FIRST - if you go to Asako because of my review - you HAVE to tell Asako that Jim and Laurie recommended her restaurant!
1 - the best quality I've had out of 6 sushi places in the Santa Clarita
2 - the owner - is fun, enjoyable and makes it a true experience!
3 - when they say SPICY Tuna - they mean it.... wow.. by far these guys 'get it'
4 - my sushi chef - was indeed Japanese
In all seriousness - Asako was there - and she did ask our names - she came by a bunch of times to make sure we were having a good time... this woman really, realy cares about her customers. Read the other reviews - you really do feel like you're in her 'home' enjoying dinner...
We had a wonderful time last night for dinner....and we'll be back. This is by far our #1 Sushi experience in the valley.
The only thing I'd recommend here - is she needs to hire additional wait staff! Even wonder woman needs some help! -

Asako is Japanese owned, so their sushi may be different from the popular ones in the area. Theirs reminded me of Japan. Sushi made to appreciate the flavor of the fish instead of being drenched in sauce or paired with too much rice. Presentation was very Japanese too. Not only should the food be pleasant to the taste buds but also to the eye.
The owner, Asako, is the first to admit that the food is not truly authentic. She explained that she started with authentic food but had to change some of the dishes to accomodate local taste. What is authentic is the homemade sauces that go along with the various sushi.
What makes Asako sushi stand out from the rest is the owner herself. I called for a reservation. Asking my name, she asked if it would be my first visit there. Arriving, she welcomed me by name. Personable and friendly, she took time to get chat and get to know us. Asako seems to build relationships with her customers. A number of people came in, and she spent time catching up with each one. She's warm and flattering. While some may find this too much, I thought it was refreshing. So many other sushi restaurant work on volume, so you're lucky to get a "hello." At Asako's you feel like you're eating at Asako's home.
We left with a satisfied belly, but also feeling valued. -

Welcome to Asako sushi!
I've been to this place maybe about 5 times. Having started to develop a taste for sushi (I never used to really like it), I looked for a place near my parents house. Naturally I consulted Yelp.
This place is great. The service and atmosphere are really nice and personal. Asako is probably one of the nicest hosts I've ever met. She welcomes you and once you become a regular (3 months) she even puts a picture of you on her wall! The sushi chefs are also very nice and know what they're doing.
I like spicy things so I've tried nearly all of they're spicy sushi rolls. I think my favorite is the Happy Albacore. The prices are also quite fair. If you are visiting Santa Clarita (or live here) and want great sushi, come here! -

I have been to many sushi restaurants in my day and I have to say this is the absolute BEST sushi I have ever had! I am definitely a sauce person ( spicy mayo, eel sauce) when I comes to sushi...Asakos sushi requires NO sauce. Delicious!

Had a great time, Asako (the owner) is awesome and so much fun. We meet a couple of nice guys at the sushi bar that turned us on to this spicy roll that was delicious and not for the faint of heart. I have no complaints and I will be back!

The absolute best sushi in town!!! Hands down!! Service is great and the atmosphere is nice. Make sure you try the salmon and one of my.favorites, the Little Mermaid. DO NOT use soy sauce, you don't need it...the sushi is so fresh and tasty

This is the best sushi you will have within 100 miles. Asako, the owner, is amazingly outgoing and you'll feel like you're with a friend. The design of the shop is aesthetically perfect. The food.. You can't eat it with soy sauce. Order any sushi as an appetizer, you'll understand the magnitude of greatness.

Review from Christina L.
Berkeley, CA
This has to be the best and freshest japanese food I had ever had. This is small place in a plaza. At first, I thought the restaurant was close since there were blinds covering the window, but they did have their open sign lite. So we decided to try it out!
Service:
We were greeting immediately by Asako herself! She was very friendly and professional. She knew we were new to her restaurant so she recommend some of their most popular dishes to us. She also made time to get to us know and chat with us. She very caring and genuine. Absolutely love her!
Food:
Albacore with crispy onion - We had this for a starter and it was delicious!! The albacore was fresh and the sauce and crispy onion gave it a crush that was unforgettable!
Dragon Roll - Delicious! The sauce made the whole sushi flare.
Rainbow roll - The sashimi on top was very fresh and you can really taste the differences.
Salmon Sushi - The best salmon sushi I had ever had! They marinate the salmon in their unique dressing. It was a zesty lemon/lime kick. It's salmon like you have never experienced.
Tea - One of the few Japanese restaurants that serve rice tea. Most restaurants may serve the over produced jasmine or oolong tea, but not Asako sushi! The rice tea was just what I needed after a cold day.
Overall:
I would definitely recommend Asako Sushi to everyone! And definitely try the Salmon sushi! -

