Their tacos are pretty solid! For two bucks, you get a decent sized taco w/ lettuce, onions and cilantro. Mmmm. The meat is not overly fatty like some of these fly by night taco joints. And the people here are really nice. If you decide to sit down and eat your taco dinner there, you get chips and salsa for the table. If not, make sure you get some hot sauce to go. Both the red and green are great but the green is probably just a weeeeeeeee bit better.
The four stars in this review are based my own personal yummy experiences. I picked up food with a friend recently (he's not on Yelp yet but for the sake of keeping it Yelp-like, his name is Jeff K. "C") and as he took a few bites into his burrito, he bit into a small pebble. He thinks that they didn't wash the rice correctly before cooking it, perhaps. Not sure. Either way, he'd probably give this place 3 stars based on that. Never having had the burritos from there or anything with rice in it, my four stars still stand. This was more so a warning for you burrito lovers out there.
Last, but certainly not least, 24 hours. That's right, you drunken, taco-starved foolios. Twen-tee fawr hours. That's how late they operate. Word to your mother. -

It's decent. Rice is bad, even for most Mexican restaurants that make 400 gallons of rice in the morning and leave it under a lamp...usually I still kinda like that rice if it's made right. Now here. The tacos were decent, and the beans were pretty good, kinda melted in your mouth.
As for price compared to quality....eh. I've had better Mexican food at Del Taco. That was mean. -

Tacos-Tried the Carne Asada and the Al Pastor, both were really flavorful and tasty. I would come back again(actually went back 2 nights in a row..oops)
Guacamole-7.95 for a small cup that was half onions? Major heartburn, not enough avocado. NO THANKS.
Overall, solid place, more like a 3.5 stars. -

Not much to say or see, fast cheap mexican, and i had a frind with me from Mexico who lives in Chicago. It was exactly as billed, but nothing special. Not a repeat visit worthy place, but if your close and up late its a choice. Even his MiChilada was so so. My burrito was more tortia then veggie.
Note- have cash, they wont let you tip on your CC. -

fast, cheap, zero costumer service... sadly one of the few options for vegetarians after the bars close. I go back out of desperation but if I'd know of a better place for post-drinking nights out/late night snacks near logan square/wicker park I'd never go back. Also, they don't accept credit cards (or at least so our rude server stated). parking in rear is convenient. C-

Open 24 hours with carb-rich, slightly greasy, deliciously fatty Mexican food? Sign me up! I heart this place -- for all the aforementioned reasons, as well as the fact that it's a welcoming little joint right off the Western blue line stop with a wealth of options that are cheap and pretty damn good.
More plusses?
Free chips and salsa
Huge glasses for drinks (especially helpful if you're attempting to stave off a hangover the next day)
Ginormous servings - I had the chicken taco and received a serving as big as my head. Okay, not quite, but pretty damn close. I finished it, mind you, but it was definitely A LOT of food.
If you're in a time crunch, they can accomodate you - we ordered, ate and paid in 30 minutes tops. Pretty great all around. -

HORRIBLE, service!
I'll start by saying I've physically been to Arturo's once, and the service there was ok. So, I work downtown and normally order food from the puertorican place on California, they deliver and when they delivered the last time they brought me a menu from Arturo's and mentioned that they now DELIVER, I thought SWEET, as I love mexican food. So I ordered 3 tacos today, and they charged me $16 and some change, ok fine no problem. I assumed that included the delivery charge of $6, WRONG. Get off the phone and am content waiting on my food, the waitress or whomever took my order calls me back and tells me oh by the way there's a $6 delivery charge for your area. I was peeved bc she says well you will pay for that cash when they deliver, ok?! Umm...how about no, how about that's what I gave you my cc for...but to save myself the argument, I said fine whatever and hung up. Mind you this is the 2nd time I order for delivery and they manage to screw things up each and every time. Delivery man comes to drop off my food and sees that I didn't fill out the tip portion handwritten into the receipt and cops an attitude...Umm.. HeLLO!! You aren't charging me the delivery on my card therefore you won't get a tip on my card, I will give you cash like the delivery charge. Pfffttttt....needless to say gave them a second chance from them screwing my order and charge the 1st time and they messed up again, NOPE won't order from here again. I'll stick to Blue Agave close by thank you! PS. When placing an order for delivery be sure to speak spanish and very very very slowly as the phone order person doesn't seem to get anything right in any language. I spoke english, spanish, korean and the chick didn't comprehend! HORRIBLE! -

