For someone who rarely eats breakfast during the week, I really like breakfast places. This place does not have a very large breakfast menu but the usual suspects are here, including some fancy additions (omelet with white truffle oil, anyone?). I had the corned beef hash which was homemade. A little too dry for my taste but the overeasy eggs were done to perfection. My husband had the eggs benedict and he said it was very good.
Prices are a bit steeper than other places in the surrounding towns so if you are looking for a cheap eat, this may not be your place. As for the waitstaff, we did not have a problem. Warm and fuzzy... no, but efficient... yes. We sat at the "bar" and there was one person who was serving and busing for the entire place! No time for chit chat for sure. -

Ew. Watery eggs.
So, the place is way lacking on the charm front. Touristy and equipped with a mini shrine to Aerosmith. (Yeah. I don't care. I don't like Aerosmith but I guess milking any recognition like that is par for the course in the food business. What do I mean? Apparently they eat there and know the owners and included a thank you in one of Steven Tyler's biographies. I don't know the connection beyond that).
So, the food was okay (although pricey for breakfast) but they lost me on the watery eggs. Not undercooked. Watery. When asked why I didn't eat they eggs I reported the situation. The waitress said, well some people like them more or less cooked you never know.
Runny eggs and watery eggs are not the same.
Anyway. I may go back for lunch to try the seafood but most likely not returning.

I wish there was an option of zero stars!
I cannot believe that I forgot to rate this place due to my horrifying experience there.
About 4 years ago I found a USED BAND AIDE IN MY OMELETTE!!
I was happily eating my tomato, spinach, and cheese omelette when all of a sudden I came upon what I thought at the time was a piece of ham in the middle of the omelette. Luckily I took a closer look and realized it was a used band aide!!! Of course I cried out and shared this realization with the rest of my family. We asked to speak to the owner (Pat) She came over to our table was incredibly rude and then accused us of putting the band aide in there ourselves. She did not apologize or offer another meal. She stated "well, no one in my kitchen was wearing a band aide" to which my sister replied, "Yea because it's in her omeltte!" At this point we made a scene (LOOK EVERYONE WE ARE LEAVING BECAUSE WE FOUND A USED BAND AIDE IN MY OMELETTE!!) collected the band aide in a cup and stormed out.
We called the board of health and they investigated the place...
The owner called us a week later to apologize and give us a free gift certificate. Sorry to say it was too little too late and you couldn't pay us to eat at that place again.
I am still traumatized over this disgusting dining experience to this day... -

The rudest owner on the planet....we waited 40 minutes for our food, just to see the table of 6 that was seated after us get their food first. When we asked about our food, they said it wasn't even started yet.
So we walked out....and then the owner started screaming at us in the middle of the restaurant! It was the most humiliating dining experience of my life. She even took our license plate numbers to call the cops, because she thinks we should have paid for food we never got!
The kicker??? The police called and told us this type of thing happens all the time!!! I am shocked this place is still in business as I can see that the owner has not changed one bit! -

Marshfield, MA
I live in town and have been here several times. I have to say it is WAY overpriced for the quality (you can literally pay over $6 for a side of hash browns if you want onions and cheese sauce!). Omelettes are nothing special and cost over $10. Pancakes and French toast same thing - nothing special and way too expensive.
Last time I was there (and it will likely be the last time) the hashbrowns were burnt (and I don't mean a little overdone, I mean carbonized), the coffee was just above awful, almost undrinkable. We were rushed in and out and our bill, with tip, was over $90 for 4 people, and 3 of us were disappointed with our food.
I will say I had a clam roll there once that was very good, but for 20 bucks it had better be!
Some people like the brusque attitude and semi-rude service you get from Dee, one of the owners and head honcho of the wait staff. I am not one of those people. And the Ode to Aerosmith that permeates the place seems a bit adolescent. I've see Joey Kramer in there a couple times - no big deal. Just know that he will get his food before yours, even if you've been waiting for awhile.
If you want a good quality breakfast without the attitude and cost, go to The Mug. If you do decide to go to A&P's, I would highly recommend going at an odd time. Go in the summer or on Saturday or Sunday morning and you're just asking for disappointment. Unless you enjoy waiting forever for overpriced food, then being rushed in and out. -