THE BEST SUSHI I'VE EVER HAD!!!
My friend brought me here one Friday night and since then NO OTHER "sushi" restaurant has been able to touch the quality of sushi/food served here at Asako Sushi. The sushi has so much flavor that there's no need to use soy sauce like you would at those other places. The only thing better than the sushi/food is Asako! She welcomes you to her restaurant as soon as you walk through the doors. I will definitely be a regular here...if you want the BEST sushi in southern california make sure to come here!
Try the Salmon, Mackerel (Saba) & YellowTail -

Came here for the first time with my brother. Normally when I go to a sushi place my favorite is albacore. Not here at Asako...their salmon is amazing!!! Sometimes a lil too much salt on it, but i'll just remember to say light salt next time. The sushi chef takes his time as if the sushi is his artwork and it comes out perfect every time. The service is amazing! Asako makes everyone feel like a friend. Will definitely be back:)

Asako sushi is by far THE best sushi in SCV. They use the highest quality fish and once you taste it you will immediately know the difference!!!! Chef Bill is so artistic with with each meal and he obviously takes pride in what he does. Asako, the owner, is very sweet and genuinely cares about her customers. Highly recommend every sushi lover should give Asako a try!!! You won't regret it!!!!!

I love coming to Asako's!!! This place is such a find. First of all, it has great ambiance. It's very cute with great lighting, which surprisingly most other sushi places lack. (I mean, no one looks good in halogen, you know?)
I am not a beer drinker, but I love the "special beer," which I think is sake and beer mixed together or something. Definitely worth trying!!!
My two favorite rolls are the "Hot and Sexy Roll" and the "True Love Roll." If I have the names wrong they are close enough to figure out. Both of these rolls are baked and so delicious. The fish is always super-fresh here. We usually get some regular sushi, too. The albacore is always "melt in your mouth" fresh.
Asako is such a fun person, she is very entertaining. She gets to know her customers very quickly and really makes you feel like you are at home. You can tell that she loves what she does.
Now here's the icing on the cake. The karaoke . Usually when you go to a karaoke bar you have to wait at least an hour to sing one song. Not here, the restaurant is small and you can usually sing whatever you want right away. Sure, the selection of songs is smaller than a typical karaoke bar, but there is stil plenty of options to choose from. This is a great place to bring a group of friends who enjoys having a good time. If you do not like karaoke don't worry, it doesn't usually start until a bit later so you are not forced to listen to those who do.
I only wish I lived closer so that I could come here more often. -
Review from Roxanne M.
Canyon Country, CA
The only reason in giving this place 1 star is because the owner/waitress "Asako" tried really hard to make us feel welcome at first. Instead of getting right to the point in giving us our menu, she went on bragging about how her place is truly authentic and then belittling other sushi places. We ordered our drinks and ordered the food. When our sushi came, we noticed there was no soy sauce anywhere visible in the restaurant so we asked for some; oh why did we ask, only to get scolded that "her place" doesn't need soy sauce because it has "natural home style" flavor sauce and pretty much prohibited us from using soy sauce. We thought ok fine let's just eat it, and took a bite and ALL the "special sauce" was, was freakin' lemon!!! Dude, I was like wtf...so we pretty much had to politely ask for soy sauce AND ginger & wasabi again and she did, but following a lecture. I'm sorry but if you're going to run a restaurant, don't tell a customer how to eat their food. We will definitely not be coming here again. Sayonara!

CANYON CNTRY, CA
Living literally walking distance from this place, i sooo wished i would've took a chance on it much earlier than last night. So to start off my new year i wanted to take my sis out for some "SISTER BONDING" and let me tell you what a success it was, considering how fun that little under-looked sushi spot is. Asako (the owner) and the chefs greeted us right away, the vibe was steamy and risque very persona, LOVED that. She then suggested supreme choices for my sister and i, i had the Spicy albacore with onions (to die for) and my sister had the rainbow roll, it was just a bunch of awesomeness! O and to top it off, i had the specialty "ASAKO BEER" not being a big fan of beer, i honestly would drink that everyday lol, it was so crisp and light and also went perfect with the food. And one more thing, the music was pretty hot too, very lustful and flirtatious.

New York, NY
Walking into Asako sushi you are greeted by the namesake herself, with a bounding smile and oddly comforting yell. The somewhat harsh greeting is cut by a sultry bjork inspired soundtrack creating a loungey atmosphere without any of the pretensions you're often forced to endure when going to a lounge.
The food speaks for itself, well-priced and delicious. Asako makes 4 trips a week to the fish market which is evident in the freshness of any sashimi you order. We went on a depressingly slow Tuesday, but Asako made every effort to liven the mood, including joining us for a drink and cold sake on the house. Take the opportunity to enjoy this strip mall gem, and bring friends. Asako will be more than happy to accommodate. -

CANYON CNTRY, CA
Asako is very sweet but that doesn't make up for the slow service. She needs to hire more staff. Expect to do A LOT of waiting here. The food and prices were decent but there are other sushi places in Canyon Country that taste better and are faster and cheaper.

