2 reviews for Ashworth by the Sea Hotel
Went here for their New Years Eve package deal. The package included the room, dinner buffet, live band in the ballroom/DJ in the pub and breakfast buffet. It was about $400.00 total for two people.
The room was adequate. I was concerened after reading horrible reviews on travel websites, but it appears that the new owners have rehabbed the rooms and improved on daily cleaning. Room was very small, not a problem for me, but I know some people have a hang up about small rooms. Two complaints about the room 1. Blue painters tape still on walls in bathroom 2. CCCCCOOOOLLLDDD. Heater in the wall didn't work so well and the sliding glass door was very drafty.
The food at both dinner & breakfast was very good. The waitstaff were very nice, friendly and attentive.
The front desk staff and the valet's were also very friendly and had a sense of urgency about them as they took care of you.
One thing that I thought was really odd, was that they didn't server up a complimentary glass of champagne in the ballroom at mid-night. I had to buy a bottle. Considering they were charging nearly Boston hotel prices for the package, they could have thrown in some champagne.
Overall it was a nice time.
This hotel is OK. I stayed here over the weekend and was not impressed. It's probably one of the pricier hotels ($150) per night on the beach, but it has nothing to show for it. Room decor is tasteful, but the linens and curtains are stained, and our room was not vacuumed. We stayed at the Surf last year and it was a much better value with similar conditions. The Ashworth has been around for years, and it shows. We had their breakfast buffet, which was horrible, dry tasteless food. Going down the strip to McDonald's would have been better. However, we also ate dinner at the Breakers Pub in the hotel, which was surprisingly good. I had shrimp scampi which came with many medium sauce shrimp and a tasty sauce. Also, there was a good scene at the pub. While I do not recommend the hotel, definately try the pub.
