Love this place! Great whisky selection, guinness pours are perfection, food is yummy- and Irish:) This is the "nice bar" in kenosha. Its the only place nice enough to take your mom to. And at the came time its cool enough to meet up with friends, or have a bite to eat. I love the Irish bars and there are really not any other ones in Kenosha, so I'm so happy that they are open. The food is so good. we usually come here for lunch time drinks and I love the wisconsin ruben sandwich!

We went to Ashling On The Lough for the first time on Sat. night. We have heard good things about this little pub.
The atmosphere has a nice, easy feel but we chose to eat outside. We Loved being able to sit outside on a nice evening and watch all the people enjoying themselves. The patio probably has 5-6 tables.
Our server Jake was very friendly and outgoing and had good suggestions. He had the "I love my job" attitude and we appreciated that. We waited a little long for the food and the bill but we were in no hurry. We were enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.
I ordered the Shepherd's pie. Which was good, but unfortunately I have to say that I have had better. Not that I wouldn't order it again though. The vegetables seemed to be kind of small and a little too soft for my liking. I like chunky veggies. The lamb meat was very tender. The dish was very hot and a good portion.
My husband ordered the fish and chips. The cod portion was good size, it was hot and he enjoyed it.
We had beer with our meals, but there was a drink menu with beer, wine and a martini selection.
We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be returning! Love that Kenosha is beginning to get more and more great places to eat and drink. Not just chain restaurants! -

We went to ashling on the lough in kenosha this past friday night with friends. I had already picked out that I wanted the Wisconsin Reuben sandwich (when I looked up the menu online)....mmm looked sooooo good!
5 stars because the sandwich itself (Wisconsin Reuben) has such a soft, tender corned beef with delicious sauerkraut and perfectly grilled rye bread! YUM!!!
We also got the wild mushroom on garlic bread appetizer and that was delicious!!! I definitely recommend that appetizer! =)
Been searching for the best Reuben sandwich in the midwest area for a LONG time and I have finally found it!!! =)
Would definitely come back to this place again! =) -

After a brief visit to the nearby Civil War Museum, I was in desperate need of a drink. Ashling on the Lough is a neat little Irish pub/restaurant that is located right near the lake. When we walked in I was thinking we should sit at the bar, but instead we grabbed a table. We should have sat at the bar. The bartender was churning out drink orders left and right, but we weren't visited by a waiter until we had been sitting at our table for over 10 minutes. We were about to walk out when somebody FINALLY came to help us.
If you by chance read my Civil War Museum review, you may have read that there was a wedding going on at the museum. Well, after the wedding was over, a bunch of people from the wedding came to this place to drink. I think maybe they weren't prepared to have that many people in there on a random Saturday afternoon, because I felt like the service was severely lacking. For our second round of drinks, I just went ahead and ordered at the bar, because clearly our waiter was not going to come over and serve us anymore.
Although I felt like the service warranted a 2-star review, I'm still going to go with 3 stars. Part of that has to do with their cool location (and outdoor seating), part of it is the neat décor, and part of it is the relatively cheap prices. If we were in the area again, in desperate need of a drink, I'd consider stopping by again for a pint. -

Was forced to come here because I was a member of the bridal party. Friendly service but an hour after ordering we still had no entrees. Running out of time, the staff boxed everything up so we could get on our way. Ashling on the (Lake) is, yet again, a place I never want to visit again.

Two of us stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for some beer and pub food. The place has an Irish pub style interior, and a great location off Lake Michigan. We were pleased with the diversity and quality of the beer selection. Also, the food was good. I had fish n chips while my friend had the corned beef sandwich. The big problem was the service. Our service was very, very slow. This was surprising as the place was only about half filled with customers. I would return again for another experience, and hopefully be able to raise my rating.

Great find!
My husband and I originally thought it was a coffee shop...the fact it's an Irish pub is relatively inconspicuous. But we were thrilled to find a good ol' Irish pub in Kenosha. My husband is from the Scottish Borders and has also lived in Ireland...so he is usually skeptical as to what goes for "authentic Irish" over here.
It's the type of Irish bar that is geared towards an American crowd and it didn't pretend to be a totally authentic Irish bar either, which is perfectly ok as it's not pretending to be something it isn't. The food was very good...we had fish and chips and a side of curry chips. Not out of this world spectacular, but the fish was very fresh and was fried just right (as in it wasn't super greasy). The chips were good, and the curry sauce tasted pretty authentic.
The biggest plus (for my husband at least) was they served Boddington's on tap, and all your typical Irish beers were on tap as well. If getting a full pint is too much for you they also have half pints of beer or cider.
The service was excellent...the Irish expat bartender also doubled as our server as well. He was prompt and friendly, and when I requested brown sauce he not only brought the Original HP but the Fruity HP as well...OMG I LOVE fruity HP and you almost never see it over here. I also watched him with other customers as well...one of them was an elderly man who was likely a regular and the way he treated the man was amazing, giving him extra thought and attention.
So overall, food was 3 stars, and service was 5 stars, therefore I go inbetween and give the place 4 stars. Next time I'm in Kenosha I'm planning on going back. -

