Love, love, love Ashen. I've been going to Kelly for about 2 years now and she's great! She is one of the only hairdressers I've ever gone to and totally trusted...no matter what she does, I always love it. I was referred to Kelly by a friend and then referred another girlfriend after that. The three of us swear by Kelly's cuts and won't go anywhere else
A month and a half ago, while Kelly was on maternity leave, I went to another salon on the recommendation of a friend. Lets just say her hairdresser butchered my hair! I literally could not style my hair after trying the other salon. The second Kelly came back from Mat leave I went to her and she totally fixed my horrible cut.
She's great at color and cuts and since it is a small boutique and salon, the service you get is very personal and friendly. I highly recommend this salon and both Kelly and Mia. -

I highly don't recommend doing a brazilian blow out treatment here. They don't wash it off for you and seal again so it is perfect the time you walk out the salon. Their way is to leave it on hair and they advise you to not wash your hair for up to 48 hours.
I looked like freak for 2.5 days not washing my hair, deciding to stay in for the weekend, not working out, everything just to make it work as Britney, my stylist advised.
She recommended using a Brazilian blow out products but she also said that it is FINE if I use a conditioner that has no sulfates. I bought a Burt's Bee conditioner that had written on the bottle that it is sulfate free.
Apparently it was also a 'natural' product that stripped all of my Brazilian treatment from the hair. Right at that moment I washed everything out. My hair looked awful dry, tangled and dull. I wasn't able to run my fingers over my hair.
Summary of that part: not her fault but not mine either.
What follows is just me going back and forth with Britney who was very argumentative and didn't care that I just spent over 100 bucks and was willing to spend maybe a little more to get it back, fixed somehow.. Everything just to get the effect I wanted.
Because in the end we all want to be happy and have beautiful hair - that is why I trusted them to provide that to me and they failed all the way. -

Quite an interesting concept...clothing boutique amidst a beauty salon. I am hopelessly devoted to my stylist so I cannot comment on the salon aspect but for its appearance and atmosphere; clean, organized, pretty hardwood floors, chic-friendly-helpful employees.
In discussing this hybrid establishment with yet another stylist friend, she thought the mixture of hair and clothes is brilliant in that it gives patrons something to do while waiting for color, etc. to set. Personally I'd be terrified to go anywhere near the clothing pieces with dye, bleach or any other chemical solution on my person...
The clothes are exactly what you would expect from a boutique. Unique pieces, comfy material and eye-popping price tags. Prices are definitely not for the faint-of-heart or light-in-the-wallet for that matter; however some clothes are so special they are worth a splurge and Ashen has em. The items are all exceptional and one certainly won't run into too many others with the same outfit. A fashionista's paradise with a small but dapper men's line as well.
Everyone deserves a special treat now and then so if you're in the mood to spoil yourself or another you should definitely check it out!Listed in: My (former)…, Babe Beautification, Born to Shop

I love my new Hair extensions!! So I'm back writing my second amazing review for Alli! I've been getting colored by her for years and now she just started doing extensions on me. I love them...I was also surprised at how natural they look...I get them touched up once a month and my hair was still healthy....If you need some pretty long locks Alli's your gal! Thank you again Alli..you truly have magic fingers!!!

Ashen, have some respect for your neighbors and keep your storefront areas clean. There was a puddle of vomit just outside the front window within two steps of the front door. I'm sure it was from some drunken idiot, and not a customer or employee of the salon. But, how difficult can it be to get a hose or a bucket and wash away the mess? Instead they let it sit there until it finally baked into a black sidewalk stain.
Since you had my review flagged for lack of first hand experience with the business, I am forced to elaborate on my experiences with your personnel. My experiences inside the boutique lean towards unpleasant. I have not had any beauty services performed by your salon so I will not pretend to have an opinion on these. I have stopped in to try on clothes and look at artwork and each time I felt like there was pressure to buy something. I am not appreciative of people who try to convince me to spend money purchasing items which don't please me.
I don't mind so much that the items are overpriced, after all it is La Jolla, and the convenience of shopping in your own neighborhood is worth the extra money. However, I do mind when someone insists that I support them financially by paying for something I'll never wear. They do get some really cute dresses and tops but so far I've found the fit or material to be off in some way. When all of the employees are busy styling hair, it is a fine time to shop as there is no pressure, but I don't think I'll go back. -

I don't know of too many salons where I can shop while I wait for my color to process! Ashen is awesome! Lots of unique pieces of jewelry & very stylish clothes!! I've been going to Courtney Resch for almost two years now & she is great!! I've never received so many compliment on how healthy & beautiful my hair is! With my busy schedule Courtney is always able to fit me somehow & I love her for this! I truly look forward to my appointments at Ashen & chatting with Courtney! A++

I love Ashen! I have been going to Alli for a while now and she is honestly the best hairdresser ever and the only person I trust to do anything with my hair. I was referred to Alli over a year ago because I heard she was amazing at doing blondes....I was blonde for a while and always happy with the color. Alli is good at platinum or at giving you a more natural blonde look. Recently Alli transformed me to a brunette and have never been more happy with my hair color. I havent needed to go back for a couple months because my hair color is still beautiful. Alli is also very good at cuts and understands not to cut off too much....just the healthy amount.
The salon is super cute too, the decor is stylish and they always have good artwork, clothes and jewelry. I highly recommend this salon and alli! -

I do not usually give poor ratings but I have to make an exception here. I went here for a blowout and was disgusted! They used dirty combs and brushes that had another persons hair in it. Even after dropping the comb on the ground they just picked it up and kept using it. It just so happened that a salon inspector game in toward the end of my appointment and of course everyone scurried to clean everything up. Also the customer service was not that great. They did not talk to me the entire time and were practically yanking my hair out. My scalp is still sore. They might give good haircuts as seen from the other reviews but make sure they are using clean tools. You never what sort of germs or infections could be being transferred to you.
