Review from Nancy H.
I had a really good experience at Art +Science. Margeau washed and cut my hair, and she was so easy to talk to. I don't always like to chit chat while getting my hair done, but the conversation was truly effortless. My hair was in that weird growing out phase from a bob, and my hair was starting to do funny things and making my life difficult. But Margeau was able to cut my hair in a way that makes my hairstyle less fussy and easier to style. I liked that she put her foot down and suggested against something I was considering too. Overall, I had a great experience here from check-in to check-out! Haircuts start at $53 for women.
Art + Science is located in the hippest part of downtown Evanston, and parking is free on Sundays! -

Yay for LeighAnn!!!!!! She did an awesome job cutting my long ass hair today. I wanted to keep the same shape just make it shorter, and she totally got me. She fixed my bangs to near Zooey Deschanel perfection, and she's super funny.
She cut my 6 year old's hair a month or so ago and did a great job with her as well. It's nice to have someone so laid back doing hair at a kind of pompous salon.1 Previous Review: Show all »

So I've going there for a while and instead of deleting my old review and write a new one, I want to "update" my review because that's what cool kids do these days.
This review update is strictly for Frankie. She is da bomb. I mean if I ever tried to praise her service at an airport, I and my 7 generations will get arrested for being this loud.
This girl does almost entire job with her hands and they don't ever, ever shake. I can close my eyes without having a nervous breakdown. Never happened in my entire life.
If you wanna get a hair cut, give this Frankie a shot. If she fails you, send me a PM and I will personally hand you back the money out you paid out of my pocket.
Yes. I'm that confident about this chosen one.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I just phoned this salon and attempted to book a bleach and tone for tomorrow, as well as highlights if time permits in their schedule. The employee on the phone politely informed me that time would not permit highlights. Fine; I expected that. She also let me know that the salon doesn't book new client appointments for bleaching without first booking a consultation. Alright...this is when I become a little aggravated. The fact that I know the term "bleach and tone" should let you know that I'm not raven-haired suddenly trying to go blonde. I also let her know I only want my roots touched up (so it's virgin hair and undamaged), and that I need it done by Wednesday--my work schedule is freaking hectic, and I'm leaving town Thursday. Additionally, she didn't realize this, but I'm annoyed that my regular colorist bleached my roots lighter than the rest of my hair last time--so I could have potentially been a repeating customer, depending on my experience there.
I can respect the integrity of the salon for having this "no blondization without consultation" policy, but at the same time, I don't have time for it. Just book the freaking appointment. If I show up practically bald, feel free to turn me away. Surely you'd be able to replace the lost appointment (profit) with a walk-in, or even call another client in earlier. -

I needed a haircut very badly! My hair was too long and straggly and it was makin' me look a little elderly (I'm 52). Chase was my stylist. He asked me some great questions before he started. We agreed on a length and then he went to work. He did a truly beautiful job. My hair looks great; it's easy to style (I'm a wash and go person) and I have gotten numerous compliments on my new do. VERY happy.

Review from Helen S.
I bought a groupon here about half a year ago, and it was expiring soon, so I decided to use it. I had gotten a haircut about three months back while I was in Los Angeles for spring break, so my hair wasn't particularly unruly or anything. My layers were growing out, so I only asked to get them trimmed and to get my bangs fixed since they were getting long.
I had Leigh Ann, who was a sweetie and put me completely at ease (I'm typically the kind of client who hairdressers dread because I'm pretty awkward and quiet). She did a great job initially with fixing my layers so that my hair would fall better, but then we got to the bangs part. I had originally asked for side swept bangs (my usual) but she said that she thought that I would look great in straight bangs. I was feeling unusually adventurous so I agreed to go through with it.
She said to close my eyes, and when I opened them, my new bangs were just staring back at me. I think that they came out too short, because to me, straight bangs should fall at the eye level, and she cut them across my eyebrows (so that when they were dried, they shrunk to above my eyebrows). She insisted that they were not done yet and even suggested that she cut them even shorter, which I vehemently objected to. I asked her to make them slightly more choppy aka less awkward, and to fix the face framing pieces.
It's not completely her fault, it was partially mine for agreeing to go through with it. I might go back to her in the future because the rest of the haircut was great, the service was good, and I'm sure she cuts great side bangs. I've always wanted to try straight bangs, but after this experience, I have finally realized that they are definitely not suitable for me. I ended up ducking across the street to CVS to buy some headbands to serve as distractions, since there's really nothing you can do about awkward bangs except wait for them to grow out. I'm probably going to be wearing a lot of hoodies and hats this week. -