Still Great!
In addition to the (always great) figs for appetizers this time, we also got the curry fries, which were awesome. The steak fries come on a plate with a bowl of curry sauce. We had to order a second helping of fries (for $2.50) so that we could enjoy more of the uber-yummy sauce!
This time my husband (and one of our two friends who were with us) was able to get the Shepards Pie which he said was equally great as the Pot Roast last time. Her husband had the Pot Roast and also enjoyed it! I got the corned beef this time. More slices of meat and a few less chunks of potato - perfect combination!! Man, this stuff really hit the spot. Our friends want to come back to go there... especially for the irish rolls and irish butter!
Be cautious though... even though they have a bar, soda is charged by the can, not on tap.
Parent's Note -
Double Checked, no changing table, but there is a handicapped stall which is more than adequate for one. (They should take this hint)
No menu options for children - but the fries and potato chunks got my daughter's seal of approval!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Stopped in for dinner and drinks at this ideally-situated Irish American pub & restaurant alongside the water in Kenosha.
Thoughts:
- wide selection on the menu for all tastes.
- bacon & fig appetizer was fantastic!
- delicious (albeit barely lukewarm) root vegetable cream soup
- lovely outdoor seating but the gnats were swarming too much to stay outside for long. Still, watching the marina and adjacent park at sunset was great while it lasted.
- bartenders were speedy and courteous. They don't make a Harp shandy the way they do when I'm in Ireland but, as I didn't correct them after the first and second round, it's no one's fault but my own if I wasn't thrilled.
- loved the feel of the bar area but would guess that a few more tables and stools would help make it more of a gathering spot on a busy night. The place was fairly empty when I was there yet all the tables in the pub area were filled and the only choices left were standing in the big open space or sitting in the restaurant section.
- I may change it to four stars if we have better waiter service the next time. I hate complaining about service because I was once a waitress and know how hard it can be, but with so few other tables in our waiter's section the night we were there it's hard to explain all the ordering mistakes and extremely slow service. Everyone was served at different times, drink orders had to be repeated after they failed to materialize 15 minutes later, and he was just generally... off. It was a bit awkward, actually. I don't want to cast a pall on the restaurant as a whole for that so I'll certainly reconsider the rating after another visit.
All in all, a great Kenosha dining and drinking destination. -

I love Ashling, it is one of our favorite restaurants in Kenosha. My only wish is that the chef's food processor would die. The soup tastes great but is pureed to death. The vegetables are julienned into slaw. Lose the food processor, and you get the last star. ;)

Great food. They have the best gluten free menu in the area. They stock gluten free bread for their burgers and sandwiches. Entrees are served with an edible flower on top. They have an enormous menu that changes with the season. They have everything from traditional irish fare, entrees that look like a work of art, to burgers and sandwiches. The food is very lean with options like bison for the health conscious.

Good food, friendly service, enjoyable atmosphere. I enjoy going here with my family especially for Sunday lunch. There is some waiting for the food, but its worth the wait and its good time to spend talking and enjoying the views.

We really love Ashling but can't rate it higher because it's inconsistent. We've been there when the food has been excellent, as well as the service (ask for Josh!!). But we've also been there where we waited forever for a waiter to come to our table after being seated, or have ordered a favorite off the menu only to have it arrive at the table different than before, and not in a good way. We do keep going back, but would love to see better consistency with our experiences.

Hubby and I stopped in here for a drink, so I can't comment on the food. He enjoyed his beer and I really liked my amaretto stone sour. I've never seen it made with Squirt before, but had to run out and buy some. I want to try that now! The bartender was very friendly and it was interesting to watch him make Bloody Marys. They were like a meal in themselves with the pickle, beef, olives, mozzarella cheese stick, etc. sticking out of them. Oh and they top them off with a shot of Guinness.

