I have used Ashland Tire on multiple occassions, and every single time, I have had excellent service.
Today, en route to Schaumburg for work, my tire went flat halfway to the Kennedy (I am sooo thankful that it did NOT happen ON the Kennedy!). When I attempted to drive it to the closest gas station, you could feel the wheel rubbing the ground (not good!). What's worse, when I got to the gas station, the air pump was out of order.
When I called Ashland today, they gave me the number to J R Towing, who got there within 30 minutes. When J R dropped my car off, not only did Ashland Tire consolidate the towing fee with my bill, they also prioritized fixing my tire right away. It was very fast and very convenient.
Kudos to all those guys at Ashland Tires. And I can honestly say that I just don't trust anyone with my car needs!
My brakes were completely shot. I was on my way to the dealership when they gave out and I had to get my car towed. Using yelp mobile and my Blackberry, I called around a few places. Ashland Tire & Auto provided the lowest towing fee and Ken quoted me a reasonable price. In fact, I was told that the price was quite cheap. Tell that to a girl who just bid farewell to $650 of shopping money, but oh well.
Ken really worked hard to get the price as low as possible. So for a new front caliper, front & rear brakes, new rotors, and the towing fee, the total was $659. I really appreciated his honesty and fast service.
Thanks Yelp for helping me find a great auto repair shop!
I hate to say it, my hopes were high. But I was let down. A simple oil change. That's all I had done. Service was quick, I like that. But I was quoted for almost half of what I had to pay. What's up with that? Get my hopes up only to tear me down.
The cherry on top, I ended up paying more for an oil change (no system checks, tire-rotating, simple look-over) than I did at the dealership I usually took it to. Live and learn.
My car was making this very disturbing noise in the front on the passenger side every time I went over a pothole, like the poor car was going to fall apart. I took it in to Ashland Tire and Auto and they did the work and had it ready by the end of the day. I also needed 2 new tires.
Two days later, my son noticed a nail in one of my brand new tires. Was I #$@%&(. By the next morning the tire was flat. I managed to put the spare on and drive it over. Even though there was a huge line of cars ahead of me (it was a Saturday morning), they took my car immediately, patched the tire and didn't charge me a cent!
I plan on using them for all my car repairs.
How can you even give this place anything lower than 5 stars?
You possibly cant.
Came in here about 45 minutes before they closed to get my tire fixed and some bulbs changed out. Of course, they were busy as all hell but said they could do it for me.
Had to buy a new tire since it had a huge gash in it. And something was broken in my headlights so they couldnt just change the bulb. They didnt have time to fix the lights but they told me to come in whenever and they will fix it for me.
Then took my other car to get a "tune up" but they said they would check it out to see what needs to be done first so they dont just do things for no reason. Got a call back about an hour later telling me what needed to be done. eeeeek!
And $600 later I was out the door.
Thanks guys!

Good, honest folks - solid service - always make you feel like you're they're only customer - highly recommended
IS IT POSSIBLE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH A TIRE SHOP?
I didn't think so until I found Ashland Tire & Auto. Honest, friendly, well-priced, fair, and did I mention honest?
ACT I: TIME FOR NEW TIRES
The tread on my tires was low and I knew it was time to replace some or all of them. At first they recommended that I replace all 4, but then called me back and said that after inspecting the tires only 2 needed replacing. They could have easily sold me 4 new ones, but they did the right thing instead. I'm already a customer for life at this point.
ACT II: WHERE DID THAT BULGE COME FROM?
One day as I was putting air in my tires I noticed that my front tire was sporting some wood, specifically a odd bulge in the sidewall. I did some research and discovered that it was pothole related (Thanks Mayor Daley!), and not a defect in the tire. My dealership wanted to charge me $250 for a new tire, but I called Ashland and they said they would replace the tire at cost, less than 1/2 of what the dealer wanted. Can this place get any better?
