Really like the Asia Mall.  It's a little urban oasis, reminds me of a miniature NYC Chinatown and the sites and smells remind me of the countless similar shopping arcades I experienced in Singapore.  Haven't tried all the establishments key, but the Thai restaurant is excellent, outstanding bakery, and the grocery store is huge and so much fun to wander around.  This will be a regular weekend spot for me, looking forward to exploring it more!

On 13th St, In the same area as Hall Manor and those other projects.  Although that may turn off some, it keeps the prices low and keeps it down to earth for the working class people.  If you aren't intimidated by the location, Asia Mall is a gem!

This place lacks in the Asian department and it's suppose to be an Asian mall. The only thing that it has there worth stopping by for are two restaurants that are located within the mall. Perhaps the mall isn't doing well because there aren't a lot of Asian's in the area to keep it going? I am not sure why it isn't successful but other than going out to eat at one of the two places within the mall, I'd skip this place. Just my opinion though.

Since I have arrived in PA, I have been searching for a supermarket that sells live fish.   I have searched long and hard, but to no avail...until now!

My coworker told me about this place , that it was vietnames/chinese store which sold live fish.  She also told me there was a bakery.

So last weekend I went straight for the market on Sunday early in the morning (2pm for those that wake up earlier than 12pm on a Sunday).

There was plenty parking space.  Once I walked into the market, I immediately ran to the seafood section and saw the poor unsuspecting tilapias swimming in the tanks.  Immediately I told the fish dude(butcher?, not sure what you call the guy that kills the fish for you).  But anyways, I told the fish dude to get me the biggest tilapia.  Unfortunately it took him like 15 minutes to do.  Not sure if he was new or if he was actually measuring each fish to determine which one was the biggest one.
So after happily saving a tilapia from that cramp fish tank.  I went into the snack isle( who wouldn't!).  I spotted some of my favorite snacks such as Pocky and tangerine peals.  There are more but I don't know the name, I just eat them, =P.

Afterwards, I went into the drink section and found grass jelly drinks.  This was soooo good, especially how hot it was last weekend.  Their vegetable section wasn't great.  In fact. it was pretty small for a supermarket.  Not many choices, which is why they lost a star.  Their ginger however, was great.  Unlike the other supermarkets that I go to, their ginger was fresh and crispy.

Well if any of those iteams doesn't strike your fancy, some of the cashiers were cute.

Other thank the supermarket, I checked out the bakery which sadly wasn't what I expected.  in my mind I was thinking of a chinese bakery with many of the usual buns that they sell.  This store was tiny.  They only had one counter with bread goods.  So once you step in, you are about five feet from the counter.

I will definitely be coming back this weekend to save another poor soul from the fish tank.

SUPERMARKET: This is the old 88 Supermarket that used to be on Cameron Street. I liked it there, and I like it even better here, if for no other reason than it is MUCH cleaner. Tons of items - you can get lost in there for a while.  They don't have everything, but they're putting up a valiant attempt.

PHO MISS SAIGON: Awful. Truly awful. I am sorry to say it, but while the service is good and the restaurant is obviously new and clean, the food is atrocious. The pho comes out with noodles clumped in the bottom of the bowl and the summer rolls are dried out in places, as though they have been sitting around. I ordered shrimp paste on sugar cane, and the shrimp paste was frozen solid in the center. They have a large menu, so I'm really bummed that the food has been so bad. Perhaps there are things on the menu that are passable, but I doubt I will ever find out because of so many bad experiences. I wanted to like this place and tried it several times, but it has never been a good experience.

Lately I've been getting into a lot of Korean things. Korean shows, Korean music, Korean celebrities... that also means Korean food. So I was happy to find a place that sold good kimchi and was relatively close to Middletown.  The kimchi was really good. It's not like I can only find that brand in Asia Mall, but it's the closest place.

Along with the kimchi, I also purchased a pack of strawberry biscuits, but they tasted a little stale when I ate them at home. Some of the items don't really look all that fresh, but Asia Mall is huge and has a lot of stuff, so if you're looking for some Asian goodies to stock up on and you're close to the area, I guess this is the place to go.

ASIA MALL. Really???  For the K&H market. It was good at first but now, I noticed that the place is always a mess, they always move things around, the smell is very unpleasant and the goods in the shelves are very dusty. I was disappointed because all the vegetables that I want is already dead may be because the place is really hot. But I am happy because I found the broom (made with coconut leaves - stick) that I always want to have.

I realize most reviews are on how wonderful the food & service is in the market but it was not this way in the Nail Supply store!