I will never ever be that girl who cries over a bad haircut, but I can appreciate it when I get a quality cut. I've tried a couple of salons in Evanston, but Art + Science is the best and totally worth the price. After I let a botched haircut from Asha Salon grow out, I called Art + Science to make an appointment. I was given an appointment with Lauren that day, and she is amazing. Seriously, I've never liked a hair stylist so much. She's talkative, but doesn't make me feel weird when I just want to sit there and not make small talk. She listens to what I want but also can make suggestions. Most of all, she does a really, really good job every time. My hair is short, angled, asymmetric and has sharp edges, but Lauren puts in the time to make it look good.
They have a lot of products you can buy here including a lot of bumble and bumble, which they also use for your haircut (depends on the stylist though). Water and tea are complimentary, and sometimes they have other drinks for special occasions. In December, I got to sip on some wine while getting my haircut - awesome.
Getting an appointment here is never too hard, but calling ahead is probably a good idea. -

I got a haircut by Yeefah in the fall. It wasn't a *bad* haircut, per se, but it was probably one of the most boring, uninspired cuts I've ever had. I asked for shape and movement (I have really fine hair) and got neither. I asked for my bangs to be cut so that I could wear them on my face - they weren't (my bad for not noticing this until after I left, but still). Basically, I got a haircut I would have expected from a supercuts type place, not somewhere this expensive.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the ambiance here - very busy and made me feel rushed instead of relaxed. But that's a personal preference. Oh - and the girls at the counter were really pushing the products hard. I don't mind the initial question, but when I say I don't need anything, don't try to convince me that I do.
All in all, very meh.Comment from Cindy P. of Art + Science 1/10/2012

I starting seeing Chloe after I couldn't stand my stylist at Tricoci anymore....
Chloe is awesome. Listens to me, makes suggestions- dry cuts and makes adjustments when I ask. I have never left unhappy! She's very kind and sweet- and always asks me about my dogs! Love that!!
I've had my hair blown-out there- I wasn't thrilled with the result but that was with a different stylist. I've had color done there too and found it very expensive and a but too subtle for what I was looking for- which is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. -

I am really particular about who cuts my hair, but I needed to find someone in evanston just for convenience. My friend recommended Amy at art and science and she is great! She always cuts my hair just how I want it, and it always grows out perfectly. I feel like I have to get my haircut less, because it always looks so great for so long after! I also get the keratin express done, and it really makes my hair smooth and have a really good texture! I get highlights done by Marcy and she is awesome also! I was really hesitant about getting my hair highlighted the first time, but she made my hair look so natural! I get so many compliments about my coloring job from so many people now. art and science is a little pricy, but its totally worth it, and I have always had great experiences.

Went to Leigh Ann for my haircut and was very happy with the style. I am extremely picky (especially with new stylists). Leigh Ann had great suggestions for the style (even though I was unsure at first). The salon was very clean, and plenty of magazines to read (unlike a previous comment).
I bought the Living Social deal for my first visit to this salon--the cut and full highlight would be quite pricey without (which is my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5). Definitely recommended. If you go in the spring/summer/fall, perfect location for a trip to the Farmers Market. -

LOVE my haircut!! My stylist's name was Leigh Ann---very friendly, fun and professional..and did an amazing job! ..i'm definitely going here for future cuts.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I feel like its quite expensive (worth it though) and the waiting area was weak ...there were no magazines available to read while you waited.. -

I've been going to Art + Science since 1990 and Alice S. has been my stylist since around 1997. I love Alice! She always knows what the latest trends and techniques are but, more importantly, she knows what looks good on ME. And she understands my hair and my lifestyle. She understands my face shape and my insecurities. I am ALWAYS happy after Alice cuts my hair.
Today, I also had my first eyelash tint with Lauren and she was a sweetheart. She was gentle, careful, attentive and reassuring and I will definitely go back to her.

