Santa Monica, CA
I am really surprised by the negative reviews - I have been going to Dr. K for over 15 years - I found them when I first moved to LA from 1800-DENTIST - when my TMJ acted up. They were great then and still are to this day.
They use state-of-the-art equipment. I strayed a few times to save some money but always go back - I even make the drive from Santa Monica! I have had everything from cavities replaced to a crown for a broken tooth. They are fast and efficient and do quality work.
Ok - for the guy who says he's like a car salesman - yeah - but i have to say ALL dentists are like that at this point - especially in LA. Yeah they ask you if you want to get your teeth-whitened, fillings replaced etc....but I have no problem declining.
And they always work with me and my budget - allowing me to split payments if need be.
I have referred a dozen or more people here and will continue to do so. -

I was really saddened to read some of the negative reviews about Dr. Kezian and his office. I've been going to him for the past three years and have had nothing but a very positive experience -- and I'm terrified of dentists in general, having had bad ones all my life. Dr. Kezian has done extensive work on my teeth, pulling out old fillings and replacing them with porcelain, drilling numerous cavities and even saving a wisdom tooth -- all with relative ease. He works quickly and rather pain free. And he always checks on his patients to make sure they're ok during the procedure. He recently pulled my husband's wisdom tooth and I still can't believe how quickly we were in and out of the office -- in less than 20 minutes everything was taken care of with minimal discomfort.
His staff is really top-notch too. Everyone is very courteous and attentive to your needs. Knowing how scared I am of the dentist, they take extra care to make me comfortable and feel secure. They let you know the cost of everything up-front and they will work with you if you're on a budget and help you prioritize care. I've never found them to push any procedures either. In fact, they've been watching a couple of potential cavities on me for a while now because they want to avoid drilling until it's necessary.
I'd recommend Dr. Kezian to anyone looking for a top-notch dentist with a very professional staff. -

I had a horrible experience at this dentist. I came in to have chipped bonding fixed on a front tooth. They fixed it but less than 2 weeks later it had chipped! I had my previous bonding done by a dentist in the state I used to live in and it lasted 7 years! They tried to tell me bonding doesn't last and I told them 2 wks is ridiculous and that it shouldn't chip that fast. They fixed it again and it has never been the same ever since. I still have bonding from my old, out of state dentist on the matching front tooth that is great. But the second repair bonding Dr. Kezian's office did feels horrible. It's very thick and somewhat uncomfortable. I felt like they did a rush job to hustle me in and out. They are also very expensive, and tried to push veneers on me. Horrible office. made me scared to go to the dentist.

