I just stumbled into this place because it was too cold outside to walk any farther. It was so good! When we sat down we immediately were brought pickles, peppers and cole slaw. I love pickles, peppers and cole slaw! The liter of beer is amazing too. Supposedly this place is a great steak house, but I hadn't yelped before I came so I had no idea. It definitely wasn't the type of place I would order a steak at and my friend and I ended up making fun of the woman at the next table who ordered the filet mignon. whatever. our mistake.

so we had the burger, nachos and the side of potatoes. The burger was so juicy and I craved it the next day. the nachos were definitely pretty gross, but the potatoes were delicious. i would say one of the best side of potatoes I've ever had and they are super cheap--$1.25. I should have bought more to bring home.

Good food with good prices, even by Hoboken standards...
Walked past the kitchen a few weeks ago and you see the potatoes stacked three feet high...
Service is pretty good.
Everytime I visit my brother in Hoboken we hit Arthur's.

Only downside? It's like a maze once you get in there :)

Arthur's is one of those places that you go there for one thing...steak. Don't expect fancy specials, or colorful decor; it's a steak and potatoes place, and they do it well.  I've had better steaks at other restaurants, but Arthur's is good.
They give you a bowl of pickles and peppers when you sit. Their garlic bread is good, as is their side of potatoes.  It's big enough for groups and ok for kids. Parking is...well it's Hoboken so parking sucks.
Overall an ok dining experience.

Arthur's is a great place to hang out and wind down, especially with a group of friends. The prices are really good and the steak is nice and juicy. It's a no frills place and the plate comes pretty basic with potatoes on the side. I found that the steak is cooked so well that you don't even need to use any kind of steak sauce. Compared to the steak at the pricey Palm Restaurants in Manhattan, I actually prefer Arthur's steak. I haven't tried anything else on the menu but then again I don't know anyone who has. Can't go wrong with Arthur's.

If you're in the mood for good, cheap steak and lots of it, Arthur's the place for you.  Medium rare might come out a little too medium for most steak lover's tastes, but for the price and portion size it's hard to really complain that loudly.  The side of potatoes with onions is surprisingly excellent. think there's a hint of tomatoe sauce in it. If you need more carbs, have the fantastic piping hot garlic bread. It's loaded with parmesean cheese as well. Plenty of beer is on tap as well.

Okay, so Arthur's might not be the best steakhouse in town, but it is one of the greatest values around. I've been enjoying these steaks since I was a teen and every once in awhile when the urge strikes we take a drive through the tunnel and end up here.

Love the garlic bread, enjoy the steaks and the tall glasses of soda. I actually like to leave a little steak and potatoes to doggy back and heat it up for another meal the next day.  I really enjoy the tavern like atmosphere and the whole place erupts in loud clamor when sports is playing on the tv.

I always remind myself to leave space for the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Sometimes it's all I really secretly come for.

Have you ever been to that local steak joint that you find in almost every town across America? It's packed, has been around long enough to be an institution and generally sports a pretty hearty menu of large portion plates. That's Arthur's except that it happens to be smack in the middle of Hoboken and unlike most of those other restaurants, Arthur's serves great food. Is it the best steak I've ever had in my life - no. You can go to Smith & Wol or something like that, drop a couple bills and get a better steak. But if you're looking a place to come to and grab a great $20 steak in a no BS or frills restaurants decorated by a combination pictures of patrons a beer/liquor signs, I recommend you check out Arthurs.

Food breakdown:
-Garlic Bread, not mind-blowing, but pretty awesome & for $3.25, it's a no brainer
-BBQ Ribs - 4 thumbs up... not sure what that means, but that's what I heard
-Ribeye - a bit fatty, but very good, cooked perfectly and served was interesting potatoes.

I look forward to coming back. BTW, in case you're curious, the service is quick and on point.

I went to Arthurs this past Sunday when they opened at 2pm.  The service was great.  However, I was disappointed at the food.  The onion soup temperature was moderate at best.  Same thing with their potatoes.  The hamburger was ok (I usually order the steak).  I guess I was expecting more?  I have been to Arthurs numerous times and I don't know if this was just an off day or this is what to expect in the future?