The people at Art + Science give a great cut, especially for my short hair, but it is simply not price worthy. I go to Hair instead, and I get just as good of a cut for much cheaper. Hair is lacking the chic ambiance that Art + Science has, but who cares?
But I will say that if you are a woman with short hair, they do a good job at making it look cute and feminine at Art + Science. I just wasn't willing to pay that much for a haircut anymore. -

Cyndi! Cyndi! Cyndi!
Art + Science was the setting for our pre-wedding primping on a fine fall Saturday. As 7 or so ladies descended upon A+S Evanston for hair and makeup, I had the usual fleeting feeling of disappointment. Why? Well, I always have the shortest of hair. I always end up with a country club mom blow out, and everyone else gets curly, flirty, fun hair. I get straight, poofy hair. That's the way it goes, usually.
Then I met Cyndi, and her flair for being a little more out of the boring hair box than most stylists I've encountered when getting a wedding 'do. Instead of the run-of-the-mill blow out (which I was scheduled for), she took her time and gave me something just as fun as the rest of the girls. My petty kindergarten-esque heart soars! I'm just as cool as the other lassies!
My hair looked like this! http://media4.px.yelpc...
She discovered I have curly hair. Yes, it was helped by some curling irons and bobby pins, but I have curly-ish hair. A revelation, if you will. Cyndi is my new favorite person. And she's nice. And fun. And cool.
The rest of the 'maids and of course, the bride, looked BEAUTIFUL. Great makeup, great hair. Very accommodating to our large group. Mimosas, coffee and bagels in the back...and everyone was very comfortable and had a grand old time getting prettified.
The salon is clean and contemporary, and well-located in DT Evanston. Parking garage across the street (Public Parking) is cheap, and street parking can be found, though tough on weekend game days.

Yeefah is truly an artist! For her, each person she cuts is a unique canvas on which she performs her magic!
I was spoiled by the attention Yeefah gave me, and when I was forced to use someone else for nearly a year I found out how talented Yeefah really is. -

I cannot tell you how many times in my life I've left hair salons crying. It took me years to find a hairstylist I trusted back in my hometown. When I moved here from out of state, I would literally wait for visits back home to get my haircut.
Needless to say, I was scared to death the first time I walked into Art + Science. AUDREY IS A GOD SEND. I've been seeing her for 2 years now and she has given me the best haircuts of my life. She tames my baby fine hair and my cowlicks. She respects the fact that I don't use product and want a low-maintenance haircut. She even layers it so it won't look crazy when I get so busy that I can't make it back in for 6 months- quite a feat when you keep your hair as short as I do.
The true test, though? I can't go clothes shopping for a few weeks after she cuts my hair. I think I look so dang cute I end up buying everything I try on. Seriously? She's a miracle worker
I may make her my children's godmother. -

I was looking for a hairstylist when I moved to Chicago - and I ended up going here for the "new talent" special for $30. I ended up loving the new talent stylist I got, and have gone back for her full-price haircuts ever since! Leigh-Ann is so cute and friendly and did an amazing job!
If you want a good haircut for not as much, be sure to ask about the new talent, I'm not sure it's advertised, but that's what got me hooked! They have a continuous rotation of new talent too, so you could just stick with that! -

Disclaimer: I love my colorist, Allison. She is extremely nice, gives me exactly what I want, and I get compliments on my hair color often. The rest of the salon is fair for what you pay. It seems like you're just a number there, as if they have so many more important things than you to contend with. Once you're done, you're shipped off to a trainee who blow-dries you/styles you and then you leave. It's overpriced, you don't feel known there (like I think salon's should make an effort to do- know their clients). I've been coming here for 4 years and I still just feel like another random client. And I pay $90 for color.
One time, I had the trainee who styled my hair at the end make fun of it. It was rude and it's not the first time.
Oh, also, the décor is bad. They try to be modern and hip, but it results in a "we're trying hard to attract the trendy crowd" and it makes everything look intentional, instead of effortless. -

I had a great experience with Leigh Ann! She was very professional but extremely friendly, and made me feel very comfortable even though it was my first time in the salon. Changing stylists can be a nerve-wracking experience, but Leigh Ann was just wonderful. Also the haircut was extremely reasonably priced ($53) especially compared to other haircuts I've had in the city. If you're in Evanston and looking for a salon, this is where I'd go!

