I needed a quick safety inspection and oil change...  UGH.  I hate looking for mechanics.  I searched Yelp for good reviews from WOMEN, and this place was totally deserving of the fabulous reviews!

The guys here checked out the ominous rattling my car was making and, instead of insisting on charging me a fortune to fix it, told me it was nothing important and it wasn't worth it to silence it.  They didn't try to scare me with a list of things to be fixed like other places I've been to.  They even replaced my headlights - my sad attempt to buy them and replace them myself didn't exactly work out.

All they charged me for was the oil change at around $35 - VERY REASONABLE.

They say they look at every car as if it were their own, and they walk the talk.  I'll definitely be back for any other work I need in the future!!

I moved to Chicago from the burbs when I was in my early 20's and gladly had no car or car maintenance responsibilities until I married my husband when I was 30.

Since I am the stay at home parent, it is my responsibility to make appointments and take the car in.  I was dreading dealing with a repair shop.  As in would rather repaint every room in the house instead of deal with the car.  Every interaction I have ever had with a car mechanic has been stressful and unpleasant.  I told my husband he should handle the car since he knows a little bit about cars and a mechanic will be less likely to rip him off.  Hubby, however, reminded me that he works 50 hours a week and that our family works best when we stick to the division of labor concept that has worked so well for us for four years.  Then my husband told me to take the car to Ashland Tire so I took a few deep breaths and I did.

WOW was I surprised.  The mechanics are NOT slick salesmen bent on ripping you off anyway they can (even if they can tell you don't know much about car repairs).  Each person I have spoken to will take the time to explain what the issue with the check engine light or funny noise is - clearly and without scare tactics or "you-must-fix-this-now-pressure".  They are even willing to wait patiently (when even a quick look around will show that they are super busy) with no attitude while I call my husband to discuss their recommendations.  You would think that basic courtesy would be a given but it has been my experience that it isn't at most repair shops.  My blood pressure stays normal when I take the car here for maintenance or repairs.

Most importantly, the staff understands our goals for car maintenance.  We are a one income family, I stay home to raise our daughter full time so we want to keep the car SAFE and RELIABLE and running - on a strict budget.  They also are very good at giving us a bit of a heads up when it looks like an expensive repair is in the future (new struts or changing the timing belt) so we can plan accordingly.

Several times we have had a "problem" that turned out to be a small, quick fix that they quickly fixed as part of our tune up (once the defroster blower would only blow on one setting another time the light up gear shift stopped lighting up).  Most other car repair shops would have spun a tale of how much labor it would require and how we were going to die in a fire ball explosion if I didn't immediately pay what ever they asked to have it fixed.  At Ashland Tire, it is simply a matter of "oh the whatchamacallit (I'm paraphrasing) just needs to be snapped back on " or "oh the light bulb needs to be replaced".

Our 1999 Subaru is still zipping around the city to the grocery store and out to the burbs a few times a month to visit family and it is largely due to Ashland Tire maintaining our vehicle.  I decided to add to the chorus of 5 star reviews because this repair shop really is the proverbial needle in a haystack.

I love these guys. They are all super friendly and personable. All I know about cars is how to drive one, so it's refreshing to go to an auto shop where things are explained concisely and clearly, but not condescendingly. They're honest and haven't tried to get me to pay for things I don't need. Plus, their prices are reasonable!

Probably the best thing about Ashland Tire & Auto is how quick they are. Both times I've taken my car in, they've A) squeezed me in that day, and B) had it done WAY sooner than they originally told me.

I really trust these guys with my car, my time, and my wallet. I will continue to return and recommend this place to everyone I know.

(And seriously, how many places have nearly 300 reviews and their average is 5 stars?! Well deserved!)

Great service, speedy and very communicative.

I had previously called their shop to find a deal on summer tires since I had popped one. They provided great advice and weren't even looking for business. I ended up having my tires ordered at http://TireRack.com and shipped to them (they are an authorized tirerack installer).

I called to confirm they received the tires and they said they would have me in and out within 45 minutes. True to their word, they were efficient and had my tires and rims mounted in no time.

I would absolutely recommend these guys and will be returning with all my future service.

