat at the bar. The beer selection (for a place that calls itself a "brewhouse") is okay, but certainly not the best I've seen. It's pretty stacked with the generic beers you can find almost anywhere with a few micro's sprinkled in there. Our plan was to stay for one or two (famous last words, right?), but ended up here for a few hours, so take that as a sign that this bar is good enough to make a night of it.

We ordered the chicken tenders off the appetizer menu along with a couple of beers, and boy were we surprised at the size of the chicken tenders plate. This was more than enough for the two of us when were just expecting an appetizer. The tenders were pretty standard pub fare (decent, but not fantastic...which seems to be the theme of this review).

The bartenders bought Margot G. back a beer, which was a nice touch, and they were attentive even when we were asking for something boring like a glass of water. Be forewarned that there are "select" beers that qualify for the happy hour prices, and instead of displaying what those beers are you must either guess which ones they are or ask the bartender/server which beers are going for the $3 happy hour price (between 4pm and 7pm on weeknights).

I wouldn't be opposed to coming back here, but it's certainly not my favorite bar in the neighborhood.

This spot is super convenient to my friend's new place but on its own, it's nothing special.  It's not awful either and hence the 3 stars.

I like their draft selection.  I was pleasantly surprised to see the variety of beers they had for a place that we just happened upon.  My buddy and I got off the Q and we used Siri to find us the nearest bar.  Astoria brewhouse came up.

Karaoke began around 11 I think.  I ended up singing a song and basically clearing out the bar.  The karaoke guy does have a large amount of songs but beware that most people here are singing the classic stuff that everyone drunk knows the words to.  I found out that unfortunately, that part of Astoria is not familiar with Rise Against.

I didn't try any food or look at the menu.  I'm quite sure you can do worse in the area so it's worth popping into.  I'm sure I'll be back here at some point.

I don't know what happened to this place. It used to have really good service and I used to really enjoy going here.

Notice how all those comments are all past tense.

In the past couple of months the service has been fucking awful. MY GF and I just left after waiting an hour for a food order. Tables seated after us got their food way before us and the people sitting near us even asked us how long we were waiting for and apologized for getting their food before us.

When people around you know you've been screwed, that's bad.

When I told the waiter I wanted to pay for my drinks and just leave he threw me major attitude and asked me if I wanted a manager. What the fuck am I going to do with a manager? What the fuck is the manager going to do? Make excuses?

In summation, go elsewhere. Astoria Brewhouse has location going for it and nothing else. Not anymore. There are better places not much further away like Rapture, Sweet Afton or Broadway Station.

*Edited to remove excessive insults. I can say the service was bad without being petty.

My original review of this joint dates back 3 years, when it was still Indigo and under different ownership which means now - UPDATE timeeeeeeeeee.

AB is the perfect neighborhood pub, in my book. Decent food, wall to wall flat screen HD TV's and (most importantly) a pretty sweet beer selection. Every season they switch it up and the other night when I stopped in, they had the UFO Pumpkin Ale which was insanely good, the Coney Island Freaktoberfest lager (which had a blood red hue to it and honestly freaked me the fuck out every time the bartender poured some haha) and various other local and foreign craft beers. This place is perfect for me cause I can eat dinner at home with my gf, throw on whatever, walk the 2 blocks, sit down, chill and drink quality beers/mixed drinks in pleasant setting. Ended up here on a Friday for karaoke night too, had a blast as well.

Astoria has a ton of pretentious (and usually European owned) bars/lounges, but AB is super laid back and has one the better vibes I've witnessed in Astoria.

I've been to this place several times now because it is close to my apartment.  The first few times I didn't love it, it seemed like a bit of a bro bar.  But I liked the beer on tap, specials offered, and friendly staff-- and since it was super convenient to get to I kept going back.  I recently went for lunch on a Sunday, which was OK and reasonably priced.  The last time I was there was for Friday night karaoke, and I had a lot of fun but probably only because I was drunk enough not to mind really really horrible singing.  So I still think of Astoria Brewhouse as a bro bar, but a fun one.