Actually yes. They also do oil changes and scheduled maintenance at a fraction of the prices the dealers charge. Plus they will rotate your tires for free if you buy them there.
Man I love this place.
I just moved to chicago and have found that I do not really need a car for anything, hence, I do not drive it. Well, I decided to drive to work one morning (which is a very rare occurrence) and it turns out the tire is completely gone. I went in at opening, assessed the problem and fixed my tires in like 20 minutes. I did not walk out with a huge dent in my wallet which made me feel so much better. They do not try to badger you into more services. They may tell you something needs to be done, but if it is not serious, they aren't going to pressure you into getting anything done. The guys are super nice, even at 7 in the morning. It relieves my stress because I feel like they are treating my car is if it were their own, The pay attention to the needs of their customers and do not overcharge at all.
All in all, these are just two great guys who really care about the quality of their work and relationships with customers. Hence, as long as I am in Chicago, I will be using Ashland Tire & Auto and you should too!
I decided to get my wind shield wipers fixed here after reading the comments on yelp. The reviews are all true. First and foremost the people who work there are exceptionally friendly. This is probably the first time I have had car work done where I have not cried after they called to tell me the quote. On my first occasion they fixed my wipers, changed a tail light and replaced the wiper blade for $100. There were several things that they could have said were wrong with my wipers that I know are pricey but they did not.
Ironically the next week I ran over a pot hole and knocked my oil pan off. When my insurance company came to evaluate the damage Ashland Tire's quote was less then what my insurance was willing to pay so i got some money back from my insurance company. Also they were very nice about allowing my car to sit in their shop for a few days waiting for the insurance person to come out. Car drama is a thing of the past for me now. It is really nice to know that even if something goes wrong I have a dependable place where I know I am not being cheated and the people are easy to work with.
Oh man, this place is seriously a GODSEND!!!
A couple of weeks ago I heard the ominous crunchy-crunch sound of metal on metal everytime I would brake the car, which also meant I would soon hear the sound of money flying out of my wallet. Since I have a BIG distrust of mechanics, I was seriously concerned about being ripped off. But once again, Yelp has come to our rescue!
We have had our tires repaired here in the past, but never really taken our Jack Lumina here for anything else. However, the mister checked out the most recent reviews for Ashland Tire & Auto and they sounded really good so we decided to take the car in to fix the brakes.
We had gotten a call back within two hours of dropping off our car and were given an estimate of $262 to replace the brakes including the rotors which in my opinion is super cheap, and even with the oil change I had them throw in we paid less than $302 for EVERYTHING.
Got the car back within another couple hours and it was working BETTER than ever! No more crunchy sound, what a relief!!! I am so glad that we got a good price and great customer service (the owner thanked us for our business).
The mister and I have now found a permanent mechanic for our boy Jack :).

I had a flat tire yesterday afternoon and I was sad :(.
Ashland Tire & Auto fixed it and I was glad… Read more »
Alright, I'll admit it...I have a problematic car. There, I said it. So I've been dragged into the world of local mechanics kicking and screaming. But the pain is never as bad as I think it'll be.
I'm a big fan of Nal's (which I've also reviewed here) but the thing is you call and get an appointment 5 days later. Frankly, I wanted that Check Engine light off, like, yesterday. I called Ashland Tire and Auto and got an appointment for the next day.
Dropped it off at 7:30am (yikes) and got a call at about noon that it was done. $40 for a minor-to-nearly-non-existent problem and I'm ready to go. The guys at the front desk couldn't have been friendlier.
The tough thing about reviewing mechanics is that the effects really aren't known for weeks. Maybe they missed something and my car will blow up next Wednesday. But I'm guessing not. For super quick service and reasonable priced service, I'd say "yes" to these guys again.
My car crapped out on me today and I needed it serviced right away. I called Ashland Tire at 9:00 this morning, and they told me to bring it in, but couldn't guarantee they'd get to it today, since they were pretty busy. I brought it in, explained the problem, and also asked them to look at the brakes.
