I absolutely love Heather Rae!
I have thick, crazy curly hair, and wear a helmet twice a day to commute to and from work. Heather Rae always makes sure that I have a fab, low-maintenance cut AND she styles it straight each time I get it cut, which is super fun! She's an awesome person to chat with - I can't wait for my next appointment here! -

Julia is freakin' awesome. She was referred to me by a friend and, in addition to an outstanding cut, she gave me lots of tips that were super useful (and her prices are affordable).
She understood exactly what I wanted and also gave me suggestions on who to see for the type of color I want (she only does cuts). Love the location and the atmosphere, too.
Heads up that they are closed on Mondays. But they DO let you tip on a credit/debit card which is a huge bonus (I never have cash on me). I'll be back for sure. -
Review from Leslie S.
When I moved to the city a few years ago, I was worried about switching hair stylists (we've all had horrible cuts and colors, so I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about). But I certainly didn't want to keep driving back to Bartlett for a hair cut, so I Yelped and found Art + Science. The reviews convinced me to give it a try (for two years).
The salon itself is nicely done. The second floor houses the coloring area and coat room, while the first floor is primarily used for cutting. The decor has a semi-modern feel to it: very minimalist, but bright.
I found the receptionist to be absolutely delightful. She was always extremely friendly - to the point where you feel like you're visiting an old friend when you walk into the salon.
But I never made a connection with the very young stylists who worked on my hair (three in all). This isn't to say they didn't do a nice job on my hair - I got exactly what I asked for each and every time I visited the salon. Yet it seemed two things were lacking. First, when I go to a salon called "Art + Science," I'm looking for some guidance. Maybe what I think fits my face/hair isn't what a stylist thinks would be the best look for me. I tried, several times, to get some kind of input about my color and cut, but ended up defaulting to the same thing every time, as the stylists were never able to give me any direction or feedback that was different. (Since then, I've returned to Morgan Christopher Salon in Bartlett where my stylist actually suggested a color change that completely brightened up my entire face and looks fantastic, which made me wish I'd just kept driving out to the 'burbs in the first place.)
Secondly, I felt like the stylists at Art + Science had a hard time relating to me and visa versa - perhaps because of the age gap. I'm not really into the Chicago party scene, so we often struggled to find topics of conversation.
Just a heads up, my bill typically ran around $220 for a highlight touch-up and cut. (My bill in the suburbs for the same thing is about $120.)
Bottom line is that Art + Science is quality place to get one's hair done in the city - I would definitely recommend it if you're under the age of 30 and have a very firm idea of the color and style you're looking for (and a large pocket book). -

This was probably the worst hair cut I've gotten since I was a kid, and my mom used to cut my hair. All I wanted were more defined LONG layers and to have my bangs sweep. I had explained to my stylist that I wanted to keep the length and just shape up my layers, instead she cut about an inch off and then gave me the shortest hipster bangs ever. Now I have a wedding in two weeks, and am going to be pining up my hair and wait for this to grow out. I know I should have known better then to make a same day appointment to a place I don't normally go too, but the salon is close to where I live and just wanted something easy. Big mistake, do not recommend!

I try to stay away from writing negative reviews after only one visit - but sometimes one bad haircut is all it takes.
Bought the $40 Groupon for an "$80 value haircut". From wash to style (style meaning throwing some product in and blow drying for about 30 seconds) the haircut took 15 minutes. I've had $10 haircuts that lasted longer and looked better.
Now, Groupon is offering another deal with them - only this time with highlights. Yikes. Get ready for some botched blonde streaks, folks.Comment from Cindy P. of Art + Science 11/16/2011

Consistent service, fantastic selection of products and most importantly, topnotch stylists and colorists. I have been a regular with Marilyn (color) and Heather Rae (cuts), for over three years. My hair is healthy and trendy, I have only experienced A+ results and have referred many friends with the same outcome.
Well worth the price (which is competitive with salons in the area). I look forward to each visit and would recommend this salon to anyone looking for fabulous hair. -