I was making my brunch list and realized I have yet to review Astoria Brewhouse.  Not sure how that's possible.

Been here many times for brunch, dinner, drinks.  Brunch is such a great deal.  About $17 for a great meal and it's AYCD!  The garden out back is adorable -- both in the warm and cold months, thanks to the clear covering.

I've never had a dinner meal that I would go back for, but the drinks are good and reasonably priced.

Service is always friendly and it has such a laid back, welcoming vibe -- as laid back as a sports bar, but nicer and not as in your face.  Can't go wrong bringing your friends, significant other or mother.

All in all it's a very good pub, food is good (for bar food), and depending on what waiter/waitress you get the service can be good or lacking. This place does tend to get crowded on the weekends which really throws off the attentiveness of all the bartenders and staff. On the weekdays its a really good place to hang, grab some food, and enjoy the wall to wall TV with your friends. Always a good crowd, and its never gotten out of control all the times that I've been there

It's a nice place and has tons of flat panel TVs all over the place for watching sports, especially great for football lovers. Very laid back, but service is a little slow.

I came here for the beer, of course! But there wasn't that many selections to choose from.

There were a number of times the beer I requested was no longer available!?! I really wanted to try Troegs "Mad Elf" Ale. Apparently, it tastes just like Christmas! Now, I'll never know what Christmas tastes like...

In addition, the Sierra Nevada and Left Hand Milk Stout was also out...

The beers I ended up getting:

    - Arrogant Bastard: strong, dark, bitter, and oh-so very arrogant!

    - Shock Top: light, hazy orange color, very citrusy (tastes good with oranges), and easy to drink

    - Lagunitas IPA:  light amber, hoppy, fruity & citrusy, and tad bitter at certain points

OK I need to follow up my previous review on this place. I have desperately wanted Astoria Brewhouse to be my Pub Grub spot to watch Football, eat wings and drink beers. It simply can not fit this bill at all.... Drinks are ok, food sucks and way over priced. Its monday night football with a New York team playing and you have one bartender, one waitress, and one bus boy?!

I loved the Brewhouse the first time I went in.  It was right before Christmas and they were playing an Eagles game (bf is an Eagles fan) so we decided to go.  I met him there and he informed me that Brooklyn Lagers were on special, $4 or something, but I immediately shrugged that off and went for the MAD ELF!  Mad Elf is tough to find in NY, and to have it on tap down the block from my apartment? Yes please!  I was in love =)

I have gone back multiple times, for an after work drink, a night out w/buddies, late night after being out in Manhattan and for Brunch.  The decor is really cozy and comforting, the staff is mostly friendly, and the food is pretty good for bar food.  The beers on tap change seasonally which I love and they have karaoke, comedy, and music some nights.  It's a nice neighborhood hangout, I recommend stopping in!

Food is Average - typical bar food. Everything else about this place is great... Sports on TV, outdoor seating in back, great beer on tap. EXCEPT, they play TERRIBLE music at the loudest decibel possible.  Wanna go here for drinks and conversation?  Forget it.  Whoever is in charge of picking that music should be fired, or resign and leave in shame.

It's a spacious and nice space.  The drinks are a trifle expensive for Astoria, and I have never had a buy back here.  The comedy night on Wed is pretty fun.  They would be better served if they could hold on to staff members for more than a couple weeks.  It seems they like to hire only cute girls, many of whom can't bartend worth a damn.  I'd rather have the fun middle aged bartenders next door at McCaffery and Burke, who are old school and know how to build and keep a following.  I  work in the industry, so maybe I am jaded.

The owners of Brewhouse own a few places in the area, and there isn't much difference in them.  There are many other places where I am treated better and would rather spend my money in Astoria.

This restaurant has pretty good food.

    Main problems:

Atmosphere is loud if you're not in the back covered patio and that usually is the first to fill.

Service is slow.  I'm not talking the waitstaff as they do their job.  I'm referring to how long the food takes to come to your table.  When it takes 25 minutes for medium-cooked burgers and french fries to come to your table at a brew pub, something is wrong in the kitchen.  I have even ordered to-go dessert, and that took FIFTEEN MINUTES.  Either they're severely understaffed in their basement kitchen or they have some lazy ass staff.