LAKE VIEW TER, CA
I will not be returning to Asako Sushi... I am not a huge sushi fan, I only go when I'm in the mood and I always only order one specific roll. I didn't see that roll on the menu so I kindly asked the waitress, who I believe is also the owner, if they could make me a spicy tuna roll with cream cheese & avocado. Her response: "no, this is an authentic Japanese restaurant, only order what is on menu" well after arguing with her for quite some time she finally agreed to put the cream cheese in for $1.00 extra... I have never been to a sushi restaurant that you couldn't special order a roll. We aren't in Bel Aire we are in Canyon Country. Maybe if they changed their customer service skills there wouldn't be a room full of empty tables in their restaurant! In America it's about making the customer happy; authentic or not.

Asako Sushi....what can I say. It has to be the best sushi I have ever had. Ive been to most sushi resturants in Santa Clarita and nothing amounts to Asako. This is a REAL Japanese resturant. Unfortunately, most sushi resturants in SCV are owned and ran by Korean owners and cooks. At Asako there are authenthic Japanese cooks and you actually get Japanese sushi. Not to mention Asako the owner, she has to be the nicest person alive. She is so passionate about her business and she take pride being able to make her customers happy. When you leave that place you feel part of her family, she'll get to know your name and you become freinds with her. If you are looking to eat great sushi, friendly service, and have a great time, Asako sushi is where its at.

Panorama City, CA
The greeting when entering the door is very loud greeting in Japanese from the chef and the host, which is quite nice. I like!
In every Japanese Restaurant, sushi is what I after for only also, the MISO soup. Everyone must have this BEFORE Or AFTER their meal! The MISO is very tasty with different kinds of ingredients on it. If I recall it have Scallops mix, seaweed, and many more. The host makes this, she told me. She only puts WHITE tofu! Yes, not brown or white mix together, JUST white! Anyways instead of reading this, why not try it when you eat at ASAKO!
First impression of this place is a bit small, but elegant and warming place to eat. The restrooms are on the side, kind of hidden. First time eating to this place was just for takeout because I have to eat it at school. The host recommend me the "Red Ocean," ohhmygawd that was spicy, since I told the chef I like spicy tuna, I think he made it too spicy? I don't know, but I liked it. Total recommendation if some people like spicy sushi. Next I got is Philadelphia Roll! It has cream cheese on it, but I asked the chef not to put that so he replaced something else to change that.
The service is really good. The waitress/host is pretty nice, we share some talk from this to that. She told me what's so good and popular for this place. What's the best and I of course trying out anything new and I don't mind ordering something i haven't tried at all. SO she helped me out on picking few things.
The restaurant is not busy in the afternoon mostly no people what so ever. I wouldn't say its the same at night since I haven't tried at night. Pretty much afternoon no/less people.
By the way, this restaurant has Friday night's karaoke! Just saw that when I went over there a few days ago. OhMyGawd i will so come here in one of those nights just to eat and listen, hehe, should be entertaining!
I became a regular here now, I love this place, plus the food and service. I will sit on the sushi bar next time :)!
I would come here for when I crave for raw fish and can bring few friends here.
I love raw fish!! I would try different sushi's next time =D
The host, I still need to find out her name, knows me now because of yelp. SO if you are reading this, DOMO ARIGATOU!Listed in: Sushi

Theee most entertaining sushi restaurant my husband and I have been to... our date night sushi place... at least once a week!
We ALWAYS start off with the Spicy Albacore Crispy Onion... this little appetizer's got a lot of flavor. The philly roll (order it with no cream cheese) is the most refreshing sushi roll served with a squeeze of fresh lemon and NO soy sauce. The salmon sushi and salmon sashimi don't get any fresher than this. The hot and sexy roll is very spicy! And if you're looking for something to quench your thirst, ask for the Asako Special with her heart in it :) -

Absolutely the best authentic sushi I have had,.... Forget the scv..... Ever! The chefs match delicate flavor profiles with each fish to create a unique taste for each dish. The hostess (Asako) is super friendly and warm and recommends what's best for each guest. No California rolls here!! Japanese owned and authentic. Karaoke Fridays if you wish...

