Wow! I DJ'd a wedding in June and I saw what Athena was capable of doing The bridesmaids and the bride looked beautiful! The make up was NOT over the top as I've seen in past weddings and her pricing is very competitive. I noticed that she was very calm and collected when speaking to her clients.

I had a trial with Athena a few months back for my upcoming wedding, and I am uber excited about my big day! Personally, I could care less about whether the makeup artist is chatty or personable, as long as they make me look like a goddess after. With Athena, you get the whole package: she's friendly, talkative at the right moments, responsive, and she has great insight into what looks good on you and what doesn't. Hurry up Nov. 19th!

Athena is the BEST!!!! My gfs and I got our hair and make up done with her and everybody in the wedding gave us GREAT compliments. The three of us ( bridesmaids) got our hair up and each with different styles that matches our different personalities. Athena listens attentively to want you want and WAHLAH!!!.. you got your wishes granted.
Our make up was great as well. It was natural , not too heavy and she did it so well that your best features are truly emphasized. Everyone including the men in the wedding complimented on how beautiful we look. Even the owner of the winery asked me who did our make up and I referred Athena to him.
So don't look for anyone else in San Jose area. I highly recommend her and will use her again. THANK YOU, THANK YOU Athena! You made us so GLAMOROUS!!!! -

Athena did my makeup and hair a few times -- twice for an engagement shoot (one was ruined by rain), and on my wedding day. In my search for a hair and makeup stylist, I had a few trials with other artists, but Athena's work was noticeably better than the rest. Even my husband voted for her work, and could tell the difference! Athena is always very punctual, calm, collected, sweet and professional, which is very helpful on what can be a stressful, action-packed day.
For my makeup, Athena used airbrush makeup, false lashes, and her talents to make my face more beautiful than I have ever seen it. The looks she does are versatile, and can range from natural to glamorous, and I think she hit just the right balance for all of my events. I never had an eyelash snafu, or reapplication need throughout the day, and I never felt cakey or uncomfortable even though I have very dry skin.
For my hair, I wanted a very intricate design with braids, but Athena knew exactly how to turn my vision into a reality, and the result was better than any of the sample photos I had given to her. She also made a hairpiece for me that was affordable, chic, and pretty to wear on my wedding day. Athena doesn't ask a battery of questions about what you want, and thinks about the style before she starts, recommending what can or should not be done, which really made me feel comfortable that the woman knew what she was doing. And she sure did!
I have also been to weddings where the bride was gorgeous and the bridesmaids didn't seem attended to==not so with Athena. I only had 6 bridesmaids, but she had 3 of her assistants work on their hair and makeup, and my ladies looked amazing. My bridesmaids were Asian, but had very different features--single and double eyelids, longer and shorter hair, dark and light skin tones, etc. After all was said and done, though, each of them had a look tailored to their features, and they all looked so beautiful.
I wholeheartedly recommend Athena to anyone looking for a bridal makeup and hair artist. It was hard for me to find a match since I can be really analytical, but Athena is really a hair and makeup goddess! Even my bridesmaids who are hair and makeup divas themselves were so impressed with Athena and her team's work. I would give her and her team 10 stars if I could! -

my wedding was last month October 22. i should've written this review long time ago!! Athena did an incredible job on my wedding day and engagement photoshoot. The makeup looked very natural and best of all she used airbrush makeup which last all day w/o shine. Also, she's really talented with hair design. I searched so many bridal hair and most of them look the same? I had an updo (usually it looks pretty old) but my friends said it was unique and classy. Her assistant also did a great job for my bridemaids. My advice: you get married only once it's the day that all eyes on you :). Go with Athena!! i'm 100% sure she will make you incredibly beautiful.

Athena did my hair and makeup for my wedding in Santa Cruz. I was really happy with her work. She's pricey but it was sooo worth it!
I was just bummed that she didn't want to move to another room to do my mother in law's hair and makeup. I told her that I didn't want my mother in law to see me before the wedding but she said it would be hard to move with her makeup stuff so I just let her do it there. I didn't want to ruin my day because of it. Plus, her work was so amazing that it was kind of easy to let it go.
I would definitely recommend her, and I would consider calling her again for my future events. -