I have been to this place twice. It is a perfect late night taqueria. It isn't too divey, but it is casual and fun. I would not go there if you are looking for something more upscale.
They have a juke box and let's just say dancing has happened there every time I have been there.
They are open 24 hours. I was last there on halloween eve at about 4am and it was packed, not all with dirty, drunk hipsters either.
Food:
Order the gorditas. Please keep in mind we're not taking about Taco Bell "gorditas" or whatever they call those atrocities. These are real gorditas made from corn meal and lard. The last time I was there, they were a little bit too dry, but not too much. It might have been because it was super busy.
Anyway, try a gordita con queso y rajas. It is cheese with peppers. Don't order it with anything else in it, just like that. It will change your life. It is spicy and creamy and tastes like something your Mexican grandma might make on a Saturday afternoon.
The tacos, if ordered with just cilantro and onion, are great. They are made with white corn tortillas, too, not yellow corn tortillas like in the suburbs (thank goodness!). They have cabeza on the menu, but I don't think they serve it anymore.
disclaimer: The gorditas and tacos are kind of Americanized and they will put lettuce, tomato, and crema on those things if you do not request otherwise.
Their salsas are spicy and good.
Their mariscos look amazing and so do their tortas. I haven't tried those yet.
I like beans, but I think their beans are really bland.
Drinks: The horchata is good, maybe a little bit too cinnamon-y though. I haven't tried any other drinks from there yet.
Service leaves a little bit to be desired, but treat your server nicely, and she will remember you when you go back with your friends and be very attentive. Trust me on this one. -

When i saw that the girl behind the counter had pencil thin eyebrows, i knew it from psychology studies to be a sign of repressed rage. but when my check came, i found this out first hand. just saying, THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. the prices which are brought to your table ar nowhere near the outrages prices you will be charged for the mediocre (and i do mean mediocre) food served. I ordered 3 tacos with everything and an avocado torta. My bill came to $20.
When my girlfriend went to take it up with the woman at the couner, the girl cut her off before she could ask what happened and said "the prices are subject to change." rolled her eyes. Apparently she's used to people catching on to the scheme.
I said oh hell no and demanded an explanation. Nothing but sass. Well funk you arturos. I won't be returning, ya con artist twits. -

Avoid. There are several other places within a few block radius of Western and Armitage - hell, there's another place next door - because this place isn't anything special. For one thing, their prices are about a buck higher for everything than the place next door, and their portions are smaller. I guess they can charge that when it's 2 am, and this place would be perfectly fine at that hour, but at any other time of the day, head elsewhere.
And don't charge me 7.95 for guac and chips and only to have half the guac consist of onions. Yuck. -

I used to live right down the street from this place, so I went here.. often. Usually, just to pick up and go (which is what I would suggest), because the service is just horrible. I've sat and waited, 20 minutes just to receive a menu. 30 minutes to receive the check once. I will no longer bother with waiting for them, because they don't bring it to you, unless the table is needed. My water/drink is never refilled. And if you ever ask for anything extra, the waitress seems put-off by your request.
However, the food is delicious. The only thing that makes eating there worth it (as opposed to getting take-out) is the complimentary chips & salsa. Their homemade pico de gallo the BEST.
It gets more points for being 24 hours and cheap, but the prices have gone up at least $1.00 in the past year... which is lame. -