When you walk into Arthur's, you know what you are getting. I don't know about you, but there are many times that I just get that craving for meat. Whether you like your meat ground up into a nice patty or just as 12-24 oz (or 48 for those so bold) slab, Arthur's will never fail to satisfy your protein craving. The restaurant screams that it is a steak house full of history. We were seated relatively quickly to the familiar picnic table covers. The waitress was very nice, but a bit slower than I would have hoped since we were pretty much the only ones in the restaurant at 3pm on a Monday.

We started off with one of my most favorite appetizers in all of Hoboken, garlic bread. If you've never had the garlic bread from Arthur's, I fully recommend it. I've had it for the past 4 years I've lived here, and it's never disappointed. For my main course, I ordered an Arthur's Junior Sirloin with potatoes, which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My guest got one of Arthur's cheeseburgers with pepperjack cheese that was also cooked to order. Just like the garlic bread, the dishes were cooked with the same quality that you've come to expect from a Hoboken staple.

It's easy to see why Arthur's has been in Hoboken for as long as I can remember. It is definitely one of the best steaks and burgers in Hoboken for a modest price. It's a great representation of the saying, "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

Definitely a great value (24 oz of "ribeye" for $24), but the steaks are average.  I ordered mine medium rare and it came out almost medium well and a little tough to boot.  To their credit, the mask the mediocrity of the considerably fatty meat with lots of salt, pepper, and seasoning so the first bites are pretty good.  The fried potatoes on the side are good too, as are the unlimited pickles.

If you're craving red meat and aren't too picky, then this is definitely a good place to come.  I'll come back again too, and order my steak rare.

4 STARS for price to portion ratio..

We ordered takeout from Arthur's last weekend and while I was skeptical of ordering a steak TO-GO .. my other half assured me it would be great.

When he returned with our meals not only was I shocked at the presentation but the portion size was RIDICULOUS!!

Now this is not the best steak in the world .. nor is it the worst. But the portions are large and the meat is tender and tasty.

The steak is a great Sunday meal .. and there are plenty of leftovers for fajitas the next day.

I highly enjoyed my meal; the steak was cooked to perfection and also seasoned well.

If you live in Hoboken, it is inevitable that you will at some point end up eating at Arthur's. It's loud, mildly obnoxious, but fun, and great for groups, especially if those groups contain hungry guys that are bottomless pits. The portions are really huge, hence the fact that I never actually ordered a steak here, only nibbled off of other's in my group. Did have the burger and that was very tasty. My standard order was always a side caesar salad (great dressing, yummy croutons!) and some garlic bread (so deelish!). It's really inexpensive, relatively speaking, and seriously, you can't live in Hoboken and *not* eat here at least once... also open late-ish.

Unless someone can tell me a better steakhouse in NJ, I would have to say this is one of the best places where I have eaten.  Arthur's is where I had my first good steak.  I was surprised that I even finished the 24oz steak (I'm kinda skinny).  But I like how your served with complimentary pickles and cole slaw.  When I got my 24oz steak, it was pretty tasty and it came with a lot of potatoes.  The homemade potatoes tasted great and nothing beats  homemade cooking.  Another thing that I like about this place is that our waiter was very friendly, made sure we were ok, and took care of me and my group when we were there.  I highly recommend this place because one main thing about this restaurant is that our order didn't take long even though the place was packed compared to other restaurants.  If i lived in Hoboken, I would spend at least two Sundays at Arthur's Tavern for dinner.

Arthur's has always been a "safe bet" place in Hoboken.  Steaks are very good, especially for the price.  I'm into steaks, but I usually need to have white rice, so I opt for the burger.  My wife usually can't finish a whole steak, so I benefit off her shortcomings.  When I usually order the burger, people think I'm nuts, because when you go to a steak house, you don't order the burger.  They are usually left for the non-adventurous and the kiddies.  Call me non-adventurous, but I think I've discovered the best burger in Jersey.  It comes out like an average no-frills burger, bun, and veggies on the side.  Once you sink your teeth into that meat, you'll be hooked.  5 stars for the burger alone!!!!

Go hungry. The steak is enormous, and the cut is a delmonico rib-eye. Lots of heavy, beefy, chewy meat. Does it have flavor? Yes indeed. But it's not the greatest cut of meat, certainly not a 'melt-in-your-mouth' kind of steak. i could only finish half of my 24-ouncer (very rare i can't finish a steak). My favorite part of the dining experience has got to be the pickles and peppers you get at the beginning of the meal. Skip the iceberg & tomato salad, it's nothing special (inferior to most steakhouses). The burger, however, is recommended (i've gotten the blue-cheese burger, it's real nice). The potatoes that come with the steak were decent, if you like mushy potatoes, but they were tasty.