I'm not a fan. Paid over $70 for a very bad haircut that I needed to get fixed. Then, they were not accommodating about remedying the situation, so I went elsewhere.
I feel bad outing a specific stylist, but she was one of the pricier ones, so I had expected much more. This was definitely the biggest waste of money. My hair looked boxy and awkward when I walked out. -

Not that this place is in need of more positive reviews, but I have to do it because I have to tell the Yelp world about the wonders of Betty's brow waxes and Jody's hair cutting skills.
The brows, quickly now: COME HERE to get your brows waxed. Betty is really good. She gives you skinny ones when you want 'em and even when she doesn't think they look best on you (oh, believe me, she'll tell you), but best of all, is a master at the thick, arched brow. Lovely. I am obsessed with my eyebrows and won't let anyone else touch them.
My hair. The backstory: it sucks. Well, other people are into it, but if you had curly, crazy hair, you would find it annoying, too. I'm a busy woman, I don't have time to dump product in it or do whatever it is that Kim Kardashian does to get those (fake) luscious, dark, wavy locks. God, I want a stylist.
I went in to this salon yeeears ago as a sophomore in college and landed with Jody since I asked simply for someone who could cut curly hair. Jody. Oh, Jody, you are my life partner. After a couple regular cuts for my longish hair, she declared one day, "We're cutting it all off!" What? Seriously? Yes. And she gave me a short, SHORT bob with some longer tendrils in the front.
My life was transformed. I went from having been single for like, 18 years, to being asked out on dates all the time. Guys would tell me, "You're really cute, but what really got me was your hair!" Was it was a bad thing, seeing as most of them broke my heart? Nah. I was cool for years. I even told Jody years later: that haircut literally changed my life.
When Jody left the salon partway through my junior year (imagine my reaction when I returned from 4 months abroad to find her vanished! She had tried to find my address to let me know, but I was without a place at the time), I tried to find others to give me the same cut at the same salon. They were all great, but not quite what I wanted. Same when I moved to Philadelphia. Finally I gave up and grew my hair out.
Moved back to Chicago in 2007. Discovered Jody was back too, and immediately switched stylists back to her. After she gave me a few regular, good cuts, I returned to her a week ago with the idea of getting bangs. Before I said a thing, she announced, "So, I've been thinking about your hair today, and I really want to add some layers up here, like TONS, can I do that?..." What stylist thinks about your hair before you actually, physically show up? Jody does, that's who. Jody, who also incorporated my desire for bangs after thinking about how best to work them into the more heavily-layered look. I LOVE my new haircut.
As for Jody herself? Jody is super sweet. She's like your best friend. She talks when you're feeling chatty. And when you're not--which sometimes I'm not--she doesn't either, she just focuses on her work. I really appreciate how easy it is to be around her. Jody, I adore you.Listed in: The Importance of being…