My check engine light came on so I went to a nearby  shop & they charged me $80 to diagnose it, saying that I needed a new charcoal canister.

Got a second opinion here, and there was NOTHING WRONG with my car. I almost dropped $500 at Nortown Auto, and instead I dropped these guys $20 to get some beers after work.

I will never cheat on Ashland Tire & Auto again! These guys are just hands down the best.

These guys are great. I have had a few small issues with my car, that I've brought into them. Each time they were able to fix it in less than five minutes (a loose heat shield, a check engine light due to a slightly loose connection). Both times they insisted on not charging me and told me just to keep them in mind when I need a real repair. They are incredibly accommodating, professional, and knowledgeable. I will continue to bring my car there for all needs, big and small.

I've had a good enough amount of work put into my '96 Geo Metro that I feel confident in saying this is the best auto shop I've encountered--and I've had my car cared for in Madison, Minneapolis, Cape Cod, Tahoe, and Portland (yep, it's like the Engergizer Bunny! and about the same size, too).

Never do they do work that I don't need, sometimes they do small jobs for me for free, and they'll let you know what repairs can wait, or what you should probably get fixed sooner rather than later.  Overall, they are a group of awesome guys.

I should also note that I'm the Dutchess! Good or bad?

I love this place!  After a routine oil change at another shop came back with a million recommendations of things I should do with my car, I decided to shop around to find the best price for the important fixes.  Ashland Tire & Auto had the best prices, and were very friendly and professional!  I would definitely go back.

The only problem is that the word has gotten out about how great they are, so you often have to make an appointment for 1-2 days after you call.  I definitely still recommend them!

These guys are great! I've gotten 3 oil changes, a full set of tires, and brakes and rotors replaced, all reasonably priced, quickly and efficiently. I'm always skeptical taking my car into the mechanic, but have never been asked by Ashland to have any unnecessary maintenance done to my vehicle. Service techs are friendly, and will call immediately after your car is ready to be picked up. On time, less than you'd imagine to repair, and super communicative. Count me as a repeat customer.

Nothing like kicking off a Monday morning with a flat tire.  Ugh -  I had no idea what to do - I pulled up Yelp and searched automobile repair....Ashland Tire & Auto came up - 5 blocks away and 5 stars - I'm in!

I slowly drove my car to Ashland Tire - $25 dollars and 25 minutes later I was on my  way.  They removed the nail and patched my tire all with friendly and quick service.  I enjoyed the TV in the waiting room - they even left the remote control out front so customers can change the channel.

    Thank you Ashland Tire!

My car is 12 years old. And, in the winter, my tires are known to crap out on me. Every winter for the past few years, I have to buy at least one new tire after driving on (and then pretty much shredding) the tire. It's annoying.

Enter Ashland Tire. After the flat tire, so many people recommended Ashland Tire as their go-to for new tires. When I got there, I told them to just put two new tires on the front end of the car because I was sure that I would need to replace at least the front driver side. Nope. I was out of there in 20 minutes, $25 poorer and given an explanation that the hole was along the wheel rim. They patched it up and sent me on my way. I have not had a problem (with that tire) since then. I will definitely use them in the future!

I'll keep this short, but I had the same experience as a lot of people here. They're friendly, professional and honest. I took my car in for brake repair, but it turns out that they're fine. I've never had a mechanic talk me out of spending money.

Just make sure to take your car in as early as possible. I dropped off my car at 8am and they were already super busy. It took them four hours to call me. I'm not mad about this; just want to give an idea of how busy they are, which says a lot about how awesome they are.

A couple weeks ago I hit a pothole.  I wasn't even speeding (seriously, I know I have a lead foot at times, but I was slowing down from doing 30) and I hit this pothole hard.  It was so hard, in fact, that I was convinced I had a flat tire.  After pulling over and checking my vehicle, I couldn't find anything wrong, but something just seemed off.  Not too long after, I realized I didn't need to step up to get into my car and that's when I took another look and noticed the back driver's side of my car was sitting lower than it should have been.

