Finding beauty services and products in Pine Brook, NJ is impossible for African-Americans. The 2010 census gave the total of 274 of us in this entire area. All I wanted was a good hair cut. Lacking sufficient options, I settled for SuperCuts...until today. Would you believe that today I was denied services at SuperCuts? How low can you go?
Needless to say, I was enraged and was planning my retribution on my way home...but I still needed a hair cut. Instead of going straight home, I decided to take a chance and go to the sister shop of the awesome Payal Salon where I get my eyebrows threaded. This is a predominantly Eastern Indian establishment. The shop is Arya.
There I met Erol. I mistook his quiet reserve for the usual "deer in the highlight" reaction I usually get around here, What I was actually witnessing was genius! Erol asked me a few questions then proceeded to snip away. I ended up with the most precise hair cut I ever had in a style I had desired for years...in less than 20 minutes. He even shared his hair design plan for me and asked me to come back in 4-5 weeks so he could do some more magic.
I am ecstatic!
The moral of this story is: When someone does something bad to you...do something nice for yourself. It really takes the edge off of your disappointment and anger. You might even encounter marvelous surprises.
Hats off to Arya Salon and Erol (handsome, mature gentleman with a gorgeous shaved head) for having a clean, attractive and welcoming shop and for being the consummate professional! -

Worst service! Very rude and unprofessional. I was getting threading done and the girl was rough, pushing and pulling my face, complaining about my position in the chair and stopping repeatedly to make me reposition myself, even went so far to ask me if this was the first time I had ever had threading done. When I checked her work at home noticed she had left patches on my face and broken skin open. Same price as payal and bindiya. Personally I would pay 2 dollars more to be treated with some respect. Do not recommend this place instead pay your hard earned money to Payal or Bindiya. I will never go back. Rather drive 1 hr to find threading salon. Luckily they are a dime a dozen in NJ.
