I haven't written a review on here in FOREVER, but I had to get on to write about the 60 minute massage I received from LENA.  She was so amazing and really listened to what was bothering me with my back and addressed those issues.  I feel amazing afterward!  I would probably give 4 stars to the overall salon.  The cucumber water was a bit warm and the chairs in the waiting room were kind of uncomfortable.  I will be back soon to see Lena again!!!

If I were to summarize my experience here in 4 letters and 2 syllables, it would have to be so-so.

My socks weren't knocked off, nor was it worthy of a rant or temporary break from Groupon massages.  I did like that the service began with a nice foot massage.  At the beginning, it was a little unclear as to where to go to change; once I was informed of the location of my personal cubby hole, I was robed up and ready to go.  The massage was a full hour, and a suggestion I took home was to use a hot towel for my tight shoulders and upper back.

    Thanks Asha.

I snagged their 50% off hair color for first-time clients coupon available online and I'm so glad I went. I got super quality treatment for 1/2 the price!? Heck ya!

Definitely the most skilled stylists/colorist I've seen so far in the city. Plus, they are clean, on-time, professional, and knowledgeable. They use Aveda products and it's a "concept" salon -- so if you're used to that, you'll love Asha. If you haven't been, you will get hooked.

They are full-service: hair and spa. I'll definitely be back.

Came here for a facial since my usual place was booked up, and I am never coming back.  First of all, my appointment was for 3:30, and the receptionist told me to be prepared to be there until 5:15.  The website says to arrive 15 minutes early, so I arrived at 3:15.  I wasn't even in a room until 3:45... the facial probably started even later than that.  I waited 30 minutes in a bathrobe in the "relaxation" room when I was all but relaxed since I didn't know what was taking so long!

I had the worst facial experience too.  My facial lady had an assistant watching in the room the whole time so the atmosphere was pretty disappointing.  It felt like I was being examined.  They ran out of at least 2 products, so the assistant had to leave the room twice to get refills.  More rants... my facial lady's hands were rough, she had the steamer blowing up my nose for so long that my sinuses were jacked up the rest of the day/night, and she pressed so hard on my facial bones during the extraction process that I seriously thought she was going to break my nose.  And I was out the door by 5 PM.

On top of that, my skin was flaky for at least 2 days afterward, and some of the blackheads she performed extractions on became inflamed and looked worse off!  I should have saved my time, money, and skin by not stepping foot in here at all!

I'll start by saying that the 3-star rating is due completely to the reception/scheduling staff, but my massage & therapist deserve a much better rating.

After being handed a robe & mismatched slippers (one was size 12 & one was a size 8 or 9), I got situated in the waiting room.  Mike presented himself after 15 - 20 minutes.  I was taken aback as I'd requested a female massage therapist.  When I asked him to see about a female therapist, some girl from the front came storming back & informed me (between VERY audible sighs & eye rolls) that there wasn't one available and I would be inconveniencing her terribly if I insisted on a female, which they'd have to pull from a different spa.

By that point, I just wanted to get a massage and go home.  Fortunately for Asha SalonSpa on State Street, Mike was fantastic.  I've been to many, many massages and I've never been so relaxed that I passed out for a few minutes.  I have no recollection of him working on my right leg!  :)  Just fantastic.

Bottom line, their body work is great.  But if you value customer service as I do, you can find better and are encouraged to do so.

I came here for my birthday and got a facial with Stacy. It was my first facial and I felt so comfortable the entire time. The space is relaxing and
Stacy was very informative and sweet. I felt like I was a part of the entire process and she paid special attention to my needs. I always have a tight neck and with out even mentioning it she was in tune with it and paid more attention to that area.

She left my face splotch and bruise free and my skin has never felt better! I couldn't be more happier with it. I cant wait for my next visit.

I decided to go so much shorter this summer.  It's always so scary going short when you have curly hair.  Nina went pretty short, I was scared at first but it was perfect!

She does a great job on my blonde. I get so many compliments all the time on how well my blonde is done and get asked all the time who does it.  Everyone I've sent to Nina has been pleased.

    GO NINA!

