Review from Huston O.
Miami, FL
I FOUND IT!!! I FINALLY found a sushi joint that's better than my all time favorite, Akashi, in Miami Fl. HO-LEE-MO-LEE this place was good!!
Reasons why...
Just like most sushi these come with many ingredients. First thing you notice is how fresh they are.. off to a good start. These rolls have a certain "lightness" that spares no flavor whatsoever.. NONE. You want another huge plus?? Before you sit just go ahead and walk to the nearest alcohol vendor and get a six-pack of Sapporo and bring it to Asahi, yup, it's BYOB! Service was also above standard.
THE GOODS:
Every sushi joint I go to I start with the Kanisu, while not as good as Akashi/Miami, came extremely close.
Rolls: I wish I remembered all the names :/ will update review next time I go.
I do know we had the 2002 roll & the kamikaze. Apparently the Monkey roll is amazing. I had a special roll that had scallions that was OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD.
Another BIG +. Every place you go that serves the crunch w/ the roll will put it on top of the roll, here they put it on the side. It'll be mixed with a few things plus some sauce, making it more of a side compliment to the sushi that is outstanding just to eat by itself.
The only TEASE about this place is that I'm in NYC and this place is so far from me!! I will be back though!! -

A must for sushi fans in Mo-town. Make sure to call ahead as it gets quite busy. Here are some faves:
Morristown Roll $12- spicy tuna inside w. shrimp and avocado on the top.
Fire cracker roll $15-deep fried soft shell crab, asparagus & cucumber topped with spicy crabmeat & more soft shell crab on the side
Monkey Monkey Roll $14- tuna, salmon, banana, crabmeat, cucumber, avocado, asparagus, tobiko wrapped in edamame paper and chef's special sauce, no rice.
Philadelphia Roll $6- smoked salmon, avocado and cream cheese. -

You can't always judge a book by its cover. Avoid judgements based on the exterior of the restaurant. The small blue sign probably does not attract many people but the food does. Asahi Sushi is a small establishment but they were able to reserve a table for 6 for my birthday last weekend. We walked in right on time for our 8:20pm reservation and a "reserved" sign was placed in a perfect table setting.
I really enjoyed the wait staff as they were nice enough to chat and answer any of our questions. One of my friends is not fond of seaweed and the waitress easily allowed for a substitute. Although we were having such a good time and were overstaying our welcome (the place closes at 10:30) they were not rude in rushing and kicking us out.
Now to the important part. The sushi is on point. The chicken teriyaki was very very good. It's fresh and lets not forget its BYOB. Out of the 6 person party, there was not one complaint. We will definitely be back. -

From a experienced sushi eater I'm telling you this place is where it's at! From the friendly and quick service to the amazingly fresh top shelf quality of their fish, this is the best sushi around! It's a small place in Motown but don't let it's size fool you, this place is a hidden jewel! If I had to say one negative it is pricey, but I am a firm believer in getting what you pay for and Asahi Sushi over delivers! 5 stars all day!

Amazing! The best service I have experienced in Morristown! Always happy and a big greeting when walking in to the door!
The rolls are all so good its hard to pick a fav! The fish is always fresh and never have to worry about getting sick.
The outside does not look the greatest but something you should def try. Its a little small in the inside and ALWAYS gets packed so make sure you go early, or just get it to go!
I only go here now for sushi!! :) -

At first I wrote a very positive review for Asahi. However, upon going back a LOT of times, it seemed that each time the service became slower. Even slower at getting us our initial drinks. and we've been noticing that the rolls, especially salmon rolls, have been very "fishy" lately.

Asahi is a great sushi place that is often overlooked due to its location and lack of bright signage. However, once you eat here, you'll have trouble not going back. The sushi is always fresh and their special rolls are delicious. The wait staff is so friendly, often remembering return guests. Small space, maybe 10 tables, so make sure you call ahead.
Take out here is just as good and fresh as dining in. -

I've come here a few times now and always have a pleasant experience. It's BYOB so be sure to pick up a bottle of something before heading in.
The lady who runs the place is adorable. She's very sweet, warm, welcoming and remembers you.
The sushi here is very good. Everytime I've been here the rolls have been delicious for everyone and to me, the sashimi tastes fresh and splendid.
Planning to go back on Wednesday. It's a casual spot that's easy to eat at and enjoy good company. -