I wasn't sure what I broke, but it was evident I broke something.  Called the guys up, dropped off my car not too long before closing and asked if I could leave it and have them call me in the morning after they took a look.  They actually called about 30-40 minutes later and broke the news.  Additionally, they informed me that my back brakes needed replacing.  I knew this.  The last time I was here was for my front brakes and they told me I was fine for a few more months.  Well, it's been longer than a few months.  The cost?  Just under $1000 for everything.  Whaaaaaaaaaaat.  They told me to think it over and call them the next day, since they were closing anyhow.

After discussing my options, I decided I couldn't afford everything that day and that I'd have to go back for the brake work.  David knew I was upset about the whole thing and even agreed to forget the brakes, as long as I didn't drive on it.  That's just not possible, I need my car.  As I'm fighting back tears (because seriously, I'm very cautious around potholes and this one wasn't noticeable) David asks if he can call me back after he looks into something.

Well, in the end David called around and found me one used replacement part instead of 2 new ones.  He didn't have to do that.  He could have made more money off of me the next week when I came back for brakes, but because he knew I would be driving my car, he saved me money so I could afford to take care of both problems.  Now, some might be asking if I really needed my brakes done.  Yes, I did.  I can tell how different my car is now when I stop compared to a few weeks ago.  The guys at Ashland Tire are great!  They could have easily waited and made more money, but they didn't, and because of that, any time I have a problem, they'll be the guys I call.

My check engine light came on so I took the car in for a second opinion after getting quoted for $1000 worth of work and new parts at the Mazda dealership.  They ran a few tests and fixed the problem for free, highlighting how everything I was quoted at the dealership was unnecessary.  I really trust this place.

I have had two excellent experiences at Ashland Tire & Auto. The first, I feared my 2003 Nissan Sentra was leaking coolant. They ran a system pressure check, found no leaks, and didn't charge me a penny.

I returned in March 2012 when my soon-to-be wife's 2003 Civic developed a rumbling noise while turning. We were leaving for our wedding the following day, and car trouble added to our stress. David, the owner, said he would get the car in and not to worry. We needed new brake pads and rotors. He quoted me $275 and the actual price tag was $266. Ashland Tire & Auto has reasonable prices, timely service, and amazing customer service.

I never lifted a finger swapping out my summer tires for the winter set. They installed them effortlessly and even bagged the summer tires so that it could be placed in my car (even though we had laid down towels and mats in the car).

I will make this short and to the point. Out of all the places I have gone to get tires mounted and balanced, I never went back to them. And for a good reason. Not only will I be going back to Ashland Tire & Auto, but I strongly recommend you give them your business.

I literally called 30 minutes ahead of time to see if they could fit me in. They said "absolutely... we can have you out the door in 30-45 minutes." At that point I was skeptical. It always took 1-1.5 hours at every other place I had been to and that was with an appointment.

They had me out the door as promised within maybe 35 minutes. I always had the attention of the staff when speaking to them. They were respectful and upbeat.  And when all was said and done the work was excellent. It's refreshing to see a shop operate like this. I have never taken the time to write a review, only to read up about other places, but I was so happy with my service that I told myself to make it a point this time.

Having a car in Chicago can really suck.  And having your car in Chicago break down is worse.  You have your choice between hundreds of scam artist-drug front-independent repair shops, or that third-world Sears on Lawrence Ave.

Ashland Tires & Auto to the rescue.

By far the best service I've ever had at an auto repair place.  They were incredibly honest, quick, friendly, professional and fair.  Super knowledgeable -- car doctors, really.

THANK YOU Ashland Tire & Auto.  While I hope that I don't have to see you for a while, I know that should something happen to my Mazda -- you'll be there to bring it back into working order.

I took my 1996 Accord here to get an oil change and to have it checked out. I plan on putting a lot more miles on it starting soon, and I didn't want any surprise check engine light coming on!

Their prices are a little high (about $38 for oil change). However, I had a tire patched here about 2 years ago and it held up really well, so if that's any indication then I think they're worth the extra money for good service.

The service: fast, efficient, reliable. The technician called and gave me a list of items to be aware of. I appreciated the fact that he didn't try to terrify me into fixing everything (i.e. "your car will explode if you don't! I'm surprised you even got here in it!"). He actually said "we can fix all of it or none of it, but you wanted us to tell you so I am". Zero pressure actually led me to be more open minded about opening my wallet.