DO NOT GO HERE!!!
I needed a root canal and called ahead to several times to make sure this office was a preferred provider for my insurance. The office manager said yes, they were a preferred provider each time, and that the root canal would take 3-4 visits. The first visit, the office manager made me pay a significant deposit before beginning the procedure even though I had insurance from a major very reputable carrier that covered the procedure!
I thought this was a little weird as I had never been asked to do this before in a doctor's office, but I needed a root canal, so I did so. The procedure itself was very painful; I was fully awake and not given any other option other than local anasthesia. The local anaesthesia was not done correctly; the PAIN FROM THE DRILL WAS EXCRUCIATING! I TOLD the staff and DR. KEZIAN, but they said I shouldn't be feeling any pain, SO IGNORE IT! I tried to, until I ended up throwing up halfway through the procedure from the pain and discomfort. The temporary crown was not put on correctly and I was in a trememdous amount of pain until the second part of the procedure four days later.
I should have been suspicious then by then--when I went to bathroom at Dr. Kezian's office there were "sterile" intstruments about to be used/that had been used in mouths dirty in the sink, rust, dirt, and other contaminents on around everything that was supposed to be sterile. The autoclave (used to sterilize instruments) had dirt and crap all over it.
I should not have gone back but the root canal takes three visits. I went back for visit two and the office manager told me she had lied before. They actually WEREN'T PREFERRED PROVIDERS and quoted a much higher rate for the procedure. This seemed a very suspicious business practice, as I had a hole in my mouth and was in severe pain and kind of at their mercy at that point. Then, the office manager insisted that I pay up front becuase I "didn't look like a person with good credit" even though I have major insurance; their office would remimburse me when they felt like it. She made a point of talking to me like I was in third grade even though I have two college degrees. There was definitely a sense of discrimination in her stereotyoing and belitting words and behavior. The office manager was rude, condescending, hostile and racist in comments, manner, and attitude. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH AWFUL TREATMENT IN MY LIFE!
Medical treatment was not given until Dr Kezian, fearing a discrimination lawsuit, himself interrupted to complete the procedure. When I went back to confront the office manager on her behavior on my way out, she argued that her insistence that I pay up front and her treatment of me had nothing to do with race....refusing to admit that she had refused to start treatment the first visit until I had paid a deposit, AND that she had spent the past 30 minutes arguing that Dr Kezian would not complete the root root canal until I did so... Aferwards, I was again in severe pain and sent home without any aftercare instructions or pain medication.
When I called to confront the office manager, she lied to my face and said it was office policy to give people the canal until I paid in full. After I called my insurance company to inform them of the situation--which they had never heard the likes of before--they sent me to a reputable dentist. The first thing this new dentist told me was that Dr. Kezian should not even have attempted this root canal but should have sent me immediately to a specialist. It turns out I was in pain because the root canal had not been completed correctly--the temporary crown had not been put on correctly; Dr. Kezian had not even taken the time to file the temporary crown to shape it so that my bite would not be off! I then had to make an appointment with a specialist. Several thousand dollars later, I am still trying to repair the work of Dr. Kezian's botched root canal...and I still have throbbing constant pain on the right side of my mouth/face.
Basically, I have to see two doctors to repair the work of this doctor. But the emotional pain and humiliation from seeking medical care from such people will take a longer time to heal. -

As I had neglected to go to the dentist for several years and wound up with teeth that would make even an english person squirm, I knew I needed to go soon. This need was made all the more urgent when I began experiencing severe pain from a broken back tooth.
Where to turn? Yelp, of course. And when I went looking for a dentist here, one name towered above all with scads of glowing reviews. Why, one would think that while in the dentist's chair at Dr Kezian's, Salma Hayek herself gives you a foot massagle while scantily clad babes fan you with palm fronds, so good were the reviews at the time. Being a sucker, I thought, why not?
Sure, Dr. Kezian fixed me up with a crown and a root canal, there were some other teeth that needed work, nothing major. All in all, I made several visits to this office to complete all of the work. As time went by, I became suspicious of the many superlative filled reviews. I now believe that, at best, they were solicited from the patients, cherry picked, and then placed on this site. At worst, they were simply fabrications.
Dr. K himself is okay. He's competent, if a little rough, in my opinion. His wife, Dr. Tashjian (I think) is a bit better.
Unlike other reviewers here, no one tried to upsell me on anything. So I can't comment on that. And the insurance person there at the time, Nara, I think it was, did a great job.
One thing I will complain about, though, is the incredibly rude receptionist. Here I am, spending thousands of dollars with these people, and when I call to reschedule an appointment well in advance, she practically chews me out over the phone. "Ahhhh, again??? This is the second time!!!" I can't imagine any other business that would do such a thing. Hi, you're a f***ing receptionist making ten dollars an hour, eat me.
Secondly, it feels a bit weird that EVERYONE who works there is Armenian. Like maybe I shouldn't be there. Now, I don't have a problem with the guy trying to help out his countrymen, but it was a bit much.
The bottom line is, there's nothing wrong with this place, and I can see that Yelp has implemented a new filter that has considerably reduced the number of hyperbole filled reviews here, so I don't know. But I will likely find a closer dentist when the need next arises. -

