    Best game in town.

In an era where even minor league ball is going corporate and upscale, it's nice to know that there are still places and teams that are truly part of the community--McCormick Field and the Tourists are good examples. The stadium doesn't seat more than a few thousand, so you get the intimacy missing from so many of the megaparks.

The seats are downright cheap, and the concessions are reasonable. The announcer and the music/crowd-rousing sound effects are actually better than at many big-time ballparks! The park is also easy to get to and get out from, and parking is free. It's also completely handicap-accessible. Can't beat it.

My only beef? The program didn't include a score sheet. That's OK--I'll bring my own from home next time. /baseball geek

This is the way god meant us to enjoy baseball. True, the Asheville Tourists are a Class A team, but in a small park like this you get this great vibe going with everyone. You can hear everyone chatting with their neighbor. The you can hear the coaches on the field yelling up to the coaches in the press box. The player's wives are milling about gossiping with each other and the team mascot.  You can year the ball players yukking it up when things are going good and cursing a blue streak when things aren't going so good. The bally playing is, um, a hit or miss affair, but that just adds to the fun. Everyone in the ball park from the press box to the field still remembers that it's all a game and everyone is there for fun.

Tickets are cheap. Concessions reasonable. Lots of between the innings hi-jinks for the kids.

So I had a long weekend in Asheville recently and decided to take in a Tourist game.

Still a solid level of entertainment at an affordable price.

    THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!!!

This place is small town baseball done right.  Reasonable ticket prices, yummy, affordable concessions and plenty of fun little diversions.

I like how some of the bleachers are just concrete blocks so you can bring your own blankets/folding chairs and create your own little comfy baseball nest.

My husband caught me a teeshirt launched into the crowd via slingshot! I love my new Nestle Quik ringer tee!

Whether you are a casual fan, a hardcore baseball enthusiast... or a tourist yourself... there are few better 'home grown' Asheville attractions than to attend an Asheville Tourists game at McCormick Field.

The Tourists are a Class 'A' Minor League Baseball team in the South Atlantic League, and a farm team for the Colorado Rockies. Considering the general lack of local sporting events in WNC, the Tourists have carved out a firm place in the hearts of local residents - not to mention boasting an impressive history of their own.

You can attend a solidly entertaining home game for less than you would pay to see a movie these days. Expect all the usual audience interaction, ambiance and fun that good baseball clubs provide.

A wide range of vendors (and beers on tap) are operating at McCormick Field. Also, the Merchandise shop is loaded with a surprisingly wide variety of quality souvenirs. I wear the black 'A' hat just to represent Asheville.

McCormick Field, one of the oldest baseball stadiums in use is one of the best as well. The staff are friendly, and are great to work with for group outings, throwing in perks and extra tickets as well. The prices are fair. However, if you're in to the beer scene in Beer City USA, you need to come on The Original Thirsty Thursday, with 1 dollar domestics and internationals, and 2 dollar local brews from the best microbreweries in the business. The experience is great during Tourist games, with a lot of interaction with fans and lots of giveaways. McCormick field is an essential stop if you're a baseball fan or you're in to cheap entertainment. One of my favorite things to do in Asheville.