I am the worst about getting haircuts. The worst. I have never had a regular stylist in my adult life, mostly out of cheapness/laziness. During college, I either didn't cut my hair, or had a friend cut it, or got it done at a Supercuts-type place. Since I've lived in Chicago, I've never gotten my haircut here, I always do it on vacation/out of necessity. So, as a part of my efforts at being a Classy Young Woman, I decided it was finally time to get a real haircut at a real place. Also, my locks were lookin' sloppy and as a Single Lady I gotta keep that stuff lookin' sharp, ya heard? So I placed a call to the fine folks at A+S in Evanston and said, listen up, I need a new 'do. And they were all like, Word, come in tonight at 8 PM and Zach gon' do you right.
Shooooooot.
I didn't expect to be able to get in the same day, but I did call pretty early in the morning. So, very exciting, I kicked it (read: worked) until about 7:45 and then hiked it over to the shop straight from there. I walked in and the two hipster chickadees at the desk greeted me, and gave me a card thing to fill out with my name and alladat. They said that my boy was just finishing up with someone and that I could have a seat. I filled out the card and then was asked if I wanted to pre-pay. I was like... Alright... cool. So I prepaid and pre-left the tip, too, I mean, this was a little weird to me but I figured, well, I'll at least tip 20% cause that's legit. So with a $53 haircut and a $12 tip, I racked up $65 on the card, and was like, alright, bring on the kutz.
I hung my coat and shit on in their closet and chilled out. Zach came over after a few and took me over to his chair. We had a little chat about the current State of the Haircut and I went on a mini rant about how it had been a few months since the last chop and this shit needed some help, specifically, it needed to not be long enough to put in a ponytail, or else.
Basically, there was the standard wash--chat--dry--chat--snip--chat--blowdry--chat-- more snip--chat--style--chat kind of deal. Zach is a nice dude, and he did a great job on my hair. He didn't even do anything crazy with the style that it was impossible for me to replicate at home (I hate it when they do that stuff, it makes me feel so inadequate to not be able to style my own hair properly, I mean, for real). He finished up and then let me know that they do free bang trimmings, so if I need them cleaned up in a few weeks or so to come back in; also he says that if I can't style it right at home or if something's getting funky then to come back in. I was like, thanks man!
I walked out of there all like, Yay new haircut!! The world is my oyster! I can feel my neck again! I can't take the easy way out with a pony tail, fuckkkkkkk yeah. Bring on the dates.
For real, tho, I mean, this shit may be expensive, but you're pretty much gonna pay that at any salon joint. Might as well be this one where you're treated nicely and you get something you like. I'll definitely be going back again when it's time for a new cut (or when I need to buy some MOP products, oh yeahhhhh gettin' organic all up on them locks). -

Four years ago I found myself in need of a haircut and in the Evanston area. Fate brought me to Art and Science. I have been searching my whole life for someone who understands how to cut my hair and can understand my vague, confusing descriptions of what I want. This angel's name is Helen.
There aren't enough stars to give Helen. I once decided to color my hair there as well, I can't remember the woman's name but she also did a great job. It's the first place I've been to where the stylists listen and understand before they just go at it. We've all been in that chair telling the stylist what we want and notice that vacant glazed over look they have as they stare off into the distance- not here. And to top it off no one tries to sell me stuff. When I move I am seriously considering flying Helen out to LA or flying back for a haircut. Yah, she's that awesome. -

I've adopted Jody as my regular hair stylist (a pretty huge deal for someone who only gets about 2 haircuts a year) . She always does a terrific job and is super sweet. I'm not a huge fan of hair stylists pretending to be my best friend and being overly chatty, but I like to talk a little and Jody is great for that.
The rest of the staff is friendly and professional. I've had my hair colored by Stevie before - she is terrific. They have great products too! Organic shampoo and conditioner? Check! I use the Glisten by M.O.P. And if you forget, they can just look it up on their computer and tell you what products you bought last time. I enjoy being remembered at businesses that I frequent. You also get an email during your birthday month for 20% a service, and really, who doesn't want a new hairdo to celebrate? One thumbs up for letting me put a tip for Jody on my credit card and another for appointment confirmations by email.Listed in: I feel so pretty!

I used to dread getting my hair cut. I have thick, coarse, frizzy, curly hair, and almost every stylist I've been to cannot figure out how to work with it. I've had people come at me with razors, cut it the "right" length when it's wet so that it's too short when dry, try to cut it shorter in the back than the front, blow dry it and then brush it... I used to have to go home immediately to wash and restyle my hair, and have left many salons in tears.
After an especially traumatic haircut experience elsewhere, I finally decided to spend the extra money and try Art + Science. And let me tell you, AUDREY IS A GODSEND. She seriously works miracles on curly hair. She listens to exactly what I want, but also has amazing suggestions for cuts that make my hair look somewhat tame. She cuts my bangs dry, so they are the perfect length. She gives AMAZING blowouts - I never want to wash my hair and ruin her work afterwards. And as a bonus, she is also hilarious and tons of fun. Basically, AUDREY MADE ME LOVE GETTING MY HAIR CUT! I recently moved away from the Chicago area, and am already missing Audrey - trying to figure out when I can make a trip back just to see her! -