Not only did they fix it the same day, they replaced my brakes at half the price my Volkswagen dealership quoted me. Additionally, they dealt with all the warranty stuff for me quickly (even though I initially forgot to tell that I even had the warranty).
Going forward, I'm bringing my car here, and not some ripoff dealership. The guys were friendly, fast, and fairly priced.
I'm happy Yelp is here, because I never would have found these guys! I gave them a call and said my car was swerving every time I hit a slight bump and that my tires weren't holding air (all this happened in the span of a weekend). They were very thorough and figured out that 3 of 4 control arms were bent and that the reason my tires weren't holding air is because they were suffering with horrible dry rot. In fact, Ken was surprised I hadn't had a blow out, the tires were that bad! I ended up spending more money than I would have liked, but the car feels great and going over a bump doesn't cause me to "white knuckle" the steering wheel trying to keep the car going in a straight line!
Great fast service and great price. Little more to say. I had a tire that was low on air. They checked all four out, found a nail in one, patched that bad boy up and in about 20 minutes I was out the door, full of air, and all for $25.
Much appreciated.
I will never go back to this place. NEVER.
I lived in Wrigleyville and I used to service my car here all the time. I was so loyal.
One time, my catalytic converter got stolen from under my Jeep Cherokee 1999 and I had to get it replaced at Ashland Tire. After a $300 bill, I was told that the thieves had damaged the oxygen sensor and that it would be another $200 for replacement and labor. At the moment, I did not have the interest (or money!) to pay for that, so they unplugged it so the "Check Engine" light would turn off. I knew that eventually I had to get it fixed for the emissions testing next month.
So, I Yelped and found another shop on N. Pulaski Rd and decided to give it a shot. My Jeep got several things fixed: the back door got stuck, the driver's seat was wiggly, a shock was pounding some part of the car, and ... the oxygen sensor.
The back door got realigned. The seat soldered. The shock fixed with a big bolt that had broken. And the sensor... replugged !!! All for $100.
At the other shop, the mechanic said that he just had to plug it back in since it was undamaged and in good working condition and that my Jeep would pass the emissions test with flying colors since he had checked it with his own machine. I can't believe they wanted to rip me off at Ashland Tire !!!
I will never go back to these thieves. Never.
I love these guys!
While I have been using them for a while and have always been pleased with their service, I am prompted to write a review after recommending them to my boyfriend. After dropping his car off there last night, he texted me early this afternoon to say it was finished and that it was going to cost 1/3 less than he thought. And that's how it always is with AT&A - reliable service at surprisingly affordable prices.
Someone wrote about having trouble getting appointments--I've been fortunate enough to never have a problem. If it is a non-urgent issue (like oil change, general tune-up, etc.) I usually call a week ahead to schedule. When a more urgent issue came up recently (my check-engine light came on,) they were able to get me in the day after I called.
I completely trust their work, and as long as I live in the area, they'll be my first choice for auto repair and maintenance.
Simply the best mechanics in the city. I've been going to this place for nearly ten years, after stumbling on it when I lived in the neighborhood a while back.
Now I live miles away, but still take every vehicle I've owned there for any "undercar" service. I haven't had any major work done here, but *anything* that has to due with tires, brakes, suspension, or exhaust - these are your guys.
Run by a couple of brothers who have been in the business basically all of their lives, Ashland Tire provides honest, thorough, and relatively quick service. They are not the cheapest mechanics in town, but they may just be the best.
This place earns 4 1/2 stars on Yelp for a reason. Believe it.
Ashland Tire & Auto has not let me down yet. This week my check engine light came on in my car so I took it to a North Shore Nissan dealer on my way into work. I got a call later that day that I needed $2500 worth of work done on my 2004 Nissan Altima. I got a list of the work needed and a breakdown of their quote.
