This review is specifically for Shannon the aesthetician...I'll say this: She does not provide a relaxing experience. And this is a good thing. I don't go in to get my face massaged. I go in to get the crap out of my skin and have a beautifully clear face for the next few weeks. Shannon does that. She's the only person I've seen that really makes sure you leave squeaky clean and that your face is smooth the next day.
Leave the flowery experiences for other people.....if you want a top notch facial for treatment instead of relaxation, go to Shannon. Also, she's hillarious, but I assume that's neither here nor there. Just thought I'd throw that in. -

I was not impressed with either the facial or the massage I was given. The lady that did the facial just kept trying to sell me products, and the massage was so soft I could barely feel it. Kept telling her more pressure, but she was just rubbin the oil in, not massaging. And it was absoltely freezing in this place! I had to ask that they turn up the heater on the massage table so I could stand it. Won't be back.

First, I'm giving this place a generous two. I had purchased a travel zoo that included a facial and a massage. Overall, I would rate my facial a three and my massage a zero.
The facial was ok. Nothing to write home about but just ok. The lady stepped out for about an extended period of time. In fact, I thought maybe she had said she was done and didn't hear her...Now, what CREEPED me out was the deplorable conditions. I've uploaded photos of the dirty water bottles, disgusting wax crock pot, etc. While, I didn't get waxed while I was here, based on what I saw, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!
Now, I was really looking forward to my massage but the therapist had very WEAK hands. Less than five minutes into it, I just wanted to tell her we could stop because it was a waste of time and that she could keep my money but I didn't want to be rude. She even asked what type of pressure I liked and when I answered firm she went back to gingerly stroking my back. Seriously, what I received couldn't be categorized as a massage. I could tell it was just a job for her and that she didn't love her profession because she was just going through the motions. To top it off, she cut the massage five minutes short. Trust me, it was awful so I was happy that I didn't have to endure it for another five minutes but it's also one of my biggest pet peeves when therapists do that.
If you're looking for a good massage, I would recommend Spa Gregories, Estancia Spa, and Natural Athletic Performance Spa. -

I went to ASerenity to cash in the Travel Zoo deal I purchased a few months ago. The location wasn't too bad, and there's parking in the rear. The 50 minute massage was decent, but I've definitely had better. The facial was decent, but again, I've had better. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. I enjoyed my time and would go back again if they were running another deal. But I don't think I'm sold enough to be a repeat customer. I give ASerenity a solid OK.

I usually don't write reviews but was unsatisfied with the service ASerenity provided. I purchased my massage and facial package on Travelocity and found that nearly every time I called, I was unable to reach a live person on the phone.
The massage treatment lasted about 10 minutes short of the allotted time. The massage itself was okay except the massage therapist seemed occupied with something else and kept pausing during the massage. The massage table sheets looked dirty and unwashed.
The facial itself turned out to be incredibly painful. I've had facials many times before and never had anyone make me cry. After, she tried to sell my on additional services that seemed unnecessary for my skin type.
The overall experience could've been better and I would not recommend anyone to go there. I guess you get what you pay for, but I'd rather pay the few extra dollars and take my business elsewhere. -

And I don't like the fact that I got an unfavorable response from and employee to my review because of my experience. I never said that the company should relocate to a different area because the area they are in isn't favorable. I heard about this spa through a good friend of mine so I thought I would check it out. I've been in for multiple types of services and I've been satisfied with them all.
Nicole was the aesthietician who performed the services and she made me feel very comfortable.
Also they were very accommodating to my schedule and she even came in early so that she could fit me in!!
I love that each month they're always offering specials and promotions, very nice on the bank account =)
Very inviting feeling from the moment I walked in the door!!! -

I, too visited after purchasing an introductory package on Travelzoo. I don't write many reviews on Yelp but I felt compelled to leave one because I had a great experience from start to finish. I found the process of making a reservation quick and easy, never had trouble reaching an attentive person on the phone, and actually found them to be abundantly accommodating when I needed to change the date of my visit due to a last minute business trip.
The actual visit was excellent; my facial was great and I was offered additional services in a way that was appropriate and helpful, not in a can we sell you more stuff kind of way. My massage was wonderful, also.
All in all, my experience was easy, no hassle, respectful (as in not making you feel like a loser for bringing in a discount voucher) and just what I was hoping it to be...coupon or not.