We booked her and her assistant for my makeup and my MOH's for our 12/11/2010 wedding. Makeup was one of my biggest concern during planning, there's so much emphasize on looking your best, makeup can easily "make or break" your natural beauty. I started looking for one 8 months before my wedding but for more than 7 months I couldn't decide on who because nobody felt right.
Well months seem to pass by like weeks, and weeks like days and before I knew it, it was only a few weeks till the wedding day and I still don't have a makeup artist. I don't know why I didn't book Athena sooner. Maybe I was afraid to make the decision till the pressure was on, I don't know. Regardless, I got Athena and she did a perfect job. Skin color was spot on, she knew my eye shape and got the look right. It wasn't too plain, or too smokey. She also fixed my eyebrows, and made it thicker without looking obvious. Overall, she complimented ME vs. just covering. (plus, it last all day).
That's why she deserves 5 stars and why I recommend Athena for Bridal makeup =) -

I just had my wedding yesterday at Thomas Fogarty Winery and Athena was my hair and makeup artist. Because I was having a brunch wedding, Athena arrived extra early (7:00am) to my hotel to do my hair and makeup. She made me look beautiful! She was extremely meticulous in creating my look, shaping my eyebrows before hand with teasers and trimmers. I got compliments from everyone at my wedding.
Yesterday also happened to be extremely hot (above 90 degrees) and with an outdoor wedding, I was "glistening" (aka sweating) but my airbrush makeup stayed put and there was absolutely no need to re-touch my foundation. Everyone commented on how great I looked and specifically my makeup.
Athena also went above and beyond by staying after she completed to make sure that I could put on my dress and complete the look before she left. She helped corset my dress as well.
I would highly recommend Athena - I definitely plan on using her for future events!Listed in: Wedding

I've worked with tons of makeup artists over the years and although many of them were saucy at what they do, few are as awesome as Athena. I've worked with her several times and each model she worked on was flawless. In fact, it's safe to say that her makeup artistry is one of the biggest reasons the photos I took of those models turned out so amazing.
Need motivation to hire her? Most of my current portfolio shots were her makeup work! Go Athena, you're awesome! -

Athena is a wonderful hairstylist & makeup artist. She was kind, professional & sweet from the first time I contacted her over a year ago to inquire about her services & pricing.
I went to her for a makeup & hair trial prior to my wedding and all went smoothly. It was a really hot day and it gave me a chance to see how well the makeup stayed put (I "glisten" -- girls don't "sweat" :-p -- quite easily). The airbrushing was really light, didn't feel like anything was on. It didn't run or streak. My long hair retained its curls (even after I fell asleep!) until I washed it out the next morning.
Her prices are really reasonable. Even though my wedding took place in Carmel, she didn't charge me an arm & a leg for travel from San Jose. Nor was her early-morning charge (I had a morning ceremony, so her services had to begin at 7am). Most other Bay Area makeup artists had prices through the roof!
She also did hair & makeup for my mother that day. My mother looked & felt so pretty! Athena's make-up enhances one's look & doesn't make you look overdone (unless that's the look you're going for, of course). She even smoothed out my hubby's complexion for free!
Oh, and Athena, if you're reading this.... my brother said he thought you're really pretty cute, but he was too shy to tell you! -

Athena did my make-up for a photoshoot I had a few weeks back. She did such a wonderful job! She's very precise and focused when it comes to applying make-up so you know she's taking her time to make it perfect. She defiinitely has an artistic side to her. Look at her photos!
Besides all that, she's a very sweet person and so great to work with. I would definitely recommend her if you're ever looking for a MUA.

She did a good job on eye-brow. I am happy with the hair. But I don't like the makeup. The makeup does make me look different, but not look prettier.
It is $500 dollars for two hours, and that was with some discount. She told me other makeup artists charge $800 for the same service. It maybe not expensive to other people, but it is definitely pricey for me. -

Athena U was my makeup and hair stylist for my wedding in Monterey and she made me, my bridal party, and the mothers look gorgeous!
During and after the trial, Athena worked with me to find the right look and was open to my suggestions and I completely trusted her advice. On the day of the wedding, Athena arrived on time with her assistants and set up shop. My sister in law wasn't planning on having her makeup done, but after she saw my results she got her makeup done as well! My mother has short hair so she wasn't sure they could do much with it, but they styled and curled it to look fabulous. My mother said she received numerous compliments on her hair. People have begun to send me their pictures from the wedding and the hair and makeup look absolutely stunning.
Athena's hair and makeup services was one of the best wedding day investments I made! -