Good place. If they had half ratings, I'd give it a 3.5.  The staff is friendly, food is pretty good, but nothing really stood out to me.  I also wish that they had regular fries.  The home fries weren't bad, but i do prefer the regular type.  I warn you though, the portions are VERY generous so don't order too much or you'll either leave with a full plate or an upset stomach.

A liter of beer is a wonderful concept though.  Blueeee moooooon!

I'm a bit of a burger snob and this didn't do much for me. The place itself was fine with checkered table clothes and pickled that arrived upon sitting down, but it was just lacking.
My burger was cooked to a proper medium rare which not everyone does, but it was so greasy. I don't know how I managed to find room for a Crumbs cupcake afterward, but I did.
Don't use the single stall bathroom off the back room. Dirty water splattered upon flushing on the floor. Gross!

This is the one of places that's worth paying toll to go to Hoboken, NJ for a dinner. 14 oz steak will shock you and good - 24 oz, you dare to try. This place is pure rugged steak house in pub style - loud, big and old and crowded and on and on.  One friend likes his steak rare rare and when it comes out it is gigantic and even gross looking a bit bloody. LOL but he likes that way. Heh.  Same size in medium rare cook feels half the volume. and it gets smaller as it gets cooked more as you know.

Anyways, it is a deal.

I've been hearing about this place for several years now and finally made it a point to check it out last Sunday 09/13/2009.

First off, I'm not much of a sirloin steak fan (rib eye fan here) and with that said the sirloin steak that I had here was great. I ordered a 12oz Aurthur's Junior (I'm not too sure about the name of the dish) sirloin steak with mushrooms on the side and couldn't have been more satisfied with my choice.

The meat was cooked a perfect medium. It was juicy and tender. Although the potato sides were not of much interest to me.

The overall ambiance of the establishment seemed to be that of kitschy restaurants like TGI Fridays are trying to accomplish but done right.

Our server was great, she was polite, attentive and not overbearing.

The restroom had an old world appeal yet clean and comfortable.

I would definitely eat here again.

Decent solid food - nothing spectacular but an ok price. The steaks are very marbled and a decent price, although the taste (amount of seasoning, chewyness, etc) can be hit or miss. The garlic bread is really good and I highly recommend trying it.

The tables are a little on the small side so it can feel a little crowded, but overall a pretty good atmosphere with people who just wanted a regular steak for dinner. The ribs were mediocre, decent sauce, although a bit on the tangy side, but I love it when the meat falls off the bone, and here... not so much.

For $23, I would recommend trying the very large cut of steak (if you're a meat eater).

don't expect fancy cuts of meat here... just big slabs of different shaped pieces of meat... cooked supposedly to your liking but its a hit or miss...

one of my friends asked for rare and his came out medium and no fat and oddly shaped too tall not wide

mine was supposed to be black and blue but it was more medium rare and flat and thin

my friends was supposedly to be medium rare but came out more like rare

consistency was just horrible

however the good items omg
- garlic infused with real garlic stuffed in buttery goodness soft bread... totally eating that for breakfast
- famous potatoes - a lil on the saltier side, smooshy not crispy
- nachos when warm - tons of flavorful ground beef and yucky cheese that solidifies after a few minutes

service super slow

but for the price, its good money...

for the quality, go to the city!

This steakhouse is a little rough around the edges for an old-school steakhouse for my liking.  It's no Moran's in Chelsea or the Palm in Turtle Bay.  What do I mean?  Oh, I don't know, maybe the grittiness of the floor, the picnic table covers, the overall maze layout, and too many - WAY too many neon lights shining inside (seriously, WAY TOO MANY NEON FLOURESCENT LIGHTS!!) don't really give me that old-school steakhouse feel.  I actually felt sad and dirty inside, that would probably not be a good sign of "atmosphere".

However, Food is pretty darn good for the price.  Soon as you order, they place a bowl of pickles and some (non-mayo) colseslaw on the table.  That cole slaw is really good, but I don't know about the little styrofoam plates to serve yourself - that's not really a cute or cool detail to have at a restaurant to make it different - but that's just my humble opinion.  Kind of cheap-o.

