Review from Laura P.
New York, NY
I ordered from Asia for the first time last week. I had their Sesame Chicken lunch, it was well seasoned tender chicken. Then we ordered again Wednesday night - gyoza, tangerine chicken and beef & broccoli. All dishes were enjoyable. Unfortunately walked past there Thursday morning and ASIA GRILL IS CLOSED - there are FOR LEASE signs across the windows and no tables in the dining room. What a shame.

Overly Underwhelming
Cha Gia (Spring Rolls)
Q. How do you get these wrong?
A. The texture both felt & tasted like plastic.
Bun Xao (noodles) - OK, but only decent with chili & fish sauce, there was a considerable amount of noodles, enough chicken, but scarce other ingredients makes it a bit plain.
La Sa Tom Soup - I chose medium spicy, but there is no real spice here. Enough shrimp (7 small ) , but lacking flavor, tasted like chicken soup with a bit of coconut milk added.
There are too many good places to eat in this city, if you contemplating this place, I suggest you go else where. I should know better than to order from multi-asian places. Sigh...

I like this place, but the chicken is a little rubbery. I normally get the Bun Xao, which is decent and affordable ($9.50). I recommend getting it with vegetables or shrimp. It's a large portion too and can easily be split.
Sushi here is a no go. It is not fishy tasty, but sort of tastes musky.
All in all, this is a good place to get a decently priced dinner that is pretty tasty. -

Been here a few times for their lunch specials. Food is great, and lunch special prices are awesome. Their sushi is good, bun xao is great, chicken with broccoli and pad thai are all awesome. Service is great too and nice atmosphere.

Came on a Sunday after church with a large group of friends. The place was quite empty, possibly due to the "C" rating displayed on the window, haha.
I went with my usual bun xao (rice noodle dish - like a vietnamese Pad Thai) which was good, but not spectacular. However, for $9 it's definitely worth it! Hubby got the pork chops which were also good. Great place to go with a group if you're in the area and don't want to break the bank. -

Extensive menu, maybe we had just ordered wrong.
Chicken dishes lacked good flavor and were too salty.
Tasted like your regular, nothing special Chinese takeout place. -

Disclaimer: This rating is exclusively based on takeout service.
This place is one of those multi-Asian restaurants, offering Chinese & Vietnamese dishes as well as Japanese dishes & sushi. My preference is for the Vietnamese dishes but the sushi & rolls are reasonable & good quality. My favorite dish is the Bun Xao, a Vietnamese analog of a pad Thai style dish. The soups are also fantastic and anything grilled has always been tasty. They can make things spicy or not and I always get some chili sauce on the side.
The spring rolls are great, but I can never get them to deliver me the lettuce for wrapping and that is really annoying.
Overall quality of the food is 3.5 stars but I have had delivery in as little as 10 minutes !!! from the time of my call so an extra half star for speedy service. They also will deliver small amounts, a large soup order is only $6.50. -

My aunt from NY took me here for dinner. Everything we ordered was great: Shrimp dumpling, Fried snapper, steak cutlets and seafood fried rice.
Worth the go! -
Review from Moses A.
They pretty much have all your typical fast Asian take-out food covered here. Chinese take-out dishes, Japanese bento boxes and sushi, Thai noodle dishes and Vietnamese rice dishes. Nothing really Korean tho.
Everything is ok too, never had a dish I hated or one that I really loved.
Just OK. -

Where do I start? ...
I've had this place bookmarked for while on my Yelp account due to all the great reviews on their food. I was excited, since I'm a chinese food junkie and basically live off of it.
We accidentally stumbled across "China Fun" instead (which is down the block) while walking to this place. We were tired, hungry, and just decided to settle on it. We were blown out of the water with how good the food was, but still wanted to try Asia Grill.
The next day we were in the area, and made it our business to lunch here. We were seated immediately by the window, and was brought 2 waters. I looked through the menu and decided on the Chicken & Broccoli. Its what I usually get from anywhere, so I stuck to simple. We also ordered a vegetable fried rice, and a miso soup.
The miso soup arrived first.. and was... terrible. It didn't taste like any miso soup I have tasted before and it just wasn't good! When the chicken with broccoli and rice came out, we immediately were greeted by a very foul smell. Something like dirty socks. Turns out - it was the food.
I tried a piece of the broccoli and not only did it smell dirty, it tasted dirty as well. Like it was made with sweat. Sorry to be gross, but its the best way of explaining it! The rice was very unappetizing as well.
Over all the check came to $20 and some change before tip. Very disappointing. Would never even give this place a second look. -