The 4 stars is for Alma the massage therapist, not the reception desk, they would get 0 stars. I bought a series of 6 massages and after going through 4 so/so therapists, finally i find one that listens to you and actually goes in and works out the problems, ALMA! She is fabulous and I highly recommend her for anyone with the typical neck/sholder stress area issues.
As for the reception people they greatly need to need to improve their atttitudes and communciation skills, I waited 45 min for my massage this last time and I only waited that long because I really needed it but when Alma did come get me she apologized and ask if the front desk told me she was running late, which they did not! They let me sit there for 45 minutes with no communication.

I have gone numerous times to get my hair cut by Alejandro and he is utterly fantastic!  He does such and amazing job taming my wavy thick hair into submission!  Thinning out my hair with him is not the nerve racking experience I've had with other stylists because he gets it right every TIME!  He listens and really gives you what you ask for!  His curly blow-outs with just the brush are amazing and last a few days!  Besides doing his job incredibly well, he's just nice to chat with.

The place is always clean (smells really good--eucalyptis) and people are friendly.  Never have a difficult time getting an apointment that works for my schedule.  I'm thrilled that I've found my stylist after years of looking!

Again, Chris did wonders with the concave bob I demanded of him...everyone loves it! He was meticulous, detailed and gave me a rockstar cut.

Daniel, my new colorist, is beyond fabulous. Playing with different hues of red is not easy. He made my color fierce but not scary. He knew exactly what he was doing and he was fast and detailed all at once.

Who knew hair perfection could be found in these two gentlemen.

Ive been holding off on posting this review because I am not a fan of the 1 star, I just think its so brutal, but hell... This has to be said.

I went to Asha for a wax. Lets go TMI, I wanted a strip and I got nothing even remotely close. I wanted a landing strip for an airplane and I got a landing pad for a drunk helicopter pilot. Now, lets be frank, a wax isnt a pleasant experience, but holy hell. I have never been in that much pain EVER. It was not only the worst wax job ever, but I left in insanely amounts of pain, and with little bits of hard wax all over me.

Im sorry, but if you need to get a bikini wax, for the love of your female parts, do not go here.

I've been getting my brows waxed with Amanda for over a year now, and she never fails to do a FANTASTIC job. In the beginning my brows were really thinning at the ends - now they look great. It's as painless as possible, consistently shaped and she makes sure to get everything. I started going to Asha because of convenience, but am moving farther away and will continue to come to Amanda.

I started a microderm cycle and got a facial with her last month, and, while microderm is always uncomfortable, the facial was AWESOME. Both were pretty reasonably priced considering some of the other services the salon offers.

I went to Asha Salon for the first time and had a great experience. I went to Nina (Christina) for a hair cut and she did a fabulous job. Usually when I get my hair cut I end up unhappy because the stylist does what they want instead of listening to me; but Nina was very professional and listened as well as gave her input and I ended up with a great cut. I also loved the Aveda products they used. The cold weather makes my hair extremely dry, and by the time she was finished my hair felt soft and healthy again.

The place was very clean and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Lori, who washed my hair and gave me a hand massage, was also great.

Overall it was a nice and relaxing experience, which in my opinion is how a trip to the salon should be! I'll definitely be returning.

This review is looooooong overdue. For the past few months I've been getting my highlights from Nina.  She is amazing and you can tell that she loves to do this. I came to her with dark brown virgin hair and really wanted to go for the blond highlights. In the past I've gotten highlights and they've all turned brassy/red. Therefore, for years I let my hair grow out to my natural color always feeling that highlights were not for me. Nina prove me so wrong. We initially started on a darker tone because I was afraid and she was totally attentive to my request. As I kept seeing her I got more daring and I trusted her completely. Now I'm nearly blond and I love it! *note: not brassy head*
She listens well, patient and follows her clients' requests. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to get coloring done especially if you've never had it done or have been burned in the past like I have. She'll make you feel at ease and look great!  ;)  I've receive many compliments on my hair since seeing Nina.

I live around the corner form the State St. location and I've been going here for haircuts & eyebrow waxes for the past year. I've seen two of the stylists, Julia and Nina, and never had a bad haircut.