The work: Well, how hard could it be to change the oil and throw some new tires on it? I do have confidence that if something were to happen as a result of bad workmanship that I could take it back and they would at least hear me out. I don't fear them going out of business, etc either.

The extras: I came back to get it (earlier than expected) and had a sack of groceries with me...the owner(?) actually walked me to where the car was parked and carried my stuff. A gesture that I took as sincere, and just a little touch to make you feel appreciated as a customer.

The verdict: You may pay a little more but I think the peace of mind is worth it. They seemed to treat my car like they cared about the person who would be driving it.

Woooooohoooooo!!  I found a place to take my car which is honest, reliable, timely, helpful, nice, friendly, reasonable, convenient - I'm sure I'm leaving a lof out.

My husband actually found this place when he had to take his car in...he found it on Yelp of course.  With this many rave reviews it would almost be silly to not give them a try.

The tire pressure light has been on in my car, literally since I purchased it in 2008.  I have taken it to SEVERAL places to get looked at (including the dealer) and they always said my sensor was just off and nothing was wrong with the tires.

Well, my tires were still deflating so clearly there is a problem but I had taken it in so many times with the same response.  I finally gave in and took it to Ashland Tire & Auto and boooy am I glad I did!

I checked my bank account to prepare for, what I thought was the inevitable, purchasing of new tires.  All set...drove the car in and dropped it off.  The men working behind the counter were incredibly nice.

Just a few hours later, we get the call it can be picked up.  Turns out I DON'T need new tires, and my tire sensors are NOT broken...rather...3 of 4 valves on my tires are leaking air.

They took the time to explain it to me, in fact, showed me the part and what it looked like and how the air was escaping.

I had my oil changed and 3 tires repaired ALL for under $200!  My car is running great, I feel safe with the wicked winter approaching, and I will be a loyal customer of Ashland Tire & Auto going forward (hopefully not a regular though).

Honest, reliable service! I was appalled to find my temperature warning light turning on and off randomly, so I went over to Ashland tire (referred by Yelp, of course) to get it checked out. Turns out, along with the coolant housing having a leak in it, I had a host of other problems (rusted brake rotor, bald tires, timing belt needed to be replaced). I know, it sounds like the typical mechanic schpiel.. but it wasn't! I got everything done for under $1500 (the person who sold the car to me had already put in at least $3k in repairs because he bought it used as is). Since then, my car has been running great and my tires are brand new.

In addition, the guys there are really friendly, they take the time to explain everything, and give you a breakdown and progress updates regularly. Reliable and nice? Yay!

Getting new tires at Ashland Tire was the best car-repair experience I've ever had.

About a year ago, I randomly met Pat (I think he's one of the owners) at Otom and we got to chatting about tires and my wife mentioned she had just gotten new tires on her car (not from Ashland Tire). Pat said she had paid too much and Ashland Tire would've charged a lot less. I took down Pat's info and filed it away.

This morning, I decided to take the easy route and went to a Firestone nearest to my house to get tires for my SUV. Surprisingly, Firestone didn't have any tires in the size my car takes. Not only did that Firestone didn't have the size but NONE of the Firestones in the area had any. Wow. The guy at Firestone was showing me on his screen how stock was "0" and I happen to notice that the price of all 4 tires would have been about $1,450.

I remembered I had Pat's contact and drove up to Ashland Tire. I walked in, reminded Pat we had previously met (which he also remembered) and told him what I needed. He walked out to my car, recommended a certain tire, said it'll be 40 minutes and $1,045 installed, with tax, out the door.

    Done.

I heard the dreaded metal-on-metal grinding noise of my brakes when I came to a red light last week.  I knew what had to be done, but hated the idea of taking it in to an expensive dealer or potentially swindling mechanic.  What to do?  So I turned to Yelp for help.  I have been remiss in writing many reviews, but I read and rely on them religiously.