There's not much to say about authentic Mexican restaurants. It is what it is; the chicken enchiladas, rice & beans all taste the same. I always ask for the green mole sauce. Jason always orders the combo fajita platter or steak burrito. Muy delicioso. Soda comes in a can.
The price is reasonable and when you dine in, they give you a complimentary basket of tortilla chips, pico de gallo & red sauce. I prefered the pico. It was addictively hot!
Jason says the service at 5am is much better. I hope to never find out. Our waitress recognized him but that doesn't mean she was any more attentive than when we walked in.
The first employee I approached to ask if we seat ourselves didn't speak English so I tried my best to ask her again in Spanish. On that note, I couldn't help thinking about all the undocumented people working at Arturo's and the idiotic proposal from our Mayor for more minority loans to open more Mexican restaurants with undocumented, non English speaking Mexicans. Don't Politicians know they're no longer the minority? WTF -

Late. Drunk. Fast. Pozole. Yes.
This is about as close as I can get to mom's pozole without having to have her make soup all day and then drive an hour to get it.
And I can't do that at 1:30 AM when I've been doing black pickle shots at Sully's all night now, can I? -
Review from Meghan B.
I would only go here if I was already intoxicated, but isn't that the point of Arturo's?
I've had excellent meals here in the past when it was 5am and I was already feeling no pain, but I went to Arturo's this week stone-cold sober and was not impressed. They also forgot to put beans on the avocado torta. Ok then.
Basically: lesson learned, only patronize when drunk. -

Late night/very early morning bliss. I've never, until recently, been to Arturo's completely sober. But I finally did, and it HUZZAH! it was still pretty legit. The al pastor taco is quite tasty and I love the chicarron (fried pork skin) sopes. Service was good, and by good I mean they kept the free chips and salsa coming. And yes, they are pretty friendly too.

I was wandering around the bucktown/logan square area after a few drinks from various local establishments and upon arturo's I found. Tacos, damn straight, that's exactly what I needed.
So, I ordered up a steak and a chicken taco. These were packed with food and were on the cheap side, which was exactly what I was aiming for. No, I wasn't expecting killer tacos, and they were pretty solid. They more than hit the spot.
So, with me enjoying the tacos, why down to two stars. Well, it's cause their green sauce was like a complete blow torch to my tongue. Of course, in my inebriated state I dumbassedly went back to it on three occasions and the results ironically were the same each time. I normally love hot and spicy things, but this was vying for a man v food challenge. Since I didn't come here for that, I didn't expect it at all.
The service was very nice and I got my food fast. Too bad the temptation of green sauce comes with the tortilla chips. I'll need some milk with me instead of soda if I find myself here in the futureListed in: South o' the Border, Bucktown

Ok, it's not fancy, but it is clean and cheerful. The dishes that keep bringing me back are the Tacos De lomo, and the Chilie Rellenos as a taco requested, but not on the menu. The service has always been quick and friendly. And I have only been there sober unlike most of the reviews for this place. Also have had the cheese enchiladas...Yum! And the Huevos Rancheros. We usually eat here about once a month when we don't want to cook.
It really is good and affordable. -

Food quality here is plain nasty. Head to Lazo's next store if you want to upgrade a bit. But, why would anyone go here when just a few doors down the street on the same side of the street is the unbelievable Las Asadas!?

Most of the reviews for Arturo's are from a saucy hooligan's perspective so I don't think they do it justice.
The food is good. The steak has little to no pieces of fat and whenever I find that (which is quite rare) I tend to gush about the place. It's authentic and they don't take advantage of the gringos here with the prices like other restaurants in the area (*cough* la pasadita *cough*)
The older waitresses are sweethearts. They're attentive and they make nice small talk.
The juke box has everything from Los Acosta to Bon Jovi and if you wanna be super rebellious load it with 90s Spanish Boy (Men actually) Band Pop and sing with your buds...the waitresses get a kick out of it.
Lastly, you don't have to be hammered to enjoy the food. It's just tasty on its own so come in and don't skimp on the salsa verde over those tacos de asada or al pastor and for the love of perfectly seasoned meat, don't mask the taste with sour cream and cheese...go with onion and cilantro. You'll thank me later. -

