Review from Katy H.
Consider me a convert!
After a stressful few weeks I found myself on the prowl for a great massage. Being a little naive on the subject, (I was a massage virgin) I thought I'd do some research on Yelp. After seeing a few posts in the events section about stress control and meditation classes, I looked up the Ascension Wellness Center. Not only do they offer treatments of various kinds for both mind and body, they offer exactly what I was looking for... massages!
Des Moines isn't exactly a hop skip and a jump from Seattle so I had to be convinced this place was great. After speaking with Jason, (who posted the events I'd seen) I was sold. And by 'sold' I mean I got naked in front of a stranger, sold!
My appointment was with a lovely woman named Sonia. Before the actual massage we sat together and filled out the necessary paperwork. I discussed problem areas and she helped work out a customized massage plan for me. I sincerely felt like she listened to what I needed and wanted from the experience. I'd heard stories about how massages can hurt, how it can be a little awkward to be naked, etc. This was totally not so with Sonia. I felt I was in good hands. Literally!
In addition to pampering myself with a massage I also tried a cleanse called Aqua Detox. Initially I feared that I'd signed myself up for a colonic. (See my Tummy Temple review!) It's essentially a foot soak where toxins are released through the pores in your feet. It was seriously crazy. I've never seen anything like it but the procedure itself was fascinating.
So if you're looking for a spot to get your back rubbed and your nails and hair done - skip out on Ascension. If you're looking for a place where your health is at the center of attention, I'd recommend giving this place a shot. The people who work there are personable and attentive, the spa itself is clean and inviting and it's still a small enough operation where you feel like you're their only priority. Stay tuned - I think I'm headed back to try some meditation and hypnosis next time! -

I love it when I get messages from businesses like this one. I feel very validated when I share my opinions (good or bad) about the experiences or adventures!
Sandie,
I wanted to thank you for your kind words about us here at Ascension. Your review is like gold to a small business. It's great clients like you that have made us what we are! Thank you again!

I went to this spa for the first time last Saturday because the place I normally go to was booked. I am so happy I came here! I had an amazing massage from Robin! This was the first time I have ever been nauseous after a massage, which means she really worked out some of the stored toxins in my body. I felt so great when I left that I am definitely going back!
The only negative was that the office was really cold but everything else was perfect!Comment from Jason M. of Ascension Wellness Center & Healing Day Spa 11/4/2009

I have been going to Ascension Wellness for a year now. Cindy Wu, my acupuncturist, is stellar. She knows her stuff, this woman! She's an LAc + herbalist. I have marked a steady improvement with constitutional health as well as some funky aches & pains that sometimes rear their heads. I am getting better results with treating my left shoulder with acupuncture than from my chiropractor (who is at another location; no chiros currently at Ascension Wellness).
I have also started an Aqua Detox protocol with Jason. He's a wealth of information. I appreciate the give and take in conversation, as well as his expertise.
The atmosphere is just right. Spa music is piped throughout the Wellness Center. The waiting area is attractively laid out. Slippers are available; no street shoes are worn beyond the waiting room. Filtered water, or a lovely Roiboos detox tea are offered for refreshment.
I give 10 thumbs up to Ascension Wellness!

History
Established in 2001
Ascension started with Sonia Morton as a sole therapist in an office of others. She found that the group wasn't together as a team in healing people. As Sonia's practice grew and her husband Jason was laid off from his tech industry job they decided to make a place that Sonia dreamed about. A healing center with only the best people working together to heal and fulfill every person that walked through the door.
With the Mission Statement: "Our intention is to provide the best health, wellness, & education to our community while allowing our practitioners to prosper." we were on our way.
Each Practitioner owns their own business & has joined Ascension to be with other excellent people as a collective. Each client gets treated by the President, not an employee. We take pride in treating every customer as if they were our only customer.
You will always be greeted with water, tea, comfy slippers, and a cell-phone free environment. Expect a First Class Experience!
