I had just arrived to Asheville and needed some food.  My stomach settled on the Meathead pizza despite my heart's plea for something healthier.  The pizza was decent and was more enjoyable because I was hungry.

I also tried their beer sampler and enjoyed a decent selection.  The lager was tasty.  I also loved their setting.  The outdoor setup was great for people watching.  And there was a bean bag board for some gaming.

Originally, the customer service was a little slow as a tour group had just finished up there.  Nonetheless, it was annoying.

Great beer, great food, great service....and movies. What more can you ask for?

You need to be sure and get there early to secure your tickets on weekends (for the movies) so you can enjoy a great spin on dinner and a movie.

The staff is friendly, attentive and efficient. Add in some great, locally brewed beers and some awesome pizzas and other great items (the quesadillas are very, very good).

Often referred to by locals as the "Brew and View" because that was its original name. Located in a renovated old movie theater, there's an active brewery, theater showing second-run flicks, and a large game room. The pizza is an excellent example of the thick crust type, and the menu also features some excellent sandwiches and pub fare. Families are welcome and it attracts people from all age groups. Beers are excellent, especially the Shiva IPA and the stout. There's a service point inside the theater so you don't have to miss part of the movie when getting your food or another beer.

You MUST make a reservation for the 7pm or 10pm weekend movies, they sell out fast! We were lucky enough to put our name on a wait-list and snatch someone's sell-backs 20 min before the movie started but get your seats early, otherwise you'll be sitting at the bar by the kitchen like us!

I've never seen anything like Asheville's Dine-In Theatre: part drive-In, part groovy pizza restaurant and SO MUCH FUN... I wish we had something like this in Atlanta! The prices can't be beat and the pizza is delicious. I love that you can place your order before/during the movie and they'll just shout out your name, mid-movie, when it's ready. Beers on tap, tables in front, movie theatre seating. Genius.

Delicious with a capital D! We ordered the spinach and feta and it was perfect gourmet pizza: not too oily and crispy crust. Beers are some of the best we have ever had; having lived in the PNW for a while, that says a lot! Waiter was helpful and cheery.

I absolutely love coming here when I visit Asheville. I love the funky atmosphere and the cheap movies plus great food and beer make for a fun evening. I really enjoyed my pizza and I love their brews. Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co. offers one of my favorite porters that I've tried to this point. The Ninja porter has a great chocolate finish but isn't too heavy like some porters. The Shiva IPA is also an awesome choice.

Delicious beer - the Rocket Girl is freakin' badass.

Yummy pizza - I'm dying to try the California Dreamin' but I need someone else to get it with me. So far I've just mimicked it (plus artichoke hearts) on a by-the-slice and it's been pretty damn good.

Epic environment - like the rest of Asheville, there are more hippies here than you can shake a stick at, and the art(?) all over the place is awesome. The theater is possibly the most ingenious invention ever, and I am seriously bitter that Florida has nothing like this.

I can't think of a better way to spend a rainy evening than to catch the 10pm flick with pizza and beer at this place. It's THE way to go.

So I forgot to included on my first review of this establishment that this building use to be a twin movie theater and one that I waited in line for HOURS to get tickets to the first Star Wars movie and which I also came back and watched the same movie 10 more times......yes I paid for and watched the same movie 10 times +.  The only time in my life..........and I was young..........yes, I'm going to blame it on being young.......that is what I'm going to do.

But APBC has morphed into something better....a brewhouse that shows movies for cheap.  Get there early for a show, eat outside if you can and enjoy the Northside of my hometown.

I do love Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company dearly. Don't think the 4 star review means I don't love it with the strength of a 5 star. I just thought I should be honest about the food. In fact I'd give the food a 3 star review. It ain't gourmet. That's for sure. In fact, the pizza, is, well decent. The comment about pizza and sex being good even when its bad, well . . . look its not "bad" Ok, but you get the point.

As I said tho, I do dearly love this place, always have. It makes me warm and happy inside just to go, for some reason it always brings up the warm memories and feelings of going to Summer camp as a kid in WNC for me. I don't know why. Ha! I think it might have something to do with all my college age counselors being the kind of physical embodiment of this place. The mix of the collegiate/hippy-but-southern/slightly-uncouth/edu cated-and-progressive-in-its-own-frisbee-throwing- kind-of-way elements are I think what does it for me.
The servers are great too and kind of like said counselors. :)

And I just love the $3 movies too. The theater is great with its funky seating and concession bar inside the theater itself serving beer and pizza. Just love it. (Could do without the shouting out of names though when the food is up. Although I think they may have remedied this with little buzzers recently though if I remember correctly)
And the food is fine really, good even, and generally great value.