Just got my hair done by Candace at Art and Science--I haven't found a place that does a PERFECT job on my hair since I left LA...but wow, my hair looks so good I was almost in tears at the salon! Happy tears!
Candace fixed my dark roots with the perfect color of blonde...I am so happy I went here!
In addition, everyone at the salon was friendly and down to earth. I actually missed my first appt. because I was really sick (don't worry, I called to cancel) and they quickly got me into another slot. ALSO, I was surprised by the good price...I am so happy I found Art and Science!!! Thank you! -

I hadn't had my hair cut in almost three years, and it was about time for a trim.
My stylist was Carly, and she couldn't have been better. She really knew what I was looking for, and added some much needed layers and texture to my almost waist length hair. I wasn't looking for a drastic change, and she listened to what I wanted and made her own suggestions. During the entire process, she kept checking to see if I was still satisfied with the results.
I like my hair cut more and more as the days go by - the true signet of a masterpiece! -

I usually get my hair done in the suburbs but was desperate for a new salon in the city. I decided on Art+Science because of all the good reviews I read on Yelp. i was NOT disappointed. I was scheduled for a color with Penny, and a cut with Annie.
Penny actually gave me the best color I have ever gotten. this was a month ago, and it grew out perfectly. Didn't look really grown out and horrible like previous hair colors I have gotten. I got blond highlights and it was the perfect color blond, and it was suddle and perfect. She was so nice, and my color was perfect, and exactly what I wanted even though I barely told her what to do!
Annie gave me an amazing hair cut, and i barely even told her what to do either! She was friendly, asked me how I usually styled my hair, and then cut it accordingly. I loved my bangs, and the length was perfect.
I will definitely be going back to Art+Science. It's well worth the price, best hair cut i've ever gotten!!! -

I have only been to Julia at the Lincoln Park location, but she's incredible and has repeatedly proven herself to be amazing at what she does.
A few years ago, I decided to trim my own bangs. It was a disaster. They were diagonal with the shortest piece at the top of my forehead at Betty Paige length. I was assigned to Julia when I walked in. She laughed at me (it was merited), and devised a heavy bang look that covered the shortest pieces till they grew in. She also gave me a PERFECT bob, that she checked by going around twice with a mirror on the underside to make sure each hair was exactly as it shoud be. I knew I had found a wonderful hair stylist that day and loyally went to Julia for my haircuts and free bang trims.
With one exception: I went to a conference in Tampa a year later, and my bangs were so long I couldn't see. The women who cut them in Tampa had my level of skill with hair and I was once again a hair disaster. Julia took it in stride and created another wonderful look to cover/fix the problem as it grew in. -

Marylin colored my hair for me yesterday and I am ecstatic with the results! After way too long of wanting my long black hair ombred and being worried about the type of damage I could get with it, I decided to just go for it. Marylin knew exactly what I wanted, gave me the color I wanted, and my hair still feels great. She was easy to talk to, too. On top of it all I was expecting my bill for getting my roots done and my ends lightened to be way more than it was, which was great, because then I restocked on all of my favorite Bumble + Bumble product they carry. Bottom line: Marylin is great and if you're thinking about coming to this salon to get your hair colored, go see her!!!

So, I really wanted to like this salon. And at the time, I did. It's just after I left that I realized how bad things were. I'll start from the beginning. I had a Groupon for a haircut, conditioning, and style. Once I got there, the stylist and I talked about what I wanted and she got started. We didn't talk much -- it was a little awkward that we couldn't find a connection, but maybe she assumed I wouldn't come back since I was using a Groupon. After the cut, before she started drying, I noticed that the shorter layers seemed to be more blunt than I was hoping, and I told her I was concerned that when I air dried, they would be obvious and not blend. She said it would be fine and styled it using a method I hadn't seen before, which was cool to learn. So, that night, I thought it looked great. It was just in the next couple of days that my fears about the layers came true -- and it wasn't just when it was air dried; I couldn't get the layers to curl with the brush, and so those pieces just stuck out. My sister went to cosmetology school, so I asked her if she could fix it. She said that there were a lot more technical problems with the cut than I even realized, but after an hour of tweaks, she was able to mostly fix it. I guess I just wish that when I had brought up my concerns that the stylist had tried to work with me instead of (as I felt) just trying to wrap up because it was the last appointment of the day. I know I could have gone back and tried to get it fixed at the salon, but that's so awkward and honestly a pain to have to do. I did think the staff was very friendly, and they have a good selection of products. This salon is highly rated, and I am sure that's for a very good reason. I'm just disappointed my experience didn't fall in line with those reviews.

