Great spot. Nice atmosphere. Cool bar for groups or even solo.  Seems like they always have a special going on at the bar and in the kitchen.  The chicken nachos are the bomb!!
I've attended live shows and  seen dj's spin and there's just enough room to move around and enjoy yourself.  Bar moves pretty smooth day and night.
I'll continue to encourage folks to return with me.

"It's like I feel safe in your arms...no, not really...remove your hand from my shoulder and move out of my way"
    It's great being a girl sometimes...especially at a bar:)
First time here and I enjoyed myself. I came to see my friend's band play, which by the way, they were amazing! FARLEY...check em out...
This place is hugee....a pretty spacious bar compared to others on 4th street. Pool tables, 1 bathroom;) A few TV's at the bar with, whaddya know?, but with movies playing.
Bartenders were very nice and quick...cash only though.
Plenty of tables and booth tables to sit and lounge around.
This dirrrrty couple next to us went down the street and bought a huge pizza and brought it in. Bar was completely cool with this. Me gusta.
Divey, with clientele ranging from oldddd dirtaaay cougars ( they were hilarious), to hipsters and long shoreman. It's interesting for sure.
I'm a light weight so I do not drink unless I'm walking somewhere near by or cabbing it.That being said, I had 2 whole cokes...WOWZA:) I am a party animal.
Anyways, from what I could tell from the people WHO did drink, drinks are stiff, cheap and good...'nough said.
This place gets a 3 because it wasn't popping on saturday night, parking is a miracle (I parked near 5th...I was wearing a dress...not cool), and there's 1 bathroom that I share with the opposite sex...line was too long for my personal comfort.
Like it...will go back...kinda bar I'll get shitfaced with some dirty ol' folks while hipsters snicker at me with their PBR's...most definitely coming back;)

    Geologically challenged,
    Coco

I wish I could give this place NO stars!

Came in with my friend for "taco Tuesday" for their potato tacos.

First time we walk in and look around for a place to settle while the bartender socializes with the 80 year old barflys. Not once did she look our way say ANY thing to us, nothing! So we get up and walk away to leave, I walk out, the bartender asks my friend something but I didn't care I wanted out. But with my friend saying lets just give it a try since my husband and I came here at least 4 years ago and we liked the food.

We go back in after driving around the block. We sit down after a while the bartender comes over to ask what we'll have. We said water and some chips and salsa till we decide what we want to order.

When she comes back my friend asks what other tacos do they have besides potato and meet. She says "that's all they make, but it's their best seller" So my friend says she'll have 3 and I asked if I can have mine with no meat since I don't eat meat. The bartender says it will take more time for that....wth? So I said that's fine and we wait.

Never had our chips and salsa she brings our our tacos. My friend was horrified at the meat on her tacos. She takes a bite and says I can't eat these. I look the meat is WAY over cooked Just hamburger meat, fried in oil and dry overly cooked. SICK!  My potato tacos were ok, the potatoes were not cooked all the way. And barely seasoned with pepper. After discussing the tacos my friend just couldn't eat them at all. The bartender comes over and asked my friend how she liked them, my friend said she didn't like any it cause the meet was gross. She said ok and walked away. She then came back and told my friend "well I was going to suggest something else but not the burgers cause it was made with the same kind of meat. So my friend said no thanks we'll just get our check and leave. So the bartender walks up with our bill, for $6.54 I got 3 tacos and so did my friend, but my friend didn't touch hers they were intact. So when the bartender finally came back for us my friend said sorry I am not paying for the tacos, they were gross and I didn't eat them. So I gave the bartender $3.50 and we left......will never go back EVER again!!!!

I am changing this review, as we came in on a Sunday, and sat at a table, and the bartender ignored us.. Had to get up and get our own menus.  When he came over to take our order, we asked for a pitcher of beer. He says "We don't serve pitchers of beer, never have, do you see them on the menu?".  Yes we do.. They were right there on the menu, and we order pitchers every time we came in.  He wouldn't serve us a pitcher, and we ordered our food, and then I decided to cancel and leave. We went to a competitor within walking distance, and got a menu and a pitcher of beer within less than a minute.  I guess they should lose more than one star, but I have had enough good times here, and I know how nice the owners are...

Though I will probably end up here again sometime in the near future, I do not like Ashley's.

First off, I hate places with no windows.