Ok, I guess I'm the dissenting voice here. Here's my experience.
Dr. Kezian asked me to raise my hand if I felt pain as I was getting a tooth drilled. So, when I felt a significant amount of pain, I raised my hand... and he kept drilling.
Then I WAVED my hand... and he kept drilling.
I was getting teary-eyed and about to use another gesture when he finally did stop, and "explained" himself by saying the level of pain was "as much as I was going to feel."
!?!?!?!?!
While the office is very high-tech, Dr. Kezian juggles at least three patients at a time, walks in/out of the exam room frequently, and is generally not very gentle. And since he juggles multiple patients, my guess is that the pain I felt was because the anesthetic had worn off while he was attending to another patient and I was waiting for him to come back. I was also pressured to pay for my procedures weeks before they were even performed, which seemed awfully iffy.
So, I'm happy with the work I had done, but I won't be going back.
--------
Update: After I left a review on another site, Dr. Kezian called me to see if I was the person who left the review. While this could be seen a couple ways, I was put off by it.
Dr. Kezian, if you read this (you probably will) there's no need to call. Really.
7/29: Ok, so he *emailed* this time, saying sorry IF he hurt me. IF??? I WAS WAVING MY HAND! IT WAS HURTING! Jesus!!!Listed in: Vitriol

I make a living with my teeth, my regular dentist retired so I thought let me go in the neighborhood. BIG MISTAKE!!!! He told me I needed $10,000.00 worth of work. I have Dental Insurance and they would have paid $5000.00. I went to the dentist that took over my retired dentist's practice back in the valley.
I was told that all I needed was a filling replaced which happened to be 25 years old. The dentist told me that there was nothing wrong with my teeth and that I was just getting gouged.

These guys do a truly fabulous job! They treat you like you're their only customer and show respect by clearly breaking down any procedure they're about to do by how much your insurance will pay and how much you'll have to pay. I've never been to a dentist who does such a good job of explaining what they're about to do and how they're going to do it.
They also use state of the art technology to speed up the process and keep everything in order. It definitely shows. The day after I had a procedure, they called to check on me and make sure I wasn't in pain. It makes you feel like they really care about their work.
Not to mention when I was in for a deep cleaning procedure, Dr. Kezian went the extra mile and whitened my two front teeth which have yellowed over the yearq. He didn't need to do this but when I saw the finished result I'm so happy he did (too much coffee kids.) I would highly recommend trying this dentist. I think you will be pleased by their professionalism and service. -

I have had quite a bit of work done at Dr. Kezian's office. The #1 thing I would recommend people have done here is crowns. I'd never had a crown before and went in to get one with horror stories in my mind. Usually they grind your teeth down and then put a cap on top of it and it takes like 3 visits. Blah.
HOWEVER, at Dr. Kezian's, they do it in one visit, and they use this super high tech 3D program. Basically they only get rid of the part of your tooth that needs to go, and then they custom design (on the spot) a piece of crown that goes in like a puzzle piece! It's pretty cool. You're in and out in about 3 hours, and there aren't any other visits, which from what I've heard, is awesome for a crown. Typically they're a BIG annoying thing to deal with.
They also do payment plans here, which is great.
The only downside to this office is that they don't offer nitrous oxide for dental work, so for fillings I have to go to someone else because I hate hate hate the drill.
I would recommend as long as you're good without nitrous. I would DEF recommend for crown work. -