AL PASTOR.
If I had known that both my carne asada and carnitas tacos would be dry and bland, I would have ordered all my tacos al pastor. Alas, I only ordered one of them and by the time I decided that Arturo's al pastor was by far the best meat out of the three, I was too full.
The food is solid and will hit the spot when you're in the mood for some Mexican, but next time I am for sure just ordering their al pastor.
Their pico de gallo is also pretty awesome. -

We went here after a concert at the Congress.
Food is fast and pretty tasty.
They have real Coke in the bottle.
Service is hit or miss.
The price is right.
Good food served fast.
Margaritas are available too!

This is an awesome place for mexican and the ambiance reminds me of a time in Tijuana.....
You woulk in to smells of tasty food and mexican music, with the senorita waitstaff asking if you need assistance. You have your choice of take out or to be seated; if the latter you can sit in a booth and get some complimentary chips with dips while you wait. The steak burritos are huge and good, and I like the horchatas (which I wish came in a bigger cup as I think its a small portion. (6 dollars for a steak burrito and almost 4 dollars for 2 bottle of mexican coke [in a glass bottle=woot!])
I have always gone in the wee hours of the AM, but I believe they are open 24 hours. But even at this time.....parking can suck. -

Late night Mexican Joint = Nice place for us drunk folks
Food is decent but I used to frequent this place because of it prime local for people watching.
The servers put up with a lot of drunken antics which to a point is okay however, on 1 particular 230 am venture into this place I saw one thing that was a bit foul.
I was snackin on my carne, when I was keeping an eye on this 40 something Mexican dude that was sitting at the "bar" area barely keeping himself on the stool when he decided to pop open a cold one-----a cold one being the bottle of hot sauce that he apparently mistook for a Tecate light. The man took that hot sauce halfway down in no time at all, then commenced to putting the cap back on. I informed my server of what had just happened and she did nothing about it, I mean the lease she could have done would have been to kindly walk over and throw the contaminated hot sauce in the trash....
when you see behavior like that at a restaurant you wonder what else could be going on in the kitchen and what not. -

Arturo's is good when you're drinking. I don't know if I've ever seen a sober person here, but if I did, I was too drunk to notice.
My latest experience here wasn't the best, but it was entertaining. I went with some friends from Arkansas. They came to the big city, and were overwhelmed. We were getting some awfully dirty looks from a group of hispanic youths that looked like they wanted to fight with us. Our waitress didn't want to wait on us. It took forever to get the food to us, even longer for the bill, and the take out box that we asked for never arrived. My solution? Walk out with the plate of food. Silverware included. It was almost as nice as a take out box, but now that plate and silverware are sitting in Arkansas, where they will probably never see the lights of Chicago again.
My friends have a souvenir from Chicago better than any walgreens Chicago shirt could fit them. -

OK. 5 stars for what it is- Mexican food done RIGHT. Thank God. There's only a bazillion Mexican joints in the city. Hey. If i'm gonna go out of my way to pay someone to fill my stomach, it better be good.
Surprisingly, this place hits the spot (and I'm a snob when it comes to eating out). So don't let the initial appearance scare you off.
I had shrimp tacos (who doesn't love shrimp tacos?!?!) with sour cream and avocado. They regularly serve with mayonnaise-- uhm.... i passed on the mayo. That's an abomination that has no business anywhere near my shrimp taco.
I was in awe. Completely awe. The shrimp was marinated well. The table side salsas complimented well and it was just completely on point, delicious, and I gobbled it up. Tableside chips n salsa were ok to snack on. no stale chips here.
My bf had al pastor tacos. Nice earthy flavor. Juicy... but maybe a lil over cooked on the edges. Served with onion and cilantro. he happily devoured.
Rice and beans? beans were yum.
Here's my conclusion. Mexican food should have amazing meats that don't hide behind condiments-- like a salad of things over the meat to disguise the meat's flavor or quality. i so appreciate that it's not a joint that throws cheesy glue over everything that hits your plate.
I will so be back. 24 hour spots are awesome for me. priced right and executes really good food.
service? looks like its running rampant with moms running the spot. =) but idon't mind. -