For the price and the atmosphere, it's not bad.  But the length of service each time I have been here has made me stop going.

The food is the worst part. seriously. I ordered a bbq chicken salad and they gave me like 40 chicken strips pieces that were steaming hot over this bed of greens that were soggy and wilted by the chicken. Ew, it was so gross.

This place is trying so hard to fill itself with gimmicky things like karaoke and comedy nights that it's forgetting to pay attention to the food and the beer.

There is no way they keep their lines clean and fresh with that many beets on tap; unless everyone every night is drinking a keg clean of everything they offer. Be prepared for SKUNKY BEER.

Please Astoria Brewhouse, revamp your menu, kick your head chef to the curb, focus your brews, and give us something positive!

Decided to check this place out a few weeks ago. Met up with a couple of friends for the sake of meeting up and shooting the breeze while hoisting a few pints. There really aren't too many better reasons to get together in my book. The fact that this place is called a brewhouse lead my to believe they would have a ton of beers. There were the average amount of beers, but the selection was excellent. The three of us sat at the bar and had a great time. Let's face it, there are a billion bars that you can go to in NYC, and I will come back to this bar mainly because of the service. If I remember correctly our bartender's name was something like Dominique? Maybe, I am bad with names. Anyway, she was super sweet and very patient. My buddy Dave can be a little trying on bar staff, and she was a total pro. I will definitely head back there ASAP.

Indigo is the type of bar where if you lived in Astoria it could easily become 4 or 5 stars. It'll be your neighboring watering hole and with a space as gorgeous as it is you might just give up the idea of ever setting foot in Manhattan ever again. For me, hopping state lines and skipping over the City and into Queens, it was just alright.

I came for a birthday celebration and some in public karaoke. For the first time in my life I decided to not sing. The drunk boys screaming, "I love vag- - - !' kind of scared me and there were no song title books at all. Usually you thumb through the bible of karaoke, get a little drunk and work up your nerves to belt out a tune. At Indigo, you gotta keep going up to the dj and ask, "Do you have this song? Do you have this song?" He has all the basics I suppose and a lot of obscure tunes you wonder why anyone would choose those songs to karaoke but to each its own. The crowd is pretty good support wise sans the offensive cat callers.

The crowd is also on the older side which is nice. It's a local feel and after awhile you start to forget that you are not in the city. The bar is standard and you don't have to fight your way through just to get a drink. Oh, and if you do sing, you get a free shot ticket. Pretty good deal considering there is no cover and no fee to sing.

Indigo is right off of the 30th Ave subway stop. Makes nice for door to door commutes and easy getaways.

Hmmm. Let me see, I don't know if my favorite experience here was when I ordered egg whites and was served regular eggs, and the waitress told me that she doesn't think they do egg whites (which they do), or maybe it was the time the same waitress tried to convince me that the potato bread I was being served was indeed the whole wheat bread that I had ordered. or....There are so many more to choose from, I just can't!

If you get my order wrong, fine! But if you get it wrong everytime and try to get me to eat it how it came out because you're lazy, then there's a problem.

I heard rave reviews of this place - great food, delicious drinks...you know, all that great restaurant jazz you normally hear.

Well, the food was tasty. In fact, I was in an orgasmic food coma for a few hours following.

But, the girl that was on shift for us...I think she said it was her first day or something. That's cool. She got a little pass. But she couldn't make a margarita at all. In fact, it was all tequila. I mean, I almost died. And my mojito...it was tiny. That made me so sad.

She did apologize for the drink problem, and that's cool.

But I still can only give you 4-stars. Cause, you know...I'm a lush...and that's important to me...

He will be joining you for dinner tonight.

    Do you mind?

This place would be a constant return for me if it wasnt for the viewing of the monstrosity that was that bug on the wall. I know most places have bugs but this was obscene.