The lunch pizza buffet in particular is a really great value. Especially if you are hungry. I particularly like all the options on the salad bar that is included in the pizza buffet. AND! They had really delicious red velvet cake out as well as their usual ice cream with multiple toppings out on the dessert bar that is included too. And that cake was good! Man, you really can't beat the buffet value here. I do recommend not getting there before around noonish however, because that's usually when the fresh pizzas start coming out. Not that that is a big deal though, who has lunch before noon anyway?

Decent microbrews, rad movies and good food.

The waitstaff was crazy nice and I liked the environment. Their jalapeno-infused beer was fantastic. They didn't have many vegan options but going to a pizza place that isn't a surprise!

Next time I visit I'll definitely plan out the time to watch a movie too :)

My first review was a bit too brief, so I thought I'd write with a more details about this terrific, fun place after a couple of recent visits.

I've been to both locations, and both have their charms: both have wonderful outdoor seating areas and a fun atmosphere with plenty of video games and  movies to keep you entertained. I had a great time while waiting for food playing some of the shooting and driving games at my last stop, with a couple of local friends.

We've tried a few different kinds of pizza, and all have been great - buffalo chicken and margarita are the best. Garlic knots (called doh knots here) are really fantastic - chewy and super garlicy.

There are several different and fantastic kinds of beer brewed on-site - the Shiva IPA is my favorite, but the Ninja is also excellent. Wish they bottled their brews, because we would take home a bunch.

This is a must-stop location for us whenever we visit Asheville - it's a legit priority. Don't miss it!

Part of the Asheville Brewery scene...and a huge part of the parents scene.  It is like a Chucky Cheeses, but for hipsters with children.  Craft beers, a huge game room with big screen cartoons on in one room.  A second huge part that is a movie theater that you can order pizza and beer in.  WHAAAAT!  NICE!

And the pizza is really good too. I like Dark beers. Love the Ninja Porter and Scout Stout.  GREAT IPA too and Houdine ESP is bitter and yummy.

So, the first time I came here 6 or 7 years ago, I remember being very impressed, but this past time, not so much.  Might have just been an off night, who knows.

Service was not good at all.  We told the hostess we wanted to sit outside, could not be seen from inside, and it took at least 10 minutes before our server came to the table.  This might have been forgiveable, but it kept happening.  She took our drink orders, disappeared for another 10 minutes, and when she finally came back she still didn't have our drinks.  At one point I went inside to try to find her, and still couldn't find her.  She was pleasant enough, but evidently just very unorganized and forgetful.

The decor was OK.  That kind of slightly garish, hippie look.  It was pretty loud inside, which is why we chose to sit outside.  But the tables outside are right in front of the front doors, so we were almost sitting in the parking lot, with cars going by and people constantly walking past to get to the front door.  Odd set-up.

I came here this time because I remember their pizza being very good.  It wasn't bad this time, just not the amazing slice of pie I remembered.  Had the California Dreamin' pizza (mushrooms, feta and SD tomatoes).  Its hard to call something with feta and SD's bland, but it just wasn't as delicious as it could have been.  The rest of the menu is very vegetarian friendly.  About half of their pies are veggie, with some veg-sammies, quesadillas and pasta, plus apps and salads, so lots to choose from.  Probably won't come back, but if I did I would check out their Spinach Burger, sounds tasty.  Prices are about average, though as with most gourmet/specialty pizzas, can get a little pricey, but not bad.

They brew their own beer here, but its just typical.  In my review for Foothills in Winston-Salem, I went into a little more depth about this sort of brewery, so read that if you want to.  Basically good for beginners just wanting to learn the styles, but otherwise fairly generic.

As I said at the top of this review, this might have just been a bad night, so I wouldn't discourage others from going there, but I probably won't be back.

I wish we had more places like this in Charlotte.  Whereas Asheville is artsy, hippy, and college-oriented, most of Charlotte is just too yuppified for something like this (excepting a few small places like NoDa).  If it's not in a new, huge, brick shopping center, most people in Charlotte won't eat there.  Anyway, my wife and I scored a sweet deal on tickets to Biltmore and had never gone together, while she had only been when she was little.  After spending most of the day there, we ventured into downtown Asheville to hopefully eat Tupelo Honey Cafe.  Unfortunately, downtown was packed due to festival, concert, and hundreds of refugees - I mean evacuees - from New England to the Carolina coast trying to escape Irene's wrath.  The wait was just too long, so we decided to go to the original Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company.  Thankfully Asheville is not very big, so we were only 2 miles from this location near UNC Asheville.