My parent's have been coming here since it opened, even before I was born! They raised me with the best Mexican food ever, thats for sure.
Though over the years, its become a bit pricey (NOOO!) it's still delicious. Being Mexican myself, I think it's really great here. Every time I come here, I always get the same thing. A large horchata, 2 tacos, a sope, and a gordita! My stomach almost bursts! The horchata is amazing too! The best in the city because it doesn't have cinnamon in it!
The paintings on the wall are pretty nice, a total upgrade to how they looked before! -

I've passed by Arturo's Tacos several times before, but for some reason, I kept thinking it looked rather sketchy, despite the famous giant sign.
Now that I moved in my new apartment a few blocks from Arturo's, I finally dropped in as I got locked out of my own apartment the other day and could not stand the cold while waiting for my roommate to come back home at an unforeseeable future. So that's how we met - Arturo's Tacos and I.
Oh well, I ordered a soup and a taco de lengua. The taco was amazingly good. All the ingredients were so fresh and now I am drooling over the thought of their tacos every day.
As I am more familiar with American restaurants, I thought the soup was gonna be a small bowl but it turned out to be this giant bowl. It was really good though, especially for a cold day. But I gave up finishing it. I've tried rather hard, but somehow the bowl of soup still looked like a pond the more I looked at it. So I packed it to go.
Anyway, I think I am gonna drop by again. The interior isn't really bright, but filled with Mexican cultural artifacts. The chairs and tables look pretty informal, so a locked-out, depressing girl like me didn't look too out of place. -

lately I have been jonesing for the mixed fajitas. One portion is great for lunch the next day as well.
When I went in yesterday with my book & just ate & read, they were so nice. Water refilled, food delicious as always. I had a whole basket of chips with their super spicy pico de gallo.
There are so many good taquerias in Chicago, but Arturos calls to me...I will always go back.

So we just arrived in Chicago and I was craving a Chicago hot dog, but it was Thanksgiving and everything was closed. We took a chance at this 24/7 Mexican place, and OMG - amazing!
My lovely fiance and I shared a steak burrito for around $6 - it was monstrous, the steak was high quality and so well seasoned. The service was fantastic. Highly recommend this place! -

One night somewhere about three drinks in at the Empty Bottle I blacked out. Not that this happens a lot but when I came to, it was somewhere around 3am I was two tacos in to what seemed to be the most delicious pork carnitas I had found in a very long time. They were moist, flavorful, and such perfect drunk food that blacked-out me failed to remember that she kept kosher at the time. Whoops.
I no longer keep kosher but I still come back after long nights out (once I could actually figure out which place it was having not um, remembered how I got there the first time), and the food always comes out fast, hot and with some salsa spicy enough to bring you back to earth. Even if you don't eat meat, there are plenty of options here for carbing your way back to sobriety.
So thank you pork tacos, for mopping up enough of the martinis to let me remember that I had ever found another great late night pit stop to add to my post-bar rotation. -

Al pastor
Honestly, that should be enough to get your mouth watering, away from your computer (or if you're on a mobile device and Yelping for some yum yums in the area), and into Arturo's. Sit down and burn your mouth on their delicious pico de gallo, order one al pastor tostada and one steak taco, and enjoy!
Or a burrito
Or one of their other non-traditional meats. -