If you can get past that, this place is pretty quaint, normal priced drinks. The food is actually really good for the 2 brunches here I have been too and they do offer 2 free morning cocktails as specials.

    "No, thanks...I'll pass."

Should have said that instead of wasting time, money and effort on going to Indigo.
On a Thursday night around 8:30, you would expect to be able to get into a bar, get your beer, get your burger and be on your way with little to no hiccups.
Wrong...if you are going to Indigo.
The "service" was sloppy and very slow. I never did get some things that I asked for. The burger was overcooked (funny since I asked for it Medium and it was basically BLACK all the way through) and the fries were cold...the beer was not. I would have tried a second beer to see if it was just a problem with the first one...if I had gotten a hold of my waiter to ask him. It was like pulling teeth to get the check.

I wouldn't ever go back to this place...

I think this place is pretty generic. Which is not to say good or bad, but it didn't really leave a lasting impression. Went there for a friend's birthday. Had the chicken & mushroom quesadilla as a snack and was neither impressed or dismayed; I was glad I ate it, so that's something. They do have a decent selection of beer at good prices as we were able to get a $13 pitcher of Bud Lite and a $5 or $6 Blue Moon pint. Sports on the flat-screens. Nice enough people and staff. There's a patio out back too, but it was too hot to be out there!

And there was kareoke. The guy running it didn't have a book to choose from so you had to ask him about songs specifically, which is kind of annoying if you're unsure. (I default to "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones with the requisite Carlton Dance.) However you get a free, if minuscule, shot for singing, which I gave to the birthday girl. My favorite singers? The guy with the long blond hair in a ponytail who sang "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi whose girlfriend came up to him and swooned the moment he took his hair down during the solo! The other guy who sang "What is Love?" by Haddaway complete with Butabi Brothers head bopping and his own echo effect at the end of the song. Only in Queens!

I'll admit that when I first came here for brunch, I was a little weary.  I saw the menu and saw the price of 12.95 for brunch. I noticed that the burger did not say if it came with french fries while other dishes did.  I sighed.  I thought I might get ripped off.  I ordered the burger anyways.  It finally came - it was rather small.  But next to it was a pile of french fries that makes the Atlantic look like a puddle.

This is how brunch should be.

Indigo is one of those lovely upscale bars covered in plasma tvs, people drinking at 11am, and a restaurant area that's suppose to just push booze.  It also has a large garden area in the back that is housed in a greenhouse - this allows it to be opened during the warmer days and also open during the colder months.  The greenhouse also has a large fireplace. My girlfriend and I wondered if it was actually operational because, if it was, it wasn't obvious where the smoke would go since the fireplace's flute ended 5 feet from the ceiling.

My girlfriend order Eggs Benedict which I quickly picked at to her annoyance.  I ordered the above burger with cheddar.  It was well cooked, seasoned, and all around awesome.  The two drink deal was great. It's the only place that I know that will put beer on the brunch menu.  And since the bar is run by Europeans, you're allowed to sit and linger for hours.

The only negative thing of thing is that the place is not THAT baby friendly (ie. no changing tables in the bathrooms or high chairs).  There is plenty of stroller space though.  So if you have a baby (or are a giant baby), keep that in mind.

I have been to the Zoo and in the insect exhibits, but never in my life have I EVER seen a bigger cockroach than I have inside this establishment. Hubby and I went for some buffalo wings and burgers, the perfect coronary combination. I was sitting in the booth seat, which for those of you unfamiliar with etiquette, is the proper seat for the female to be sitting in at a restaurant. Anyhoo, I noticed Hubby staring at what I thought was the top of my head. After I five minutes, I finally get annoyed with him and snap "WHAT are you looking at" and he says

"Don't  turn around" (insert Ace of Base here)

What do I do? Turn around, duh. And behind me was a cockroach climbing up the wall that was the size of a coaster. In fact, I'm surprised this cockroach wasn't surfing up the wall on said coaster. Needless to say, we will not be back no matter how cute the outside garden is during the summer or how much I like TWO drinks included in my Sunday brunch. Somebody call the health inspector, STAT! I realize that bugs exist in society, but climbing up the wall behind  my pretty little head? Spare me!