So much to say, here. Okay, my lady friend indicated she loooooved her dentist. Since I've only lived in L.A. for a short period of time, I decided to trust her and make an appointment with Dr. Kezian for a check-up. They told me I needed a filling replaced, so I scheduled my appointment.
I'm not going to bore you with a lot of detail. What I will say is that my woman's last dentist must have been educated at a prison in North Korea. YIKES. The hygienist was sticking the suction tube down my throat so hard, I think the back of my throat may be bruised. Dr. Kezian's partner, Dr. Tashjian, did my fillings. She performed the procedure so hastily, my mouth not only hurts, but she scraped my lips and the inside of my cheeks more than a few times. I'm sure glad I was numb. Of course, Dr. Tashjian did want to start on the fillings before the topical numbing agent even took its effect. Let me clarify, SHE WANTED TO STICK ME WITH A HUGE NEEDLE BEFORE I WAS NUMB, PEOPLE. I had to tell her to wait, because I could still feel everything in my mouth. WHAT THE F???
Let's fast forward to after the procedure. A remark was made during my filling replacement that some veneers may be needed. Really?... Really?... Really?... My teeth are nearly perfect. They pointed out to some EXTREMELY MINOR IMPERFECTIONS, that my previous dentists didn't even worry about. This was a bit disconcerting, but not nearly as disconcerting at their attempts to sell this "service" to me, while I was checking out. $1500/tooth, completely out of pocket. NO. No, thank you. Not only is that absurd in that 1) this is not covered by insurance and 2) it is completely unnecessary, this would mean that I would have to go back there. Why would I want to put myself through this ever again?
Long story short, I will not be going back to Dr. Kezian's office. I understand they specialize in cosmetic dentistry, but I need a dentist who specializes in dentistry. I'm sure this is a great place for someone who needs a new smile, but I like mine just fine.Listed in: Don't Say I Didn't Warn You

4 stars because I rarely, if ever feel much pain....yes, big fan of NO PAIN. I've had several root canals from him.
Dr. Kezian's work is precise, thorough and immaculate. Seriously, I swear he would prefer to sculpt each one of my teeth to perfection like Michaelangelo and the Pieta.
And that's also part of the problem....he IS expensive, very high tech and he (or his staff) will try to sell you a laundry list of every minor detail that needs to be done in order to have a perfect mouth.
I do not feel that his wife has the same gentleness or friendly demeanor as Dr. Kezian so when I am offered to have her at a better appointment time I always decline.
They will work with you on a payment schedule with or without insurance and his staff is pretty friendly.
When I want quality work with relatively no pain, he's the only one I trust. -

As I sit here drooling on myself, I can't help but smile.
Well, at least I think I'm smiling.
I just came from the dentist's office. This was my second trip to see Dr. Kezian, whom I should mention I found by doing extensive research on Yelp for months and months (isn't this site amazing??). I take finding a dentist, doctor, acupuncturist very, VERY seriously. So I spent a lot of time scouring the threads and reviews for dentists in the area.
As a child, I was allowed an obscene amount of sugar. Soda, cookies, candy, ice cream, you name it, my parents/grandparents let us eat/drink it. Now, as an adult, I wonder what the hell they were thinking and curse their names before and during every trip to the dentist. I guess I should be relieved that I grew up to be a semi-normal adult, well normal except for the assemblage of cavities turned fillings that have taken up residence in my mouth (sorry if that's TMI). Well, needless to say my first filling came at a very early age, and I have never enjoyed going. I know it's cliche to say 'I HATE the dentist', because let's face it, who enjoys having drills, suction tubes, gauze, and plastic shoved in your mouth. Anyone? Anyone? Yea, that's what I thought. I'm going to be painfully honest and say that I still don't enjoy my trips to the dentist, but if I have to go (and I do) I'm glad that I have found Dr. Kezian.
As I mentioned, I went in today, my second trip to the office. My first was an appointment that I set up after I called and told them I had a toothache that was causing me some pretty major discomfort. They didn't blink an eye on that Friday, set up an appointment for the next day, Saturday (*take note, this was the Saturday before Christmas, a day they surely did not have to open their doors for) and I had the tooth diagnosed, and treated and sent on my merry way. The staff could not be a nicer group of people. Naira and Pamela, their insurance coordinators are smart and breakdown the cost BEFORE you get your work done. I don't know about you, but I appreciate that more than you will know. I can't tell you how many times I have felt "suckered" into procedures that I couldn't afford. I had two of my old cavities replaced and it was relatively pain-free and only took about 30-40 minutes. The dental assistant, Ellie explained the procedure to me and went thru every step with me in detail. Love that! The office is clean and everyone is extremely professional, and most of all warm and friendly. I would recommend Dr. Kezian's office to anyone!Comment from Dr. Arthur K. of Arthur A Kezian, DDS 6/11/2010

Best dentist ever. I tell all my friends to go there. I've referred about 5 people already and the office actually sent me candy for doing so! (Probably so I would need more dental work, but whatever).