I went here for my birthday lunch, since I had to pick a local spot. I kinda expected to hate it a little bit, but I was actually pretty satisfied.
I ordered the Pho Bo off the lunch menu, but it was actually what I've seen referred to as pho tai. I think 'bo' means 'beef,' but the pho bo I usually see have beef meatballs.
There could have been more eye round in my soup, but the price was reasonable at $6.50. Everyone seemed pretty satisfied with their food, in particular the sashimi looked very nice.
In the end, my pho was mediocre but since I kept my expectations low I was completely satisfied.Listed in: VietNOMese

Very good veggie sushi, cuc. rolls were masterful. Summer rolls to start were decent, a little no fills but enjoyable and well portioned. Miso was well above average if a little heavy on the kelp. Diet choice chicken with mixed veggies came with STELLAR garlic sauce and was prepared flawlessly with super fresh produce. Delivery was lightening prompt. Shall return.

I grew up within close proximity to Westminster, CA - the largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam. I know what good Vietnamese food is supposed to taste like... and I have yet to have any in NYC (Philly is a different story).
This place gives it a good shot though. Delivery is super fast and the lunch menu is a pretty good deal. As far as a quick, reasonable lunch option - this is a great spot on the UES. -

Tonight's late dinner was brought to you by Asian Grill. Talk about a diverse menu. I was told it was a Vietnamese restaurant, but I see sushi, bun, pho, stir fry, happy family, teriyaki.. you've got nearly all of asia here. (although i didn't see any korean).
I ordered bun. It was bland and I've had better.

Ridgewood, NY
Location & Staff: You can be somewhat successful in finding street parking around here since it is not as crowded with restaurants as beyond 70th or under 60th. It is conveniently located right by the Queensboro Bridge. There are windows all around so you can take a peek inside. There are always a couple of tables filled no matter what day or time. The wait staff here are fairly young, know good English and are attentive. On busy nights there is a hostess. Although not fancy, it is many steps beyond the typical hole-in-in the wall viet/chinese place. The lighting, furniture, and general mood is very pleasant.
Food: Although they serve a variety of asian dishes including sushi, I usually order their viet cuisine plates. What you notice first is the adequate size of the plates. Anything you order, they won't skimp out on you.
Appetizers/Soup: The classic Shrimp Summer Roll is very fresh and light, good way to start a meal. Their Fish and Shrimp Hot & Sour Soup is not too greasy and has a plethora of ingredients. Their warm chicken crepe is not commonly found and is very tasty.
Entrees: My gf always gets the Vermicelli, with grilled chicken. I believe they used chicken cutlets, a step above the more fatty chicken in cheaper viet places. It is grilled very well, comes with adequate vegetables and a huge bed of vermicelli. She asks them to heat up the vermicelli, it is usually served at room temperature. Their beef pho was not memorable, but it was perfectly adequate. Their spare ribs had the perfect marinade, and grilled so that the meat just falls off the bone. I have not had their sushi, but their menu is huge so anyone can find a dish to suit their taste.
Price: It is a bit pricier than the cheap corner place that you can get a noodle dish for $7. Their individual noodle/rice dishes are just about $9-10 and the dishes that are best shared are just under $15. Overall it is well worth the extra money for the better service and quality of food. This is definitely my fallback place to go to in Manhattan when I don't have prior dinner plans. -
Review from Tina C.
After a fifteen minute self-guided tour at nearby China Institute of America with my Canto Meetup, we developed an appetite as planned for dinner at Asia Grill. Asia Grill is strangely a combination of Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese cuisines. The Malaysian Satay is compromised to the Vietnamese Bo Nuong Sate of beef on skewers, which were not grilled. Asia Grill carries Sushi and Sashimi as an entrée, miso soup, ginger dressing for salad, but disappointedly no Bento Box. The Tempura fried green tea ice cream at $5.00 is appealing but two members of our group found it ordinary not extraordinary to their palette. Asia Grill is somewhat pricey for eight people with only one glass of alcohol, four desserts, three appetizers, and eight entrées totaled a fiercely $153.51 bill.
The Kikkoman Plum red wine at $5.50 was not the same as the white plum wine version for taste and glass goblet being served, which previously traveled to Tokyo and Nikko, Japan I've had far better. Surprisedly Asia Grill carry Heidsieck Monopole Blue Top from France at $34.00 per bottle yet no authentic Piper Heidsieck Champagne.