Athena and her team (Jenny) did makeup and hair for me and my bridesmaids on my wedding day. I have to say that she really did a great job! Athena arrived early and was fully equipped. She designed this super cool hair style for me based on what I wanted, but it was much better than I thought. I got a lot of compliments on the complexity and uniqueness of it! When it came to my makeup, Athena gave me a very photogenic look. On top of that, she made all my bridesmaids look like super models. Seriously, they must be like the prettiest bridesmaids I've ever seen! I was so proud!
Athena was easy to talk to and very sweet. She had a good sense of style herself which really helped to sell her business. Thanks to her I looked so good on my big day and I didn't want to wash off my makeup after the wedding haha. If I had the money I wish I could hire Athena everyday to do my makeup and hair.
Athena's price is very reasonable as well. If you look around and compare, you will know what I mean. -

Athena is a very talented and gifted makeup artist and hairstylist!! She really works with you to establish your makeup comfort level. She did a trial run a weeks before the wedding so I could get an idea of what to expect and then recreated that look on my wedding day. She arrived with all of her supplies ready to go and truly transformed me! I was not overdone and the makeup looked very natural. I received compliments all day and my photos were amazing! Most importantly she really achieve the overall look I asked.

I had a photoshoot with Athena about a week ago and I had a wonderful time. The theme of the shoot was dark clouds in the baylands. My make-up was dramatic and Athena mastered the smokey eye look. I was worried because my skin started breaking out a couple of days beforehand. But her air-brush kit really covered up the imperfections. She curled my hair into nice soft waves with no fly aways. With the way she did my eyes, you can really tell she has a lot of knowledge about the lighting and camera distance. Athena is not only fast at what she does, but she is also accurate, diligent, and best of all, she has a very bright personality. She is definitely someone I would want to work with again!

Athena did my makeup for my engagement photoshoot and my wedding day this summer. She did a fabulous job both time. I requested airbrush makeup, and it was definitely worth the extra $20. It feels so light like it's not even there, and definitely look great in picture. I also had a great photograher (bee's photography) too, who were able to captures beautiful images.

Athena was my make up artist for my wedding on 10/10 at Purple Orchid Inn. She was wonderful to work with, always listening to my suggestions and ultimately creating the perfect look for me. She gave me suggestions on what length to maintain my hair, how to maintain my eyebrows..etc. She is just a very sweet person to work with. On the day, Athena's tires blew out so she was a bit late to the location. But she was able to finish my flawless makeup and hair style with time to spare. Athena even helped put fake eyelashes on my bridesmaids for a nominal charge, even though she wasn't booked for their makeup. Thanks so much, Athena! All the compliments I got on the day is because of your hard work. I wish I naturally looked that good. =)

Athena is an amazingly talented makeup artist and hair stylist. She is professional, efficient, and so easy to work with. I recently got engaged and was looking for a makeup artist for my engagement party. I found Athena on yelp and decided to give her a try since she has great reviews and the pictures of her clients look very pretty as well. I called her and she was very friendly on the phone, very accommodating with the scheduling of mine since I work on weekends mostly. We set up a date for the trial and it was very exciting! Athena is very friendly and she was willing to try on different shades and types of makeup styles with me. I wanted to be elegant but at the same time natural and she was able to make it happen without being too overly done. I was very happy that I was able to see what i would look like with different shades and styles. Athena is very professional with her work and is very sweet when it comes to what I want. She is the perfect makeup artist out there and I was lucky to be able to find her. If you want a professional and friendly makeup artist, you need to try booking Athena for a trial. She is very talented with makeup and hair and you cannot go wrong with her. I am not sure what the other reviews are about because Athena was very flexible and easy to work with in terms of getting me what I wanted to look like. Since I was very impressed with her makeup and hair work, I booked her for my wedding at the end of the year!

Hm. Seems sort of odd that there's no range of reviews, but I digress. I wasn't thrilled about my makeup at all. Despite repeated attempts to emphasize "natural" and "not overdone", I came out looking like a drag queen. And there are some gorgeous drag queens out there, so I mean no offense, but I didn't look like one of them. I added 1 star because she's a really sweet person and she tried her best to adjust the makeup to make it lighter and softer. But...it still looked like I had 3 pounds of makeup on. When I got home, my fiance actually flinched when he saw me, and then just stared at my face for a good 2 minutes without saying a word. Not exactly the type of reaction you want! When I went to wash my face, I had to use heavy-duty makeup remover plus 4 generous pumps of facewash, then another round of makeup remover. Like I said, she's a really nice girl but perhaps more fitting for a bride who wants a lot of dramatic makeup.