I'm a consultant, a health and benefits one that is. So I know a lot about dentists and dental insurance. I'm very selective about the dentists I go to. Here it goes....
I moved to Mid-Wilshire 2 years ago--bought a condo. And I needed a dentist close to me. So I used citysearch to find a dentist, and Arthur Kezian's practice came up with all very stellar reviews. So of course I made an appointment. I only wanted a cleaning and xray, but of course I was upsold on replacing my fillings with white fillings. Mine were already perfectly fine. I paid over $700 after my insurance was billed---so their prices are fairly expensive. Also, they tried to upsell me on getting my crown on my front tooth replaced. Why in the world would I need it replaced? I just got it done 5 years ago and I looked perfectly fine, and trust me, I am very picky about aesthetics. They said they could do a better job, blah blah blah, but of course they didn't tell me about the implications. The implication is that (this is my talking to a dentist friend) they would need to drill out the crown and of course some of my real tooth would be drilled along with it. Keep in mind this is my front tooth. This is something that no one would want to do--there's too much risk involved. I didn't feel like they were concerned with my well-being at all--they were just upselling to make a profit--like most dentists. So I did end up getting my cleaning, which was only 20 minutes! My last dentist was 45 minutes. They didn't scrape at all, or floss, which is what you're supposed to do (according to my dentist friend.) They just used this eletrical cleaner and that was basically it. Not very thorough. Also--I had a filling done where I had one tooth where my gum was receding, from brushing too hard. Well, they did my filling, but it wasn't a very good one. I still had a lot of sensitivity. So I came back months later for a check up with the sensitivity complaint, and Nazrine, the other main dentist, made it worse. She applied a sealant on it, which made it extremely painful. I was aching for the rest of the weekend and I called her about the problem. She said to come in but I had no confidence that she'd make it better. So I went to my dentist friend and he fixed it for me, by redoing the filling which he said wasn't done very well initially here. I will not be going back here ever again. And now that I think about it, I feel like all those citysearch ratings are fake. Also, I referred two other friends here. They had complaints just like me! So I am not crazy! I made the mistake of going to a UCLA dentist when I should have went to a USC dentist! (USC grad here.) -

I scheduled a routine check up with the office. I was expecting a check up and cleaning but I was informed half way through the procedure that the cleaning would not be included in this appointment. Instead, I was handed a booklet of various prescribed procedures. I have fairly straight teeth. The booklet recommended anything from a "deep cleaning" to whitening and various straightening procedures. He later personally strongly suggested that I consider some whitening and straightening. Fine, they were just suggestions. When I declined to take the booklet (I walked to the office. I didn't want to carry it home with me), the secretary kept pressuring me to keep it so I could consider the various aesthetic (read: ELECTIVE) treatments.
Furthermore, I was told I had two cavities. The fillings would cost $200 each. I can't remember why but the woman I spoke with said my insurance would not cover the entire cost of the procedure. I declined to go back for a follow up appointment and instead, went to another dentist in the area at the recommendation of a friend.
This new dentist said that I did not have any cavities. Only, "Minor decalcification which will correct and remineralize with consistent flossing and brushing with a fluoride toothpaste." My teeth could regenerate the area over time but it was too soon to require a filling. In conclusion: Dr. Kezian told me I *needed* an unnecessary procedure. In addition, he and his staff tried to push additional gratuitous elective procedures on me. -

I give Dr. Kezian one star only out of the fact that his staff is friendly as is he. The problem comes from the cost and false information. I was told that I had three surface cavities that they wanted to charge me $290.00 each to fill. I don't know what universe they are living in but that is absurd even for L.A.
I sought a second opinion obviously, and not only did my new dentist Dr. Falcon tell me that I didn't have any cavities just a little decay on a sealant, he fixed me up right then and there. So unless you have insurance to pay for costly and unnecessary work ( which I don't) then I would not recommend him at all! an exam and x-rays $105. cleaning 155.00 surface cavities 290.00 each.....I think not! -