Considering just a couple avenues over, everything else is double the cost, it was refreshing to get good food at reasonable prices.
The menu was almost intimidating; it was like a big picture book! They have Vietnamese, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine. I'm not sure who's idea that was, but I did Chinese, and my friend went to Japan. I ate the tangerine chicken, and it was excellent.
The service was slow. The food took a long time to arrive, and it took forever for them to clear the table and present us w/our check.
They have a cheap lunch special I missed by about an hour, and I'd say it's worth checking out. There's something for everybody here.
The restaurant is super clean, and the bathrooms are immaculate. I care about stuff like that, and I'm sure you do too. -

They don't stand out to me. the dining atmosphere is cool.
the food is a little exp. 13 dollars for lunch with no drink.
and the lunchtime menu is just so much work.
I hate those lunch specials where you have to choose all this crap!!... i want it all but dammit can you just make a lunch menu where my indecisive ass doesn't have to read and pick so much crap I'm damn near late to go back to work from lunch!!

One of my favorites in the city! Great Vietnamese food...try the Bun Xao with Chicken and the Kahn Choa soup with fish...yummy yummy.
Delivery is quick! The actual restaurant is nice and clean. I have been going here for years and it still remains consistent and delicious.

Manhattan, NY
As noted by others, Asia Grill is the uptown branch of Saigon Grill, with almost the same Vietnamese offerings joined to an expanded menu that comprises excellent sushi and Chinese offerings.
I know this usually spells disaster but let me repeat SAIGON GRILL. I lived in Portland, Oregon's most heavily Vietnamese neighborhood for ten years and the food here is as good or better than anything I had there. And Saigon Grill in my experience far surpasses any other Vietnamese place in Manhattan.
Like Saigon Grill, the ambience, prices, and quality of food are all remarkable. Asia Grill's service is ensemble, incredibly attentive, and they bestow generous buyback drinks on regulars (who tip well, anyway).
The prices are remarkably inexpensive for NYC as a whole and the UES specifically, the atmosphere is lovely, with french doors facing a busy street perfect for people watching, and they have Vietnamese 33 beer. Four freaking bucks a bottle, 24/7. That's happy hour for domestics most places in town.
One of the best overall restaurants and values in NYC. I've eaten here with groups as large as eight, as well as intimate dinners and lunches for two, and have thus had the good fortune to encounter many of the diverse menu's offerings.
The Bun Xao (think Pad Thai, kinda, if you're unfamiliar with Vietnamese) is superb -- and I've heard about twelve people ranging from vegans to bloodthirsty carnivores attest to this after ordering it. The soft noodles are stir fried with veggies and/or meat of your choice and arrive with a wonderful grilled flavor.
Most importantly, the room-temperature bun (a rice noodle salad) is the BEST IN NEW YORK. I am a bunaholic and nothing I've had even compares to Asia Grill's. The noodles are topped with sauteed vegetables that are barely warm but not HOT, as it should be (contrast Lemongrass's fakeass Chinese version up the street). The lotus, mushrooms, cucumber, bean sprouts , bamboo shoots, basil and more are then tossed with the noodles and the resulting combination is uniquely Vietnamese and heavenly.
Other mandatory offerings: the Special Vegetable Roll, the vegetarian Summer rolls, and for pescetarians, the Crazy Roll, which ain't cheap but contains perfectly pan-fried oysters wrapped inside the rice and nori. Also: any of the soups, the Curry Okra (another Viet specialty), and any of the vegetarian entrees.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Pasadena, CA
The menu is extensive. This either means everything is either very mediocre to borderline bad. However, the food wasn't that bad. I really hate Vietnamese food but I was trying to be adventurous.
I will have to admit though, the lunch specials here are pretty stellar and the portions are large. Coming from SoCal, it's pretty hard to impress me with good Asian food at a low price, however this place did it's job.
Tried the Ginger Iced Tea which was freaking like ginger-tastic. It was so potent that it felt like I was drinking some ancient herbal elixir that the Chinese herbalists would force down your throat saying "good for you!". Anyway, let the ice melt into it and it's all good. Pretty unique.
Tried "bun" which was rice vermicelli noodles served cold with carrots, lettuce, cucumbers and egg rolls. I added a stick of beef to add some spice. You are technically supposed to add fish sauce which honestly always makes me want to throw up when I smell it so I substitute it for hoisin sauce (upon request). It turned out to be a very refreshing and large lunch that was pretty cheap.
Again, specializing in Viet food, I am not sure about their Chinese and Japanese food, however it seems to be popular since everyone around us ordered those choices.
Recommended for a cheap lunch on the east side. -