Simply put, best sushi I have ever had. Love the 2001 roll, Alaska roll and they do a superior spicy tuna and salmon (it is solid fish, not chopped). Great atmosphere, excellent service. Seriously..eat here

I am a sushi fanatic.. it's really sad how it has become an obsession. I travel a lot, grew up on sushi since a 'wee youngin' and I know bad, so-so, good, and great sushi. every taste in a piece of sushi I can decipher...
I stopped here on a late night craving. Sushi was amazingly fresh! Kamikaze roll was wonderful. They are very creative which is another turn on. I tried there Sarah roll and they used a citrus-like sauce (daring). I was impressed. rolls were big and beautiful. Only reason I won't give them five stars is because there tempura (soft shell crab to be exact) wasn't the freshest, also a little overcooked (long crunch). Waitress was so sweet, a plus, and the place was cozy and welcoming.
I will definitely be back for their raw fish... not the cooked.
BYOB! -

Decided to pop in here after a long week of work in NYC. It was around 9 on a Friday and I figured I could get something pretty quick to-go. However, there were a couple people in there but it looked like they were eating so I looked through the menu and made my order. Probably the longest I have had to wait for sushi, but I got some insights into how the restaurant works so it was worth it
First off, the place is tiny. I really like that as it reminded me of Tokyo so much. BYOB which is a big plus.
One thing I noticed right away was how nice the people are in the place. They MADE me sit down and brought me hot tea, which I appreciated. Then they kept apologizing for the wait over and over as they were waiting on fresh rice and the sushi chef was a bit backed up. This was when I realized the 8 top in the back was waiting on an order.
Every few minutes they would apologize for the wait and even brought me some miso soup as I waited. I finished my free appetizer and the owner? asked if I would like more, but I declined as I didn't want to fill up on soup.
While I waited though, I did get to see the extent the people value their customers here which is a big plus. Many customers who came in were on a first name basis with the workers and even the little wailing child in the back was swiftly dealt with. The owner went there right away to see if there was anything she could do and brought the child a toy.
So service is good, but if the food is no good, then what's the point, right? Well, the food was great. Probably some of the best I've had recently. I had their Kamikaze roll which was 15 but ended up being huge and very filling. It was a really cool looking roll and just melted in my mouth. Also got two supporting rolls to get a taste of the fish quality. They were given nice amounts of avocado and cucumber and most importantly fish. I've seen some restaurants skimp out on avocado and I love it so I hate not getting enough of it. They do make their own soy sauce which is a nice feature and the rolls really held up well.
Had a great experience here despite the wait. I want to actually go in one day and sit down. I'd suggest going here in small groups and the place is pretty small. For takeout, I would call ahead because with only one chef the restaurant could get backed up quickly. -

This is a very small restaurant right next to George & Marthas. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's some of the better sushi that I've had in since moving to NJ.
The restaurant itself is very small and BYOB. I would not recommend coming here with groups larger than 5 or 6 people. It is peaceful though, you aren't going to hear plates banging all throughout dinner.
I found it odd that they only have 1 chef and 3 waitresses for the entire restaurant on a Friday night. It took us a while to get our food, but the waitress brought out Edamame to sort of remedy the problem. The staff was very attentive, maybe to the point of slightly over-attentive.
They have a good variety of rolls and the ones that I tasted were very good. I highly recommend the Asahi roll. Warning: It's larger than your average roll. If you normally eat 2, this one will be enough.
Also... the waitress told us that they make their own soy sauce. I thought that was very unique and a nice touch. -

Nothing but greatness!!! :) EVERY employee that was in that building made it a point to be friendly and acknowledge everyone that entered that establishment.
The service was impeccable, the owner was extremely friendly and personable, and the sushi was fresh and delicious. Definitely a must. -

Awesome sushi, a little too much tobiko flake (like that ever is bad thing), but overall generally fantastic!
Try the special rolls, had an amazing one with salsa that was surprising fresh tasting.
Will definitely be coming back every time I'm near Morristown -

We have been going to Asahi for years and we have had good food and service every time. This place looks modest from the outside, but it is worth a visit. The sushi is good quality and we all love the miso. They also make tasty katsudon. They changed the menu this year, which I think is an improvement.

