16 reviews for Asia Buffet
The only reason I checked this place out was because I read a review (not from this site) that said it has a great sushi and sashimi selection.
I went to this buffet around 5 in the afternoon on a Wednesday. The place wasn't big and had like 7 or 8 other patrons. We were led to a table and our drinks were brought quickly.
There were a few rows of hot food but the first place I checked out was the sushi of course. Okay, the person who wrote on that website that this place has an "extensive" selection of sushi and sashimi is on crack! There were only about 5 different kinds of sushi- it's hard to tell because there were only about 2 pieces of each that looked like they had been sitting out for days. All of the sushi was made either with imitation crab or some kind of canned tuna looking stuff. And there was no sashimi at all!
I don't know what I was expecting from a $10 buffet anyway, I was just hopeful because of the positive reviews from a few people.
The rest of the buffet was okay. Beef and broccoli/eggrolls/dumplings/lo mein/fried rice/a variety of sauteed vegetable-chicken-pork dishes/gross tasting seafood...I mean it was a $10 Chinese buffet. It tasted like a $10 buffet. There's really not much more you can get from a $10 buffet-- not from around here anyway :(
This place is just like any other Asian buffet. Nothing different here other than the restaurant is smaller than usual buffets. The party room was too small to fit my family. We were celebrating a family birthday. The sushi was just a collection of california rolls. So you can say that there wasn't sushi. 2 stars because there was nothing special nor anything bad. It wouldn't be my first, second, or third choice to eat at.
There are so many reviews for this place. Aside from the price on a Sunday this place pleased me. I will go back. I don't expect one restaurant to taste like another, doing so will greatly reduce your options sooner than you know you have them. On it's own Asia Buffet is pretty good. I went early to be sure the food was freshest and the selection was better than anticipated. However next time I'll go on a weekday when the price is friendlier to my wallet.
What the hell is wrong with me? Have I ever met an "asian buffet" I've liked? Ever?
This one has a filipino, hispanic and white clientele. Not exactly sure why I feel the need to point this out, but there it is.
These are the dishes I found average, and therefore edible: beef broccoli, black bean chicken, teriyaki chicken, salmon, tapioca pudding.
Pretty much everything else I tried (and I tasted almost everything) is worse than average, and therefore inedible. Of particular note are the dry white rice, too-heavily battered tempera, just plain bad hot and sour soup, not-spicy kung pao, and soft almond cookies.
If you ever see anyone that looks exactly like me heading for another asian buffet, please tackle me, slap me hard across the face, and/or steal my wallet, in order to prevent me from walking through the front doors.
When I went here a few years ago, it used to be good. Then they changed management, and the quality went downhill.
Food: usually cold or lukewarm. They don't have as many variety as the previous management. Also, they are very stingy on certain dishes. When a dish runs out, they do not replace the empty trays right away. Trying to save money or rip us off? Not too sure. I only eat the Chinese dishes. Japanese food (sushi) is not that great or fresh, and Korean (BBQ) is horrible. The meat is always dry & tasteless.
I enjoyed very few dishes here, so I was sad that their quality has downgraded. There are no other Asian-style buffets around here, but I still would not go back here.
Service: Not bad. They do refill your drinks frequent enough. However, the ladies that bring out the food can sometimes be rude. Don't ask for extra seaweed, they will tell you to go away! LOL
Overall, poor management. I will not be returning here.
"We scrimp on food quality, and pass the savings on to you!"
We ordered apple juice for our two kids, and in the manager's judgment, they should share one glass, so we got a full and an empty glass. That set our expectations appropriately.
Dirty plates and silverware. Sushi, yes, but not even California rolls--mostly bean curd and vegetable rolls. Various fried food. A few fishy-tasting crab legs. Stale fried rice. It appeared that they make liberal use of the microwave to stretch out the serving tray lifetimes. It was as though they went through each dish and figured out how to reduce its expense.
The management cost-cut me right out of their customer base.
The first time I experienced an all-you-can-eat buffet it was in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, unless slot machines and table games are providing the profits you can't do a good buffet in non-gambling venues. This is quantity, not quality. This place is more expensive than Dragon Buffet by a dollar, and you have to order your drinks from the staff. Most of the regular patrons to this place are obese, so it makes you feel like you at the opposite of "The Biggest Loser." Here people are being encouraged to ruin their health by over-eating. My college student employees love this place, but they have the kind of metabolisms which haven't slowed down yet...actually after they got their degrees and started eating, I mean working full-time they started to get pot-bellies if I took them here too often.
Sometimes, you just want to get your buffet fix. But it's a tricky business. You want decent food with a wide selection, yet you don't want to bust your wallet. Luckily, this place fits the bill. Located in an inconspicuous plaza adjacent to the newly constructed shopping area off El Toro, we were pleasantly surprised at the relative freshness of the food. Granted, we're not talking about the grand smorgasbords of Vegas, but you'll quickly find yourself piling up the plate with your usual standard fare of takeout Chinese food.