Canyon Country, CA
This place is the best! Asako (the owner) is awesome, she is very friendly and remembers you everytime you come in (Or at least is good at acting like she does) . She really sets a great environment, she will recommend new rolls or which fish are the freshest. She has great service and loves to chat and get to know you. If you like to drink with your sushi (as most people do) her selection of Beers and Sake is alright but if you request it she will be sure to get it for you next time you come (as goes for any Sushi, kind of fish, she doesn't have that night). If you enjoy Sake Bombs she will more than likely join you, and after a couple of those she usually brings out the Karaoke Machine and gets the whole restaurant involved.
Bottom line this is my new sushi restaurant, for fair prices, great sushi and the best service.
Great place for a Younger Crowd to hang out -

Canyon Country, CA
I've been a long time customer... Asako sushi had the best sushi available. It's located in canyon country right next to the arbys.. If you haven't try asako you need to give it a try. Asako makes you feel like on of the family.. You won't get the small town feel anywhere else. The fish is amazing, always fresh and taste wonderful.. The moment you enter the restaurant you feel like your in your own kitchen at home with your friends.. Asako,.andy and bill are the best... stop by and try some sushi with her special beer... Once you try Asako's you never go to another sushi restaurant again. Make sure you come in a group so you can sing some karaoke..

Santa Clarita, CA
I have my new favorite sushi restaurant! Asako is a very warm and gracious host, who treats you like family. The food is awesome and you should take her expert recommendations. The decor is charming and she serves delicious organic iced green tea. My eldest daughter thought that salmon was supposed to be chewy, as the sushi restaurant she usually goes to serves it that way. Asako seemed concerned and brought out a complimentary salmon sushi that was NOT chewy for her to taste! Very impressive. I have only been for lunch, but, I am looking forward to dinner as well!

Review from Becky S.
Sunnyvale, CA
I am Japanese, and this place had the worst sushi and sashimi I've ever had. If I could give zero stars, I would. Their fish was definitely not fresh, indicated by the toughness and stringiness of texture. In addition they added tons of lemon to their raw fish to mask the poor quality of the fish. If you know good quality sushi, you never adulterate the fish by adding unnecessary sauces to mask its taste (what an offense). What was even more offensive was that when the waitress learned that I was Japanese, she apologized about the food even before we had tasted it!! Furthermore, the ambience was noisy with drunk people singing karaoke. Disregard the other (positive) reviews... they cannot discern good Japanese food

Review from Jessica S.
Santa Clarita, CA
Okay...the words I'm about to gush out on this review are as sincere as it gets. The sushi is amazing, I've yet to try something that I fervently dislike, and that's mostly because the sushi is served with the most tender of hearts. The chef takes great care in his sushi preparations, he figuratively pours his sweat and everything he knows into making his customers a sushi dish not to be reckoned with. Now, Asako, the owner....what's not to say about her! She exceeds above and beyond to make your experience one to never forget. I've been going here for a while and can say she single handedly made a friend out of me. I almost don't want people to know about this place because it's such a gem inside and out, it's such a rarity to find people in this business who truly love what they do. Come to this little hole in the wall if 1. Eating the most amazing sushi in SCV is something that will make you smile, 2. If you know whats good for you and lastly if you're tired of cold service from other restaurants who make it obviously apparent that all they care about is your money and business. This is not Asako sushi.
Come! And bring friends, karaoke night is hopping and you will not regret it! -

This place is crazy good!
We were just passing through Canyon Country and decided to stop in for lunch. I'm really glad we did.
If you're looking for authentic Japanese food, this is the place to go. If you're unsure of what to order, trust your hostess' suggestions - she won't steer you wrong. She's also the owner of the restaurant and it's clear that she loves what she does. She treats her customers with genuine warmth and grace - a rarity these days.
The chef prepares his dishes with great care and skill. The sashimi was fresh and delicious and even the iced green tea was perfectly brewed. If rolls are more your thing, try the Philadelphia Roll. Yum!
We'll definitely be going back to this little gem of a restaurant very soon. I'm already craving the salmon sashimi.... -
Review from I H.
Canyon Country, CA
Really? I was totally disappointed. We ordered Sake (Salmon) and others. When the lady brought Sake on the plate, she insisted not to use soy sauce because it had special sauce on them. I don't like when they put sauce, especially vinegar or lemon on neta (fish). Usually, that is THE SIGN of old fish and they are trying to cover it. Well, we tried and it was just sooo awful!!! We felt we wasted money on those 8 orders of sake! If she is the owner and telling people her name is Asako, I don't think so. She is DEFINITELY NOT Japanese! And she acts like old Japanese hostess lady. I really felt uncomfortable her representing Japanese. Anyway, when she asked us how we like the food, we told the truth and she was sooo offended by our honesty and started talking how she did business in Beverly Hills and she owned high-end sushi restaurant, blah, blah, blah. We wanted to get out of there asap! After we got out, we went to Margarita, Mexican restaurant and re-did our dinner. No way to go back there. It's just freaky!

One of the best sushi bars I have ever gone to!! The food was beyond amazing and Asako herself is just awesome. She becomes your friend instantly and is literally the best hostess / server I have ever met! I will most definitely be coming back without a question!