Next, the last two times we were there, the bartender tried to keep our change, and I don't mean a buck, I mean, they 'forgot' to give us our change until we asked for it. Apparently Ashley's caters to drinkers so heavy that they don't realize they didn't get their 15 bucks back.  This may apply to many of you, but not to me or mine.

And finally, I was here for a fundraiser this past Sunday.  Though the organizers were very forthcoming about the amount of people they expected, Ashley's was totally unprepared.  My friends waited an hour for breakfast (which did not look very appetizing in my opinion), and I heard that some cats waited nearly two.

The waitress was overwhelmed and not pleasant about it, especially when I asked if they wanted me to go back in the kitchen and cook a few breakfasts. The bartender acted like my friend was from mars when she asked if it was possible to get a breakfast that didn't come with chorizo, and there was a line-up at the bar for hours with people waiting to order food and drinks.  I regretted not double-fisting the bloody marys, because there was NO way in hell I was getting back in that line for another drink on a Sunday afternoon.

So there it is, Ashley's in a rather large nutshell.

Went on a Friday night, the band, "Nightlife" was great, the harmonica player was awesome. Drinks were good, reasonable prices, had to the fries but the kitchen closed before we could try the burgers, but they sure did look good.

First time there so I was worried, especially since it came up as a dive bar.. but we were pleasantly surprised. the people were friendly and the bar tenders were nice, Waitress service was slow, so we had to go to the bar to get drinks.

All in all, it was a good place to go for good food and live blues music.. Will likely go back, we enjoyed it so much.. Hard to find a good place that has live blues. Ashley's is a jewel in the Long Beach area..

Something else just popped (or pooped) in my mind:

When we walked in, they had all sorts of Halloween decorations (being Halloween season and all) with "Monster Mash" playing on the jukebox.  All well and good until I ordered my beer and "Puff the Magic Dragon" started playing.

Me: "Excuse me, barkeep...can you skip this song?"

    Bartender gal: "We can't, sorry."

Great song for 6-year olds, but has no place being played in a bar.

LB Grand Prix Pre-Party after party...

Rolled through for the first time with buds.

kinda of an alright place. Kinda confusing atmosphere.
I guess this place is a restaurant too, or a bar that sells food,
or something in between. There are pool tables in the middle
of the dining area with bar style seating in the middle of a
    ton of dining booths. Odd.

But none the less, it reminds me kinda of TJ, so that is a good thing.
We were loud and ridiculous and no one seemed to mind. Several
other friendly boozers at the bar quietly boozing...

Drinks fairly priced, decent variety of beers to choose from. Friendly
bartender. The owner and his wife are very cool too.

Food - my friend ordered a basket of fries, NASTY ! ! ! they were
extremely bitter and anti-crunchy. They left me with an
after taste in my mouth as if I just smoked a cigarette. Yuck.
And I only had around 10 fries before I gave up. My other
friends ordered a basket of potato tacos which looked
and smelled really good but I did not partake. They were
silent while eating, the tacos had to have been good.

First time, 3 stars. I will be back to investigate further.

LIve Blues on Sundays in some ad is what got me there first, and I am glad I made it there.  This bar rocks.  It is a dive bar, but it is an awesome dive bar.   A pool table, a few dart boards, a jukebox type thing on the wall, and a sassy bartender who gives a little advice with each drink, whether you like it or not.

I work the weekends, so I ahve only been here on the off nights, but I am sure they are awesome.  This is a great place to have a few cold strong drinks or beers, and meet a few intersting people while doing so.  Haad a few too many, no problem, let the bartender know and you can leave your care in the lost overnight.  Just be nice, but not too nice and tip!  Em is my favorite bartender in long beach!

Came in on a rainy Friday evening a little past 9 for dinner. We had wanted to go to Pike down the street, but there was no place to sit, so we ended up down the street at Ashley's. It wasn't crowded at all and the bartenders were pretty friendly. One of them advised against ordering the "signature" pickled eggs when I asked about them. The bar was out of Pabst and any other beer on tap it seemed. We had 24 oz. cans of Tecate instead.

We had a hot pastrami sandwich and cheese burger. It was decent but would have been better had the buns not been so cold. The fries were nice and crispy.

All in all, not a bad spot for a quick, cheap bite to eat and a beer. I dig the pink tile in the ladies room and the green leather (or vinyl?) booths.