Arturo's Taco Al Pastor are pretty darned good. Probably the best version that I've found in Chicago so far.
The steak tacos just okay. I just really wish all of the taco places would stop using Goya Sazon. FYI: Goya Sazon is the ubiquitous seasoning mix used by all taco joints. Basically all Carne Asada tacos are the same. It's skirt steak that's seasoned with Goya Sazon, cooked, chopped and cooked once again. Usually there's healthy dose of butter added in there somewhere.
But I really wish that taquerias would actually take the time make marinades. Sure, it's labor intensive, but you gotta dry roast the ingredients, puree them and marinate them to get the meat to taste awesome.
I wouldn't mind paying a couple extra bucks to have a truly great taco in Chicago. But so far I haven't had any.
But at least Arturo's has a pretty darned good version of Taco Al Pastor and they also have decent Salsa Fresca / Pico de Gallo. -
Review from Jelena Z.
Le sadness: I lost my hard-earned buzz at Arturo's. But on a positive note, I regained some of that dignity that comes with sobriety.
Yes... this is what an al pastor burrito does to a girl in the early morning hours!
Ah al pastor... the 'Mexican gyro' as described on Arturo's menu. Even tastier than expected, actually. A tender, well-seasoned mess o' meat. I'm throwing my old standby, carne asada, to the wayside! I wasn't even hungry but ended up eating almost all of it.
Service was good-- they kept the free chips and salsa coming along with copious water refills to take the edge off of that hot salsa. And remember they're dealing with a bunch of drunks. How do they do it? That's one hell of an enviable tolerance.
Bonus: getting serenaded by the dude with the guitar. Throw him a few bucks and he sings like a canary! Romantic? NO. Funny? Absolutely. -

Nothing caps off a busy day of festival hopping and free Slurpee crawling like a little Mexican.
Walking in we were quickly seated, given chips and salsas, and menus. Unfortunately, that was the most attentive service we received while there. We were never offered a refill on our chips and had to hunt down our waitress for water refills (spicy salsa + no water = bad news). Getting our check was another hassle, our server was nice, but elusive, quickly appearing and then vanishing in various corners of the restaurant like she had some sort of mutant teleporting power. After we spotted her in the sea of peach shirted servers it still took her a long time to return with our check.
I ordered 2 veggie tacos and a veggie tostada. I didn't realize that neither item comes with cheese until my food arrived, luckily tossing some cheese on my items was an easy fix. I did think the $.55 charge extra for cheese per item was a bit much, 30% of the cost of a taco for a sprinkling of cheese?! If you add cheese, avocado and sour cream your per taco price doubles! The extras aside, the tacos and tostada were quite good, especially when you add the red salsa that comes with the chips; I'd definitely pop in and order them again.
Food delivery was scattered. My food came out first with no explanation. Michael G and I stared at it while we waited on his food, which came out 5 minutes later. I think they overlooked his order, but I would've preferred they held mine until they were both ready. When my order came up I spotted our server put back one place setting when bringing my food to the table, even if I wanted to share Michael apparently wasn't allowed to have any silverware - weird.
Bottom line: Good food, meh service.Listed in: Mas tequila por favor, Wicker Town

Food is solid, food is cheap, and they're open 24 hours a day. What more can you ask for? This is my go to late night restaurant. I haven't tried anything on the menu that I haven't liked (and I've been eating there for over a year now). The meat on steak burritos does tend to be a bit fatty, and I also notice that my female friends/dates don't tend to enjoy it as much as my guy friends.

This place is kind of deceiving from the outside. From looking at the outside of the place it looks like a step above a taquiera but not yet a nice sit down Mexican restaurant. when you walk in the place, you can tell that this place is a slight step above a standard taquiera and a sit down Mexican restaurant. Definitely no surprises here.
They have a decent sized menu but i didn't want to get to adventurous so i just stuck with my standard, three carne asada tacos with cilantro and onion only. They did the trick and the prices were fair, nothing super-spectacular but they were decent.
This place is open 24 hours plus it is right off of the Western Blue Line stop so this could potentially be a late night stop for me when I get the late night munchies.