I cannot tell you how many compliments I get on my hair on a weekly basis! It's become a running joke now at work!
Unfortunately, Carina has left but she recommended Julia to me and OMG, I couldn't be happier! She is SO friendly and nice and does an AMAZING job on my cut. May I even be as bold to say, better than Carina? GASP!
I couldn't be happier with Art + Science. I love that they send my appointment confirmations via email and the lovely young lady at the front desk ALWAYS remembers my name. That is outstanding service in my book!1 Previous Review: Show all »

They turned my hair orange.
They wouldn't give me a refund.
They wouldn't accommodate even some products to help out my insanely damaged hair that was ALL THEIR FAULT.
According to the manager my only option was to go to another one of their inept "stylists" for an attempted fix. Yeah, like I'm going to put my now over-processed, traffic cone hair into the hands of yet another vacant, too-cool-for-thou-yet-I'm-just-out-of-hair-school type. Um..... NOPE.
Bad Stylist. Bad Management. Even worse Service.
Granted, this was a few years ago so hopefully they've worked out the kinks since then but I still live just down the street from A&S and cringe every time I have to walk past them to get to Marquee. -

I've been going to Art & Science for about a year for color and cuts. I got married in September and all my bridesmaids and my mother had our hair done at Art & Science. I personally saw Christin who did my hair and makeup. We did a trial of both before which I was super glad. Not that a lot changed, but I was just more comfortable with the process. The other girls saw Heather Rae, Julia, Jason, Jeannie and Patrick. They all did a fabulous job and our stayed in all day and night.
I worked with Ashley to schedule everything and she was wonderful about getting our appointment straight even after I had to move all of them three weeks prior to the wedding. The salon even had some breakfast set up for us. I definitely recommend Art & Science for wedding hair and everyday hair. I normally see Julia for cut and Penny for color and they both do a fabulous job. Thanks! -

I adore this place. I hate getting my haircut because it never turns out the way I imagined or wanted but not so with Art and Science. Switched over from Robert Jeffrey on the recommendation of the friend who lives and dies by A&S. I was pleasantly surprised and now beyond happy with my hair. Not cheap (starts at $55 plus tip) but not insane like some places downtown and free touch-ups/trims!
My stylist is Heather Rae (she appears to be quite popular on yelp) and I can't say enough good things about her. Super friendly, very talented, she listened to my concerns (giant round head, fine black asian hair) and gave me an awesome cut. Great blow out plus she had great hair herself. I'm never leaving her and you can't have her.
The receptionist is sort of a pratt but just grit your teeth till its over :) -