While it's not too difficult to screw up on Beef and Broccoli, Lo Mein, or Hot & Sour soup, you can usually judge the quality of a Chinese food buffet by its seafood. Tasty dishes consisting of shrimp, salmon, sole, clams, mussels, and prawns are among our favorites. The salad and the sushi bar looked okay, but we usually load up on the seafood after going to a buffet or two in our lifetimes. Eat pizza at a Chinese buffet? Bah! Amateurs.
Yes, they do have snow crab legs but they are quickly pounced on and usually take a while before replenished. The crab legs were rather small and skinny anyway, so needless to say, they weren't the star attraction. Service was quick and friendly, which is definitely a plus. When it was time for dessert, it's dominated mostly by fresh fruit and jello, which is probably a good thing after consuming all that food. Skip the frozen yogurt machine, or should I say melted yogurt as it will dissolve faster than the wicked witch of the west. All in all, it doesn't get much better than 11 bucks a person for dinner.
Everything I tried here was just alright. Nothing special. The food could've had more flavor. I thought Panda Express had better Orange Chicken. The dessert foods weren't that great. The mandarin oranges tasted weird. I guess it's good for the price but I probably wouldn't recommend this place.
This place is OK for lunch M-F, which is about $8. I came here on a weekend ($10) and was a bit disappointed. Most food items I tried were lukewarm and tasted just OK, nothing special. To be fair, it was like 2 PM on a Saturday when I went so not exactly peak hours. One item I did like was the salmon, very tasty and hot. They also have sushi, tilapia, 3 or 4 shrimp varieties, and crab legs. They also have tofu but I would definitely pass on it if I were you. The chairs are really nice and comfortable, I liked that. The staff is very nice. I would come again if I was *really* hungry and unwilling to spend a ton of $.
Update: I came here during the week and it was much better. The buffet had many more cool choices like green onion pancakes and many more desserts and fruits. They still could warm up food a lot more.
If you've been accustomed to avoiding those Asian all-you-can-eats where the spring rolls crunch like cardboard tubes and taste like cardboard tubes basted in sesame oil, where the selection of dishes taste like they were only freshly unfrozen, don't avoid The Asia Buffet. Advertising itself as "The Largest New York Style Asian Buffet in Orange County" it presents you with six hot tables of delicious Asian delectables. Beyond the salad and dessert bar, you will find dishes from many parts of Asia including shellfish, chicken, duck, beef (look for Korean the rib eye steaks in the back by the ice cream machine), and pork. You can eat snow crab here nearly every day. Sushi waits in the back behind the hot soups.
When I bring my hiking buddies here after an outing, they bring plate after plate heaped to brim not because they are hungry but because it feels good going in. The danger of this place is that you will eat past your fill: it is all well-made.
OK, I like it. This is no gourmet hangout, but not too bad. I really like the egg flower soup. It may be a bit salty, but I had three bowls today, so there is something to be said about that. I also had a huge mountain of tasty little clams. All of this and a shame-full bowl of chocolate pudding. I am living a dream my friends...
I hate any type of Asian food that isn't sushi. I thought I was going to have to live off the fruit bar and sushi bar. I was very satisfied with all the choices and had the hardest time deciding what to eat. The sushi bar has about 6 choices... and the BEST salmon sushi I had ever tasted. Note: I'm a harsh salmon judge. A ton of seafood (crab!), chicken, beef, fruit, salad, desserts, etc.
We went on a Friday night, were seated quickly, ate a ton, and pain $10.95/pp. I'll definitely go back.
The "Asia Buffet" take out menu claims that this restaurant is the only New York Style Asian Buffet. I don't know what that is, but it does feed my need for a quick buffet fix. The worst part of this buffet is the sushi. The sushi is subpar, but you should go to a real sushi restaurant for that. With many Asian dishes to choose from....the taste and quality is very acceptable if you are an Asian food fan. And if you are buffet fan.....this is better. There are a few buffets to choose from in the area and this is my first time being here. I would return to this buffet.
Pretty decent chinese buffet. Like all chinese buffets, this place is G-R-E-A-S-Y- so don't be suprised. I would avoid all the sushi and sashimi items because it looks like it has been sitting out since Easter.
However, the orange chicken and duck are actually alright. Yes, THIS buffet serves duck!
Good prices. Lots of grease. Decent soft serve ice-cream.
Excellent, Food and service. I visit at least once a week. Food is high class, like Las Vegas, not greasy, many choices, people love the fresh crab legs, fresh sushi, good soup. I take a little of some because there are 100 items. Nothing like the Dragon Buffet, much much better.