A decent steak will run you about $17 - $25.  They come nice and juicy and flavorful with a side of greasy, spiced potatoes.  Mmmmm.. Burgers, I love my burgers if you don't know and I'm pretty particular.  They were large and served on a large kaiser roll that was a bit too big for the patty.  I had to peel off the excess bun so I could have a good burger to bun ratio.  Boooooo.  Nonetheless, the flavor on the burger was exellente and the swiss cheese on top was thick and gooey and pretty friggin' awesome.

Oh - They do have outdoor seating on those wonderful summer lovin' nights.

Had to write about Arthur's, as I was just writing a review of another steak place.

Arthur's is the steak joint that I use as a yardstick to measure all other steak joint's buy.  Great food, good service and reasonable prices.

You could drown yourself in one of their huge mugs of beer and, gods know, I did on more than one occasion.

Possibly this might be the best, if not the only, reason to go to New Jersey.

Happened to check out this place for the first time.
You have to walk 2 rooms inside for their bar cum diner space.
Had a draft of Sam Adams while checking out the menu.
They also had free complimentary Cole slaw, peppers and pickles, which was cool.
I ordered the medium Chili Nachos.
In about 20 minutes my plate arrived.
Plenty of crispy nachos topped with beef, chili and cheese. What a gr8 taste!
The portion was huge for a single person. (Super value for your money).
I'll come here back to try the steaks.

Time for a stream-of-consciousness breakdown about what I love about Arthur's.

The burgers are comparably priced to burgers you'd get in other bar/grill joints, but about 1.5 to 2 times the size and of better quality.

The potatoes are so unhealthy but delicious.

Possibly the best garlic/cheese bread I've ever had in a restaurant.

Liter mugs of beer.

Incredibly good cheesecake.

Fairly priced and especially great for groups.

I went to Arthur's Tavern for the first time with my brother and sisters. The decor was a little bad but the food and service make up everything. As soon as we came in a polite waitress greeted us and took us to our place. We ordered ribs, cheeseburger, 14oz our steaks, italian wedding soup and the Shrimp, steak, rice combo. For beverage we ordered the pina colada and beer. The sizes of the beer mug was huge and the pina colada was okay. I have to admit the pina colada was not as good as it looks. I'll post photos of what we had.

Before getting our food, they served us pickles and peppers before getting our food. And the pickles were awesome. Just eating it alone was okay for me. When we finally got our food. The food was huge, my oursteak was one of the biggest steaks I ever had. The ribs, cheeseburger, and shrimp steak combo was good. But the oursteak was the best. It was nice and charred. They cook the steak medium rare which was good almost perfect. I didn't even needed A1 steak sauce. Because I believe a good steak does not need anything with it. On top of that, the potatoes served with the steak was extremely good.

The prices are a bit pricey but not too much. For around 10-25 dollars, you'll get your money's worth. We couldn't even finish all of our food so we had to take some home. I definitively recommend this restaurant. In addition, the waitress that served us was really sweet. Her name was Susie, so hopefully everyone will be greeted by her.

To wrap things up, I rank Arthur's Tavern a 4 star due to the bad decor and bathroom door which I thought was broken lol. But, the food and service was top-notch.

Arthur's is a real treasure in Hoboken. Sure you can get a good steak a few other places, but this is Steakhouse! Every table starts off with complimentary pickles, tomatoes, peppers and sauerkraut. What class! Unfortunately, that's about where it stops. The spartan decor can be forgiven for the restaurant's nature, but not the styrofoam plates. Service is decent for a steakhouse, but certainly nothing special - that's left for the food.

Their 24oz. Delmonico Rib-Eye can be a bit gristly, but is juicy, packed with flavor, and always cooked to order, plus it comes with some pretty decent home fries. If you want the perfect steak, you'll have to go to Manhattan or to Peter Luger's for a dry-aged porterhouse, but Arthur's isn't trying to compete with those $40/steak bigboys. Afterall, a side of onions (greasy, not caramelized) is a mere 99 cents! Add in a side of mushrooms (greasy but cooked just right) and you've get yourself a great meal. Although not as perfect as their signature steak, Arthur's offers excellent burgers, ribs and a slew of decent deli sandwiches, not to mention their specials.

My only real gripe with Arthur's is that their wine and beer menus leave much to be desired. The wine list is (barely) passable, but like everything else, extremely well priced.