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a complete nut about who I let cut my hair. I've had my share of really awful haircuts in my life, so I'm very cautious when choosing a hair stylist. However, once I find someone I love, I become an extremely loyal customer (case in point: I grew up in Nashville and when I'm living in Nashville, I still go to the same person I did when I was 12. TWELVE, people. THAT'S loyalty!).
Since moving to Chicago in 2007 I went through a couple of stylists at the regular "hipster" salons to no avail, and then after a particularly awful haircut I stumbled upon the Yelp reviews of Art+Science. I swear almost every review mentioned Heather Rae so I decided to check her out. That was almost two years ago - and no one else's scissors have touched my hair since.
Heather does give really different, edgy haircuts - slightly more edgy than I will do on myself - but she also knows how to give me the perfect combo of classic and edgy (something that eludes many stylists). She is very intuitive (good, because I rarely bring photos in as examples). I can just use gesture and say things like "swooshy" and she knows exactly what I want but better! And she doesn't push products to an annoying degree - I have bought products after she's used them on my hair but only because I loved them, not out of guilt.
It's decently easy to get an appointment on a short notice. I don't like booking way in advance - I prefer to let my hair get to the point where I'm ready to cut it all off myself before freaking out and calling for an emergency cut. They're always really accommodating and I've gotten in the next day before, but it's usually longer (within a week or so). I'm willing to wait for sure.
Parking can be a pain - plan for meters or ride your bike/take the bus
PS - Free bang trims! This always helps my haircuts extend a bit longer than they should, but it certainly helps even out the moderately high-price of the haircuts.
PPS - I know this is a very Heather Rae-heavy review, but EVERYONE who walks out of that salon has great hair. Really. So I'm guessing you can't go wrong with who you choose... But I'm still going to Heather. :) -

I just saw that art + science won a Best in the City Readers' Choice award-thingy from the Reader.
Sir, I beg your pardon.*
I keep hearing great things (even on Yelp) about art + science and thus have been lured by their sirens' song not once but *twice*. Both times my hairs were cut in a perfectly cromulent way, but the whole hair enchilada (ewwwww) was certainly not worth the somewhat extravagant price.
I have loads of bushy, wavy hair so it usually takes forever to cut and it is always a loud and boring affair. I expect it, and this place was no exception. I can't imagine that you would get out of there in under an hour.
But more importantly, as I, you know, *didn't go to hair school*, I prefer to leave it the professionals to make the tough calls. With both stylists, I was constantly asked "is this okay?" each step of the way, which sprinted way past "considerate and attentive to my needs" all the way to "maybe I should be compensated for my creative contributions to this production."
Two other things of note that didn't fit anywhere else:
1) The receptionist fed my meter for me when I asked and even volunteered quarters when I was digging through my purse trying to find some. Which was really great cuz the whole thing took two hours.
2) One of the stylists asked me what products I used, and when I said I didn't know, something I bought at CVS, she actually said, "Wow... I don't know the last time I brought products at a drug store." Duh, you work at a salon, snobby.
*Very brief but seemingly necessary background information: I hate getting my hair cut or sitting in a salon for any length of time. All of it reminds me that here is a backward, empty place. Come the revolution my self-indulgence will be punished. -

I absolutely love going here! When I was still in school, I went to the Evanston location, and since I've made the move to the city, I've switched my loyalties to the Lincoln Park locale. It's super easy to get an appointment, and the prices aren't ridiculous either.
My stylist is Heather Rae...she's young, so still on the low end of the pay scale, and she does a phenomenal job. She spends a good amount of time snipping and does a fantastic blow out. Even when she just makes subtle changes to your hair--layering or just taking off a few inches--you can really tell. I'm still searching for the perfect colorist though so if you have any recommendations, let me know! -

My whole life I have been a serial salonist. On top of that, I would aimlessly walk into whatever salon had a stylist to put me in a chair the second I wanted a cut. I would even wait six+ months in between cuts. Getting my hair done was never a priority for me -- until I went to Heather Rae. Now I have to force myself to wait the three month mark before making an appointment. (Appointments! Ahead of time!!!)
I've had long hair forever and the last time I went to her, I told her in a round-about way she could basically chop my hair off. She is so good that she *knew* that's not what I really wanted and just took a few inches off. She told me I needed to have long hair right now. She's a genius. On top of that she's adorable, fun and a great conversationalist. -

i went to the evanston location.. i wanted to go red.. i'm naturally brown.. so i made my appt with one of the highest level you could.. i was kinda bummed at first because he was talking me out of going with that color. I did appreciate the input, but now the color i have.. i'm really not happy with.. purple red.. that i could get out of a box.. and out of the light you really can't tell i even did anything to my hair. He was accommodating and told me i could come back after i called and said i wasn't happy with the color, i explained my issue.. so i went back.. and it looks the SAME......... i give up.......
UPDATE
the reviews are being read on yelp! HE called me and had me come back in to try to get it right, great customer service.. for sure! -