So I called Ashland Tire & Auto earlier this week to schedule the appointment.  The gentleman I spoke to was both professional and courteous.  We discussed my problem, and I was all set to drop my car off this morning for the repairs.  Pat called approximately 3 hours later with a very reasonable estimate (given I needed both front and rear brake pad replacement), and the car was fixed by 4:00 this afternoon.

When I picked up the car, I spoke to Jack who could not have been more pleasant and appreciative of my business.  The repairs were $100 less than the quoted estimate and I was on my way.

Thank you Ashland Tire & Auto for taking such good care of me.  My brakes work well and I am at peace.  Thank you Yelp universe for steering me (pun intended) in the right direction.  I hope to return the favor in the future!

These guys ROCK!!!  I took my car in for wobbly tires, and they did a FREE inspection, rotated for me and didn't try to sell me new tires because I didn't need them.  This really took me aback, but it turns out that they don't work on commission, so they are truly only interested in keeping their customers happy and doing good work.

Place this in STARK contrast against the next day when I took my car down to Fletcher Jones for an oil change that I already had scheduled.  I walked into the service center and it was filled with SALES guys, trying to push expensive services.  I declined them, but the poor woman next to me was being convinced that she needed these cleaned for $189.00 and that flushed for $160.00 - and I actually heard the old scare tactics "If you don't do it, you're looking at REALLY costly repairs down the line." YUCK.

I promise you that from now on, I will be taking my car to Ashland Tire and Auto for every oil change and service.  I used to think that to keep your car in the best condition, you had to go to the dealership for all service - but now I think that what you really need is an honest, trustworthy place that does good work.  SO glad that I found that!

My friend's parents live across the auto shop and he actually has been serviced by them. That and with the high reviews of the yelp crowd, I decided I would come here to get the dreaded car maintenance done.

I ordered my new tires, brake pads, and rotors from tire rack and had them sent to the shop. Once I got the confirmation indicating that they have arrived I phone them to set up a appointment. Since I wasn't sure how busy they would be, I wanted it set up for Sat morning of that week, in which case, they told me to drop the car off Friday night. After some thought and last game decision, I called them up Friday afternoon if it was okay that I bring it in early Sat and also asked permission to be present while my car is getting worked on - who wants to be car-less if they don't have to. Sure enough they said it was fine and that I can "rock on" while they work.

I brought it first thing in the morning, a bigger plus, they were open before the schedule time of 7am. Being the curious nut that I am, I asked again that they call me when they start on my car. Since I was to be a photographer for my friend's kid's bday party, I happen to have my dSLR camera. Naturally, I started snapping away while my car was hoisted up on a lift. A majority of the time, most shops will tell you to go away when they are working on your car. I was really happy and glad that they not only were cool with it, they were cool with me being around, asking questions and taking photos. I did get some pretty cool artsy shots, and one of the guys joked that these pictures better end up in a magazine.

Like the typical auto shop experience, things don't always go as planned. One of the brake pads didn't fit, not to mention other problems. These guys showed me every fault and demonstrated the fault. No hiding here and I work in the automotive industry. At the end, they just charged me for hours worked and the parts, and I even got a rebate for the brake pad.

So the moral of the story is, these guys are cool.

Took my truck to get new 4 tires there and very happy with the level of service i received there. Found them here on yelp with others recommendations. I looked around and another tire shop on McCormick Ave was giving me the run around and wanted to make me wait 3 hours at their location. Called these guys up and they got the tires within an hour. When they got them they called me and went in to replace them. The whole process took about 40 minutes and couldnt be happier. These tires ride like a dream. They changed the whole experience of driving the truck. When it snowed last time in chicago, even buses were hitting curbs and sliding all over the place. These tires kept going staright and never slid once with them. These tires were the Cooper AT3 and am buying them again once they wear out. I'm also taking my friends to this place!!!

They are very fast, honest, and the best deal around!  I have had tire work done by them before, but recently needed brake pads and rotors replaced.  I called around, and they were the most reasonably priced.  They never push anything that isn't needed.  I'm glad I have found a mechanic shop that I can trust!!

I always dread having my car looked at for pretty much any problem, so when I found a bulge in one of my tires, I was not excited to take it in. I saw this place on my way to work every day, and after looking up the reviews, decided to try it out. Boy am I glad I did.

