Not just The Place to take your Louboutins. The Place to take any shoe repair, at least if you live in the neighborhood. Yes, there are cheaper alternatives but for shoes you care about or complicated repairs, it's worth the extra 10-20% (you won't find anything much cheaper in Chelsea anyways)
However, the cash-only policy is a bit annoying when your shoe repairs are over $50.
Note: the red soles aren't a perfect match but they're pretty close

I heard about Arty's in a magazine and took in a pair of Louboutins for the red-sole treatment. They did a fine job, but it cost $45 - cash only - which seemed unreasonably steep for a simple resole. So I asked around, and it turns out Hector's Shoe Repair (recommended and used by the Louboutin store) does an excellent if not better job for about half the price, and they take credit cards. They are really nice, too!

Arty's is one of the few places in the city who have access to red Vibram soles. For those of you who are not in the know, these are rubber soles that a cobbler adheres to a fine leather sole to protect it and extend the life of the shoe. Typically, they are only available in tan and black, which is problematic when the soles of your shoes are of a different color.
But Arty's gets them in red, too, and many many well-heeled Christian Louboutin wearers bring their red-soled beauties here. Arty's does a really high-quality job with these high-end shoes, returning them looking spanking. I have a pair there right now, getting red-rubber-soled, and I'm not worried about them at all. I've had shoe disasters at other cobblers (and I mean disasters) and so for me, not worrying about how my $500 shoes will look when I pick them up from the shoe guy is huge.
And I've also left inexpensive shoes here that needed major overhauls. The side of one of my black ballet flats tore and I wore the heel down to a minuscule nubbin. They look great now and only with careful examination is the tear noticeable. And Arty's treated them with the same respect and care that they do to the pricey shoes they see everyday.
Last but hardly least, Arty's is right by the 23rd street station and across the street from Murray's Bagels. That would be reason enough for me to give Arty's a whirl.

From reviews on other sites, Arty's sounded like a good bet for a few repairs I needed for my shoes.
I've used their services five times since working in the area and they saved some of my shoes!
I had a couple pairs worked on at another reputable shoe repair on the Upper east side and the sole was falling off the base of the shoe after a rainy day. I took the shoes to Arty's and they informed me that the wrong kind of glue was used last time, and that they'd fix it for me.
Now the glue holds, and the sole stays in place.
And yes, for Louboutin folks, this is the place to get them redone.
Also, I brought a purse in that needed a strap repaired and they fixed it too. It doesn't look perfect and same as brand new, but I think they did the best they could with the torn leather and broken internal support piece on the strap.
I thought it was a little shady that they didn't give me a ticket the first time I dropped my shoes off, but they provide prompt service and have a good handle on the repair jobs coming in and out.
Also, let me note that you do have to pay top dollar for good repair service, but here you can rest assured that the money is well spent as their repairs are top notch.
I love this place! Quick, friendly, excellent and neighborhoody service! I wish I still lived nearby.
Arty is a super nice guy. (At least whom I assume to be Arty is). Always remembers me. Always knows which are my shoes. I always would bring my shoes in to him in shopping bags and he's always comment on how I had the best shopping bags. And, in Chelsea, that is quite a compliment.
If you live and/or work anywhere near Chelsea get your shoes shined & repaired here.

First of all the name on the awning is Arty's not Artie which is what Yelp lists it as.
I have two great shoe stories.
1) One pair of bright (pink and orange) two tone suede Prada flats, they had a nasty denim stain in the heel. I had taken them to two shoe repairs prior, both who told me they weren't sure they could take out the stain and/or if they did it the color would likely fade as they wouldn't be able to spot clean it but would have to clean the enture shoe. Hello! Why do you think I bought bright suede shoes in the first place? For the peppy color of course! I took my shoes to Artie and he fixed it. Came back as good as new, no denim stain in sight.
2) One of my manolos are acrylic, and the straps are see-thru, the buckle, also acrylic broke. it's a beautiful, see-thru shoe that looks once you put it on your feet like you're wearing nothing. How to replace the see-thru buckle? Well Arty's Shoe repair did it.
Arty is good - they are a bit more than your average shoe repair but trust me they will be able to fix it.
It's cash only.

This is the shop to take your shoes to. While he's fixing some Christian Louboutin shoes he'll whip your favorite $50 six year old heels that are falling apart (ok, not yours, mine) and make them look as good as new. All this without making you feel like a gigantic cheap loser amongst the well-heeled clientele.

Artie is my guy. He's my special guy. He not only fixes my shoes, but offers protective treatments to prevent them from being hurt again. He makes them look brand new. I'm new to winters and cold weather in general, so he got my shoes in tip-top shape for what was to come. Note: He only takes cash.

Have a pair of much loved shoes destroyed by the winter salt or the insidious gaps between the New York sidewalks? Artie is the guy to snatch those shoes back from the jaws of death. His name is mentioned in the literally well-heeled circles as a genius and a gem. I personally call him "The Shoe Whisperer."

Artie did a great job re-soling my favorite pair of cowboy boots, for less money than I expected (about $40). If you stop by on a weekend, there will literally be a line out the door of the tiny shop. Only downside is, they don't take credit cards.