hadn't been in a few years til this wkend, still love it, definitely a staple in marshfield. it was crowded by 9:15 but we got seats. It is pricey for breakfast -- but the food is solid. i like the casual atmosphere, service was quick/friendly. I wish they'd put the menu on an actual menu rather than scattered around the walls & ceiling, but i guess that's their schtick. i also prefer my eggs benny with hollandaise instead of their special cheese sauce, but they were good. yup -- i'll be back!

Everytime anyone (tourists, local media, residents) mentions restaurants in Marshfield, Arthur and Pat's inevitably is mentioned. With this kitschy decor, silly menu, and quaint location, it's easy to see why this place is so endearing.
However my many experiences at A & P's have been mediocre at best. I find the service to be sub par all the time. I've probably been there about 20 times since age 10, and have been consistently underwhelmed. When I get charged $13 for pancakes and eggs I expect to be blown away.
Don't get me wrong, the food tends to range from average to good. Yet the quality of the service and the entrees do not warrant the high price tag.
If you're looking for a relaxing place to grab a hearty (and cheap) breakfast, bypass Arthur and Pat's and try Brant Rock Breakfast or the Mug in Marshfield Center. Neither of these locations have much to offer in the way of atmosphere, but they certainly deliver with great food and excellent prices. -
Review from Beth M.
Though pricey, the breakfast at Arthur & Pat's is seriously amazing. We went on a cool misty morning, when Brant Rock was still sleepy...until you got near A&P's and noticed allllll the cars...and then alllll the people waiting outside restaurant...which definitely looks like nothing special.
We were a group of six so we actually only waited about 10 minutes to be seated. We were then reseated when a group of 9 rolled up, but the waitresses were super-apologetic and we didn't mind. The dining room is tight but we ended up at a cozy little corner table by a window.
Though the breakfast is amazing, there is no formal menu that is handed to you...all the choices are on goofy hand drawn posters hung all around the dining rooms. It's charming for sure, and less confusing than you might think.
The six of us were so pleased with our food! I got the eggs florentine which was really great-- the hollandaise was perfect. You can choose to add grilled onions to your home fries-- do it. So good. We also loved the french toast, pancakes, and veggie omelettes. Good coffee too, with prompt refills. My parents have been here for lunch too and love the sandwiches. Highly recommended! I'll definitely be back...
ps. ca$h only but they have an ATM...Listed in: My Life on the South Shore.

i find the food to be mediocre. Sloppy, Bland.
The hostile attitude in the restaurant is above and beyond necessary.
I think every time i go there which is 5 times total its suggested by a bitter friend who relates to the glaring, no bs, ask for it, but i will ignore you-owner server.
I would rather she say give me your cash and get out. (they accept cash only, of course.)
Usually i am ready to bolt just after i order, purely out of fear, regret and sorrow for denying my intuition.
How can you enjoy food in that element? Not to mention its old and crusty, like a barnacle on the side of a boat. -