The place sits at the back of a parking lot behind a couple of other businesses so it's kind of hard to see.  There is a little patio out front, and many people were out there waiting for the 10 o'clock showing of "The Hangover 2."  Yes, they have a theater in here too and most movies cost only $3, but they also show some foreign films and retro films too.  We walked in and were somewhat reminded of a Mellow Mushroom - or at least what the original MM is probably like.  It's seat yourself, so we found a table and were waited on quickly.  The place is "rough around the edges" but still clean, with a 97 sanitation grade.  We perused the list of beers made by them and I went with a flight - most were typical of what's popular now - IPAs, Stout, Porter, etc.  However, one was a beer brewed with jalapenios.  It was actually tasty, but burned the throat a little bit.  The beers were all good, and $6.75 for a flight of five 5 ounce samples was a decent deal.  We ordered a jumbo 18" in moon pie, which was awesome.  Again, I'll have to compare it to a MM especially for people who have not been to APBC just to give and idea of what they style of pizza is like.  Fresh, thin but not too thin dough, baked in a real, and topped with spinach and artichokes - it was pretty tasty.  The price was a tad steep at $20, but it was good and we got 2 meals a each out of it.

We were really happy we decided to go here, and likely would have watched the movie if we weren't heading back home.  We will definitely go back next time we are in the area, so if you're up this way, check it out.

I'm not sure why the pizza got voted the best in Asheville. I don't think I'll ever trust the reader polls. Anyway, I do love the place in the sense that you can eat and watch a movie. Great place to take the kids. But I was really disappointed in the pizza. Next time I will try something different on the menu.

Wasn't too impressed with the service. Our waiter didn't write anything down & there were 2 major mistakes with our meal. Whether it was the kitchen or a bad memory I don't know.

I don't know if it's the restaurants policy to not allow their servers to write down orders, but they want to rethink that if it is.

    Food was good though
I would definitely give it another shot, and I was excited to see that they show movies.

The Moon Pie is the best pizza I've ever had...hands down! I wish they'd package it so I could get a taste out west.

I visited the downtown location this summer & loved being able to sit outside with my pooch. The IPA is also delish & I found the twenty to thirty-something crowd just my speed.

Will definitely stop by for pizza & beer on my next visit. It's this place & 12 Bones Smokehouse when I'm in Ashetown.

Man, I don't know how I missed this one. Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co. is a great spot that in addition to offering pizza and beer also offers movies! The walls are adorned with tiles from gazillions of films. This would make a great first date place. One would never run out of topics of conversation and if you did, just stuff some pizza in your face. Very tasty, funky decor, nice people working there and easy parking. Priced well too. Go and enjoy!

Oh, Asheville P&B Co, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

    1) $2 movies. Seriously, this is worth the 4 stars alone. I got to see the second run of a movie I sadly missed seeing on the big screen and you saved me from having to buy a giant TV to make up for it. $2. Where I live, that's what you have to pay just to get to the movie theater. And the projection and sound were good, just like at the full priced theaters.

    2) You make your own beer (!), which you will let me drink while watching the movie! And at reasonable prices. Normally, I can only sneak maybe 2 beers into the average theater, and then I get either bottle or can taste anyway. But you serve in pint glasses (the only way this snob will drink the stuff), and do not frown upon my desire to have a whole pitcher with my movie. The only downside is having to wait on the long line at the start of the movie to get said beer. This would have been a 5 star review had I known how popular you are. Please note, newcomers should arrive about 30 min before the film starts to secure a seat and get food before the opening credits roll. Also, pitchers require at least 2 IDs (more if you need more glasses).

    3) Despite being "sold out," after some convincing, you let me and my dad buy tickets anyway. You weren't really sold out, but it was true that we couldn't get a table to sit at (for the uninitiated, the theater is essentially a normal theater with ever other row taken out and replaced by tables). You were very kind because I was willing to come back the next day. I had to sit in the front, where there were no tables, but I was happy to get in. I won't fault you here because it was a Friday night, and the first showing of the new movie you had and I should have planned better.

    4) You don't just serve pizza. Very clutch to me, since I am lactose intolerant. While I can't comment on any of the food other than the french fries, all the pizzas I did see looked good, and pizza in a movie is more novel than beer in a movie, at least to me, who knows how to sneak a beer into other theaters, but not a slice.

    5) I went to see a western, and the guy at the register had a full out cowboy costume on, which added to the fun factor. Sadly, he was a little slow and a little rude to me. He apologized for the slow, but not the rude.