My first time going was this past Saturday (by boat ) and we went back on Monday-lol-2 days later, again by boat. Both times we found the food to be very good, enjoyable atmosphere- fair prices. Who knew Irish Pub food could be so good.
Our fav apps were - the Curry Fries, Guiness Chicken tenders and the Hazelnut Brie- ALL very yummy.
For entress-loved the fish taco-nice cornmeal crust on the cod -for extra flavor give a big squeeze of lemon or lime.
Also had the Lamb Shepard's pie - pretty tasty-wanted more mashed potatoes though!
All in all - we will be back again for the food and I suggest you try it too! Oh and they also have a huge variety of beers, alcoholic drinks, etc at great prices. -

Went here for the first time on Saturday. Chose it for a mini-reunion of friends from college days. Called ahead to reserve outside seating. It was a beautiful night for it. The food was excellent, on time, hot when it arrived and just plain delicious. I had the Trio of Sliders (beef, lamb, elk), hubby had the Kilkenny Steak Sandwich, another friend had the Shepherd's Pie, another had the Meade Chicken. No one was disappointed. Food was beautifully presented and so good. Service was friendly and fast even though the inside was hopping full of people. Our waiter's name was Jake and he was great! So helpful! We followed dinner with dessert - two choices - rhubarb crisp or Irish chocolate pudding. I had the pudding. The best, richest, thickest, most chocolaty thing I've ever had. Not your average pudding for sure. As the evening wore on the gnats started swarming but Jake offered to set up some tiki torches so we could stay and have drinks. As I said, very helpful. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely go back, and soon!

We have previously enjoyed this restaurant. We returned for a relaxing evening. Only after trying to order dinner were we told the neither of the entree's we wanted were available. The waitress stated that they hadn't received their delivery. We settled on two other items, one a filet.
The filet arrived burnt to a black charcoal crisp on one side. Of course, this side was placed down on the plate. The waitress The waitress then tried to tell me it was because the was smoked. 1/4 inch of this filet was burnt to a rock like crisp. The manager came over and agreed and then stated that they no longer had any filets. He also stated that they did have the original items we wanted but the quality of the meat was unacceptable.
So in summary to receive two dinners, we had to order 5 different entrees, we were told multiple excuses, and were very dissapointed in the most of what we recieved to eat.
This is too bad, Kenosha really needs quality restaurants and this previously was one. We won't return. -

We visited this restaurant on the first day it was serving food - St. Paddy's Day no less - and were not disappointed!!! The place was packed but we expected this on this festivus holiday. Many of the patrons were wearing green - hats, clothes, and hair included! The band - Bjorn and White - was also decked out in green and very enjoyable. The one thing I was disappointed with was there was a woman that worked there that was passing our the green beads but they seemed reserved for her cronies or the young hip crowd.
But I digress... The wait was about an hour - no reservations today - but we expected it. And the food was worth it! There was not much on the menu but we all tried different things. Pam had the tried and true Reuben. It was very flavorful and came with choice of potato. She chose steak fries and Jim said they were average. Jim had the pot roast and said it was seasoned well but could have been a little more tender. It was served with mashed potatoes and assorted vegetables. I had the Irish stew and was NOT disappointed! The meat was VERY flavorful and extremely tender - I cut it with my spoon no less! The potatoes in the stew were firm, not mushy - although the menu said there were other winter vegetables in it that I did not see. It also came with an interesting brown bread that I found delightful! Both of my dinner companions said they found their entrees good but I thought mine was exemplary! (Not sure if it was the two excellent Guinness' that prefaced my meal).
Our hostess Robin was very gracious and our waitress with the cute pigtails was friendly and quick considering the crowd. I would definitely recommend this to others but I may suggest they call ahead and ask what the menu holds because I am not sure they will have the same choices daily.
This place is located right on Lake Michigan and a beautiful view of the water can be seen from the windows. Definitely worth the trip! -

Nice place! Had a good vibe! Liked the food, portions a bit bigger than needed so we took quite a bit home. They had live music. There are all kinds of Gaelic words on the walls, and the place looks brand new. WE had a drink at the bar, some tasty Irish ale for sure! The bartender said its been open a year. The service was fast and attentive. Well worth the trip, its a fun place and a must for St Patty's Day! Will definitely go back.

Love this place! We went there for a benefit and had unlimited appetizers and drinks. The beer was great and the food was really yummy. We also ordered entrees and both the pot roast & fish and chips were perfect.