My mother in law lives down the street and we've only been here five times. This place is the best breakfast eatery on the South Shore and deserves to be on some Food Network special only then I would have to wait in an even longer line.
The waitstaff here is so friendly and the menus are on the wall. The food is fresh and fast.
IF you're looking for places to go for breakfast in Ocean Bluff... get of your bottom and go to this place now and plan on waiting a couple of minutes for your table because it's popular in the summer. -
Review from Vivian C.
After a mid-morning adventure in the air with Metropolitan Helicopter, we decided to visit Arthur & Pat's for brunch at the pilot's suggestion. Later, we spotted him there too, so I guess he takes his own advice!
Head on in and one of the waitresses will tell you to just take your pick of the seats. Check out the menu item posters decorating the walls and the various other cool signs and etc.
Breakfast or Lunch? They'll bring you the menu that you express interest in, and tell you the specials of the day (omitting the costs). Cannoli Belgian Waffle sounded really good to me, but we decided on ordering cups fo the Chef's Signature Lobster Bisque $5.95 and splitting an order of The Joey K. ("The Oh My God" Smoked Salmon Spectacular dropped eggs on a potato pancake smoked salmon garnished with red onion and capers served with mixed greens and multigrain toast $14.95 plus a few extras - Lump Crab Meat and a side of Fresh Mozzarella and Tomato) $17.95 between the two of us.
The cute tulip cups were filled nearly to the brim with the creamy tasty bisque and a good amount of lobster bits. Oyster crackers were served along side, but I also enjoyed dipping the heavily buttered toast that came in the Joey K into my soup. Dropped eggs turned out to be poached egg, but the salmon/potato pancake combo somehow seemed a touch too salty.
Afterwards, I decided that I still had some room left for The Incredible Banana Cream Pie $5.95 which was a 6th of a pie, stuffed with banana slices beneath the custard and the whipped cream. Also, I pleasantly discovered that the crust itself was no where near soggy.
When you visit the bathroom, you'll discover a whole other dining room hiding out to the side of the restaurant. Cool! You'll also pass by a chalkboard listing the day's specials. Desserts are listed on another chalkboard by the restaurant entrance.
When the waitresses realized it was a customer's child's birthday, they brought the kid a little gift bag, and a small handful of candy for the other child at the same table, so the birthday kid wouldn't have to share!
Helpful things to know when dining out at Arthur & Pat's -
.Open Seasonally, April - October
.Cash Only
.Parking - in addition to the street parking, they have a lot
.I recommend the lobster bisque
.If you walk towards and past the tall concrete tower, there's a metal staircase to the beach -

The place looks like a red shack from the outside, and the furnishings are anything but fancy, but the food is terrific!
We were there for breakfast/lunch on Saturday about 1 p.m. The walls are decked out with cartoon illustrations of house specialties and special offerings.
Richard's 2 eggs over easy were done perfectly for $5.95 including hash browns and toast. I had a cup of the lobster and sweet corn chowder that was magnificent for $6.95. The garden salad had baby greens, zucchini strips, cabbage and carrot shreds, sliced mushrooms, steamed broccoli, halved grape tomatoes, cheddar shreds, cucumber slices, topped with perfectly grilled chicken breast. The dressing was a homemade vinaigrette. - $11.95
I would definitely go back for the excellent food in a beach-front atmosphere. -

I just dont see it...
I was expecting the greatest breakfast ever based on the reviews here, The Phantom and Best of Boston (which they pay for by the way), but it was amazingly expensive and average. That said it gets a 3rd star because my lady got the homemade bread pudding french toast which was good.
The service is a slow and we're just jammed into a back table that really shouldnt have been there. If there's ever a bad fire in the place on a Sunday morning...yikes. The prices are enough to keep me from going back despite the alleged genius of a breakfast cook... -

Terrible rude owners who will tell you to leave if you dare ask a question after waiting 20 minutes.
Food is awful and overpriced. I wouldn't go if it was free!
Dee is disgusting and should be ashamed at how she treats her guests. -