-1) The only thing keeping you from being a 5 star review was the yelling of names for people to get the orders *during* the movie. While that may keep the staffing down (no servers walking up and down, which also would be distracting), I'm sure that anyone who needs that second pizza during the film can wait in the back of the auditorium where the bar is until it's done a few minutes later (you know, kind of like at a real bar). Yelling orders before credits roll is still perfectly acceptable. But by halfway through the movie, I stopped noticing yells. I don't know if that was my acclimation to it, or it really stopped.

So how many ways do I love thee? My total comes to four. I'll be back next time I come to town.

I was recently hired in Asheville, NC for a job; after another successful mission I decided to have dinner before headed back to Atlanta. I had heard about this Pizza place that served a local brew called "Ninja Porter" after laughing about it (everyone wants to be cool like a ninja) I gave these guys a visit. The place has a theatre so the dining area is decorated with various film motifs. I seated myself and read the beer menu, the waiter arrived and I immediately noticed the "ninja" shirt that he was wearing; someone must tell these people that you do not advertise to the world that you are a ninja! On the other hand they aren't real ninja, just posers trying to be cool; just for that I felt like dicing him right there so the rest of the staff would learn the lesson but I calmed down and regained my composure.

I ordered a Ninja Porter of course, that's the only reason I went there to begin with; I was surprised on how tasty this brew was, I bought a couple of 22's to take back to Atlanta.  I also ordered a pie, it was pretty good pizza, not excellent but not bad either just nothing really special with the exception of the brews of course. This place kinda reminded me of Fellini's in Atlanta but with the movies and home brews twist.

I'll rate it 3 stars because I think Mellow Mushroom has better pizza and the staff with the "ninja" shirts annoyed me... ninjas... BAH! not everyone can be as cool and skilled like me.

    out *poof*

I'm really surprised by the bad reviews on here. Yeah, maybe you can't see your reflection in the floor, but the bathrooms are fine and the kitchen is clean.

This place is Asheville funky - old posters, photos of the staff, remote control wall, movie murals, fun house mirrors, great table themes..

And the pizza is awesome! The moon pie and sheer delight are both amazing! I admit, I've never had anything here but pizza and nachos - so maybe the pasta dishes and sandwiches aren't great, but it's a PIZZA place!

And can you really beat $3 movies and delicious beer? The food and the prices beat Cinnebarre any day!

I'm not a big fan of their pizza. It's good but sometimes it has a reheated taste.

The atmosphere is interesting, though a bit on the dark side (and not just because a Star Wars mural graces one wall). It's usually quite loud inside, so not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet meal.

I will say... the chicken teriyaki wings are fantastic! Also the lunch buffet is cheap.

Every time I try a new "food+beer+movies" place, I struggle not to compare it with Austin's Alamo Drafthouse. It was my favorite place to be in that town near 8 years running, but Asheville's 'Brew and View' has a different take on the whole experience that I think works well.

Friendly, super-laid-back staff make you comfortable with what might otherwise be an odd ordering and seating process to some. After you buy a ticket, you walk into the huge open area with tables and chairs and bar. Order at the bar and when they call your name, just go pick it up! The choice to have the names called out during a movie isn't the slickest way to handle the process (which the Alamo Drafthouse has perfected) but halfway through the movie, the orders dropped off and there weren't many interruptions at all.

I must add that the brews are fantastic! The variety and price are unbeatable. That, coupled with a decent and well-priced menu make this a really nice substitute for my frequent Alamo cravings.

This was awesome!  We didn't have the best server in the world, but who cares?  We were gettin drunk!  We had delicious pizza:  Moon Pie  -
Olive oil base, spinach, portabella mushrooms, feta, artichokes & parmesan crust
And the Woodstock -   almonds, red onions, broccoli and fresh tomatoes (or sub chicken for tomato)
Both were sooo good, but the Woodstock was my favorite with that surprising flavor and crunch of almond slivers...mmmmm
The beer was also tasty.  Can't remember what we got though.

It's just so easy to have a good time. So what if I wasn't really a big fan of my pizza, the experience alone of watching on of the worst movies on earth with 50 or so other people, swilling beer, and laughing at the awful lines was magic. (M Night. Shamalamadingdong's The Happening)

Knowledgeable and kind staff. Willing to give samples of their beer if you ask nicely.

I hope to make the Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company a staple of my visits to North Carolina.

    Cheep films.

    Good beer.

    Great food.

Smelly auditorium...well...we can't win 'em all.