After my intial problems booking an appointment, my actual experience was quite lovely. My daughter and I went each on that Travel zoo coupon. I got the massage while she got the facail and visa versa. Staff was extremely nice and the facilities were clean and quaint. My only complaint was that the rooms were a bit chilly. Fortunately the tables have heaters and that added wonderfully to the experience.

Received a Travelzoo voucher for my birthday...lucky me!
Setting my appointment was easy. I called, left a mess and the call was returned promptly. I was even allowed to book my appointment on 8/8...two days prior to the running of the promotion. It was effortless.
I arrived 5 minutes prior to my massage, filled out my paperwork and was escorted to the room for my massage. i shared my concerns with Erika and asked her to go deep and work out the knots. She did a great job. I fell asleep for periods of time...it was that relaxing!
I then moved on to my facial in the adjoining room. Elisha listened to my concerns and spend the next 50 minutes pampering me. She did an amazing job with extractions. i left feeling radiant.
I scheduled my next appointment (20% off by scheduling it at that time) and am anxious to go back for my next visit.
Only drawback was the sound of the occasional airplane flying overhead. After identifying the sound, I let it go. I heard only the sounds of the soothing music playing. Completely relaxing and rejuvenating! -

I bought a travelzoo package for this spa. The deal was amazing since it was $49 for a 50 min massage and a 50 min facial and a 15 min eye treatment. I decided to treat myself yesterday, and it was super relaxing. The massage was good, I fell asleep during it, which is how relaxing it was! The facial was also really good, and I didn't have any reaction to the products.

I purchased a Spa Girl deal that included: a mini facial (I upgraded to full), a 30-minute massage (upgraded to 60 min), mini microdermabrasion, anti-aging eye treatment (upgraded to full facial). All services were satisfactory.
The masseuse April was one of the better ones I've been to and gave me one of the best massages (out of the 50+ I've had at various places). She prefaced the massage by saying to let her know during the massage if I wanted her to work longer on certain areas or if she should adjust where she is working on. She was receptive to my comments and also inherently knew where to apply pressure for my knots (chronic back, shoulder, glute tightness).
The facials were relaxing and left me with a great glow. Unfortunately the esthetician is no longer working there so I can't comment on how the current ones are.
The anti-aging eye treatment didn't provide any results so I don't recommend it at all.
I've had no problem getting an appointment and they stay open late during the week too. They now provide online booking.
I've had to wait a few times despite arriving on time or early but it wasn't too bad. They also aren't pushy about selling you products which is great. The waiting room was calm and refreshments are provided.
In short, it was a good day spa. Not the best but worth going back to again. -

I came to ASerenity after reading the other reviews here on Yelp. I went in to get microdermabrasion to try and clear up some old acne scarring and current breakouts.
The environment is very warm and welcoming, which is a huge plus. The esthnatician who did my facial treatment was Julie and she was very nice, professional, and comforting. The treatment lasted the full 50 min which is also a huge plus in my book.
The best part of the whole experience is the way my skin felt immediately afterward. It hasn't looked this nice in quite some time which is the reason I decided to go ahead and get a full 6 treatments. Plus, they have very competitive prices.
I mentioned Yelp and got 20% off (as this was my first visit with them) 6 treatments and it came out to $400, which is a great deal.
Friendly staff, competitive prices, and great results makes ASerenity a must try if you are looking for a new skincare establishment
UPDATE - 1-18-2011: I've just finished my 3rd microderm treatment and my face, skin, and complexion continue to improve above and beyond my initial expectations.
I am really grateful of the work Julie has done on my skin and will continue to seek her services for as long as she is employed here. -