After 17 years this place is still great!
I did not go for my usual 24 oz.  but settled for the Junior with side order of chili & salad.
The Pina Colada is a must.
If it wasn't for the expensive Hudson River tolls I would visit more often.
Warning- it was very crowded this weekend.

We came here only once, but it has left an impression on us.  Their steaks are big, good and CHEAP.  The garlic bread is seriously to die for.  They also have pickles, which was a bit strange for me (especially since I don't like them) but hey, whatever pleases the people, huh?

The lighting is kind of weird, it's sort of dark, but with neon lights.  The staff is friendly, and the crowd is usually LOUD.  Don't expect to have a decent conversation here, or a good date.  Come here if you want to NOT talk to your date (or if she/he is boring).

Can't wait to come back here again!  Too bad going to NJ costs us a pretty penny on the Lincoln Tunnel :(

I'm literally salivating as I think about a steak and potatoes form this place....yum.

I've been here on several occasions, the best ones being dates. It's a great casual place, with a warm environment and satisfying food. For these reasons it makes it a perfect place to come for a first date (or any occasion really), because it has a way of making you feel right at home. Plus if you haven't past the awkward silences after your first drink, you won't even care to speak after taking one bite of their steak.

Prices for meals and drinks are reasonable and the waitstaff is very friendly. I hands down recommend coming to Arthurs!

I used to go to the Morris Plains location every year on my birthday, but now that I live in town this is the obvious choice.

Love the casual attitude of the whole place from the extremely simple (but delicous) food and drink menus to the plaid table cloths.  Any of the 3 rooms you sit in has a cool feeling, and if you can eat outside on Washington St. even better.

Great place to go with a low maintenance crew who cares about getting a great meal when they go out!

Very reasonably priced for how good the grub is!

4.5 stars...Great spot along the beautiful Washington St in Hoboken. The prices are cheap and the portions are large here at Arthurs. The space is also huge and great for large parties. The service is also warm and friendly. The steak is a great deal and cooked to perfection. The garlic bread is also a great treat here. I wasn't a fan of the home fried potatos that came with the steak but others swear by them. The beer is cheap and the 1 liter mugs are another awesome buy.

If you are looking for great steak & potatoes without breaking the bank, come to Arthurs. It's not Wolfgang's or Luger's but so what? Their steaks are thick and juicy and the potatoes are crispy & oily. The complimentary pickles and peppers will jump start your appetite. Don't forget their garlic bread. So you'll be able to make an awesome steak sandwich the next day because you WILL have leftovers.

Warning - Hard to find parking.

This place holds a secret and the secret is a ginormous back area with full bar and tons of seating. Wow!

We decided to hit up Arthur's Tavern for St. Patrick's Day (Hoboken style) this year and it worked out perfect. Our group was well over 20 people so finding a place that didn't charge 20$ to get in AND give us room to sit and hang out was definitely a plus.

Arthur's had a 5 minutes wait to get in and we immediately had a waitress bringing us pitcher after pitcher, shot after shot, snack after snack. Throw in a great atmosphere, speedy bartenders and friendly wait staff dealing with the St. Pattys day drunk crew and you have a winner.

I was so surprised at how big the back room was as it doesn't look like much space from the street. Perfect for a big events as there are TV screens all over I'd be interested to see how else this place is used.

Very casual steak house.
It's like a big pub, or Sports  Bar., but I come here for steak.

Their tables are sometimes greasy and sticky, and so-so sides..... yet and still, I have crossed the river from New York to come to the Arthur's, and I will again;  its the best value steak around, in my opinion.

Perfect for casual dining with a group of friends.

Good food, great prices, decent beer selection. Very casual steakhouse is probably the best description for it.

Great for a big or small meeting of friends, with tons of space inside. Will definitely be back.

One thing you need to understand first is that Hoboken doesn't have a lot of great eateries. Once you've accepted this, you can then wonder the different restaurants it has. Arthur's Tavern is a good thesis.

Well located in midtown, Arthur's Tavern is a "gem". Serving good steaks and quick service, you'll definitely leave a happy customer. The steak portions are very healthy and competently cooked and the atmosphere is quaint and local. The best part, it's well priced. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good unhealthy meal.

If you're cool enough not to care about being in a fancy looking restaurant and you're craving for good steak but has less than 50 bucks in your wallet, this is the place for you. Dont complain about the interiors of this place as long as you're happy with the 23 dollar 24 ounces steak.