Eating take out from there as I type.
I ordered the Bo Nuong State, Com Chien Ca and Cha Gio.
Strike number one - A lot of the beef was fatty.. I had to pick it apart.
Strike numero dos - The shrimp was not cleaned thoroughly... Picking there too.
Note: It is impossible to enjoy a meal when you have to stop and pick and check your food.
Delivery was fast which is always appreciated and the delivery man was a pleasure. -

San Francisco, CA
I had dinner here because the area lacks any places worth going to. It is so bad in the area that it makes this place look great!
The menu reads like a book! There are paces and pages of food options that encompasses Japanese, Chinese, Thai AND Vietnamese food! Frankly, I am super weary of places that offer multiple cuisine from different cultures to lack quality and typically stick to the Chinese plates. I usually do this at Chinese owned/ran places.
We ordered Big Prawns w/Snow Peas, Salmon w/Tamarind sauce, Pho Ga and Shrimp Summer Roll.
The Big Prawns w/Snow peas & Salmon was quite good. The Pho Ga was a bit bland but the broth was clear and nice.
The service was much better than what you normally get for a Chinese restaurant. They were all polite and attentive which was a nice change. They refilled our teas and replaced our plates and the manager came by a few rounds to check on us.
Overall, this is a safe place to go to if you are in the area. They have "healthy" menu options that has items such as chicken and prawn that is all steamed which is great. -

I came here for lunch on a Saturday last week. Surprisingly, Asia Grill extends their lunch specials to Saturdays, which is always a pleasant surprise. However, I was a bit hesitant at first because usually Asian places that serve all kinds of Asian foods (Chinese, Japanese, AND Vietnamese cuisine) usually aren't the best. But then I was told that there would be pho on the menu. PHO?! WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF MY APARTMENT THAT IS NOT IN CHINATOWN? OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY!!!
I ordered the Pho Bo ($6.50) and my friend ordered the Goi Banh Cuon with Beef ($7.95 ish, can't remember the exact price but it was below $8). My pho was....meh. The beef wasn't the best - it was a bit rubbery and tasteless to be honest. The soup was alright...but the noodles were great! But come on, this is pho that is not in Chinatown. What do you really expect? It all comes down to this question: do you settle? Well, I do settle sometimes because I hate getting on the subway to get real authentic pho downtown so I can see myself walking a few blocks to Asia Grill and getting the pho there. Can't chastise me for it.
My friend's boi banh cuon was really good. It was basically a bunch of vegetables with beef skewers on top and some flat noodles. The veggie/beef ratio was a bit too high for my taste, but the flavors blended nicely.
Service was whatever. Nothing spectacular, though nobody was rude. They were pretty prompt in refilling our water which is all I ask for. -

Six. Big deception. Never again. The hours are 10 am to 10 pm....we walked in at 9 pm , sat down and waited for over 10 minutes for the busy waiter who was hanging out by the hostess without anything to do , we were the only table at 9 pm and when we started placing our order he said it was too much food and we only had 30 minutes to eat because it was already 9:15 pm. And they close at 10 pm. Seriously ? I live across street from this place, and I confess ILL NEVER GO BACK THERE, RUDE RUDE RUDE RUDE PEOPLE THERE, COLD HEARTLESS....with the economy we have right now, and a restaurant trying to survive in NYC ,,, I'm not giving them business.