The salon generally runs on schedule and I rarely have had to wait longer than 5-10 minutes after my scheduled appointment. As an Aveda salon they have stylists at different experience levels so the prices vary. Both stylists I've seen give haircuts for a flat $40, which is much cheaper than lots of salons in this city.

Eyebrow waxes here are $20, pretty standard, no special perks, but they always do a good job.

I have been to Asha on two occasions. On my first visit, I got the Road Warrior massage and, despite a hiccup, the massage was very well done. Recently, I thought it was a great idea to jump off a cliff into the mediterraean. While my ego was doing great, my whiplash was causing problems - that, combined with 42 hours of travel to get home, and I needed some TLC. I went to Carma for a Hydrotherm massage. This is where you sit on a warm, water-filled pad which was perfect for my sore muscles. It does get VERY WARM. If you love hot tubs, this massage is definitely for you. I don't do very well with extremely warm (I'm a winter girl) so when I asked for a cool towel, Carma not only gave me a cool towel for my chest and face, she also cooled her hands everytime she got more oil! It made such a huge different and the bodywork was amazing. My whiplash was non-existent afterwards.

I have been to a lot of spas and many offer great amibiance, but meteocre service or vice-versa. Carma's attention to detail combined with Asha's well-done decor is what makes them a great spa, as opposed to a good one. I will definitely be back.

My ex bought me a package here and I didnt have the heart to tell him I hated it.

    Massage= painful and oily.
Facial = stop selling me your crap!!
Manicure/Pedicure = don't be mad when I bring my own nail poilsh!

the worst though was that the lady felt obligated to tell me a tip wasn't included! This was the first thing out of her mouth! I was appalled- just because this was a gift doesn't mean that I have grown up in a box!  And i cant tell you how pissed they were that i bring my own polish. Which was weird- its not like i was using wet and wild in sparkly green- its chanel, and pink!

Whatever, they were all weird and bitchy and I really did feel like they were looking down on me because this was a gift, so Im obviously some poor chairty case.

I've found that you can always trust the Aveda salons.  I don't know why I keep forgetting this and trying other places.  Grass is always greener, I guess . . . .

Anyway, I've been broke lately and really shouldn't be going to spas, but as I walked by they had a sign for 50% off waxing.  Can't pass that up.  So I walked in and they took me then and there.  I had Jessica, and she was great.

Great ambiance, great products, and professional, detailed waxing with minimal pain and irritation.  I'm very satisfied.  Since my first wax, I've tried three other waxers at this salon, and I've been very happy with all of them.

They always have a promotion going on, so be sure to get on their email list.

They gave me luke warm cucumber water to sip on while I waited for 20 minutes past my appointment time and then cut my hair like Mrs. Brady. The stylist kept talking to the shampoo guy about their plans to "party" that evening. I felt like he was just snipping away recklessly because he was late to the bar.

The cut cost $85. I will not be back.

I came here because I received a 50% off my first color service.  I needed highlights and i had heard good things about the salon, so I figured it would be an awesome deal.

While I LOVED my stylist and she did a great job with my highlights, the cost was outrageous.  I've been getting my hair colored and highlighted for several years now, and I've never batted an eye at the costs of doing so.  When I went to Asha, I had to ask the receptionist if the total she gave me included the 50% discount.  When she said yes, I was floored.  The highlights alone would've been affordable, but they did all these extra treatments that I wasn't aware of and would've refused if I had known what they'd cost.

The one wonderful thing I can say about the salon is that they give EXCELLENT eyebrow waxes.  Mechelle really was gentle and made me look absolutely gorgeous after having my brows done - a very difficult feat!

Per my other Asha review, I don't like this place. It's  very, "I work here to be seen" kind of thing.  The service is very hit or miss. Sometimes I'll call to schedule and appointment and I'll get great service, but then when I come in the service blows.  Sometimes the front staff will be great but then other times the people who see you suck. It's just so odd.

I will go b/c I am a lover of all things discount (a la when the do their 50% off services sale) but other than that, I avoid this place.