I've been going to this place since before Asheville Pizza took over...and am completely happy with the new tenants. I'm not sure when the actual take-over occurred, but the place has become a full-force Asheville landmark. The beer is extremely reasonably priced...featuring a great list. The pizza is pretty killer...I've never had anything bad on a pizza there. The Olive Oil Veggie Burger is delicious...and I don't normally eat veggie burgers. The Royale with Cheese is an AMAZING hamburger--one of the best in the city. There fries are something that I find myself craving and not being able to find anywhere. My favorite thing to do is to sprinkle Parmesan Cheese on the fries while they are still hot...something I only do here.

Save your money and have a better time by going here instead of to the over-priced and unimpressive Cinnebarre at Biltmore Square Mall. I promise that you will have a better time and spend about half the money.

This review is for delivery, as I spent two weeks working in one of the conference rooms at the Renaissance hotel, and didn't see very much of the inside of restaurants.  I highly recommend "The Biltmore", its delicious.  Very reasonable prices, and fast delivery.
Bonus weirdness:  fortune cookies with your pizza!

What is up with the seat yourself concept Asheville ? It makes for bad service. This is the second restaurant in the area where the service was bad but the food was good.
We walked in saw the seat yourself sign and found a cozy alcove, and then the waitress walked by and gave us a sneer, probably because her section was over loaded. But as per usual we waited a long time for our drinks, appetizer, and pizzas, but when it eventually arrived it was good. I thought the garlic doh knots maybe could of had more garlic on them, and the shear delight was hella good, but the service not so much.
The decor is kitchy and fun to look at, we had a table decorated in the James Bond theme. They also show movies here but that night there seemed to be a mix up of time when they are showing, as per a group of friends that showed up.
Good pizza bad service, I suggest take out or delivery.

As far as movies, I love paying $3 for movies. They show good movies before they come out on DVD. The atmosphere is awesome. They have booths if you get there early enough and old seating.

I saw The Rocky Horror Show there once for Halloween and sufficiently enjoyed my time watching people dressed up. You can do your own thing and not join in on such. You'll probably see people you know though.

Not a fan of the pizza. It's not deep-dish or crusty or anything to rave about. Whole pies are better than slices for the most part because of this. The other food isn't that great either.

Who wants to eat pizza, drink a beer and sit on a couch while watching a movie for $2??

    Me! Pick me!

    Gold. Solid gold.

In summary, good pizza, good atmosphere, decent prices, service left something to be desired.

We went for the lunch buffet on a Saturday at 12:00 and then stayed to watch a World Cup match.  The buffet was hit and miss, depending on how picky you are.  It's stocked with mostly their specialty pizzas, and a couple of simple ones (cheese, pepperoni).  So for me, if I got up there at the right time it was awesome, but 10 minutes later there were no pizzas I liked.  Also had a couple of good soups, some mac and cheese, rice, and beans, plus a decent salad bar.  Soft serve ice cream for dessert.  It was good quality stuff for $7, no doubt.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that they were understaffed because of the soccer match, but the service was definitely lacking.  If it was any other day than this, I'd put 3 stars because it was really that bad.  The servers we encountered were all very friendly, it just took 30 minutes to find them.  During what ended up being a 2.5 hour game, we were checked on 4 times, and when it came time to pay the bill, I had to physically go find the server because everyone else had cleared out of the room and I still couldn't see her anywhere.

So, as I said, I can imagine that the place is awesome if you go at the right time.  The food is good, the atmosphere is good, and I hope that the service is good on a better day.

I really really have to try to understand this place.  The food is pretty good but nowhere near excellent.  I suppose the pizzas are done with an interesting twist......if you've never had real pizza before.  But this is as close as it gets, and the ingredients are pretty fresh.  The service is a bit slow    and the decor is......interesting to say the least.

They offer a great value if you order two pizzas, so come in a group so you can all share everything!  I myself can eat a whole pizza by myself! :P

The pizza here rocks.  The movies are second-rate in that they are not movies that have just come out -- as a result you'll only pay three dollars to see what was in theatres two to three months ago!  I love the scene, I love that it is so close to UNCA, I love the food, the staff is good.  Three cheers for this Asheville institution.

I brings friends and family here when they visit, and they love it too!  Also good for a beer any random day!

First time here and I was quite pleased. The garlic knots...oh my. There were something like 14 of these puppies and damn they were good. The ESP brewed with jalapeño, YES!  I will crave this until my next visit to Asheville. Honestly, I was too stuffed to try the za, so we took it to go.  Twas decent the day after. The downtown location is the place to be. Huge patio with friendly staff and patrons.