I called Ashland T&A for an appointment to get a second opinion. I am glad I did! I walked out of the shop today, check engine light OFF, car purring like a kitten and only a $380 dent in the wallet... oh and that includes 2 new tires.
Ashland Tire & Auto is run by good honest guys who are very knowledgeable and have a ton of integrity. I think that is about all I want in a mechanic... oh and they price things reasonably so real people can afford their work.
I am not taking my car anywhere other than this place! Oh, and I'm going to yelp to the Dealer and tell them they just convinced me not to get another Nissan or deal with their dealership again.
These guys rock! Came in for a leaking tire. Really thought I was going to have to buy a new tire. Instead, 20 minutes later, they charged me $25 for checking all four tires, shaving off rust on one of my rims that was causing air leakage and patched up the tire. Fantastic.
I've been taking my cars to Ashland Tire & Auto for 4 years and I'd give them 6 stars if I could. From simple to major repairs they've always done a stellar job. I trust them and I couldn't be more comfortable dealing with them. I've referred many friends and clients and they always rave about the great service and price. Can't say enough good things.
I took my old, old Ford here based on the reviews and let me say, definitely worth it. Another place told me that my brakes needed to be completely redone to the tune of $650. I wasn't having any problems, so I took my car here for a second opinion.
The mechanic was willing to level with me about the necessity (or lack thereof, really) of redoing the brakes completely. $138 later, I got my car back.
Everyone was friendly and accommodating.
I think it's important for every car owner to have a reliable, trustworthy mechanic that will not only fix your car correctly, but be fair about cost. Look no further than Ashland Tire & Auto for good, honest customer service. I first went there to replace my tires and I have gone back for every car repair since.
There is a standard of respect for the customer at Ashland, and even a concern for the customer's well-being. They will always explain to you what's wrong with your car. They will charge you fairly. If you don't really need the repair, they'll tell you so instead of just taking your money. I've also seen them tell a customer when a different mechanic had messed up their car, in case they wanted to try and take it up with them first, before paying Ashland to fix the other mechanic's mistake.
The last time I went in, I was alerted by a check engine light and I thought there was something wrong with my transmission. Even though they were totally booked that day, they took ten minutes to read the code, show me what was wrong with the engine and explain my options. It was kind of them to take the time to deal with me, and smart too, because I made an appointment for the following weekend to have it repaired.
I have never met a better mechanic in my life. They know at Ashland that if you care about your customers, that they will come back to you.
I have never been to a fair, kind, fast-working mechanic before. This place is incredible. I had a flat and needed to fix the bad tire and change from the spare. They took one look and found another tire was about to blow from pothole damage. They were not overpriced, friendly, and got the car back to me in hours. Just amazing- I can't say enough nice things about them.
Great, friendly, efficient, affordable service. Recently, when my car was making strange noises, another garage told me I needed a new engine and quoted me $2500. The guys at Ashland Tire, when I took it in for a 2nd opinion and described the problem and sound, seemed skeptical that that's what was necessary. Sure enough, a few hours later they called with the real problem: a fault front engine mount. Fixed same day for $126. I couldn't have been more relieved... I've been recommending them left and right.
Finally - someone had figure it out. You don't have to screw over customers to make a buck in auto repair. You can actually work with your customers and create lifetime clients.
I have had multiple cars and lived in multiple states going to over a dozen auto shops and this is as good as it gets. They explain what is wrong, give you your options and offer a fair price.
The only problem is that people have found them so sometimes there is a couple day delay to get your car in - but it is well worth it.
As if this place needs another good review...it still does deserve one. Completely based on fellow yelpers, I took my car to this place after the radio no longer drowned out the squeeky/grinding that happened when I braked. $290 or so later (with oil change), my car is back to its healthy self.
I've never purchased brakes before, but I was anticipating at least a $400+ bill considering about sev. months ago I took my car to a Toyota dealership b/c my trunk was refusing to close and the bill was nearly $525 (WTF?!) and they were very unpleasant.