Friendly staff - pretty attentive to you as soon as you walk through the door.  I've been getting my eyebrows done with Dalyn for awhile now (since I got blown off from a makeup counter in Marshall Fields, er, Macy's where I USED to get them done during lunch breaks), and she does an excellent job. They also do spray tans, and you won't  leave looking too orange or too brown!  When booking, the staff  recommends wearing dark clothes when you go so your clothes won't stain (honestly, your skin is dry by the time you're finished).

I too agree booking an appt. during the day or even after 5 PM on a weekday where there is less of a crowd. I once got my hair cut on a super busy Saturday afternoon (prom season?), and the place was loud and lots of people bustling about. I shouldn't complain too much because I loved how my hair turned out!

Okay, so I lopped off 12 inches of my hair for Locks of Loooooooove.  Scary.  It was also b/c I broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years the week before I made this decision.  Eeeek.

Gregory was AWESOME.  He gave me one of the best haircuts of my life.  I would have random strangers come up to me on the street and ask me about my hair.  It was so f-ing cool.

    Then he left for Miami.

And now, I have no one.

(He left for Miami apparently b/c some problem with the manager promising him a bunch of stuff and not following through ... I don't know.  But any place that doesn't do EVERYTHING THEY CAN to keep my love drops quite a few stars down in my book.)

So, it's been a few months since my last review, and I'M STILL HERE!  I've never stayed at a spa for over two months, but this is well worth it.

I never thought I would be able to say this, but I have eyebrows!  In fact, she can actually train your eyebrows to grow more, or a certain way, to best fit your face shape.  Every time before I go to an appointment, I get so excited.  I know, weird thing to be excited about; but whenever I come, Mechelle gets excited  by my growth as well!

After sticking with this spa, I've noticed that this business isn't just about services.  It's about the people; and with Mechelle, she really makes you feel that way.  On days she knows I'm in a hurry, she gets me in and out in no time.  On days when I've rescheduled three times, and lemme tell ya, it's happened, she's never been impatient with me.  On days I seem stressed or even just random days, I get extra services free of charge.  And, despite some of these reviews, I've never experienced anything unpleasant while here.

All in all, if you want more than what you pay for, fantastic services, and great people, I would come to Asha.  Although, I will say that I have never experienced anything at the salon, so that may be different.

Right from the start I was led back into a peaceful, dim lounge area where I changed and relaxed in a fluffy robe that they provided, while I drank cucumber water.  I only had to wait a few minutes before my massage began. The whole atmosphere was very relaxing and calming.  I would definitely go back there again.

I have yet to get service done here, but perhaps once I do I can update review.

My experience here was that my bff in Colorado (who is an Aveda junkie) wanted to get me a gift card for my birthday. I received a card from her in late(er) August explaining I had a gift card waiting for me at Asha. When I called to thank her she explained that Asha refused to mail me the gift card she purchased over the phone, and it would be there waiting for me. Well then I went to Europe for a few weeks, and when I returned was in the process of moving, then between temp work, interviews, and life I never got around to picking up the card until early November.

Well, I guess they couldn't find the card. Even though they have record in their computer that in fact Kara did buy it and no one ever picked it up and there was still $30 linked to the card. I don't know what the problem is just reissuing the card. But they seemed to feel it was necessary to have me wait 20 minutes while they kept searching, tried to think through what to do here, and then lecture me on why it was my fault and/or my friends for ordering a gift card. I asked- but I thought you couldn't order online? They confirmed that you can't. So I asked- but I thought you didn't mail cards? They confirmed you don't. So I explained it's a rather flawed system, they won't mail anything and can't be bothered with gift cards, yet they want business. Shouldn't they want the sale? Instead of cutting of a market of people who buy giftcards for people when they don't live in the area- shouldn't they be happy to mail out a giftcard for a 44 cent stamp?

Anyway, it literally took 20 minutes for them to simply 'buy' a new giftcard with the old giftcard balance. Way to go geniuses. I guess eventually I'll be using said giftcard and update on my actual experience then. But as for customer service, I don't see how they felt the right to scold me when they lost the giftcard.

