sometimes one wants simple, old school cantonese/american style Chinese food
this is like Chinese food from the 1950s not bad but not what one gets in sf or la Chinatowns.
the lunch specials with rice and chowmein, soup and an entree (cant forget the fortune cookie and tea - its just tea folks) for 7-8 bucks is good.
Had the Mongolian beef - not real spicy (even picked out an pepper (jalapeno?) slice and ate it alone and it was almost like a bell pepper (wtf??)
rating partner had jalapeno chicken again with the mild pepper
we got there about 1130-1145 and within 15 minutes the place was about full
when full the service did slow down a bit
not a bad place, it just reminds me of how far Chinese cuisine has come in the united states -

Decent prices, large portions, fresh ingredients...a little slow in the service, tho. My first time here, as I'm not particularly fond of Chinese food (unless you are in San Francisco in Chinatown where the food is a little more authentic). Ordered the jalapeno chicken, with trepidation as I don't like really hot food. Well, the jalepeno slices were scant, and I could hardly taste the heat. Adding the chili paste (again mild) and some hoison sauce gave it more of my type of flavor profiles. I will try this place at least one more time before I make my final decision (which would be to stick to the Thai place on Olive). I could make a meal, tho of the eggdrop soup....give me a great big bowl of that and throw in some potstickers and/or wontons and minced garlic & cilantro and I would be more than happy.

WoWzzzzies.... Its been a long time since I ate here. I'm all grown up in my big boys pants now... LOL I grew up in Porterville and moved away 7years ago
I remember that my cousin worked here and she would bring food home time to time. But my first time have ever had Chinese food was with mouth drooling walnut shrimp, wonton soup, orange chicken, umm also sweet and sour pork, yes and of course chow mein!! Haha for some reason I remembered them HUGE!! Honestly it was really really good since my first bit just exploded with flavor flav!! Haha ever since thing Chinese food is one of my favorite dishes.
Ok the break down, for my visits back then also son!!
Parking no sweat pretty huge!!
Pretty big once you get inside after that i can't remember much. -

You folks in Porterville have a gem. A GEM here!!! Every time I come home from Portland, I have to stop here. The food is consistently great and the prices are dirt cheap. I went last weekend and for lunch got a bowl of soup, an entree, hot tea and heaping mounds of very tasty fried rice and some of the best chow mein you'll ever eat. Either crispy or soft noodles, you decide. All this for.. are you ready....?? $7 bucks. It was so much food, as tasty as it was I took half of it home for lunch the next day. If it was just cheap it'd be one thing, but seriously this food is some of the best Chinese I've had anywhere. Even the veggies in the soup are crunchy and fresh. Well done Asia Garden. Don't ever change.

Visiting P-town & wanting some Chinese food. Asia Garden is the only choice restaurant I would eat at other then Panda expess. The food was decent for the price. Not a fan of any of their soup especially Hot & Sour. They add to much vinegar & MSG. We had order chicken & veg chow fun, magnolia beef chow mien, orange chicken which was tasty. Service was a little bit slow.

My all-time Porterville fave. I've been coming to Asia Garden for the past 19 - 20 years and I can still say that this is one of the best Chinese food restaurants I've ever been to. They used to have two locations (one where Radio Shack is now and another before they moved to their current location, which used to be McDonald's). Even though they've moved around, the quality and the authenticity remain the same. Definitely not some janky Asian American fusion buffet like the other place across town *ahem*.
I've been out of Porterville for the past six years, which means I've had my fair share of Chinese cuisine, and I can honestly say that Asia Gardens remains one of my top choices. So what should you order? Doesn't matter, EVERYTHING is great but sometimes it can be a little greasy. Regardless, the food here is authentic and delicious! The Oolong Tea is so good, drinking tea at other places always fall short of the tea here.
The owners are extremely nice, the service is good, and the price is affordable, especially considering the huge portions! Great for leftovers. Definitely a necessity to the Porterville experience.Listed in: Hometown Lovin'

Being that I live in Los Angeles now, but grew up in good ol' Porterville, it is extremely difficult for me to find Chinese food that compares to Mr. Lee's! This place is amazing! Whenever I go home to visit my parents I HAVE to make a stop here! My favs are the appetizer soup, sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, the house chow mein, egg rolls and pot stickers!! The only thing about this place, is that it didn't train me in the chop stick, which is a vital skill in LA :)

The food is really good, place is nice and clean. But look out when your check arrives, they over charge! I got the #2, listed on the menu for $7.75, on the bill, it was $8.75. The sweet and sour chicken lunch, $7.00 on menu, bill was $9.00. half order of chicken wings waitress said it was half price, that would be $3.50 bill was $5.75. So check your bill very carefully.

A classic staple of all my Porterville visits; a wonderful trip to Asia Garden's. It is definitely the best chinese restaurant in the area. There were others but they went out of business. Now, however, Asia Garden's rule supreme. They have the class american-type chinese food. the sweet and sour pork, for example, is really good.

Sadly, I've never been to China. I've never had authentic AUTHENTIC chinese food. That being said, I hope with all hope that if I ever go to China some day that the food tastes as delicious as Asia Garden. There are a few restaurants I go to in the ville when I'm visiting for the weekend: Wendy's (because San Francisco doesn't believe in fast food joints), El Tap, Hoagies Heroes, and Asia Garden. So delish!