    Cash only, ATM available.

When the $18 pitchers at The Pike start breaking the bank, just head across the street to Ashley's. Well...most of the time. Turns out sometimes they'll have a band playing, and you walk in and think, "Great! No Cover. Free band. Bitchin'" Then you wonder why the pitcher still costs $18. WTF. Turns out sometimes they'll charge more for drinks to make up for charging a cover. Boooo.

Also, the acoustics are crazy for a band, everything in there is loud and I suddenly feel like old man Clint Eastwood yelling at everyone to pipe down and to get off of my lawn.

So...while none of that sounds any good, it's actually not a bad spot at all when a band isn't playing. The drinks remain cheap, the crowd is cool, and if you're lucky you can still grab some food from the kitchen!

Ok, some of you may have seen Ashley's on 4th before, and chances are they are closed when you've seen it. I honestly think this place is a cover business for drug dealers or mafia. But nonetheless, I braved it one day when I was hungry and didn't want to go to my usual places.
I ordered a plate of something. The reason I can't be specific is because I'm not really sure what I ordered. I think it was enchiladas, but it was covered in chili. The chili was acutally kind of good. At least, it would've been if the icky enchiladas weren't under it.
They have a bar. Or, should I call it, the dusty place where sad old barflys go to smoke themselves to death. Yuck.
Inconsistent hours, dodgy food, and smoky. I don't recommend Ashley's... the place that will never go away.

One of my new favorite bars in long beach...

the layout is great,, open, plenty of booths to sit down if your not the type to sit front row at the bar. The pool table (my favorite part) is almost brand new and straight as a board. A dollar a game is steep compared to most local bars. BUT your getting a quality table. my advice? if your really gonna play, drop a  $5 in there and play quick.

The full bar rocks, the bartenders are great. friendly and pour great drinks.  Oh and they have 3 HUGE flat screens that are always playing a wide variety of A.D.D appeasing shows...

i highly recommend this bar if you need a break from over populated "hot" spots filled w/ annoying fake people. This bar is filled w/drinkers that are as friendly as they come. Twice I've been the recipient of free shots from some random patron...

dig it. check it out for yourself.

Very liberal on the rules with hefty portions of alcohol at afforable prices. The seats are comfortable as hell, and when they place live music by old jazzy cats and you got your best buds and gals around...this place is heaven.

Get the potato and beef crunchy tacos with the spicy sauce and you will be so stoked.  Kitchen closes promptly at 10pm, so get there before then if you are looking to stuff your gullet.

They've got pool tables and an ATM.  The juke box plays a ton of great music.

Food Update: Had their chicken quesadilla - very tasty. The burger & fries are also decent. Heading there later tonight for XLB's Bar Brawl Pub Crawl on 4th Street, so I'll probably have something else to nosh on.

I've been to Ashley's twice now: for the Day of the Dead 2008, and for a big ol' XLB gathering in January.

Melissa is a very kind bartender who wants to make sure you are well taken care of, which I definitely appreciate, as do my friends. The drinks are cheap and tasty. I didn't try the food but when I surveyed my friends that did eat the food, they said it was good.

Plenty of room for a big group of folks. I love the fact that there's ample room around the pool table, as opposed to some bars that put in a pool table but don't think about how easy - or difficult - it will be for pool players to actually finish a game without constantly saying "excuse me."

Bathroom Check: Single stall but there's a separate area with a mirror so you can check your makeup and reapply your lipgloss while you're waiting.

Ashley's is back open as a Bar and it is much better than it was.  Supposedly they are opening the kitchen very soon.  The drinks are stiff, the jukebox kicks much ass, and the barkeepers are friendly, fun, and sometimes cute.  I am backing this spot as a watering hole.  The service is much better than at the Pike across the street.  Bring quarters for pool.
There is a private parking lot across the street just for customers.  Melissa and Aja rule.

I enjoy it here because it actually smells ok, so i dont get a headache from the greasy food/dirty booze bar stench lingering in the air. In addition, the bartenders are always incredibly friendly cute girls, and this is an excellent reprieve from the Long Beach dive bar snobbery (which likely stems from a bit of misery that they are bartenders at a LBC dive bar) that Im used to experiencing. The serve yummy bar food (their fries are bomb), and the drinks are stiff and cheap (cash only please). The inside, since it used to be a Mexican restauraunt, makes good use of space, with not only the bar area but many cozy booths and even ample floor space for a pool table. I love a bar that has space to roam.

