As a resident of Ashland, I appreciate the Ashland Springs Hotel for really setting the mood of the downtown area.  It's such a gorgeous space that I've chosen the hotel as my wedding venue.  The staff of both the hotel and the adjoining restaurant have been an enormous help during the planning process.  The hotel makes the perfect wedding venue, as the guests are able to enjoy three separate spaces for each segment of the celebration - the gardens for the ceremony, the conservatory for the cocktail hour, and the ballroom for the reception.

While I personally am not a subscriber of Scientologist principles, I think it's kind of unfortunate that the hotel is getting less-than-stellar reviews due to the religious beliefs of its owners.  Yes, everyone has the right to their own beliefs about religious activities, but I think it's a little unfair to slander the reputation of a local business simply because you don't agree with the owner's religious affiliation.  I'm sure you wouldn't dare make such negative remarks if the owner's were Jewish or Christian, so I would urge you to not pass judgment on others so abruptly.

Yelp reviews are supposed to be based on the quality of service and presentation, not on your personal feelings about a particular religious group.  There are plenty of businesses - both local and worldwide - that are run by owners who follow questionable doctrines, but it is inappropriate to judge the business primarily on one's religious belief.

Either way, I think the Ashland Springs Hotel is absolutely gorgeous.  I hear that it was a stinky, run-down wreck before the current owners refurbished the place.  My mother says that the rooms were a little small for her taste, but I hear that some rooms tend to  be slightly bigger than others.

A lovely hotel right in the heart of Ashland's historic downtown, mere blocks from the Shakespeare Festival. Friendly staff, beautiful building, etc. etc. So why did I give it one star?

Part of being a conscientious consumer is knowing whether the money we spend at a particular business may end up supporting causes with which we do or do not agree. For that reason, I think it is fair to inform all of you out there in Yelpland who are considering a stay at the Ashland Springs Hotel that this particular establishment is owned by practicing members of the Church of Scientology. There are copies of L. Ron Hubbard's own "The Way to Happiness" in every room, tucked in right next to the Gideons Bible. Given that Scientologists pay for religious services and make donations to the church, it is reasonable to believe that money spent at the Ashland Springs may end up in the Church of Scientology's coffers.

I feel that by staying at the Ashland Springs Hotel, my family inadvertently donated money to an organization whose practices we abhor, and my rating reflects the disappointment I felt when I found that tract in my nightstand. If you have no problem with Scientology or want to support the Church, feel free to tack an additional three stars onto my rating - my complaints are secondary to your travel needs, and it is a genuinely nice hotel. Otherwise, I strongly urge you to stay at any of the other quality hotels near downtown Ashland.

I unexpectedly stayed at this hotel and thought it was great. We got a great "walk in" rate and enjoyed our stay every much. Our room was small..but that was obvious before we walked in. You don't stay at a vintage hotel if you want space.  We had a great view and a fab time in Ashland.

Before we decided to move to the US,  the husband and I made the drive back and forth between Vancouver BC and San Diego more than once. Because I am the Martha Stewart excessive planner type, I spend weeks researching a trip and try to find fun things to do and interesting places to stay en route.

I came up with the Ashland Springs because I dig vintage style hotels - especially those without the vintage style price tag to go along with it. It's centrally located in Ashland, so there are some great shops / cafes / theatres within walking distance.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, but they are *small*.  I know that this is common in older European hotels, but I would prefer a bit more space in which to spread out my shoe collection  - my footmobile is my friend and I like to treat her right.  The husband and I like each other so we don't mind bumping heads as we try to get dressed, but those of you who need more personal space may want to give this one a miss.

True to a lot of European style hotels, our room was classy and comfortable--but also very small.  But, for less than $100 a night on a Friday night, I didn't feel cheated by the small size.

The hotel's natural history theme is right up my ally, the amenities in the rooms seemed high end, and the staff was very friendly.

One point off because I'd have specified, and paid more for, a tub in my room had I known that it wasn't standard (ours had a small shower).

I go to Ashland once or twice a year to see the shows and have stayed at various places.  I absolutely love the location of this hotel.  It is on the main street a couple of blocks from the OSF theatres and a few doors down from the Varsity Theatre which is the epicenter of the Ashland Independent Film Festival every spring.  However, this was the smallest hotel room I've ever had in the States.  It is a renovated historic hotel and I got a Queen room.  There was barely enough room to walk around the bed! That being said, the room was cute and staff were lovely during my stay.

I was there during the Ashland Film Festival so there were lots of actors and directors at the hotel or in the conference rooms for the event.  I ended up here because I got a great web rate (it was right after the renovation was complete I think), but when I tried to stay the next year, the rate had doubled.

The continental breakfast was very nice here.  The breakfast room is on the second floor overlooking the beautiful lobby.  I love the restored elegance of the common areas of the hotel.

I love this quaint hotel. The decor is soft and neutral, making it a place of refuge. It's right on Main Street with theatres and boutique shops steps outside the door. When I walk into the lobby, I feel like I'm coming home.

Cons: The rooms/bathrooms are small, but that is to be expected in an historic hotel. Also, they allow pets, so I could hear a dog barking on my last visit.

It's a very pretty European style hotel conveniently located a few blocks away from the theatres. It's a beautiful historical building that you can't miss when you are in downtown Ashland. (The elevator feels and sounds very historical too.) I really liked the decor and the atmosphere of the hotel.

But I must say I wasn't very happy with their service. Even though the check-in time was supposed to be 3:00pm, we weren't able to check in till 7:00pm because the previous guests requested a late check-out. They said that they paid to stay later, but so did we. We might be just unlucky, but I would hesitate to recommend this hotel after this experience since there're so many other accommodations around.

The adjoining restaurant "LARKS" is highly recommended!

This is a supercool, historic hotel situated on a quaint main street in the middle of Ashland. The general theme of the hotel evokes a natural history museum, with botanical samples adorning the halls and rooms. I guess you could say it's a boutique hotel, minus the hipsters. The views from the rooms are beautiful, providing panoramic views of the surrounding hills. I've stayed here twice -- both times on Christmas Eve. The town is essentially dead between Christmas and New Years, so we were able to a get a half-price rate to stay in the Supermondoluxe Room. Score!

We had a lovely stay in this charming old hotel.  We booked and paid for a queen, but were in a king -- which was pleasant and spacious.  Sometimes older hotels can be noisy, but this was really quiet and we didn't hear anything from the corridor or adjoining rooms.  I'd definitely stay there again.