I'd been considering moving out of this city in a vain effort to find SOMEONE who could get my hair bright blond. I'd dealt with Sine Qua Non, Streets of London (yikes!), etc. and walked away with root-bumps (aka- lifts, shades above, and so on).
I took the for rent sign down when I found Candice.
Not only was she cool and fun to talk to, but she got me blond in the kind of "Do it to me, Bobby way" akin to Goldie Hawn on 1st Wives Club.
The best part?
All I had to say was, "I really want it bright, I'm comfortable w/baby blond..." and she took it from there. -

I had a really tough time finding the right stylist when I moved to Chicago. I usually keep my hair short, and finding a stylist who can keep it looking feminine and modern without drifting into suburban mom helmet hair proved to be a major challenge ... until I started going to Heather Rae.
I was so stressed about trusting a new stylist that I came to my first appointment armed with, I kid you not, at least 15 different photos of how I wanted my hair to look. I came really close to writing out what I wanted to say so that I wouldn't forget a critical point (not too many layers, shorter in the back, side-swept banks but not too many, my hair is really fine so please don't overuse those thinning shears, etc). I walked out of there with a haircut that was better than what I asked for or could have imagined.
I've been going to Heather Rae for almost two years now and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. When I mentioned that I wanted to grow out my hair to a just-below-shoulder-length bob, she assured me that thee were a lot of intermediate styles that would make the growing-out process much less painful -- and she was totally right. I've done the cut-it-off, grow-it-out thing numerous times, and this was the first time I was satisfied with my style throughout the process. To top off her hair expertise, Heather Rae is also a really awesome person -- I always look forward to chatting with her while she works her magic. -

I cannot rave enough about this place. I have been here twice.... once for a free haircut and color from stylists I don't remember (I'm kicking myself for that) and another time as a paying customer. My stylist the last time was Christin. She is absolutely fantastic. She was so friendly, cute and most importantly-- enthusiastic. I had an idea of what I wanted but no photo to work off of. I told her I wanted something kinda edgy but low-maintenance. I explained it to her and she magically came up with a fabulous cut.
I could not believe my eyes. The best part was, I'd receive compliments about the cut MONTHS after I had it done. Nothing is better than a haircut that grows out well! I made the mistake of going to a local salon recently (Red 7 Salon in Evanston). I'm stickin' with someone I know will do a good job! -

After I moved to Chicago and left my trusted hair dresser Jennifer to deal the with ridiculous cold in Grand Forks, ND (that's right Chicago, all y'all are a bunch of whiners, its not cold here, get over it.) I thought I would never again find someone who did a decent job on my hair.
Julia has exceeded my expectations every single time!!! After I had grown my hair out to its longest point for my wedding, I needed a change and wanted to go short. Every hair dresser I had ever been to had told me there was no way I would look good with short hair. But I told her that's what I wanted, she told me I would look fabulous and she was right.
The hair cut was perfect for my face, I had a great time and she even took the time to show me how to do it! That was so helpful.
Now since A+S is a departmentalized salon Julia couldn't do my color, so Gianna did it and WOW!!! I have never had a color look so good, so vibrant and so natural for so long. I got my color done in November and I am STILL getting compliments.
I can't afford it every 6-8 weeks but I make my budget every couple months because as long as I am in Chicago, this is my salon!! -

They really know what they are doing, because I sure didn't know I was wrong until they did it right! Very laid back, yet upbeat atmosphere. My *trainee skillfully navigated the twists and turns of my full head of hair and presented me with a perfectly balanced (not easy) summer length cut that feels sooo nice in the humidity! She also used a finishing cream that dries clean... replacing my previous store bought brand that I thought was the best.
*And it was free, there is a site for trainees called http://www.salonappren..., still light on postings, but it worked for me better than craigslist because it only covers high-end salon trainees. -