Good menu and great range of beer makes it perfect for dinner in the week. Brunch is decent, but the service is diabolical and wait staff is never the same.

The garlic roast chicken is a thing of legend.

4 stars for drinks, beer selection, friendly staff and the quality off the pint pour.  1 star on food.

As a bar its good and local.  If you stick to the well made drinks and friendly service you will do well.

As far as food....well......I used to like this place.  It was definitely generic, but it served its purpose as a local bar with decent grub and a bunch of flat screen tv's.  I went there yesterday with my wife to catch the 2nd half of a football game.  She had the "cowboy nachos".  To our surprise the nachos came with all of the typical nacho toppings put into a side shallow bowl and it was served with a bow of "Meh" guacamole and taco chips.  The oil on the chips tasted rancid, the "topping bowl" thingy had a weird taste to it and there werent even any olives!  Olives are a necessity on nachos, right? Dear chef, just  make regular nachos and please taste test your ingredients.

I had some wings.  You cant mess up wings right?  Usually.  Here at Indigo, wings are served in a weird-ass beer bottle shaped serving vessel.  This vessel makes all the wings crammed into a 5" by 2" hole. This creates steam.  Steam creates shitty wings.  Shitty wings are created at indigo.  FAIL.  Dear chef, just serve them on a plate please!  They won't steam themselves and become soggy.  Also, give more blue cheese.  3 tablespoons for 10 wings is shoddy.

Dear manager, stop not serving tap water!  I understand that  you are in the money making business, but I had 2 pints, 10 wings, my wife had a soda and a "cowboy nacho platter", then she wanted a water.  "We dont serve tap water here, but we can sell you a bottle of water".  FAIL

Five stars is contingent upon the Brewhouse continuing to host live music!  Checked this place out for the Pre V-Day Bash (sponsored by Astoria Music & Arts) on Feb. 13 and had a great time.  A live music scene is the only thing missing in Astoria, and a lot of people have been working hard to get this corrected.

Three Queens based bands played, The Jamies, Sweet Magma, and Ekra, and they put on a great show.  Spread the word and get behind live music in Astoria!

The Brewhouse itself is a decent bar.  Good beer selection and speedy service.  Haven't tried any of the food yet.  As soon as they host another show I'll report back on the cuisine :).

Indigo is a great spot for brunch, dinner or drinks. I have done all three there and never been disappointed. It is an updated version of Broadway Station (same owners) with the addition of a back patio with retractable roof.

As for bunch, they offer $10.95 for a choice of two drinks (beer, mimosa, bloody mary, coffee, etc.) plus a choice of 15 brunch items. One of the best deals for brunch. They do not rush you out of your seat so you are able to sit around and enjoy your Saturday or Sunday.

The dinner menu has a variety items to choose from; anything from fish to salads. It is very reasonable as well.

Drinks at Indigo is fun. I have been there a on different nights of the week. There are three flat screens showing either the Yankees or Mets game. The wings from the bar menu are the best I have had in the city since moving from Buffalo.  I was there one Friday night before heading into the city and the bar was taken over by karaoke. You may want to take a seat towards the back on that night.

Probably 3.5 stars for the bar food and 2.5 stars for the bar, so three stars sounds about right.

I feel like Indigo belongs in Manhattan, people who live in midtown should be deciding whether to start their night there or at Latitude or places like that.  It just doesn't feel like an Astoria bar.  I don't know what it is about the place, but whenever I go there for a beer or two, it's just not happening.  They do Karaoke a night or two per week (Friday night I think), so if that's your thing, maybe that will work for you.

The food, though, is very good.  I haven't done the brunch thing (as a guy I only go to brunch if forces beyond my control require it), but I hear very good things.  The bar food on the menu is definitely good (wings, burgers, wraps, etc.).  When the weather is nice, take advantage of the back patio.  Arnab is right about the subway though, I was sitting outside for lunch the other day and the subway screaming by every 8 minutes wasn't so cool.