I just bought this car a month ago, so the tires were quite new; however, I was still anticipating the "you should get all new tires," speech, or at least two new ones as most places would have you believe. These guys were so wonderful--they suggested that I buy only one of the exact same tire, since the others were all still practically brand new anyways, and move it to the back so it didn't affect my steering. They did this in less than 15 minutes, and it was one of the cheapest transactions related to my car that I've ever had.

All in all, these guys are fast, efficient, so friendly, and they tell you what you need, not what will get you to spend the most money. I'm never planning on going to another car or tire shop again!

Imagine - going to a tire store actually being a pleasure!  I made the mistake of taking my car to Just Tires on Broadway to repair a flat.  It took them over 2 hours, and then a week later that tire was flat again.  So I wised up and brought my car here.

The guy who looked over my tires seemed highly competent and professional, friendly and trustworthy.  Based on his advice, I replaced 2 of my 11 year-old tires that were suffering from dry rot and worn tread.  It took Ashland only 45 minutes to fit the new tires (and rotate my old ones while they were at it).  It's such a pleasure to go to an auto store of any kind and not have to worry about feeling screwed.

I really thought that my level of satisfaction from Ashland Tire & Auto couldn't go any higher.  They have always been honest and fast with fair pricing.  How could that get any better?

Fast forward to this past Monday when I had to leave town in a hurry to make it to a funeral in Michigan.  Of course the second I got word that I had to leave, my car went on the fritz.  That is just what cars do right?  Add to that the fact that I was long due for new brakes and belts, and you have a full blown problem.

My husband called and explained what was going on with the car and was told that it was likely the battery.  He was told that though they were too swamped that day to do the brakes or belts, that they could squeeze us in for the battery exchange.

I drove the car to the shop right when they opened and got in the line for the vehicle drop off.  When the kind gentlemen came up asking what I was there for, I began to explain what we were told on the phone.  The problem?  Given the stress of  a funeral on top of what was happening with that car (and probably due in some small part to the fact that I am a girl) I started bawling.  Full blown sobbing people, it was NOT pretty.

Rather than stare at me like I had gone bananas (though they were well within their right), they helped me.  They ushered my car into their garage where they inspected it.  The news was not good.  I did need an new battery AND because of my procrastination, the belts and brakes were in really bad shape and I was told that they might make it to Michigan, but it was not a guarantee.

Faced with the knowledge that they didn't have time to do anything more than the battery that day, I was seriously concerned about making it to Michigan.

If I had taken my car to another mechanic, that might be where the story ended, with me crying my eyes out on the sidewalk stranded in Chicago or at another mechanic that I don't know or trust taking advantage of a person in need.  Luckily, I wasn't at just some auto mechanic.

The guys there went above and beyond to help me out.  They squeezed me in for that day and actually had my car done and back to me much earlier than they even anticipated.

To say that Ashland Tire & Auto saved the day would be an understatement.  If there was ever a doubt about them being my only auto mechanic in the future (there wasn't... but still) it is gone now.  You simply can't touch their level of service.  To me, the way a company treats their customers is the reason I go back, and that is why I will continue to go back here!

I'm only giving Ashland Tire & Auto 4 stars instead of 5 because I ended up not actually having to have anything fixed by them!  I took my car here because my brakes had been making a lot of noise for a couple months.  I had just had my brakes replaced in the last 6 months and didn't see how anything could be wrong with them.  However, I was getting ready for a long Labor Day weekend road trip and wanted to make sure I was safe.  Ashland Tire & Auto was able to squeeze me in at the last minute that Sat morning.  Luckily they checked my brakes and nothing was wrong other than the company who sold them to me sold me a pair of noisy ones.  They didn't charge me a thing, just sent me on my way and told me they hoped I'd be back soon.

After an enjoyable customer service experience, I definitely will be.

I had to get two tires repaired and went here based on the reviews I read. Everything i read was true, they were fast, extremely personable, and fixed two tire sensors and a cracked stem for about $150 less than anywhere else that I called. All in about 30 minutes.
This will be my new "go to" place.