Anyway, go Ashland Tire-very friendly staff, quick turnaround, good prices & actually fixed the problem without any mumbo jumbo hidden prices! :)
Can I give these guys 6 stars?!
I just wanted to reitterate how great these guys are! I have had so many problems with my car and every time I bring it in to them, they have been so great to me. Recently, I had a problem with what I thought was my alternator. This would have been anywhere between $225 and $300 to fix. But to my surprise, they called me up a couple of hours later and told me that it wasn't that at all. It was actually my battery cables that needed to be replaced. They could have totally screwed me by changing the alternator anyway and get a lot of money from me. But instead they charged me under $20 for the work!!!!
If you ever ask me about trust worthy, friendly guys who give you shockingly honest and refreshing service, I will always point your way to Ashland Tire and Auto!!!

So this is overdue by about a week but I had recently (within the past year or so) developed an issue with my car where there was this insane rattling underneath my car. I went to my usual place, which shall go unnamed, and they told me that I needed to replace the entire exhaust system and heat shield. Estimated price? $400-900!!! I nearly flip my lid especially when the guy tried to get me to pay $86 for replacing my headlight (YES JUST ONE)!!!
ASHLAND TIRE & AUTO WAS DIFFERENT! I called them up, they laughed with me about how ridiculous my usual place was being and told me that my issue could be resolved in a much simpler/cheaper manner.
I went over there on a Saturday morning and was rushing to get out so I can make it over to a 9:00am appointment. They told me it would take about an hour, it took less than 10 minutes! And I was charged next to nothing! I even asked them if I could pay more because of their awesome service and the guy goes, "Come back when you need something really done to your car."
These guys are the best. They're honest and no BS. That in itself makes this place a rare find.
Repaired Tire immediately. Took under 10 minutes. Very good service.
My head has been spinning all week ala Linda Blair in "The Exorcist." What with Stroger and Daley and their dumbass taxation and privatization obsession - 11.25% sales tax, the parking meter insanity, no $$ for salting of side streets, etc. - I am really questioning why I live here.
But today, I ask myself, "Could you give up the best mechanics on the face of the planet?" I love Ken and Jack and the boys at Ashalnd Tire & Auto so much. Last night we had a car headlight go out. Damn! It's freezing and snowing and it's a hassle to take your car in during the week. But I remembered these guys are open till 12 on Saturdays, so we busted ass over there, arriving at 11:35 a.m. And wouldn't you know they said "No problem, Deb, pull her up."
Now come on - I defy you to find anyone with this kind of customer service. So, okay, they said "only if you bake us something" and I agreed to bring them one of my world famous treats next week. But COME ON! I love these guys!

I have taken my car and my girlfriends car in for service. They provide professional service and trusted advice. I would not take my car elsewhere.
I was about to jet out of town and of course waited to the day of to change my many burnt out lights on my car. Tailights and brake lights no problem. Headlights... a problem. I got referred to Ashland Tire and Auto from my building engineer and boy was I impressed. Not only did I drop by without an appointment on a Friday, I was greeted promptly by many of the friendly guys in the shop and behind the counter. I told them I needed help changing my headlight and presto I had someone helping me out in a matter of minutes. He even took the time to show me how to do it in the future. It turns out I didn't need to remove the cable from the battery which was impossible for me to do in the first place without a socket wrench.
I will definitely be back when I need some work done on my car... in fact I have a 52,00 mile service coming up.

For problems like flat tires, these guys are the best.
My little sister (she's not really related, but she's the closest thing I got to one) came to visit me from South Bend. She's driving to my place, and gets all the way here--until she turns the corner in front of my apartment to find a parking space. Her front right tire eats it on the typical Chicago 8 inch curb while turning. She's pissed. Boyfriend changes her tire to a spare, but the old tire is completely done for. What to do?