ASerenity is the much needed oasis in our busy lives. The atheistic of the location are extremely calming and clean. When you walk in, you are welcomed with a warm greeting. The staff is very professional but friendly. They are genuinely interested in making you as comfortable as possible.
I go here once a month for Swedish massage. My masseuse, Debbi, has worked with to help my lower back and hip pain. I can see the results. The pricing is typical of a spa but they are always offering deals depending on the month. I highly recommend it! -

I'm not extremely keen on massages nor facials, but a friend of mine recently purchased the Yelp Deal from here for me as a gift. It was a half hour facial and half hour massage for under $50 bucks. If my friend knew me better they'd know that I'm not big on either of these, but alas it was the thought that counts so I decided to give em a shot. I enjoyed it like a seagull enjoys eating Cheese Nips...it wouldn't exactly be my first choice, but I'll take what they give me.
Nothing against ASerenty by any means I'm just not big on either of these services. Regardless I had a really great experience. I think it's a sign that you got a good massage when you fall asleep so if they're your thing it's definitely worth giving a shot.
The facial was very relaxing also. I chose skip the extractions because I didn't feel like a mad breakout afterwards, but the technician assured me in the future if I wanted to come back that she could extract without me looking like a Proactive commercial.
As far as I'm concerned they could have been the best spa in America, but I'm not really experienced enough hand out that award. Check em out for yourself! Worst that could happen is you'll fall asleep on a massage table. -

I've been going here for facials from Elisha for about 6 months. The atmosphere is peaceful and they're super accommodating. For instance I have appointments at 515 after I get out of work, so she'll stay later if you book it. The prices are incredible for the service. I also really love that they aren't super pushy about products, but you will get some solid advice for your skin. I can't wait for my next appt!!

Guaranteed the most painless waxing in San Diego County!
But seriously, I am a huge weenie/wimp and hate to get waxed. I once went to one of those mall places that also does nails and I swear to god I thought I was going to be maimed for life, and swore to never do a bikini wax again. A friend suggested Anke who has a little place in Pt. Loma and uses a warm wax (not hot) and is super fast and distracts you and ba-bing! no bikini hair. Yay. Really, it barely hurt at all! Reasonably priced, soothing zen kinda space.
Anke (pronounced like Anka) also does facials and microdermabrasion. My friend had the latter and said that after three of them she felt it made a big difference. -

I purchased a groupon for my mom and i and it included a 1 hour basic facial and a 1 hour massage. the facial was AMAAAAAZING! Stacey was the esthetician and she did a wonderful job, i was sooo relaxed and falling asleep during the process. I highly recommend her and my mom really enjoyed her work as well. The massage was good, but I am pretty picky about it and I guess once you have already found someone you really like, its hard to top it. I do highly recommend this place, its very relaxing and cute inside (dont let the outside of the building fool you). The music was nice and the receptionist, Ankes husband was fantastic! Such a character and a great businessman! Thanks for the welcoming feeling and we will be back in June for some more facials!

My wife and I bought vouchers from Travelzoo for a massage and facial package. It was clear to us that they brought in a contractor for the massage part - my wife walked out within 20 minutes. We will never go back there again. To be fair, the facial, which I had while my wife as experiencing her massage (if one can call it that) was great.