So two apartments ago I used to live within striking distance of Saigon Grill on the West Side. This was before their well publicized labor difficulties so we would get delivery from them all the time. They were not the most authentic Vietnamese place but as I mentioned in the review I did back then, they have some dishes that are so savory and delicious that they stuck in my mind and became constant cravings. Often these are their grilled meats like their unreal spareribs (the recipe was in the times a while back) and their bo luc lac beef cubes. However, in the last two years I have only been back on the rare occasions that I am in the West 90s for dinner.
Now that I am on the East Side I did my initial scouring of the neighborhood for takeout menus and we found Asia Grill. I can't find any proof of this but I am convinced that it is the sister restaurant to Saigon. They have the same dishes on the menu in the same order with the same descriptions and same prices. I have ordered in a few times now and it is really good. The spareribs were the clincher... 5 delicious ribs with the same sticky red savory sauce on a large lettuce leaf with ample pickled cucumber... the exact same way it comes at Saigon. Man am I happy to have this as an option again. Their cha gio spring rolls and salads are good as well. -
Review from Phil M.

Asia Grill must have been started by a frustrated restaurant owner competing with other asian restaurants. "You want Chinese, we got chinese, you want Japanese, we got Japanese, you want Vietnamese, we got Vietnamese" So, he started a restaurant that does all that, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese and his competition is dying quickly. Who can compete? Well, the food isn't amazing, and I never trust sushi that isn't from a sushi restaurant by rule of thumb, but if you are hungry and in the Upper East side, you could do worse. The food is relatively healthy and the vietnamese style curries are pretty tasty.

This rating is purely on their Vietnamese food.
All in all the food is average here. We ordered the Basil Beef and Curry Chicken. Both were so so. My favorite thing that we ordered though was the coconut milk curry noodle soup with chicken. Super tasty.
The dishes however tasted a bit slimy so would not order them again. -

I think there really should be a rule that a restaurant should not have a menu longer than 2 pages long. I feel like something about a restaurant that has a 15 page menu just is asking for the quality of the food to be LOW. Asia grill is a place that likes to make novels with their menus...their menu has everything from Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese food. I've been here twice already and I just can't dig their food. Just really bland food with nothing thats really authentic. I guess if you're just looking for a place with a thousand different options for dishes then this might be your place. The only saving grace of this place is that its a big restaurant so no waiting and relatively clean.

I'd like to give 3.5 stars, because embarrassingly enough I eat here too regularly to give it 3 stars. However, I do not feel the quality of food and service surpasses to 4 stars. I'm a sucker for a large variety of Asian foods. I like to eat my sushi with pho and an order of potstickers. Or even eggplant and those rice crepe thing-ies. A word to the wise, order take-out or delivery. The server staff are incredibly stifling with their hovering. If you want a leisurely dinner look elsewhere. AND the staff are not afraid to ask for more tip even if they (yes more than one has asked) did not personally serve you.

one random monday night i was craving chinese food and this place is like only a block away from my apartment. perhaps it was my low expectations but i was really pleasantly surprised by the food. we got steamed dumplings, spring rolls, and chicken and broccoli w/spicy garlic sauce on the side (w/rice) to share. SO much food for so little money! everything was really good the broccoli was perfectly cooked and there was a ton of chicken. the menu is huge, so if you're looking for something more adventurous they'll probably have something you like.
the service leaves a lot to be desired, we sat down and after our drink order our server disappeared. we had to flag someone down to order. after that it was smooth sailing. other than the fact i ate entirely too much (okay fine, i eat a lot pretty much everytime i eat anything) it was good food, fast and pretty cheap! if anything--i'll definitely get take out again because the service was bad. -

I've tried this restaurant twice. For my first visit, I ate a tofu and vegetable dish that seriously lacked flavor. Some of you will say that it was because of the tofu. No. A good restaurant can make tofu taste awesome. For my second visit, I ate grilled eggplant with crushed peanuts on top. It was good, but nothing special. The restaurant has a nice ambiance and the service was good.

They're alright, I guess. Tried some beef skewers, seafood noodle soup, fried rice (which had a lot of shrimp, but very greasy), and some seafood crispy noodles. And a green tea tempura ice cream dessert looked better than it tasted. All nothing extraordinary.