Arthur and Pat's is HEAVEN ON EARTH. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Arthur, the chef, is a genius with a practically scary capacity for dreaming up the most delicious dishes you have ever tasted.
But I digress. Let me start with the chef's signature lobster soup. I could bathe in this stuff. I would have it running through my veins if I could. It is pure, creamy, luscious essence of lobster. I have eaten a lot of lobster bisque. This soup makes Legal Seafoods taste like Campbells from a can. Every summer when we go back (we make the 45 minute drive as often as possible), I never think it can be as good as I remember and every time it blows my mind that anything can taste so spectacular. Just try it and thank me later.
If I can get my mind off the lobster soup, I'll remember how good everything else is at Arthur and Pats. The prices are not at all unreasonable for such well-conceived and carefully prepared food. It isn't fussy at all, just fresh and delicious. I am a fan of all the seafood, which is always fresh and perfectly cooked. The Crazy Caesar Salad with roasted asparagus and garlicky shrimp is especially incredible. My husband, a buffalo wing afficianado, puts Arthur and Pat's boneless wings in his top 5 and we can never leave without at least sharing their lovely Creme Brulee, served with whipped cream and fresh strawberries.
And as far as the service goes, we walked in as complete strangers and from our first visit Dee, an owner and one of the most expert waitresses I've ever seen, made us feel like family and even though we've moved away, when we come back she always remembers us and makes us feel at home. We once came in with a large family group and she made her way around the table, engaging everyone from my teenage cousin to my 82-year old grandmother with a bit of personal attention. She's always quick with a joke and a smile and has an incredible warm energy. She takes no sass and why should she? She's got the key to that lobster soup. I'll do whatever she says. -

This place is very overpriced. The food is decent. It's standard breakfast fare. I've been here a couple times and found the staff inattentive.
Go next door to Brant Rock Breakfast. The staff is superb, and the food is just as delicious for half the price.

This is a seasonal restaurant open for both breakfast and lunch; so when my boyfriend knew that it was finally open for the summer, he was very excited to take me here. I've heard him rave about how great their food is and how fantastic the owners are. We had breakfast here a couple of weeks ago, and I was amazed at how incredible their breakfast is. He told me that Arthur & Pat's is always busy, and sure enough, the place was packed. However, we were still seated immediately (hooray for good timing). The restaurant is about the size of an old diner, with the kitchen taking up a side of the place and the tables spread methodically around the area. Even though the open kitchen has a huge menu written above it, there are also posters of menu items on all the walls. They are artsy and aesthetically pleasing to diners. Their extensive menu includes traditional breakfast choices as well as more intricate creations for both breakfast and lunch.
Our waitress was efficient, and she immediately asked us if we would like coffee or cappacinos once we were seated. For breakfast, I ordered pancakes made and topped with blueberries, bananas and pecans. My pancakes were good-- I loved the pecans both for their taste and crunch. However, the batter was not as light and fluffy as I like my pancakes, but the taste was still good. My dining partner ordered from the Specials menu-- the Salmon Spectacular. His dish was soo delicious...It included smoked salmon topped with two perfectly poached eggs. This was paired with leafy greens and homemade, toasted rye bread. I was so jealous! We both loved his choice (yes, "we," because I stole a bunch of bites from his).
We were both satisfied with our meals, and we will definitely be back. He wants to try more things from their unique menu, but I am still thinking about that Salmon Spectacular. We have heard that their steak and omelettes are also delicious. Although this place offers a pricier breakfast than most (around $9 for my pancakes and &15 for his salmon), I think the quality of the food is worth it. Parking was also really easy because of the combination of street and lot parking.
Be forewarned that this place is CASH ONLY. There is an ATM next to the restaurant, but it's always nice to know ahead of time so that you can avoid those blasted ATM fees.
P.S. A fun element of Arthur & Pat's is what they offer for birthdays. I'm not sure if the birthday party involved close friends of the owners, but the birthday party of four adults were seated at a table set with a special tablecloth, lovely birthday plates, and an extravagant cone hat. Very cute. -

Brought my brother and a friend after reading some reviews online and thought it would be a nice place. $13 for an omelet? Almost ten bucks for the regular two eggs, home fries, meat and toast. Don't get me wrong, I love the "cage-free" eggs and "organic" home fries and "free range" toast (jk), but it was nothing special and my invitees were a bit miffed, sorry... It's just breakfast, no one should be paying $13 for an omelet. Hoping this review and others will help lower their prices because it was pretty good and right by the beach but seriously. Go to the The Mug up in the Marshall's plaza instead.