Basically, if you're a girl, go to Indigo for brunch.  If you're a guy, go there for lunch or a quick dinner before you go out.

I actually got an email from one of the managers thanking me for my review and saying they have been working on their kitchen issues. It is always nice to hear back from a business and I appreciate it. I came back this Saturday after the SuperBowl fiasco and unfortunately my experience was even worse (no excitement from football to make me not care about horrible service).
We went there a little before 12 am, it was not packed and plenty of seating in the garden. We sat there for a good 10-15minutes before the waitress decided to give us menus. We had had dinner already so we ordered beer and just one order of french fries. Both waitresses serving the outside area were zombified. The music playing outside was from the awful disco tunes that were popular in clubs in the early 2000 and it was sooooo loud that we hat to ask our server several times to turn it down. Awful super loud disco music at an Irish pub- outside with only two tables taken=not cool. They did turn it down after we asked several times. I am sorry but some people are just not cut out for the jservice jobs and it makes really bad impression. Once again...we waited for fries for about half an hour .We had to inquire as to what was going on with the fries and were told they were coming up which they did half an hour after we ordered, when we were almost done with out beers and not really feeling like staying.  . Honestly, no matter how full a place is an order of fries should not take longer than 10-15minutes.
They still have nice beer selection but things seem to be going downhill at Astoria Brewhouse.

After we walked out of one restaurant because they could not accomodate a party of 14.... Brewhouse came through and accomodated us in the outside patio.

I will have to give it 5 stars on patio...  and the retractable rooftop!!! LOVE it!!!  I can not believe how many little infants and toddlers were running around here.  Perfect for my little girl.

Service was good... waitress was nice.
Food: I would have to give it 3.5 Stars... Burgers were good!!! But the chicken fingers were HORRIBLE!!! I have never see little pieces of over cooked and dried out chicken with no meat on them like this before. i mean seriously... McD's chicken nuggets are 10 times better and its only $4.99 for a 20 piece. -- Chicken fingers gets a (-1 star)  it was terrible... Go ahead and try them and see for yourself!

I would go back.  And I am a fan... but not of the chicken fingers!!!

Thx for making the reunion a good time!

Comedians sometimes like to open up their shows with jokes that may go like this:"you know your in Astoria  when you blank".

There are a lot of things people can say to talk about different places.

I'm from Long Island City neighboring Astoria, and one awesome thing about these two neighborhoods are the resturants.  Every block has an exotic thriving new spot, complete with it's own flavor, "sweeeeet!" and never sour.

"You know your in Astoria when you run into a resturant and you are shocked that you didn't go to Manhattan  only to spend your money in a similar less "yuppie" place."

What can I say about Indigo?  This resturant attracts good vibes, and a funky feng shui, with a sweet bar and flat screen televisions galore.  The bar is comfortable with high chairs and indoor and outdoor seating.  The outside section of the resturant was homey, while still keeping a resturant feel, which is a big credit to the imagination of the owners and trying to use the space effectively.

The outside space is open all season long and a peice of the glass bubble roof is retractable.  I honestly felt like I had stepped foot into Willy Wanka's glass elevator.  The decour, and floors where unreal, and the tables were immaculate. Theres even a real fire place outside for the winter.

Service:  The waitress was on the ball, and made our orders quickly, and served us our appetizer, but not in a rude "hurry along" or annoying way.  As an added bonus she was easy on the eyes ;).  We got 25 spicy buffalo wings for just 10 dollars.  I always had a glass of water, and my steak was succulent.

I don't think it was humanly possible for me to enjoy that place anymore than I did.  Plus my 21st birthday was the other day, so you know I sampled some beer!

They have an assortment of beers on tap, and I washed down my steak with it.  I stayed here for quite a while, and got comfortable.  I turned on my Indiglo, and saw we had enjoyed Indigo more than we thought, and it was time to leave.  This place is the ish...Astoria is the ish point to the blank...

"You know your in Indigo when you have a full stomach and walk out happy".

As my grandfather used to say "You can't beat that with a stick".  See for yourself friends.