Just got back from Ashley's bar on 4th street. The waitress and the bartender were hot, and the service was fast. They don't ignore you like other bars on 4th street. The prices are AMAZING and the food is tasty. Try the burgers (fresh and delicious) or the pastrami sandwich. I was talking to the chef and I found that they make their own hot sauce and salsa. Very good margaritas and cheap beers keep me coming back over and over to this bar. The live music and the pool table is great.  The service is friendly and quick, the prices are cheap, and the food is tasty.

Live music really changes the mood of a bar! You can't go wrong with blues, jazz and good rock n' roll man. The folks dancing on the dance floor are not  afraid to dance to their heart's content. The booths are very comfortable and have a lot of room. This is a very laid back bar to chill and have a few brewskies with great friends and meet chill people. Friendly service :)!

I had heard good things about this place from friends and decided to take my huge group of maybe 30 there for the promised cheap drinks and open space, which is otherwise hard to find in a downtown long beach dive bar. Ashley's was very casual and there were open booths for everyone to lounge about. I was disappointed though that my Black Russians were $6 when I had heard so much of the cheap premium drinks there...this was a Saturday night we went there. Must have gotten the wrong bartender!

I have lived around the corner from Ashley's for almost 20 years.  After reading a recent and positive review about Ashley's in the Grunion Gazette, I finally went in tonight for dinner with Doug, Dave and Mike...and I was not disappointed.  The place was decked out for Halloween, too!  Nina, our server/bartender, was friendly and fun.  My bacon cheeseburger was delicious as promised but I was wishing for avocado -- requested but apparently not available.  Mike had a chili verde burrito and let the rest of us taste it...and it was really good.  I will definitely order a chili verde burrito or quesadilla the next time I visit Ashley's.  The crowd was playing some great 70s and 80s music on the Juke Box, too.  Fun environment and people...with good food...just a couple of blocks from home...I'm hooked!

WTF is going on at Ashley's? They still pour a good stiff drink (we still miss Melissa but the other gals are pretty cool too)...but the last few times I have been here with friends it feels shadier and slightly skeevier than the last time. This past weekend it was full of some sort of "band" that was playing so loud I thought my ears were going to start bleeding and I couldn't communicate with the person next to me even though we were screaming our heads off to be heard. I haven't seen the owners around the last couple of times I have been here, so maybe something is up with the management. Believe me when I say my friends and I are no strangers to a good dive bar (insert V-Room shout out here)--but Ashley's is kinda starting to freak me out. It's a bad day in the LBC when you have to take your group down the street to O'Connell's for some palatable dive bar atmosphere.

This is a very laid back bar when they do not have a band playing(I haven't wandered in when there was one so I can't write to that).  As such I enjoy kicking back a few cheap beers and relaxing with my friends.  It's cute and very dive-esque and they offer a few treats to go with your beer.  Of which the pickled eggs are somewhat odd and have an almost perfumey after taste, they are also paired with some strange pickled veggies.  I do not recommend trying the asparagus it was a strange amalgam of a pepperoncini and a mouthful of vinegar and cheap perfume, lip curling is inevitable.

    its fun when dave works!

jukebox needs help, and the food as well!  i hear so many people trying to convince me of how amazing the food but seriously i ate here once and the nachos what?? they had nacho cheese sauce and nothing else!  no beans, pico de gallo, jalapeno nothing!  so, i guess it was more of what i would call chips and cheese.  but seriously nacho flavored velveeta! :(   i dont know this place has potential but food and juke need help!

Any place that sells PBR for $2.50, I become an instant fan.  The beef and potato tacos are great, but the homemade tortilla chips are to die for!!  The band (Road Kill Kings) playing that night were fantastic.  Cool place will definitely go back.

Ashley's is a great spot that seems to have lost the attention it deservers.  I don't understand when I walk in why there isn't more people there.  Cheap, cold drinks and awesome food!  Might be a blast from the past, but it's a perfect little hide away bar.  Worth stopping in for food and drinks. They have a pool table and electric dart board.  Bartenders are friendly and heavy handed.  Flat screen TV's at the bar... worth time time for sure...