We Yelped, of course, and found Ashland Tire & Auto. I think the whole ordeal took about 8 minutes? She drove into their garage, they took the spare tire off, we went in the waiting room, they replaced it, and we were outta there. I couldn't believe it. No rigamaroll? No crazy prices for run-of-the-mill tires? Assuring and friendly service? Come on now.
If I ever get a flat and need a tire in seconds flat, there's no other place that makes this much sense to go to.
I brought in a flat tire that had a nail right where the sidewall met the tread. The repairman told me it couldn't be patched and recommended I buy a new tire. I called another tire shop (Ocana in Andersonville) and asked for a second opinion. They told me to bring it on down, so i did. Felix Ocana patched it no muss, no fuss.
Ashland Tire and Auto seemed like a nice shop. They were courteous, but in the end they were trying to charge me 100$ for a job I got done for 10$ elsewhere.
Fan. Friggin. Tastic.
Me: I've had some experience with cars, both good and bad. I've replaced alternators, batteries, and a timing chain on my old car. Then I got tired of repairing my car, got rid of it, and started biking.
The Car: A 95 Neon that I just got from my sister, who just wanted me to have transportation. It has some problems, including a power steering thing.
Asland Tire & Auto: I gave them a list, and they checked out everything. The mechanic didn't hold back when he described the last person that worked on the steering. As I suspected, it would need a new rack & pinion for the leak (from a hole, that had been 'plugged') to be completely repaired
The mechanic let me know that I could live with it if I wanted, all depending on how long I planned on owning the car.
As someone who knows the basics about a car, I really appreciated that. Then I asked him to make the repair anyway. $650, to replace the rack and pinion and re-align the car. I know that sounds really expensive. Its not for what they did.
A few things impressed me about Ashland Tire & Auto.
* I gave them a list of things to check out. As we went down the list, they let me know when something was outside of their scope, and suggested other places. (For instance, with a car radio problem, they suggested that I go to "Sounds")
* From a list of things that I gave them to look at, they only found the one problem... one which I already knew about.
* For a pretty complex problem, they gave me an estimate the same day. They repaired the car, and I was able to pick it up the next day.
* They were nice. I know that shouldn't matter too much, but it did. They left me feeling great after I spent $650 there, rather then feeling like I just got ripped off.
These guys are honest as hell.
If you don't know cars, trust these guys. If you do know cars, you'll love them even more.
They were my heroes. It was the ONE of two days all YEAR that I absolutely had to be to work early and on time! I had a flat. I put in fix a flat and coaxed my Jettie the four blocks to Ashland Tire & Auto. They opened right on time, 7am--the morning after a holiday. I went in, they tried to patch it and had to replace the tire because it was on the side....I was outta there with a brand new tire within 15 minutes!!!!! I made it to my conference ON TIME!!!!!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a miracle! They were terrific.
I'm pretty sure they didn't rip me off, which is pretty much all you can ask of a tire shop, right?
Just kidding. Well, only half kidding. I'm pretty sure they didn't rip me off based on my online search after the fact. They also explained to me the condition of all four of my tires and their recommendations, as opposed to just quoting me a price to take care of everything like a lot of repair shops, or forcefully suggesting I replace all four without due justification.
They seemed very genuine, which is also a rarity in the tire biz from my experience.
I have to say I was skeptical at first with these guys. My car had been having trouble starting and I needed to get it towed to them. This was on a Friday and I needed to help my friend move the next day. Jack at Ashland told me it was unlikely that my car would be ready until Monday. When I told him my predicament he was understanding but reiterated his estimate. I then looked into renting a car.
To my surprise the next day the work on my car was done and I was able to help my friend. The rates were reasonable and the service was friendly. They also ordered new washer nozzles for me and told me to come back any time and have the installed while I wait. Living up to their promise I had the nozzles replaced this morning and there was no charge for labor, I was in and out in 5 minutes. I know that's a reasonably simple job to do but it made my life a lot easier.