Anka is a waxing genius! Dana T is right... you absolutely do not feel her waxing at all. I've been to a few other places in San Diego and practically gave up until I found Aserenity on Yelp and gave it a try. I was seriously laughing the first time she waxed me because I didn't even know she pulled off the wax strip. I don't know what she does that's different, but I won't go anywhere else in San Diego.
I've also tried the spa for facials which are great. What I love most though, is the personalized attention and very intimate care. Anka is the BEST!
Aserenity is not one of those giant spas with the robe, steam room, waiting room with apples and tea etc; it's more an intimate little spa office with several rooms and a nice little front room area. If you want the giant spa setting I'd go somewhere else. If you want really great service and personal care, I couldn't recommend a better place! The spa is very warm and inviting with wonderful sunlight streaming into the main waiting area. When you walk in it is an oasis! Anke, the owner, is suck a lovely person. I can't say enough positive things about the people and the treatments! I had a Swedish massage from Angela - amazingly relaxed after the massage and my first facial by Stacy - very calming and walked me through the steps of a facial. My skin from the facial feels amazing and my body relaxed from the Swedish massage.

I visit many spas and enjoy a good massage or facial every month or so. I went to A Serentity because of a deal I found on Travelzoo. While I like Ocean Beach/Point Loma, I think the location of the spa and actual building is not conducive to a spa (relaxing) environment. This is sad because I think the folks at A Serenity are good at their trade, and in comparison to other staff I've met at spas everyone was pleasant. I will detail my experience for you step by step.
1) Booking the appointment was easy and phone courtesy was awesome.
2) The location and actual building set up were definitely lacking. I think a separate tranquil waiting room would help, but there is still the traffic noise to contend with. I'm used to a secluded, peaceful environment when I go to a spa.
3) The facial was excellent and probably one of the best I've ever received. I really liked the products and lady that did my facial explained step by step what she was doing.
4) There seems to be only one restroom, which again goes back to the environment and set-up of this spa. It is disruptive when between your treatments, you have to wait for 2 other people to use the restroom out in the open lobby as other customers come in and out.
5) The massage room was deficient because there was little space to set your belongings. Also the noise of the traffic could be heard except for when the music was turned up loud.
6) The massage itself was unlike anything I've experienced. I'm not sure if I liked it or not. The stroke technique was quick and hurried, but the overall effect was good. I just felt the auora of the massage was not as relaxing as I'm used to it being. The lady that did the massage was pleasant but did not consult with me on what type of stroke, the pressure, etc. I'm used to being asked those type of questions when getting a massage.
Overall rating for me is okay, and I don't think I would consider going back for anything other than a facial. -

Wow - this place is spectacular. I have been searching for a spa for years to call "home" and ASerenity is it!
I had an incredible mini facial from Anke; my skin has never looked so fresh! And Debbie's massage technique was exactly what I needed - therapeutic, cleansing and relaxing.
To top it off, adorable Kelly makes fantastic jewelry. I bought 4 pairs of her earrings as gifts - great price and find! She also made the delicious chocolate truffles I received at the end of my treatments.

I purchased a Groupon deal for two visits, one for a 30-minute mini facial, followed by an eye treatment and one for a 30-minute mini facial, along with a Vitamin C enzyme peel, ASerenity's mildest peel aimed at rejuvenating tired-looking skin. It also included a $20 gift card toward products. At session one, I added an eyebrow wax. Right off the bat, the estition tried to remove a blemish on cold skin, which left a huge scab that took more than a week to heal. I wish she would have waited until my pores were open to try. Her technique was ho-hum, but I was getting a great deal, so I didn't complain. On the second visit, I had a different estition, and her technique was a lot better. She tried to do two extractions (on areas where I hadn't noticed any blemishes). Those two spots ended up irritated and developed blemishes over the next week. I thought something was strange, because I didn't think the voucher included extractions. When I was leaving I found out that they were going to charge me an extra $50 for the "bonus" service. The manager was really good about waiving the charge after I asked about it a couple times, but it felt like a scam to me. I noticed that my pores looked really dark a few days later, which I don't usually have a problem with. One last note, they have a window in the room where they do the facials, which needs some black out curtains. Even with my eyes closed I could see the light from the window through my lids.
****Update*** After I wrote my review I received a message from the owner offering me a free treatment. I went in for my free massage last week and the owner met with me before and after, sincerely thanked me for my feedback and also invited me to come in for a facial on the house whenever I have the time. I was very impressed by how seriously she took my feedback and her determination to give me a better experience. -

Anke is a miracle worker! After a series of facials and microderm my skin cleared up and even now, two years later, it looks great. I fly back to San Diego once or twice a year to see Anke; she is the real deal. Great rates and warm, attentive service. You will not find a better facial or a kinder esthetician than Anke.