When I walked in the guy in the front of the store was too concerned with watching tv to show me where the mineral soaks were,  he told me to look around.
After about 3 mins of me looking, I found an aisle of huge bottles of lotion which none of them were priced.  A woman walked up to me with her arms folded, asked me what I was looking for.  Nothing was priced, so I asked what the prices were on each item & she responded each price coldy.
She continued to hover over me for about 2 mins, which felt like forever after I found something in my price range ($5 small bottle of warming lotion)... I wanted to smell test it by twisting off the dispenser (which had no seal) but I stopped myself to ask if it was okay to smell it.   She flat out told me NO, what the heck!!!?  "Because it lets air in"

I think she thought I was going to steal something when I was just about ready to buy something.   I walked right out of there & I"m never going back.  The worst treatment I got in my life!

Its too bad too, I couldve been hooked on that place since I only live in Steelton which is 3 min drive.

    ****
Bottom line... I am not telling you that you should stay away because like I said, alot of people think the food & food service is wonderful.. I only wanted to forewarn anyone thinking about stopping in the Nail Supply Store only.

I think Dana G's review is spot on here - this place is cool to have in the area!

I hope it does really well, I enjoyed trying some random food in the grocery store and picking up a banh mi sammie at another shop. I love vietnamese food so this place is alright in my book. There are a few other random shops and I belive a new Thai place just moved in. I'll definitely be going back, it's small but really cool.

I was extremely pleased with our visit to Asia Mall. It's small! But if you need supermarket items or lunch, this is a good place to try.

The supermarket absorbed the Eighty Eight (88) supermarket that was on Cameron Street. That place closed down due to water damage and just an old, old building. The owner of that place owns this new supermarket, K&H.  We didn't find everything we wanted there, but they had enough for us to fill a small basket.

We tried Pho Miss Saigon. I do say that we liked it. The soup was good and not too salty. The chicken (I always get the chicken pho) was cut too thickly - I like the meat thinly cut - but otherwise was ok. The service was slow, because it was busy there. They need to hire someone else to help out at busy times.

We stopped at the bakery and got a couple of bakery items. I noticed on their wall they had some drinks. I was hoping these were bubble drinks. They were! I ordered an avocado one, after asking if they were made from real fruit. One look at the drink and I knew I had found my replacement for the bubble teas we had in Virginia. IF YOU WANT REAL bubble tea, go into the bakery (or I guess the cafe that's connected to it - the woman went in there to make my drink) and look at the sign in the window for the fruit selections (they need a picture to make it easier for folks to tell what they have to offer). Then ask for them to make you your choice of bubble tea. I was extremely satisfied. When you try one of these, you'll know that the kiosk in the Colonial Park mall has a very fake sugar syrup drink. These sold in the cafe/bakery are the real deal!  Delicious! I'll be back there again for drinks. We have yet to try the bread - I'm so full after lunch!

Note: we had no problem with them taking our debit/credit card, unlike Dana G. (except bakery - I'm unsure because we had a $20 on us and just paid cash there.)

Oh this place is good. Wonderful food, excellent prices and attentive service. Friend had soft shell crab at a market price of $16, unbelievable and delicious. The calamari appetizer is really a sharing plate it is so plentiful. I will be back to try more.

is this the only asian market in harrisburg, pa? well, i guess everybody who wants asian foods would be stuck with this place. the place looks new and organized. i'm a bit concern though about the freshness of the fish. they looked tired and pricey, too. in the meantime, i think this place would suffice for lack of competition in the area.

nice spot to get your asian related groceries and/or apparel, plus video rentals for movies in all sorts of eastern asian languages, the food shops are nice but the bakery keeps weird hours. i stopped by around 5pm a couple of weeks ago expecting some banh effing mi and they were closed. i mean do i have to open my own banh mi shop to get good banh mi? they should open it 24 hrs a day, dammit!

Tried the Thai place today and very disappointed. The main meal was good but the accompaying items (soup and egg rolls) were a major let down. The soup had no taste whatsoever in the broth and the won tons were too fishy tasting. Missing the normal hunks of pork as well. The egg rolls had no meat (that I can see or taste) in them and very lack luster. Every other Thai Place I tried has similar tasting soup and egg rolls with varying degrees of quality but this places soup and rolls were not very good. Part of my dining experience is the appetizer and soup so even the the main course was good the overall experience was not enjoyable. I will not be going back. The vietnamese restaurant is better but nothing spectacular. Since there are better choices closer and there was nothing stand out about this place I probably will not be going back. Tried this place a few more times. The service was spotty depending on who helped you. Some were friendly while the one young lady at the register is not too courteous. A simple thank you would be nice..