Marshfield, MA
I have only visited Arthur & Pat's for breakfast in all my years living in Marshfield. The other day I tried their lunch menu for the first time. Shame on me! This iconic restaurant is worth the occasional visit. It remains as one of the few "local joints" and it maintains a certain character and unique quality. It's getting more difficult to find local flavor with so many chain restaurants dotting the landscape. The breakfast can get up there in price but they are hearty breakfasts. It's not a pretentious place and everyone gets treated the same... from local fishermen to rock stars... the service is the same and also unique... It can be brash and funky and fun... The seating is tight and you feel like you are dining among family and friends. So, this place can be a great change from the usual "cookie-cutter" restaurants.
Our lunch was terrific and I wish I had thought to come here for lunch sooner. The menu is expansive. I had the Cuban sandwich plate and my dining companion had the BLT Scrod sandwich plate. Both plates were hearty and delicious (we traded sandwich halves). .The prices were not bad either... I would say that maybe the lunch menu is more value priced than the breakfast menu. But, I won't complain about the price. It's always a treat to visit this place. A BIG plus for Arthur & Pat's... you can get breakfast here all day. I wish they were open in the evening but you can "book" this place for special occasions. The owners are always very accommodating.
One more thing. Arthur & Pat's is seasonal and they have been known to have closing Pajama Parties... People are encouraged to "come as they are" for breakfast. Now, that's casual attire! -

This place is seasonal. I think they're open May through October.
I like Arthur & Pat's because it's the only place where I can get unique dishes like an omelet made with Maytag blue cheese, or chicken marsala risotto, or buffalo shrimp, or steel-cut oatmeal. -

I love my annual breakfast at Arthur & Pat's. The food is very creative, delicious, if a little overpriced. You do get a lot of food for your money, although I wish a cup of coffee or juice were included in the price of breakfast. For two visits, I've had the "Oh My God" salmon/poached eggs dish and it's never failed. My one criticism is that there's too much dressing on the greens that come with it. No biggie. Eat some with the eggs, salmon, capers and multi-grain bread and it all comes together. It's just enough food for a big brunch. I also ordered an Eggs Benedict Florentine one time and it was great, too. This year I also broke down and got a chocolate frappe to go (I have a friend who sometimes gets one for breakfast) and it was amazing, even after I brought it home and put it in the freezer until I drank it the next day. Someday, I'll go back and have something like pancakes or banana French toast. BTW, Dee, one of the owners, has been our waitress two times. She is wonderful, funny and sarcastic in a good way.
And finally, last year, we had a Joey Kramer sighting and the management discreetly told him that one of my friends was a huge fan. He came over and gave her a hug. He and the owners were a class act all the way. Note: if you do see a member of Aerosmith in there, be cool. I suspect Dee will throw you right out if you overreact. -

OK , Here's the story: this is a 5 star fine dining restaurant that makes pretend it's a dive. If you have that concept in your head when you walk in the door you'll "get it". Plenty of people go there and never quite get that. After travelling all over the world to dozens and dozens of foreign countries I can safely say that this is some of the best breakfast and lunch dining you'll ever experience on the planet. Yes it's expensive, but undoubtedly worth every cent. They make an honest effort to assure that everything you eat is made from the best ingredients.
This is where chefs go to eat.................let that sink in. Now you get it.
Here's a few things: Light potato pancakes topped off with a thin layer of sour cream and dill, topped with smoked Scottish salmon, poached eggs and thin slivers of red onion and capers sered with a tossed greens in a light house vinegrette with homemade multigrain toast. It's an etherial experience. How about taking the homemade banana bread and making French toast out of it? It's amazing. The lobster soup made here is so good it's would make the "Soup Nazi" in Manhattan cry. Artie D'Allessandro who is the chef and owner is nothing short of incredible. He spends the half of each year that this place is closed picking up new ideas to put on his menu. Is there a chef alive and working today who wouldn't love to be able to that? His sister "Dee" runs the dining room and waits tables herself and she is a character to be appreciated. She's all brass and sass and cracks everyone up and makes you feel like you're eating at your crazy Italian in-laws house for breakfast or lunch. She's loud and lively and you definately want to be friends with her because you'll get treated like a rock star. BTW the guys eating at the next table could be Steve Tyler or Joe Perry from Arrowsmith. They're locals.
If the "Best of Boston" from the Phantom gourmet signs for the past 5 years in a row on the entrance doors don't catch your eye hopefully some of the crazy menu signs all over the place will. Please DO NOT MISS THE DAILY SPECIALS written on the sign above the lunch counter. They are often the best things being offered that day. They are usually designed around whatever is the best available produce, or something exotic like black truffles shaved over your scrambled eggs. My one and only ding is that they serve Aunt Jamima pancake syrup instead of real maple syrup. A place like this should serve the real thing, not corn syrup with artificial maple flavor, right? If you're serving $40 a plate eggs with truffles, why scrimp on the pancake syrup? Charge extra for the pancakes to offset the cost, I'll pay it gladly, or put it on the menu as a side item.
This place is cash only and I see the tourists scrambling down the street to the ATM while hostages are held at the table, so bring cash, lots of it. Figure on spending about $20 per person on average, plus tip for breakfast. If they are serving lobster rolls for lunch when you're there, try it, I've never had one quite as good as the ones they make at A&P. The bad news is that they are only open from Mid April till the last Sunday in October, and the closing for the winter is a sad day for locals. -