I've been coming here since I was in high school. And then I went to Northwestern just so I'd be close by. Just kidding. Kinda. Now I travel from LP to get my hair cut/colored.
Anyway, this place is the best. Everyone is so well-trained through their special training program and I have never had a bad experience. Sabrina has always done my color (along with everyone else in my family) but she is LEAVING and I want to die. Regardless, she is recommending Allison so I'll try her out.
I go to Helen for my haircut and she is awesome. I trust her completely - she will give you her honest opinion which I really appreciate. I used to go to Jodi who is also great (but then she left for a few years - anyway, now she's back and she's very very good).
So in conclusion - 5 stars, Art & Science! Thanks for making me look soooooooooooo pretty. -

I saw Anna a few times with decent results, but nothing spectacular. Before my last appointment, I received a call that she was out sick, but I could be placed with someone else. Sure, no big deal.
What was a big deal: the new stylist and I decided on adding layers to my hair, to help with the curl. She gave me a mullet, *and* kept pushing products at me. I could have asked for someone to fix it, but I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Even when my hair wasn't being butchered, the haircuts and service weren't worth the price. -

I will never trust my locks or brows to anyone else. Bette, the woman who does the waxing, is amazing. Even if I am feeling my ugliest and chubbiest, a brow wax from Bette can totally turn things around. She also cuts my hair, but I've occasionally strayed to other stylists when I want to get in last minute (Amy is a good one). Back in the winter time, Bette gave me the cutest graduated bob. Everyone loved it. Now that I am growing out my hair, I will see her slightly less, which will be good for the budget but bad for the soul. Cuts here are pricey (mine run around $85 with tip) and the waxing ain't cheap either ($18 plus tip), but I'm of the opinion that hair care is something that should not be scrimped. A good hair cut can make you look thinner, younger, and feel so much better about yourself.
I've been living in Andersonville for over a year now, but I still hoof it up to Evanston for hair cuts and brow waxes! If you want some brows or a haircut that will change your life (and your face), make an appointment with Bette asap!Listed in: Former Evanstonian

Lemme start by saying, I hate having my hair cut. I hate it so much it got down to my knees at one point. That's some hair cut hatin' right there.
I don't like it when people mess with my hair, scalp, or put stinky products in it. So going to the salon is kind of a nightmare for me.
I've got thick, wavy, fairly unmanageable hair that lives in a ponytail and sees a lot of sweat and shampoo as well, so maintenance is not something I want to deal with. Wash and go. That's me.
Basically, I want rock star hair that will last me six months, and require no effort. What, it's not like I'm asking for an honest politician.
Tall order?
Not for Art+Science.
Yes they are spendy. And trendy.
But everyone is super nice from the receptionists to the shampooists. Shampooers? Shampoo...people.
I've been going for years now. They've fixed my hair every time I foolishly tried to find someone cheaper that would give me as good a cut.
And my last stylist, Amy, made me look like Salma Hayek in Desperado. I told her I wanted romance novel hair and I wanted it to grow out well.
I got my hair cut last July and it just started looking scraggly about three months ago. Amy, for the win.
Also, George. George is a senior stylist. He gives great hair, but the real allure to booking George is his shampoo lady. I can't for the life of me remember her name, shame on me, but she has magic fingers. MAGIC, I tell you. She should be a massage therapist, but instead she shampoos hair for George. You want her.
They found someone who learned to do victory rolls just for me, because I had requested 40s style hair for a wedding once, and one of their stylists promised she'd figure it out. Which she did.
I could go on. Suffice it to say that they have always come through with the goods. And then some. These guys have always given top notch service and despite the price, my broke ass will continue to go there. -

I HEART Audrey, read the reviews and requested her. She knew exactly what to do with my wavy/curl. She fixed my last bad experience of a haircut and even gave me new tips I never knew on managing my hair. No push on purchasing products from anyone. I will continue to go to her from now on, she was so friendly and easy to relate to. I've spend less and more for a haircut, ($60 not including tip) but so worth it. Parking was a little bit of a challenge here, i would suggest going in the weekday mornings.