I have been getting my hair cut by Jason for almost two years now. He's really amazing. I can go in with no idea of what i want (just knowing that i NEED a hair cut) and he can ask me a few questions about my routine and cut it and it's fabulous and absolutely perfect! Jason's super friendly and easy to talk to. There's none of the snobbery i'd gotten used to of other salons, everyone's really helpful, friendly, and attentive.
ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT. -

Two years ago, I had given up on my previous Chicago salon and turned to Yelp for some sage-like advice. It led me to Art + Science and Heather Rae, and now I wouldn't dare let anyone else cut my hair!
Assuming all the stylists are like Heather Rae, I can say that the experience is wonderful. Heather LISTENS to what you want to do to your hair - she doesn't push, as I've had former stylists do. She is also able to decipher my totally inarticulate directions for my hair cut, which I appreciate.
I'm moving away from Chicago in a few months, and I can tell you I just don't know how I'll replace Heather Rae! -

You hear a lot about Heather Rae in these reviews, but I want to show some love for Jason, too. My long hair halfway down my back was just too much to deal with in this Chicago heat, and I wanted something short and edgy. It was my first time at the Lincoln Park Art + Science (I'd only been to the Wicker Park one, and as a guinea pig for a free haircut for a student, Audrey--almost 2 years ago at this point), and I was not disappointed.
Initially I was a little nervous about going to Art + Science because I had a lot of embarrassing damage to my hair and I had also never had my hair cut by a man before (it shouldn't matter, but still). All of that instantly dissipated once Jason walked up to me. He was sweet, funny, and I could tell that he really put a lot of THOUGHT into my new hairstyle. I let him do essentially whatever he wanted (it's just hair, after all) and he totally ran with it. Yet he was smart enough to know when he would be crossing the line--at one point he stopped himself and was like "Oh I have a wonderful idea for your hair and it would look really cute, buuuutttt it would grow out super weird." I asked him how long it would last and he said "To be honest, not long enough." I respected that he took that into consideration. I left with a sick-ass haircut that my friends are totally amazed with.
Jason is the bomb-diggety, y'all. A+ all around. -

I'm so thrilled I finally gave Art + Science a try! My coworker highly recommended her friend Julia, and because my coworker has cute hair I figured I couldn't go wrong. I was right! Julia did an amazing job with my cut. I asked for bangs, which I know can be tricky. She patiently listened to what I wanted, took the time to examine my hair texture (which is course and curly), studied the pictures of Hillary Duff I brought in (don't laugh), and just overall really made me feel comfortable. She went slow with cutting the bangs after I told her about my bangs-from-hell story (we all have them, right?), which I really appreciated.
The best part is, my hair passed the style-it-yourself phase! I was so nervous to wash my hair for fear I could never recreate what Julia had done...but I could, thanks to Julia's instructions on how to properly blow out my bangs.
Finally, at $55 I think the price is on par with most other places.
Like I said, I'm thrilled!! And will be back in 4 weeks for free bang trim. :) -
Review from Erin B.
I'm very picky about my hair, and after living in London for awhile and going to Tony & Guy's, I became even pickier. So when I came back to Chicago, It took a slew of bad hair cuts from bad salons for me to realize that I needed to spend a little more $$ for amazing haircut.
Art & Science does exactly that. Cristin is fabulous and is one of the only people I trust with my hair. She makes you feel very comfortable and is very good about listening to what you want. She is also not afraid to take risks, so whenever I go in wanting a new style, she never fails! Marilyn is also great for color...I hate that phony 'fake' coloring, and I am never disappointed when she works on my mane :)
Art & Science is by no means inexpensive, but if you want great style and friendly stylists, spend the extra cash! -

I get my color done there. I have never had so many compliments.
They save your info, so they can re-create the color they did last time. Awesome.
Not only was the color great, but the junior stylist who blowdried my hair did a fantastic job as well. i loved every minute of it!
UPGRADE to 5 STARS!! They fit me in for a bang trim and Jason saw that I needed a whole haircut. Not expected and best cut of my life!!! yay! -