ASerenity moved to larger quarters at 3939 Voltaire Street. That's about 4-5 blocks down Voltaire from Point Loma High School. Plenty of street parking and also a lot behind the building. I still love their online appointment system and that Kristina is available on Saturdays and Sundays for facials. She is friendly, thorough, and offered some great trips. This is always a great treat after some time in the sun.

Cute place down in OB. I had a series of 3-mini microdermabrasions. There were two different girls that worked on me and they were both nice. The work was good and thorough. They use really good products (Image) and they all smell really good. The spa is clean which is always a plus when you are getting your beauty treatments. They offer products and offer tips on how you can improve your face cleansing or anti-aging regimen but they do not push the products if you simply say "no thank you" which is nice. I dinged a start because on my last appointment, I showed up on my scheduled time and walked in and the lady at the front desk said "oh, our electrical is down and we can't use our machines to do any work, but we called everyone to let them know we need to reschedule." Ummm...I never got a phone call and she kept insisting that Anthony called me. I wouldn't have left work early if I had known the appointment was canceled. Anthony did call me within the hour to reschedule (no apology and no mention of not calling to cancel). Other than that issue, everything else was good!

I have known Anke for about ten years now and have always loved her services. She is fabulous at waxing; very gentle and quick. She is so friendly and welcoming. Anke = amazing in german....okay, not really, but she is! My last bikini wax experience was in Washington DC and I was emotionally scarred to the point of going back to just shaving. I decided since the move to SD that it was time to get back to it, but was a bit apprehensive. From the moment I walked in to see Anke's smiling face (at 6pm on a Saturday no less, totally last minute) to welcome me into her peaceful and professional environment like I was an old friend. She is a great conversationalist and my bikini wax was over before I even realized it started. She was fabulous. I'm throwing out the razors for good!

Finding a facialist who understands how to work and treat severe acne is rare. Anke knew her stuff inside-out, and received her intensive training in Europe. I found her off Yelp (thanks, Noa), and am quite glad. My husband and I also use her for waxing. When you can't even tell if you're being waxed because it's so pain-free, you've found a keeper.

I've had 2 microdermabrasion sessions with Elisa, and am very happy with their service. The spa is clean, unpretentious and the staff make you feel welcome when you walk in. Elisha pays a lot of attention to detail, making sure to get my neck, decolletage. During the facial portion, she makes sure to put spot treatment on my acne prone zones.

This place is truly AS GOOD AS IT GETS! I came in hearing about the place from a Local Twist deal. I thought I should try it out because my friend is getting married in a month. I had really bad acne. I went it for a mini microdermabrasian and a peel. My skin is clear now! Julie is the best. I've went in for a couple sessions already. She understands what it feels like to have bad acne so she is genuinely helpful. We have the funnest conversations during the sessions too, LOL. Treat and spoil yourself by making an appointment there. It's like a therapy session with the added bonus of skin care.

A very pleasant experience at ASerenity Skincare! I had the Forever Young Facial and my skin feels wonderful. It is day 7 and my skin still has a beautiful glow and looks very smooth! My make-up glides on and looks so natural. I am completely thrilled with the results! Valentina took time to answer all of my questions and explain the steps involved in the Facial. I started going to Kristina Tiedemann in hopes of helping my acne problem. I was ready to go on antibiotics to clear up my face as a last resort. Thankfully, with the facials that I receved from Kristina along with product recommendations, my face cleared up.....I couldn't be happier. I will continue t get facials here and plan to try out some of their other treatments.