Not wanting to look at all pasty for a recent trip tothe South, I booked a spray-tan here and hoped for the best.

My past experiences at other places have ranged from turning an unpalatable carroty-orange to the solution not sinking into my skin and rubbing off, to getting a great tan everywhere...but my face. So I was a little hesitant about going in for a spray tan.

After being quietly ushered to a back room to remove my clothes and change into a cushy robe and too-small slides, I bared all for my spray tech. She got me everywhere. I did notice some streakiness on my calves, which the tech said she didn't really see, but I'm not sure how she couldn't. Anyway - she fixed it. I didn't shower until the next night, and when I did...I got pale face! Poo. I'm thinking this is just how my skin is, though, not necessarily anything to do with Asha or my spray tech.

In all, I was happy with the spa-like service and I about murdered a bowl of snacky stuff witrh wasabi peas, pretzels and Chicken in a Biscuit-type crackers. I would consider going back for other spa services.

I came in from out of town to get my hair styled for a black tie wedding.  Nina gave me an adorable up-do with lots of curls and some small braids in the back.  She was friendly and sweet!  Would definitely recommend.

OK, I had to change this update a little bit because it was harsh...I was very distraught and now I feel kind of bad....even though it still haunts me to this day.

I went here to get my hair chopped to donate it and it was a disaster.  I don't have enough to donate and I have to go back to get the cut fixed because it is uneven.  I'm just very dissappointed because it took me over 2 years to grow my hair that long and now it's useless.

The guy was nice enough to give me a 20% discount because I was donating it....

My color is awesome though, so that's a plus.

So I got the Microderm and as I've never had it before there was nothing to compare it to in the way of pain from Glass Crystals vs Baking Soda
    (They use Baking Soda)
It was abrasive and someone warned me that it wasn't a relaxing service, but after gritting my teeth and baring the blast, they put a VERY cool and calming Hydrating Masque on my face and wrapped it with a hot towel.  It felt amazing and made the procedure itself (which wasn't totally unbearable) seem like no big deal.

The result?  I felt clear and relaxed and my skin felt beautiful.  A glance in the mirror proved that it was a more gentle process as my skin was not irritated or blotchy.  I even went out to a friend's house afterward who didn't notice any irritation.

Someone told me that it removes all the impurities from the surface of your skin but Mechelle (my technician) explained that I was misinformed and Mircoderm actually sloughs off the first layer so that your skin can rebuild.  It's the masquing after the fact that is supposed to catch all the stuff that comes to the surface.  Since I already own almost every Aveda product on the market, I promised to keep using the Clay & Hydrating Masques to keep my skin clear.  At $65 a session, I'd say this is a wise investment for us gals looking to keep our 'youthful' glow.

WOW! I had some extra time today, so called in the morning praying I'd get an appointment in the evening--and this on a Friday when everyone wants to beautify for their weekend. Maybe it's the recession, but I got an appointment.

I just got back from a waxing appointment here, and Mechelle did such an UNBELIEVABLY good  job on my brows. Like seriously, best eyebrow waxing I have had since I started getting my brows waxed at 16.

    Asha overall is still a 4, but today's experience gets a 5

Who knew getting hair ripped off your face could be so damn relaxing?

I've been going to Asha every two or three weeks for eyebrow waxes for the past couple of months. I used to go down to Devon and Western to have them threaded, but I moved downtown so was looking for something new...

Enter Asha Gold Coast! Yeah, $25 might be a little much compared to the $6   I was paying for threading, but let me tell you, it's worth every penny. My girl Amanda rocks it out! She never over-does it, and she keeps my arches looking awesome. Amanda takes her time, and waxes but also plucks out those baby hairs, and trims you up when you need it.

I'm definitely addicted! Asha is really convenient for me, and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing (especially since I'm usually sneaking out of work to come here). I can't say anything for the other services, but if you're looking for a good eyebrow wax, check it out!

Still happy with Asha :-) I came in here recently for a de-stressor amidst hectic year-end and holiday festivities. Dawn worked some deep tissue magic that put me to sleep like a Cold War agent's pressure point grip. I floated out of my body, watched myself nap, and giggled at my snoring.