I love this place. Everyone is nice and cute. Like Kristine L., I went to Ella when she worked there and I absolutely love her. I still have yet to visit her at Studio 110.
I like my hair one color - ridiculously fake blond. I've had three or four colorists at this place and all have done stellar jobs but Kat is my absolute favorite. Genius. I don't know how she does it, but she somehow gets my hair the perfect color. I've had so many people, including other hairdressers, tell me what a great color I have - such a clean tone. I just recommended her to a friend who went from dark brown to bright red and she nailed it.
Overall, this place makes me happy. Great smelling products. Attentive. Friendly. Not too talkative. Worth the money. -

I have thick, curly hair that can turn monstrous on a humid day. I'm a wash 'n wear kinda girl yet stylists would always want me to straighten my hair which takes forever! What's wrong with curls?!
I went to see Aggie on a recommendation from a friend (who by the way has the most beautiful curly, red hair I've ever seen) and I can't express how happy I am with her work. She's amazing. She cuts and styles to MY HAIR.... taking in to account all the weird loops, turns, flips and swirls... she's truly an artist.
Plus, she makes the cut a little different each time, which I enjoy - otherwise, a short haircut can get a little boring.
Aggie is the best! Totally worth every penny! -

I bought a groupon for color and a conditioning treatment here after reading reviews and going in for a consult. I was embarrassed to admit how long it had been since I last visited a salon, and Penny and Annie were happy to walk me thru various service options. In the end I got a full color with touch ups on my highlights, a conditioning treatment (both covered by my groupon) and a cut and style. Penny did my color-- I'd brought in pictures to my consult as well as the appointment and she gave me exactly what I wanted! She was incredibly attentive and personable during the lengthy process (i have a lot of hair) and even stopped by while I was getting the cut to make sure I was happy with the result. Annie did my cut, and again knew exactly what I wanted after showing her a couple of pictures. I think she's the first person who's ever been excited about straightening my curly, frizzy hair. I would highly recommend both of these fine ladies. The entire appointment lasted about three hours, which they'd estimated at my consult based on the all over color and length of my hair. Great atmosphere, location and all over service!

Love jahnavi and heather rae. They are both so great on advising what will look best. I am currently having my roots touched up and jahnavi suggested we put some highlights on the ENDS of my hair.. Who knew that was even an option! Prices here are reasonable too!

At one time, I was so happy with Art and Science, but the last few times, my color has not turned out right...the blonde color has been a little off and most recently, it had an orange tone (I'm not kidding) which has started to wear off (luckily). My haircuts have been so-so for the last few months...the stylist has not been very helpful with my effort to grow my hair out...she wants to see a picture of exactly what I want (not always easy to come by)....has not been making helpful suggestions and has been leaving too much hair.
Fed up with looking at this slight train wreck everyday, I visited another similarly-priced salon for a consultation about fixing my recent haircut and getting new color. She said my hair is cut so that it looks like I have "ear muffs" and that I will have to grow it out for a few weeks before she can start to reshape it. I am writing this review to say, thanks but no thanks for the ear muffs, Art and Science. I will not be returning.Comment from Cindy P. of Art + Science 12/3/2010

When I first moved to the city, I was unemployed and obsessed with finding ways to get stuff for free. Enter Art & Science. The stylists who are in advanced classes regularly post on Craig's list for hair models (free cuts or color--only pay for materials). I've gone here twice. Once I had Lucas cut my hair and he did a wonderful job! He took his time with me and gave me an awesome blow out and style. I have really thick hair so I felt bad for him. The second time, I saw a young lady (sorry I can't remember her name) for an all over color and she too was very professional. She did a wonderful job. I know it's scary to let a student cut your hair but they are already licensed. They are just in the Advanced classes specifically to work at Art & Science.

Heather Rae has cut my hair at least three times and has done a great job each time. Plus she turned me on to some good music in the process!