A bit expensive, but a "you get what you pay for" spot, for sure.
Bette is a freakin' genius. She knows exactly how to wax eyebrows. She's brilliant. She'll listen to you and not give you a shape you're uncomfortable with, but she'll offer some suggestions if you want to change it up.
The salon is stylish, clean, and up-to-date. I've always found the staff to be friendly. I would recommend A+S, especially for brow waxes! They really know what they're doing. It's expensive but worth it. :) -

After trying numerous other salons, I think I have finally found one that I'll be staying with. Yeefah gave me the best haircut of my life. I have super thick, course hair and don't like to spend a lot of time on it in the morning. I don't know what she did, but literally, all I have to do is blow dry it and it looks great. And if I want to spend a few more minutes on it with a straightening iron, it looks even better. I noticed some reviewers commenting on what a great job she does on African-American hair but I'm here to say that she does just as great a job on Caucasian hair.
I also colored my hair at this salon and although the color is perfect, I didn't leave with the extra soft hair that I've had from other places after a color. Perhaps their products aren't as high end? I'm still going back here for future color and cuts though. -

I've been on the hunt for a good hairdresser since moving to Evanston last summer. The difficulty? I have very thick, curly ("ethnic") hair and that usually frightens stylists or they don't have the patience to deal with it.
I don't know why I didn't try Art + Science before, but it was amazing. I had Yeefah, who gave me great tips on how to keep my hair strong and moisturized in the brutal Chicago winters (and not frizzy in the Chicago summers). I paid half of what I usually pay to get my hair done, and she dealt with my difficult locks in an expert manner. I will happily sacrifice trips to Chipotle and Panera to get my hair done more regularly at Art + Science. -

I recently moved back to Chicago and needed a stylist bad. I saw the Art + Science web site was offering 30% to first time clients, so I made an appointment for later in the week. Easy!
I'm picky and horrible and scared of getting my hair cut. I just cut my long hair off to donate and want it back. I let Audrey know that I didn't want to sacrifice the idea of long hair to the poofy awkward state it was in and she had a lot of great suggestions. Ultimately she gave me EXACTLY what I wanted but better.
Bottom line: Audrey is adorable. She's fun to talk to and great at what she does. Awesome. -

I used to get my hair cut by Helen regularly and she did a great job. I had a straight bob, which she trimmed perfectly every visit. She is very gentle and soft-spoken and sweet.
I also had waxing done with Betty, who is equally fantastic. She has a no-nonsense attitude and works really fast. You're in and out in minutes.
Since I moved away from Evanston, I just don't get out here much anymore. -

I got my hair cut here a couple of years ago and remember that, although the stylist did a great job on my cut, it was much shorter than I wanted it to be. I don't remember who it was, but I figured, it's hair, it grows back. =P
Definitely a trendy place. -

Melissa is the best! The short bob she gave me gets rave reviews everywhere I go. And it's so easy to keep looking good. As a woman of a certain age, I don't want to look boring, but neither do I want to look like I'm trying too hard -- this is just perfect! Modern, but easy to maintain. I highly recommend Melissa, especially if your'e interested in a bob.

Came here a few days ago and got a hair cut from LeighAnn, an obvious newbie at cutting hair, despite her year+ at this salon. What a nightmare. Not only did she give me a style that was FAR from what I told her and SEVERAL INCHES SHORTER, but her technical skills were horrible! When she did layers she didn't even pin up my hair and work gradually, instead randomly cutting away with no strategy at all. Also, she had left some areas thicker than others that I had to tell her about; she didn't even check herself! I had to go home and do some trimming of my own to even it out and make it somewhat tolerable. My bangs also ended up like someone hacked at them (oh wait, someone did!) and were shorter than I requested. Definitely not worth the $53 I paid. I'm so disappointed.
Also, customer service doesn't seem to be a high priority at this place, at least towards me. For a $53 cut (and that's the low end), I'd expect at least an offer to hang up my coat or something to drink. Nothing.
UPDATE: I will be going in for an adjustment tomorrow, thankfully from someone different. My husband brought to my attention the fact that my hair was asymmetrical, and one side was at least an inch longer than the other, and I noticed myself that she had completely forgotten about a large chunk on my right side that was all the same length. Really?!?!
After realizing the mortifying job she did to my hair, I decided to downgrade to one star. Sure they can improve on their customer service, but I have no clue how they let LeighAnn work there. I don't usually write such scathing reviews such as this one, but it was apropos given what happened.