Worth the hype! Arthur & Pat's is a hole in the wall place packed with tasty stuff. It is kitchy, yes - small, yes - only cash, yes.. but it's well worth the drive to Brant Rock for a tasty breakfast treat or for lunch! They specialize in low-fat and vegetarian meals and they rock out at it! Cool place to pop over for a bite on the way to the Cape! Just watch out because they are only open till 3pm!

I have been here MANY times and try to get something new every time because there is so much to choose from. I have never disliked anything I got or even had a friend who didn't rave about it after their first time there. It is expensive but well worth it for a guaranteed delicious breakfast, great service and even a chance to see a local celeb like Steven Tyler or Joe Perry. They are closed November to May and one of my friends actually loves A and P's so much he takes their first and last days of business off of work just so he can be there. I'm not that extreme, but if I am willing to drive almost 40 minutes for breakfast it must be damn good!

I'm a local, always at Marshfield beach for the sunny days. Went to Arthur and Pats for the first time to try a different place besides The Mug. This place is terrible, first I was sat at this table shoved in the corned behind another tables seating. The meal I got, an omlette and hash browns was $12. It was the same omlette I get from The Mug for $7. No difference.
The service was terrible. We sat and waited for our food for half an hour after the pushy wait staff tried to rush us along to pick our meal. Then when we had finished our waitress took forever to come over to tell me they didn't accept credit cards and to use their ATM. So after I got money from the ATM we waited another 20 minutes for the waitress to take the money and give us change. When she came over finally she said that we were wasting precious beach time. I was well aware of this fact and more angered at the fact that she was the very reason our beach time was wasted.
Bottom line way over priced. The original Arthur and Pat would be upset with the bloated prices and bad service. -

there were so many options, my dining companions and i weren't sure where to start. we ended up ordering the caprese omelet, jumbo lump crab meat eggs benedict, and the filet mignon benedict. both benedicts had a HUGE amount of meat on them, so that alone was enough to warrant a few stars. while they weren't the best benedicts i've ever had, they were still pretty delicious (as was the caprese), so i think this place is well worth it if you're in the area.

Seriously, the food is ordinary. It is nicely presented, plentiful, and overpriced. The service is beyond hostile. The atmostphere is overcrowded, noisy, and chaotic. Yes, the banana bread and muffins are homemade and good. The eggs are cooked appropriately, the home fries are, as I said, ordinary. They charge extra for onions and for cheese sauce. In fact, there are a lot of extras: Do I want strawberries (frozen) in my orange juice? Um, No thanks. Yes, the hersey syrup looks cool stuck to the sides of the glass in the chocolate milk, but I can do that at home and save myself a small fortune. Save your money.