I like this place. It is usually not busy and I do not know why since the food and the service are good. The place is quite, good for a nice quiet. Never been there for dinner though. The place is not big so the can only accommodate maybe 40 people. The chef is very professional. It is a good choice if you feel like good Japanese food at a reasonable price.

Asahi Sushi is my favorite sushi place that I've had so far. The sashimi is always fresh and the sushi man always makes creative rolls that make me want to return for more. The service is always friendly and courteous and treats each customer like their own family member. Based off of other reviews and my own personal experience, the owners seem to give free food or dessert sometimes. The sushiman knows that I love cream cheese in my rolls so he always whips a special roll that has a bit of creamcheese in it. The prices aren't bad an the environment is calm and cozy. I suggest the Easter Roll and the Kamikaze but everything there is really good. I highly suggest this place! Oh and it's also byob.

Best sushi in Morris County, end of story.
Restaurant is very small but the staff is super friendly and service is excellent. -
Review from Steve B.
Pretty good sushi, fish was fresh and tasty, good lunch special. There are, in my opinion, better places in Morris County (Yuki Hana, Nagano, Nara, the counter in the Morris Produce market) but it's a good place nonetheless.
Cute location, BYOB, nice staff, good sushi & non-sushi menu, but it's not the best place in town; that being said you could do a lot worse (cough Sushi Lounge cough) -

ASAHI Sushi is by far the BEST sushi Morristown!
My friends and I come here or order take out at least once a week and everytime the sushi is fresh and delicious. The have a huge selection of specialty rolls which are all outstanding!! The sushi chef is great with special requests as well!
Not only is the food out of this world good but the people that work there are the nicest around...I am always greeted by Yvonne with a huge smile and welcoming hello. She even lent my friends her umbrella one night it was pooring outside :)
I will definetly be continuing my weekly tradition...if you have never been you need to go immediately...you are missing out on a fantastic restaurant!! -

Morristown, NJ
Asahi is our favorite sushi place in Morristown! We've been regular customers for about 3 years now, and have never had a bad experience. The chef and waitresses know us by name and have our drinks (green tea and water) ready for us before we can ask. They are always chatty and treat us like old friends. They always greet us and ask how we're doing and then smile, wave, and say good bye when we're finished. Occasionally, they will give us edamame or mochi ice cream on the house!
The fish is always fresh, and the chef usually tells us what's best that particular day. It's a small place for sure, but that's why we like it! It's intimate and better priced than some of the other sushi places in town. Service can be a little slow if it's prime time and very busy, but it's worth the wait. For us, it's in a great location - we can walk there from our apartment in about 10 minutes.
Our favorite rolls are the Paradise and Tropicana, but really you can't go wrong with anything you order. We will continue to be patrons as long as we're living in the area! -

New fav sushi place in town! Eat in, dine out, you're getting great sushi and service either way. The hostest is also one of the nicest people I've met working in the sushi biz. Always a bonus when you're given complimentary green tea and miso when waiting on your take out. They're also very good at recommendations....latest I've had was the rainbow roll. Delicious.

Paramus, NJ
Visited this establishment with a friend a few weeks ago. It's a nice little place, very small compared to many of the other competitors around the area; which is not necessarily bad. It has a cozy atmosphere, feels very 'lived in'. They have a nice selection of rolls and sushi. Try one of the specials on the board. I got the jodi roll, a bit weirded out at first because it had salsa on top but was pleasantly surprised by how well the cilantro-scented tanginess accompanied the tuna. The tables are on the small side, although they have a few long ones in the back, so I'd advise bringing groups of four to five or lower if you want to have comfortable seating arrangement.

I'm from NYC, but I can't wait to get to Morristown to visit Asahi. Hands down the best Japanese restaurant I've ever encountered. Excellent service, family-operated, warm, cozy, romantic and enchanting. Even the rice is remarkable - and I've never noticed rice before. The sushi rolls are fresh, perfectly proportioned, and inventive. You can't get any better than this.

Asahi is a decent sushi restaurant near the train station in Morristown. It's reliable and the fish is fresh, but there are better options in the area.

I am sorry I have to rain on the parade here, but I thought this place was very forgettable. I definitley do not think it is the best sushi in Morris County, let alone the USA. It is very, very small. There are literally a handful of tables to sit at. I thought the sushi was very average - I wasn't blown away by anything.

It works for Japanese. But rolls (not the bread) fall apart and food doesn't taste absolute freshest.
