Artisans was originally in Mill Valley but has found a nice warm spot next to the Donna Seager gallery in San Rafael.

It is a "non-profit educational arts organization" that, basically, thrives off of the local Bay Area talent.  You will see emerging artists of all kinds (i.e., metal arts, painting, sculpture, etc.) exhibit their artwork.  Most importantly, the artists on tap are on heavy rotation since Artisans shows on a monthly basis.  Of course, many gallery shows last for a month (give or take a week) but this is emerging artists I'm talking about.

The space is phenomenal and it gives any interested Bay artists the confidence that they can show on the same walls!  Again, the staff is friendly and eager to help.  Again, it's a bit out of the way and not in San Francisco but if you are seeking a place without the hard edge and a quiet stroll along a nice street with a bit of homegrown art and culture, go see what's happening at Artisans.

This gallery was rockin' last weekend! On first pass they were playing James Brown & a bunch of really white, white people were dancing. About an hour later it was still jumpin' so we decided to check it out. There was a lot of fully amazing art on the walls. Seems like to the right was more affordable (for me) stuff, very cool & funky. To the left was all the work that is over $2K. I chatted with a a fella by the wine who told me about the non profit work the space does and I was even more delighted. There was a really great spread, wine was a flowin' and the DJ was kickin' out the jams motherfucker. I suggest checking the art out at this place if you find yourself in the area.
